NEWTON - Nellie Mae Burgess Helton, 56, of 213 North Caldwell Avenue, died June 9, 2003. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Burke Mortuary. A private Burial will be at a late date. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at Burke Mortuary.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Scotty R. Burgess of Lincolnton and Alvie Helton of Conover; one daughter Tracy B. Travis of Taylorsville; three brothers, Johnny Burgess of Newton and Joe Burgess and Paul Burgess both of Conover; three sisters, Mary Marlowe of Conover and Betty Underwood and Ruby Lail both of Newton and five grandchildren; Brandon Burgess, Brooke Day, Courtney Day, Ryan Helton and Hunter Helton.
Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, PO Box 2994, Hickory, North Carolina 28650.

Floyd Kirksey
Rev. Floyd Thomas Kirksey, 75, of 1400 Laboratory Road, died June 10, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Massapoag Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Thursday at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born in Alachua, Fla. he was a minister at Massapoag Baptist Church and a U.S. Army Veteran.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy Kirksey of the home; one daughter, Carol Ann Lambert of Lincolnton; two sisters, Hazel Sherrill of Sherrills Ford and Grace Taylor of Catawba and two grandsons, David Lambert and Michael Lambert.
Memorials may be made to Massapoag Baptist Church, 2139 Laboratory Road, Lincolnton, North Carolina 28658.

Nancy Fuller
LAWNDALE - Nancy Beatrice Ussery Fuller, 92, of 2725 Philadelphia Road, died June 8, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
Born in Jones County, Ga. she was a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, James Lloyd Fuller of Shelby; five daughters, Doris Nixon of Dayton, Ohio, Bernice Haynes of Shelby, Beatrice Sims, Yvonne Sweezy and Birt Lee Maddox all of Lawndale; 23 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.
Ebony and White’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Naomi Finger
Naomi “Bun” Ritzy Finger, 91, of 2800 East Highway 27, died June 12, 2003.Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Pilgrim Tabernacle. Burial will follow in Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends anytime at the residence.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include her son, David Keener of the home and several nieces and nephews.

MAIDEN - Mary Jane Berthelsen, 80, of 4537 Mockingbird Lane, died June 11, 2003. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Mondat at St. Dorothy’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 7 p.m. Sunday at Warlick Funeral Home with a short bible reading before.
Born in Clifton, Ariz., she worked for Microsoft and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband Raymond L. Berthelsen of the home; three sons, Ray Berthelsen of Maiden, Brian Berthelsen of Ramsey, NJ and Kevin Berthelsen of Greenwood Lake, NY; two daughters, Susan Brodeur of Arlington, Wash. and Mary Blackfield of Mahwah, NJ; one sister, Joan Deffes of Ridgecrest, North Carolina 28092.

BANNER ELK - Charles Voncannon Donaldson, of the Life Care Center, died June 11, 2003. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 tonight at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born in Cleveland, Tenn. he was a residential builder.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Donaldson of Denver and Donnie Donaldson of Stanley; two sisters, Laura Jean Stevens of Winston-Salem and Gail Strain of Newland and four grandchildren.

GASTONIA - John Franklin Lutz Sr., 87, of 2015 Hughes, Avenue, died June 12, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mays Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Born in Gaston County he was employed by the State Highway Department in the Maintenance Department and a member of First Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Ruth Hughes Lutz of the home; two sons, John Franklin Lutz Jr. of Hickory and James D. Lutz of Maiden; three daughters, Frances Hartsoe of Maiden, Ivey Hollifield of Conover and Peggy Gabriel of Claremont; two brothers, George H. Lutz of Lincolnton and Odell Junior Lutz of Cleveland, Ga.; one sister, Minnie L. Hawkins of Hilderbran; three step-daughters, Judy Weathers of Gastonia, Kay McCaskill of Dallas and Donna Holland of Florida; two step-sons, Charles Hughes of Gastonia and Lester Hughes of Lincolnton; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren and 20 step-great-grandchildren.
