AXTON, Va. - Beulah McSwain Chisholm, 74, of 65 Pasadena Knoll, died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at Alexandria Hospital, Alexandria, Va.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Seagrove. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Joseph L. Chisholm Sr., retired from Stanley Furniture and was a member of Bibleway Holiness Church, Danville, Va., where she was an usher and a missionary.

Surviving are sons, Gilbert Leon Chisholm of Charleston, S.C., Williard Wayne Chisholm of Suitland, Md., Franklin Cleo Chisholm of Martinsville, Va.; daughter, Christine McLaughlin of Seagrove; brothers, Sylvester McSwain of Siler City, Hardin McSwain of Seagrove; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Hairston Funeral Home, Martinsville, Va., 7-8 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

John J. Weaver Jr.
John James Weaver Jr., 76, of Asheboro, died Tuesday, July 6, 1999 at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service was 2 p.m. Thursday at Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte, with Maj. Susan McClure and Pastor Ben Chavis officiating.

He was a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., retired after 25 years in the U.S. Army, having served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam, and where he had been awarded numerous medals. He is a graduate of the Salvation Army Officers Training School, Atlanta, Ga., a graduate of the Police Academy in Pinelleas Park, Fla. and served as a police officer for nine years in Kenneth City, Fla.

Surviving are wife, Mildred Bowles Weaver of Asheboro; daughters, Sadie Alexander of Stanfield, Yvonne "Bonnie" Weaver of St. Petersburg, Fla., Teresa Hoover of Asheboro, Elaine Hope Weaver of Charlotte; son, John James Weaver III of Mt. Airy; four sisters; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Lowe-DeBord Funeral Home of Charlotte is in charge of the arrangements.

Mozelle W. Harger
RANDLEMAN - Mozelle Wright Harger, 62, of 3207 Plainfield Road, Sophia, died Wednesday, July 7, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at South Plainfield Friends Meeting, where she was a member, with the Rev. Paul Wyatt and the Rev. Wayne Pugh officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Sandy Ridge, Va.

Surviving are husband, John "J.T." Harger of Sophia; daughter, Donna H. Jackson of Sophia; mother, Blondie Wright of Eden; brothers, Clyde Wright of Eden, Floyd Wright of Walnut Cove; sister, Catherine Smith of Mayodan; one granddaughter.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home of the daughter, 3207 Plainfield Road, Sophia.

Robert L. Vickery
CLIMAX - Robert L. "Bob" Vickery, 78, of 5916 Liberty Road, died Monday, July 5, 1999.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Julian United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. David Howard and the Rev. Lynn Cash officiating. Burial will be in Gilmore Memorial Park, Julian.

He was a native of Guilford County, a retired construction superintendent, a member of the Woodmen of the World and a founding member of the Southeast Fire Department.

Surviving are wife, Evelyn Quate Vickery of the home; daughters, Rebecca Burton of Julian, Linda Kay Jessup of Falls Church Va., Donna Allen of Cary; six grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

Clyde T. Beck
DENTON - Clyde Thomas Beck, 71, of 151 Cid Road, Lexington, died Wednesday, July 7, 1999, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Cid United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Alvin Pope and the Rev. James T. Webb officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Davidson County and the owner/operator of Clyde Beck Trucking Co.

Surviving are wife, Ruth Swing Beck of the home; son, Michael Beck of Lexington; daughters, Cecilia "Sissy" Freedle, Diane Freedle, Dawn Prevette, Susan Watson and Brenda Ward, all of Lexington, Carolyn Harris of Thomasville, Cathy Barringer of Oakboro; sisters, Doris Pierce and Virginia Warner, both of Thomasville, Imogene Tysinger of Lexington, Joyce Ann Beck of Denton; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

Gordon M. Brown
ANDERSON, S.C. - Gordon Melvin Brown, 52, died Wednesday, July 8, 1999, in Anderson, S.C.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Seagrove, with the Rev. Clyde Comer officiating.

He was a native of Moore County, a U.S. Army veteran, was in the band, The Mavericks, and formerly operated Brown's Builders in High Point.

Surviving is brother, Ray Brown of Trinity.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 9-10:30 a.m. Friday.

Billy W. York
Billy Wayne "Bill" York, 60, of 1605 Plantation Circle, Asheboro, died Thursday, July 8, 1999, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at First Christian Church, Ramseur, with the Rev. Richard Wright officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Knoll Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a National Guard veteran and a paint contractor for Routh Builders.

