Loy Sain
Loy Earl Sain, 89, of 5982 Fairview School Road, died June 21, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 tonight at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a machinist at Cochrane Furniture Company.
Survivors include his wife Violet Rudisell Sain; three sons, Neil Sain and Tim Sain both of Vale and Neil Sain of Hickory; two half-brothers, Roy Lee Wilson of Lincolnton and Bob Wilson of Jacksonville, Fla.; four half-sisters, Shirley Kimbrell and Ruby Smith of Cornelia, Ga., Margie Davis of Oakwood, Ga. and Ruth Benson of Palmetto, Ga.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund, 2700 Trinity Church Road, Vale, NC 28168.

B. Abernethy
Beulah Freeman Thornburg Abernethy, 96, of 1556 Oaklin Lane, died June 22, 2003. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Laboratory United Methodist Church, where she was a member. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 tonight at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born in Lincoln County, she was a homemaker and a Sunday School teacher and a volunteer for Christian Ministries.
Survivors include three step-daughters, Florine Overton and Evelyn Hendrick both of Asheboro and Libby Fitzgerald of El Paso, Texas; one sister, Blanche Anthony of Gastonia; one brother, Sam Freeman of Charlotte; eight grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Christian Ministries of Lincoln County, PO Box 423, Lincolnton, NC 28093 or Hospice of Lincoln County, 107 N. Cedar Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092.

John Homesley
CHERRYVILLE — John Wade Homesley, 47, of 3824 Tryon Courthouse Road, died June 21, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Born in Cleveland County, he was employed by the US Postal Service of Lincolnton and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict.
Survivors include two sons, John Eric Homesley of Nebraska and Michael Homesley of Colorado; two daughters, Kim Homesley of Cherryville and Samantha Homesley of Colorado; two brothers, Troy Homesley of Cherryville and Billy Homesley of Lincolnton; one sister, Bonnie Stevenson of Statesville; three grandchilren, Kenneth Homesley, Michael Homesley and Brittany Homesley and his mother, Joan London Homesley White of Lincolnton.

Myrtle Fisher
GREENWOOD, SC — Myrtle Brooks Fisher, of 401 West Durst Avenue, died June 21, 2003. A memorial service will be held at Episcopal Church of the Resurrection at 2 p.m. today. The family will receive friends following the service in the Bishops Hall.
Born in Greenwood County, she was self-employed at Beech Haus Restaurant.
Survivors include one daughter, Jane Schronce of Lincolnton; two sons, Stephen Everett Fisher of Titusville, Fla. and Julian Monroe III of Vienna, Austria; three grandchildren, Brooks Fisher West of Lexington, Ky., Logan McCall Schronce of Lincolnton and Julian Monroe Fisher, IV of Vienna, Austria; one sister, Mary Jane Brooks Mobley; four brothers, Carroll H. Brooks, E. Loudon Brooks Jr., Thomas Barry Brooks and Emmett Fellers Brooks.

DENVER — Doris Kathleen Long, 74, of 8462 Graham Road, died June 20, 2003. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at Unity Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, she was a homemaker and a member of Unity Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Annie L. Kelly of Denver and Patsy L. Dcikerson of Charlotte; two brothers, Ralph Long of Charlotte and Howard Long of Mt. Holly.
Woodlawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Richard Pope
DENVER — Richard “Dickie” Samuel Pope, 71, of N. Hwy. 16, died June 21, 2003. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Glenwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Born in Mecklenburg County, he was a retired loom fixer for Southern Asbestos of Charlotte.
Survivors include his wife Myrtle Newton Pope; three children; three step-children; a number of grandchildren and two brothers, Larry Pope of Marshville and Charles Pope of Maryland.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lincoln County, PO Box 1526, Lincolnton, NC 28093.

