CROUSE - Mahn Beam Loy, 85, of Shoal Road, died July 26, 2002. A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. today in City Memorial Cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, she was a member of Bethphage Lutheran Church of Crouse and was a homemaker.
Survivors include three sons, Victor Loy of West Palm Beach, Fla., Buck Loy of Oriental, and Dayne Loy of Lincolnton; two daughters, Karen Loy of Lincolnton, and Michelle Bingham of Cherryville; one brother, Harlee Beam of Lincolnton; three sisters, Pat Heavner of Crouse, Hallin Heavner of Vale, and Megan Heidt of Raleigh; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 1300 Baxter St., Suite 101, Charlotte, N.C. 28204.
Carpenter’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lula Crowder
VALE - Lula Mae Crowder, 85, of 822 Falling Brook Lane, died July 26, 2002. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel at E.F. Drum Funeral Home. Burial followed in Macedonia Methodist Church Cemetery.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a member of Macedonia Methodist Church and was employed as an inspector in the hosiery industry.
Survivors include a son, Ronald Davis of Vale; a daughter, Shirley Wright of Charlotte; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Charles Fulbright Sr.
VALE - Charles Thomas Fulbright Sr., 70, of 4230 Wise Road, died July 26, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. today at Palm Tree United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Catawba County, he worked as a doffer for Mohican Mills until retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Fulbright; three sons, Joe DiBernardo, and Charles DiBernardo, both of Vale, and Charles Fulbright Jr. of Hickory; two daughters, Bea Wise of Vale, and Linda Wingler of Hildebran; one sister, Catherine Houser of Vale; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Palm Tree United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Rev. Ed Benfield, 4018 Killian Rd., Lincolnton, N.C. 28092.

Charles Borders Jr.
SHELBY - Charles William “Squirt” Borders Jr., 45, of 1656 Friendship Road, died July 26, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Walls Memorial Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Born in Cleveland County, he worked for PPG Industries for 23 years.

Bertha Yarbro
VALE - Bertha Ellen Sain Yarbro, 88, of 8342 West Highway 27, died July 27, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Laurel Hill United Methodist Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 at Stamey Funeral Home.
Born in Lincoln County, she worked in the dietary department of Broughton Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond Nelson Yarbro; a son, B. Nelson Yarbro of Vale; two daughters, Annette Bradshaw and Susie Stroupe, both of Morganton; a sister, Minnie Houser of Hickory; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Laurel Hill United Methodist Church, 8364 W. Hwy. 27, Vale, N.C. 28168.

Roger Huss
CROUSE - Roger Dale Huss, 59, of 2363 Johnstown Road, died July 27, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Bethphage Lutheran Church where he was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 until 8:30 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a U.S. Navy Vietnam War veteran and was employed as a dock worker for Carolina Freight Carriers Corporation of Cherryville for 30 years until retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Paulette Willis Huss; a son, Travis Dale Huss of Crouse; two daughters, Stephanie Creighton, and Melissa Huss, both of Crouse; seven brothers, Boyce Huss, Harry Huss, and Edwin Huss, all of Crouse, Bennett Reep, N.C. Huss Jr., Donald Huss, and Johnny Huss, all of Lincolnton; five sisters, Christine Dixon, and Blanche Black, both of Crouse, Mabel Greene, and Themla Hoyle, both of Shelby, and Marie Sigmon, of Cherryville; and two grandchildren, Harley Creighton, and Miranda Creighton.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lincoln County, 107 N. Cedar St., Lincolnton, N.C. 28092.

