Alma Osteen Wall Hamrick, 80, of Newton, died Oct. 11, 2000, at her residence after a period of declining health.
Born Sept. 17, 1920, in Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late Eldridge H. and Genevea Hanson Wall.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lincolnton.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers, James Wall, Julius Wall, E.H. Wall Jr., Joseph Wall, Howard Wall, Perry Wall and Grady Wall; and four sisters, Ruth Curry, Aileen Wall, Mildred Pearl Delaney and Polly Phillips.
Survivors include her husband, Howard Edd Hamrick; two sons, Howard Dale Hamrick of Lincolnton and Thomas Buren Hamrick of Hickory; two daughters, Annie Hamrick of Icard and Connie Sisk of Hickory; a brother, Olen D. Wall of Columbia, S.C.; three sisters, Laurette Hamrick of Mount Holly, Edna D. Hamrick of Houston, Texas, and Linda J. Price of Ellenboro; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Fred Hawkins and David Jones at 3 p.m. Friday at Catawba Funeral Home.

Pauline Houston Eckard, 82, of Twentieth Street, NE, died Oct. 10, 2000, at her residence after a period of declining health.
Born Dec. 6, 1917, in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late Robert H. and Etta Shook Houston.
A member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church ELCA, she worked in the housekeeping department with Catawba Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry J. Eckard; three brothers, David Lee Roy Houston, Vernon Edgar Houston and Robert Pinkney Houston; and seven sisters, Myrtle Bell Houston, Keeron Houston, Rosy May Houston, Vertie Estell Houston, Effie Lee Houston, Mamie Ethel Houston and Willie Ardeen Houston.
Survivors include two sons, Barry Eckard of Burnsville and Norman Eckard of Vale; two daughters, Jo Ann Stafford and Judy Finncannon of Newton; six grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.

VALDESE - Jacob Albert Rudisill, 86, of Decker Road, died Oct. 10, 2000, at Autumn Care of Drexel.
Born Oct. 26, 1913, in Burke County, he was a son of the late Miles R. and Bettie Aderholdt Rudisill.
Retired from Deluxe Printing Company of Hickory, he was active in the Burke County REACT Team and served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Verdie Winifred Rudisill; five stepchildren, Edna Bumgarner of Rutherford College, Maudie Saine of Connelly Springs, Margaret Elder of Richmond, Va., Beth Redmond of Fairview and Carl Lowman of Statesville; a sister, Lenora Eckerd of Rutherford College; and 16 stepgrandchildren.

Donald Lee King, 50, of Connelly Springs, died Oct. 10, 2000, at Frye Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 21, 1950, in Baltimore, Md., he was a son of Arrie Lail King Self of Hickory and the late Roy Lee King.
Employed by J & D Trucking Company, he served in the U.S. Marine Corp.

LENOIR - Hollis Basil “Buddy” Hoffman, 79, of Glendale Street, NW, died Oct. 9, 2000, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 31, 1921, in Lexington, he was a son of the late Hollis P. and Isabell Yount Hoffman.
A member of First United Methodist Church of Lenoir, he retired as an insurance salesman. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he also was a member of Hibriten Masonic Lodge 262 and the North Carolina Shriners Association.
He was preceded in death by three sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Lyon Hoffman; a son, Tim Hoffman of Galax, Va.; and a daughter and son-in-law, Anita Hoffman and Barry Watson of Asheville.
A graveside service was held Wednesday in Blue Ridge Memorial Park with military graveside rites.

A member of Globe Baptist Church, he was a former member of the Lenoir Moose Lodge and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired from AFG Industries and Burlington Industries.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard Miller, Bob Isaac Miller and Eugene Miller.

A member of Zack's Fork Baptist Church, she was a GA girls teacher and served in the W.M.U. She was a furniture worker with National Veneer for 25 years.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harley “Elmer” Benton Blevins; and a brother, Donald Burgett.

STATESVILLE - Blanche Steele Reitzel, 92, died Oct. 11, 2000, at Mapleleaf Health Care Center in Statesville.
Born April 23, 1908, in Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Dick N. and Addie Knox Steel.
A charter member of Forest Park Presbyterian Church, she was a lifetime member of the Women of the Church. A retired educator, she taught in the elementary and junior high school levels. She served as a principal at East Newton Junior High and taught at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
A former state secretary of the State Retired Teacher Association, she was a librarian and past president of Iredell County Council on Aging and was membership chairwoman and charter member of the Widowed Persons Organization of Statesville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton E. Reitzel; a brother, Raymond K. Steele; and a sister, Dorothy Shell.
Survivors include a brother, Kenneth F. Steele of Statesville; and two sisters, Evelyn Llewellyn and Mildred Pence of Statesville.

A member of First Baptist Church in Taylorsville, he served as treasurer of his Sunday school class for a number of years. He was a self- employed mason for 60 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Louise Sharpe Simmons; and a sister, Elsie Watts.