Dessie Shull
CHERRYVILLE — Dessie Mae Johnson Shull, 83, of 102 Lilly Street, died June 22, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the City Memorial Cemetery.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a homemaker and a member of Reeps Grove United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband William Caldwell Shull of the home; four sons, Howard Shull and William Caldwell Shull Jr. both of Cherryville, Felix A. Shull of Norfolk, Va. and Sandy Shull of Topeka, Kan.; three daughters, Carol S. Reid of Mooresboro, Faye Moore of Zelphyrhills, Fla. and Sandra K. Agner of Lakeland, Fla.; three brothers, Gene Johnson of Statesville, Lloyd Johnson of Cherryville and Coolage Johnson of High Shoals; three sisters, Ethel Houser and Edna Wilfong both of Lincolnton and Ruth Willis of Vale; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Blonnie Lovette
HARRISBURG — Blonnie Rose Gibson Cooper Lovette, 68, of Harrisburg, died June 22, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at McEwen Mint Hill Chapel. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 tonight at the funeral home.
She was born in Henderson, Ky.
Survivors include her husband James Lovette; five children, Randy Cooper of Iron Station, Kitty Taylor of Homestead, Nancy Lopez of Mint Hill, William T. Cooper of Kannapolis and Donna Rouco of Gary, Ind.; 11 grandchildren, Michael Cooper, Scott Cooper, Stacie Rouco McCurdey, Frank Lopez, Ashley Lopez, Mark Rouco, Tiffany Taylor, Ryan Cooper, Timothy Taylor and Daniel Lopez; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Brenice Duncan; five sisters, Shirley Terry, Sylvia Winstead, Coreane Shumway, Carolyn Lamdin and Faye Woodard.

Alvin Kerley
MAIDEN — Alvin Leonard Kerley, 81, of 4432 South Olivers Cross Road, died June 24, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Center View Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. tonight at Burke Mortuary.
Born in Catawba County, he was retired from Broyhill Furniture and was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran receiving a purple heart and a bronze star.
Survivors include his wife Clara Cheek Kerley of the home; one son, Alvin Wayne Kerley of Maiden; two daughters, Wanda K. Brooks and Sharon K. Wimberly both of Maiden; three sisters, Robena Moser of Claremont, Josephine Rowe of Conover and Betty Hefner of Newton; one grandson, Jeremy Wimberly and one great-granddaughter.

Harry Rudisill
CHERRYVILLE — Harry Lee Rudisill, 73, of Old Fallston Road, died June 24, 2003. A graveside service will be held at noon Thursday at City Memorial Cemetery. Burial will follow in the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until noon Thursday at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.
Born in Gaston County, he was a retired U.S. Navy, and a member of First United Methodist Church.

M. Waters
DENVER — Margaret Deal Waters, 78, of Wexford House, died June 24, 2003. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Burke Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in Eastview cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
She was born in Catawba County.
Survivors include five brothers, Glenn E. Deal and Robert Deal both of Newton, Carl L. Deal of Maiden, James Deal of Conover and Bill Deal of Denver and two sisters, Martha Bunton of Conover and Catherine Turbyfill of Cranberry.

Billy Bridges
SYRACUSE, NY — Billy Gene Bridges, 64, of 116 Robinson Circle, died June 20, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2 p.m. Friday at the church.
He was born in Cleveland County.

T. Stroupe
Thelma Lockman Stroupe, 83, of Cardinal Care, died June 25, 2003. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Webb’s Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Born in Lincoln County, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Melvin Stroupe of Lincolnton; one brother, Elmer Lockman of Lincolnton and one grandson, Jerry Stroupe of Lincolnton.

Daniel Bost
NEWTON — Daniel Evans “Epp” Bost, 86, of 2553 South US 321 Hwy., died June 25, 2003. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at Webbs Chapel United Methodist Church, where he was a member. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Born in Catawba County, he was self-employed as a mechanic.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Franklin Bost of Catawba and Michael Wade Bost of Denver; one brother, Avery C. Bost of Charlotte; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to Webbs Chapel United Methodist Church, 4640 Webbs Chapel Church Road, Denver, NC 28037.

WASHINGTON, DC — Era Hawk, 91, of 5425 Western Avenue NW, died June 20, 2003. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Webb Memorial Lawns. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