Willie Verdin
Willie James Verdin, 93, of 208 Hollow Road, died July 28, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Boger City United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at 4 p.m. in the Mauldin United Methodist Church Cemetery in Mauldin, S.C. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
Born in Greenville County, S.C., he was the owner of Verdin’s Dairy until retirement.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Pound of Lincolnton; and one grandchild, Greg Pound; and two great-grandchildren, Addyson Pound, and Lyndsi Pound.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Minnie Lee Towery, 69, of 103 Patterson Road, died July 26, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Founders Chapel at McLean Funeral Directors. Burial will follow in Evergreen-A Quiet Place in Belmont. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8 at the funeral home.
Born in Lincoln County, she was a member of Assembly of Faith Church and was self-employed as a beautician.
Survivors include three daughters, Glenda Penley of Asheville, Pinkie Witherspoon of Kings Mountain, and Wanda Johnson of Lincolnton; a brother, Flint Thomas Fortenberry of Dallas; a sister, Masie Fortenberry Thomas of Gastonia; five grandchildren, Steven Rice, Michelle Lee, Jonathan Towery, Crystal J. Crutchfield, and Shannon Gaffney; and seven great-grandchildren.

Paul Harkey
Paul Taylor Harkey, 79, of 1018 East Catawba Street, died July 27, 2002. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. today in Hollybrook Cemetery.
Born in Gaston County, he was a U.S. Army WWII veteran, and worked as a supervisor for Burris Industries until retirement. Survivors include two daughters, Carole Bumgarner of Greenville, S.C., and Darole Williams of Lincolnton; one brother, Kenneth “Bud” Harkey of Lincolnton; one sister, Martha “Sis” Garver of Lincolnton; six grandchildren; Penny Jones, Jackie Bumgarner, Susan Williams, Bobbie Williams, Johnny Bumgarner, and Donna Warren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Ronald Fisher
Ronald Eugene Fisher, 49, of 1230 Spring Dale Park Road, formerly of 706 Main Avenue S.E. in Hickory, died July 28, 2002. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born at Fort Monroe in Hampton, Va., he was employed with maintenance at Lenoir-Rhyne College.
Survivors include two daughters, Tammi O’Rourke of New Jersey, and Gena-Re Fisher of Lincolnton; his mother, Evelyn Fisher Camilli of Scottsdale, Ariz.; three brothers, Bill Fisher of Richmond, Va., Jeff Fisher of Voorhees, N.J., and Kevin Fisher of Mt. Holly; one sister, Sissy Cox of Pemberton, N.J.; and two grandchildren.

Lisa Friday
Lisa Marie Friday, 41, of 414 South Flint St., died July 27, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today in the chapel at E.F. Drum Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Born in Lincoln County, she was a member of Mr. Olive Holiness Church, and worked as a spinner for Duckhead in Maiden. She was also a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Franklin Friday Jr. and Brandon Lee Friday, both of Lincolnton; four brothers, Grady Shuford Jr. of Wilmington, Edward Asbury Shuford of Foster Shuford of Charlotte; and three sisters, Sally Shuford and Anita Worthy, both of Lincolnton, and Denise Boyd of Salisbury.

Florence Mathisen
MAIDEN - Florence E. Mathisen, 85, of 4874 Graystone Lane, died July 27, 2002. No services will be held.
Born in Long Island, N.Y., she was a member of Denver United Methodist Church in Denver, and was employed as a telephone operator for Nine X, Verizon Communications until retirement.
Survivors include her husband, Karl Mathisen.
E.F. Drum Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Thurman Cline
CROUSE - Thurman Cline, 88, of 419 Hephzibah Church Road, died July 29, 2002.

Karen Ellis, 27, of 637 Owls Den Road, died July 27, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday a Macedonia Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes prior to the service.

SHELBY - Lottie Mae Hopper Lee, 92, of 1800 Kinston Road, died July 27, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Eskridge Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes prior to the service.

Wayne Schronce
CROUSE - Wayne Raymond Schronce, 43, of 940 Old Lincolnton-Crouse Road, died July 29, 2002. A private service will be held at a later date.
Born in Lincoln County, he worked as a dyer for Mohican Mills.
Survivors include a son, Preston Schronce of Denver; a daughter, Alicia Schronce of Denver; his mother, Christine Black of Crouse; three brothers, Eddie Schronce of Belmont, Johnny R. Schronce, and Donald Steve Schronce, both of Crouse.
