VALE - Jason Michael Dedmon, 18, of 7826 Reeps Grove Church Road, died June 21, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Reeps Grove United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a 2002 graduate of West Lincoln High School, where he played football. He was voted Most Spirited in his class and planned to attend Central Piedmont Community College in the fall.
Survivors include his parents, Mike and Dawn Dedmon of the home; one brother, Robbie Dedmon of the home; and grandparents, Bob and Marie Dedmon of Vale, and Olivia Sutton of Lincolnton.
Memorials may be made to West Lincoln High School Sports Boosters, 172 Shoal Rd., Lincolnton, N.C. 28092; or Reeps Grove United Methodist Church, 7401 Reeps Grove Church Rd., Vale, N.C. 28168.

Howard Davis
VALE - Howard Everette Davis, 76, of 8066 North Hebron Church Road, died June 23, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Ebenezer United Methodist Church where he was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7 until 8:30 at Stamey Funeral Home.
Born in Cleveland County, he was the owner and operator of Howard Davis Trucking in Vale. At his church he was a member of the United Methodist Men, and served as a former church trustee.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Hull Davis; a son, Kevin Davis of Vale; a daughter, Kathy Davis of Lincolnton; and two sisters, Madeline D. Walters of Matthews,, and Corene D. Brackett of Cherryville.
Memorials may be made to Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 8840 Cooksville Rd., Vale, N.C. 28168; or the American Diabetes Association, 1820 E. Seventh St., Charlotte, N.C. 28204.

George Colbert Sr.
NASHVILLE, N.C. - George Howard Colbert Sr., 80, died June 19, 2002. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday night from 7 until 9 at Johnson Funeral Home in Rocky Mount.
He was a U.S. Army WWII veteran and a retired minister.
Survivors include his wife, Kattie Colbert; a daughter, Christine Hyde of Nashville; four sons, George H. Colbert Jr., and Calvin B. Colbert, both of Richmond Hill, Ga., Johnnie R. Colbert Sr. of Philadelphia, Penn. and Randy D. Colbert of Crouse; two sisters, Cellia Gray Davis, and Lula Ellen Hughes, both of Rocky Mount; two brothers, Robert Lee Colbert Sr., and John Henry Colbert, both of Rocky Mount; 18 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

John Cornwell Sr.
John Paul “Sonny” Cornwell, Sr., 75, of 2511 Daniel Shrum Road, died June 23, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Warlick Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6:30 until 8:30 at the funeral home.
Born in Lincoln County, he was served in the U.S. Navy, Marines, and the Army, and worked in the textile industry.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie Froneberger Cornwell of Cardinal Care; one son, John P. “Tony” Cornwell Jr. of Waco; four daughters, Mrs. Evon C. Goodson of Kannapolis, Donna C. Abernathy of Claremont, Gina C. Senter and Lisa Robinson, both of Lincolnton; four step-children; ten grandchildren, Paula Mullis, Jason Huffman, Denise Abernathy, Crystal Abernathy, Shawn Cornwell, Lee Cornwell, Sherri Avery, Brad Senter, Terry Goodson, and Michael Goodson; five great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Cardinal Care Health and Rehabilitation, 921 N. Aspen St., Lincolnton, N.C. 28092; or the Heath House, 919 Wilma Sigmon Rd., Lincolnton, N.C. 28092.

Margie Hutchings
MAIDEN - Margie E. “Granny” Hutchings, 80, of Babson Park, Fla. died June 21, 2002. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. today in Maiden City Cemetery.
Born in Kentwood, Louisiana, she was of the Baptist faith and a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Suzanne Curtis of Frostproof, Fla.; four brothers; two sisters; three grandchildren, Cathy Vasquez of Babson Park, Fla., Henry Briseno of Newton, and Jesse Singletary of Catawba; and three great-grandchildren.
Burke Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

William Henley
MAIDEN - William “Bill” Taft Henley, 92, of 2423 Henley Street, died June 23, 2002. A funeral service will held at 3 p.m. today in the chapel at Burke Mortuary. Burial will follow in Maiden City Cemetery.
Born in Gaston County, he was a U.S. Army, WWII veteran and a member of First Baptist Church in Lincolnton. He was the former Operations Officer at Duke Power Company’s Lincolnton Sub-station.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby H. Henley; a son, William “Bill” Henley Sr. of Mooresville; two brothers, George Henley, and Pat Henley, both of Balls Creek; a sister, Sarah Bandy of Balls Creek; and five grandchildren, Joel Henley, Hunter Henley, Taylor Henley, Kelly Henley, and Kendall Henley.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Family Life Center, 201 Robin Rd., Lincolnton, N.C. 28092.

Albert Spencer
DENVER - Albert Franklin Spencer, 44, of 8223 Optimist Club Road, died June 13, 2002. A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 15 at Revival Tabernacle in Stanley where he was a member. Interment followed in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Born in Mecklenburg County, he worked in the textile industry.
Survivors include his mother, Vivian M. Harstin Spencer of the home; two sisters, Linda Nixon of Denver and Elaine Dyer of Iron Station; and two brothers, Carl Spencer and Mackie Spencer, both of Denver.
Carothers Funeral Home in Stanley was in charge of arrangements.

Ruby Benfield
CHARLOTTE - Ruby Marie Benfield, 85, of 8325 Pinefield Court, formerly of Cherryville, died June 24, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Mt. Zion Baptist where she was a member. Burial will follow in the family plot at City Memorial Cemetery.
Born in Gaston County, she worked at Carlton Yarn Mill for 20 years until retirement.
Survivors include a son, James Howard Walker of Miami, Fla.; three daughters, Betty Farris of Charlotte, Joan Martin of Stanley, and Carolyn Helms of Cherryville; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church Family Life Center, 112 Mt. Zion Church Rd., Cherryville, N.C. 28021; or Harris Hospice of Presbyterian Hospital, 200 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, N.C. 28204.

Beulah White
LAWNDALE - Beulah Clayton Hunt White, 85, of Oak Grove Clover Hill Church Road, died June 24, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Oak Grove United Methodist Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Cleveland County, she was employed with Breedon’s Poultry in Morganton until retirement.
Survivors include a son, Shannon L. White of Polkville; two brothers, James Hunt of Shelby, and Hoyt Hunt of Hickory; a sister, Marie Hunt Gold of Lattimore; three grandchildren, Gary Allen White, Lisa White Leonhardt, and Patti White Bivins; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hospice at Wendover, 951 Wendover Heights Dr., Shelby, N.C. 28150.

Roby Huffman JR.
CLAREMONT - Roby Eugene Huffman Jr., 66, of 1997 Hewitt Road, died June 24, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. today at New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Newton. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
Born in Catawba County, he was a heavy equipment operator with Glenn Young Grading, Diddley Dadburn Tree Farm, and Gary Huffman Grading Company.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Crouse Huffman; a son, Randle E. Huffman of Claremont; two daughters, Debbie H. Alwran of Conover, and Teresa H. Kaylor of Claremont; two sisters, Louise Beard, and Doris Huffman, both of Newton; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to New Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1560 Nathanial St., Newton, N.C. 28658.

DENVER - James William McFadden III, 43, of 1156 Brook Path Trail, died June 25, 2002. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today in the chapel at Warlick Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service at 1321 Meadowland Drive, Lincolnton.
Born in Florida, he was a U.S. Army veteran, and worked as a machinist/mechanic for the Charlotte Observer.
Survivors include his wife, Roma McFadden; his mother and step-father, Shirley and Al Hinson of Lincolnton; a brother, Robert Ramsey of Sunset Harbor; and a sister, Kim Hill of Charlotte.