He was a former member of St. Gabriels Catholic Church in Greenville and the John Ivey Smith Council of Knights of Columbus.
A member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, he is a third- degree Knight with the William T. McShea Council of Knights of Columbus which was named for his late uncle, Father William T. McShea, a longtime pastor at St. Charles Church.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, William S. Carroll and Patrick Carroll.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Irene Farris Carroll; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Hugh J. and Melissa Carroll Jr. of Greensboro and William J. STONY POINT - John Oakley Guy, 75, of Duncan Street, Sparta, died Oct. 12, 2000, at his residence after a period of declining health.
Born Oct. 24, 1924, in Iredell County, he was a son of the late James A. and Octa Bruce Guy.
A member of North Dale Baptist Church in Charlotte, he retired as a machinist with Ronson Hydraulic in Charlotte.
He was preceded in death by three sons, Larry Michael Guy, Albert Lee Guy and Kenneth Eugene Guy; a brother, James Woodrow Guy; and a sister, Mary Sue Montgomery.
Survivors include his wife, Opal Miller Guy; two sons, James Thomas Guy of Davidson and David Lynn Guy of Mooresville; two daughters, Teresa Ann Rues of Orlando, Fla., and Cynthia Rene'e Guy of Buthune, S.C.; a brother, Lawrence Guy of Stony Point; two sisters, Aliene Souls of Thomasville and Margaret Adams of Asheboro; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Frank Binson and Roger Newton at 4 p.m. today at Chapman Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Mount Zion Community Cemetery in Cornelius.

TAYLORSVILLE - George Henry Teague, 80, of Valley Nursing Center, formerly of Hoyle Keller Loop, died Oct. 14, 2000, at Valley Nursing Center.
He was born April 27, 1920, in Alexander County.
A member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Hickory, he was a former employee of Clayton-Marcus.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eva Helen Baker Teague; and a daughter, Nancy Teague.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Cline Teague; a son, Ernest Teague of Granite Falls; four daughters, Judy Hart of Stanley and Shirley Barnes, Marlene Williamson and Charlene Teague of Taylorsville; two brothers, Leonard Teague of Taylorsville and Buret Teague of Bethlehem; 12 grandchildren, Jennifer Casse, Steve Barnes, Eva Frazier, Jason Frazier, Angela Ham, Robert Teague, David Teague, Misty Wyatt, Teresa Wyatt, Melinda Wyatt, Leroy Hard and Susan Hart; and two great- grandchildren, Felica Casse and Devin Honeycutt.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Andy Chandler at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Adams Funeral Home.
Burial will be in St. Stephens Lutheran Church Cemetery.
The family will be at Adams Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at his residence at other times.

Burial will be in Catawba Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by members of American Legion Post 16 of Newton.

LENOIR - Pearl Beaver Greer, 94, of Connelly Springs Road, died Oct. 13, 2000, at Caldwell County Hospice.
Born Jan. 22, 1906, in Caldwell County, she was a daughter of the late Frank J. and Mary Elizabeth Canner Pope.
A member of Pisgah Baptist Church, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Volis Beaver, her second husband, Talf W. Greer; a brother, Monroe Pope; and two sisters, Jonsie Missmore and Corey Pope.
Survivors include four sons, Joe Raymond Beaver and Floyd Raynard Beaver of Lenoir, Jerry Donnal Beaver of Lewiston, Idaho, and Willard Buddy Beaver of Butler, Tenn.; three daughers, Lois C. Pope of Lenoir, Lucille Bayse of Lynchburg, Va., and Azalee Elizabeth Burris of Springfield, Mo.; a brother, Donnal Pope of Las Vegas, Nev.; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Horace Minton and Wally Smith at 2 p.m. Monday at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

MORGANTON - David Wayne Hicks, 37, of First Street, died Oct. 14, 2000, at Grace Hospital after a period of declining health.
Born Sept. 9, 1963, in Burke County, he was a son of Emogene Duckworth Hicks of Morganton and the late James Harold Hicks.
A member of Burkemont Baptist Church, he was a former employee of Morganton Dying and Finishing and Premier Hosiery.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Karen Biddix Hicks; two sons, Andrew Hicks and Steven Hicks of the home; three daughters, Katie Hicks, Sarah Hicks and Allison Hicks of the home; four brothers, Carlo Duckworth, Robert Allen Hicks, Michael Hicks and Dennis Hicks of Florida; and his father- and mother-in-law, Lewis and Audrey Louise Biddix of Marion.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Marty Bess at 4 p.m. Monday at Grace Baptist Church.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.

ROCKY MOUNT, Va. - Douglas Andrew Vess, 52, of Rocky Mount, died Oct. 12, 2000.
A 10th-degree Black Belt, he was the owner and operator of Sorin-Sorei-Tyu-Krate-Do in Rocky Mount.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Vess; three sons, Dereck Vess of Lenoir, N.C., Aaron Vess of Tennessee and Andrew Vess of the home; a sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Don Anderson of Roanoke; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Ron Hill at 2 p.m. today at Flora Funeral Service Inc.
A private burial will be held Monday in Sherwood Memorial Park.
HARRY L. FINGER
Harry L. Finger, 75, of Hickory, died Oct. 13, 2000, his residence after a period of declining health.
Born July 4, 1925, in Burke County, he was a son of James F. and Kemmie Wilson Finger.
He retired as a watch maker.
Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth Chronister of Hickory; and a nephew, David Lee Chronister of Lincolnton.
A graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. Homer Greene at 11 a.m. Monday in Oakwood Cemetery.

Born April 15, 1944, in Caldwell County, she was a daughter of Esther Bowman Lingle of the home and the late Marvin Wilson Lingle.
A secretary, she attended Sunrise Baptist Church.
