Kathie Alane Krafft, 18, of Lincoln County, died July 27, 2002. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Westport Baptist Church in Denver.
Born in Lincoln County, she had attended Bandys High School.
Survivors include her parents, Nita and David “Scott” Hardin; a brother, CTR# Michael P. Krafft of the U.S. Navy; her grandparents, David and Kay Hand of Eatonton, Ga., Gaylord Krafft of Thomasville, Ga., and David and Brenda Hardin; and her great-grandfather, Lee Jarvis of Sherrill's Ford.
Memorials may be made to the local A.S.P.C.A.; Humane Society; or Hospice of Catawba Valley.
Vining Ivy Hill Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Edward Bass
SHELBY — Edward L. Bass, 82, of 306 Wilson Street, died June 28, 2003.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 3 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
Enloe Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Mack Hopper
SHELBY — Mack Hopper Jr., 71, of White Oak Manor, died June 28, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Webb Memorial Lawns. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2 p.m. prior to the service.
Enloe Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

J.D. Carver
MAIDEN — J.D. Carver, 73, of 4790 Kent Street, died June 30, 2003. Funeral services will not be scheduled at this time.
Born in Graham County, he was a U.S. Army Veteran and served in the National Guard and was employed with the Gaston County School System in the Maintenance Department.
Survivors include two sons, David Carver and Charlie Carver both of Gastonia and four sisters, Donnie Phillips and Mary Edna C. Walker both of Gastonia, Lora May Hill of Bessemer City and Clara Walker of Alexis.
Burke Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Sue Watts
LAWNDALE — Hettie Sue Cook Watts, 72, of Fallston Road, died July 1, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bingham Memorial Evangelical Methodist Church, where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 tonight at Stamey Funeral Home.
Born in Cleveland County, she was retired from Hickory Furniture, Winn-Dixie and Wal-Mart.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Kirkendall of Lawndale and Patsey Davis of Louisiana; two brothers, Cecil Cook of Vale and Carl Cook of Hickory; two sisters, Louise Doster of Connelly Springs and Artie Davis of Vale; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.

Mae Young
MAIDEN — Mae Martin Young, 83, of Country Manor No. 1, died July 1, 2003. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Goodin-Drum Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 tonight at Goodin-Drum Funeral Home.
Born in Cherokee County, she was a toe seamer in the textile industry.
Survivors include four sons, Roy Young of Curtin, Ore.; Willard Young of Hickory, Verlin Young of Shelby and Delano Young of Newton; one daughter, Charlene Canipe of Maiden; three brothers, Austin Martin of Franklin, Howard Martin of Murphy, Arnold Martin of Georgia and Robert Martin of Tenn.; two sisters, Cora McMahan of Lexington and Emma Jean Patterson of Murphy; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Conover Adult Life, Box 275, Conover, NC 28613.

Velma Saine
Velma Hallman Saine, 91, of 521 N. Aspen Street, died July 2, 2003.
Arrangements are incomplete at Warlick Funeral Home.

P. Carpenter
Patricia Powell Carpenter, 55, of 354 Victory Grove Church Road, died July 2, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Victory Grove Tabernacle. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 tonight at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born in Lincoln County, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, John R. Carpenter of the home; one son, Johnny A. Carpenter of the home; two daughters, Pamela C. Mixon of Lincolnton and Tammy Blanco of Japan; one brother, Ted Goins of Vale; seven sisters, Jane Carpenter, Carolyn Hefner, Christene Auton, Rita Powell, Linda Chambers all of Lincolnton, Helen Carpenter of Cherryville and Wanda Adams of Shelby; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

George Hoyle
MAIDEN — George Richard “Richie” Hoyle, 45, of 408 W. Finger Street, died July 1, 2003. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Burke Mortuary. The family will receive friends following the service.
Born in Catawba County, he was a manager at Springs Road Sporting and Shooting.
Survivors include his parents, George L. and Barbara M. Hoyle of Maiden and two brothers, Randy Hoyle of Marietta, Ga. and Jeff Hoyle of Conover.

J. McGuire
NEWTON — Josephine Lail McGuire, 75, of 1009 Spruce Wood Lane, died July 1, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Corinth Reformed United Church of Christ, where she was a member. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at Burke Mortuary.
Born in Catawba County, she was retired from Carolina Mills and worked as a bookkeeper for Industrial Motor Rewinding.
Survivors include her husband, Morris McGuire of the home; one son, Johnny McGuire of Hickory; one daughter, Marsha Greene of Mt. View; one brother, Victor Lail Jr. of Conover; one grandson, Chris Sigmon of New York and two granddaughters, Jennifer Sigmon of Newton and Emily McGuire of Hickory.

Lester Clark
Lester Mark Clark, 76, of 576 Hill Road, died July 1, 2003. Services will be private.
He is survived by his wife, Era Grace Clark.

Born in Lincoln County she was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Reynolds of the home; one daughter, Cindy Reynolds of the home; two brothers, Herman Engle of Hardin and Howard Engle of Vale and one sister, Nell Ingle of Lincolnton.

Buddy Martin
MORGANTON — Buddy Michael Martin, 21, of 3418 Dean Road, died July 1, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at EF Drum Funeral Home. Burial will follow in High Shoals Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
He was born in Lincoln County.
Survivors include his father, Jerald L Martin of High Shoals; mother, Gloria A. Martin of Morganton; God parents, David and Rebecca Martin of Cherryville; four brothers, David Martin of Cherryville, Jerald L. Martin II of Morganton, Kenny Martin of Gastonia and Jeffery Martin of Myrtle Beach, SC and one sister, Pam Barrette of Cherryville.

George Conner
KINGS MOUNTAIN — George W. Conner Sr., 62, of 122 Conner Drive, died July 2, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. at Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenters Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date. The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Born in Cleveland County he was retired from Dora Mill.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Sue Laws Conner; one son, George W. Conner Jr. of Kings Mountain; two daughters, Lisa Corriher of Shelby and Donna Conner of Kings Mountain; two step-daughters, Linda Payne of Waco and Christina Metz of Sanantonia, Texas; one brother, Jack Conner of Kings Mounatain; three sisters, Brenda Lovelace, Martha Costner and Sara Conner all of Kings Mountain; six grandchildren, David Corriher, Trudy Corriher, Johnny Corriher, Nickoe Payne, Christopher Oates and Jennifer Oates and his in-laws, Virginia and Thomas Laws of Cherryville.

Todd Johnson
LAWNDALE — Todd Garland Johnson, 35, of 428 Elam Road, died July 2, 2003. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Shiloh United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Born in Pipestone, Minn. he was at paramedic with the Catawba County EMS and an active member of upper Cleveland County Rescue Squad.
Survivors include his parents, Dallas and Carolyn Johnson of the home; one son, Jesse Johnson of Lawndale and one brother, David Johnson of Maiden.

SHELBY — Ruth H. Murray, 84, of 3146 Fallston-Waco Road, died July 3, 2003. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.
Born in Cleveland County she was a homemaker.
Survivors include one brother, Hillary Hamrick of Shelby and a number of nieces and nephews.