Surviving are wife, Gloria Routh York of the home; daughter, Carrie Y. Ausband of Asheboro; brothers, Jimmy York and Bob York, both of Asheboro; sister, Virginia Craven of Asheboro.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

Rev. John H. Matthews Jr.
SEAGROVE - Rev. John Henry Matthews Jr., 31, of 5420 Farmstead Road, died Thursday, July 8, 1999, at Charlotte Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. John Baptist Church, Asheboro, with Bishop Bobby Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Piney Ridge U.M. Church Cemetery, Seagrove.

He was a minister of music at several area churches and a 1987 graduate of Eastern Randolph High School.

Surviving are parents, John and Betty Matthews of the home; sisters, Sheila Johnson of Pittsburgh, Pa., Diane Hill of Asheboro; brothers, William Campbell of Asheboro, Kenneth Marsh of Chapel Hill, Kevin Marsh of the home; grandmother, Dorothy Matthews of Seagrove.

The family will be at the church 7-8 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

Gailes Funeral Service, Asheboro, is in charge of the arrangements.

Myrtle Allred
FRANKLINVILLE - Myrtle Allred, 93, of 400 Vision Drive, Asheboro, died Thursday, July 8, 1999, at Sunbridge for Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur. Burial will be in Giles Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, a homemaker and a member of Franklinville Wesleyan Church.

Surviving is sister, Anna B. Allred of Meridian Falls.

The family will be at the funeral home 1-2 p.m. Saturday.

William E. Murray
LIBERTY - Wllliam Earl Murray, 70, of 6541 Alamance-County Line Road, died Thursday, July 8, 1999, at UNC Medical Center, Chapel Hill.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, with Dr. Charles Adams officiating.

He was a native of Guilford County, retired from Sobar Graphics in Greensboro, attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church, was a former member of the National Historical Railroad Society and was a volunteer at the Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington.

Surviving are wife, Nell S. Murray of the home. daughters, Brenda Carte of Franklinville, Linda Bulla of Burlington; son, Phillip Murray of Liberty; sisters, Linnie Rush of Greensboro, Wonnie Chovinard of Wisconsin; brothers, Silas Murray of Wilmington, Paul Murray and Floyd Murray, both of Greensboro; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

Carolyn R. Clendenin
GREENSBORO - Carolyn Reid Clendenin, died Thursday, July 8, 1999.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro, where she was a member.

She was a member of the Agape Sunday School Class and Circle Number 10 at her church. She was a music teacher and choral director for 25 years and taught at Bessemer High School, Lindley Junior High, Southeast High School and Southwest Guilford High School. She was the Supervisor of Music for the Guilford County Schools. She was also a member of the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra Guild, the Euterpe Club, and the director for the Greensboro Boys Choir. She was a Boy Scout leader who became one of only two women in the area to receive the Wood Badge of Scouting.

Surviving are husband Robert Clendenin; son, Carter Reid Clendenin; brothers, Harold Lee Reid, Marion Clendenin, Chick Clendenin of Greensboro, Harry Clendenin of Madison; one granddaughter; one stepgrandson.

The family will be at the church following the service.

DENTON - Jonathan Kyle Cook, 16, of 424 Ross Lee Road, died Wednesday, July 7, 1999, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Alleghany United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Peter McGuire officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a rising senior at South Davidson High School.

Surviving are parents, Greg and Beverly Leonard Cook of the home; brother, Christopher Brian Cook of the home; sister, Samantha Leigh Cook of the home; grandparents, Johnsie Cook of Gold Hill, Hallene Leonard of Lexington.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

James C. Dunn
STAR - James Calvin Dunn, 75, of 1230 Hogan Farm Road, died Wednesday, July 7, 1999, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Dover Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Dr. Don Davis, the Rev. Lonnie Gibson and the Rev. Hal Cason officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Daisy Hussey Dunn of the home; sons, Eric Dunn and Darrell Dunn, both of Star; sisters, Frances Culler and Ada Monroe, both of Seagrove; brother, Grady "Bill" Dunn of Seagrove.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Samuel Boggs
VASS - Samuel Boggs, 70, died Friday, July 9,1999, at Pinelake Health Care in Carthage.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Grove Cemetery in Vass.

Surviving is brother, W. Preston Boggs of Vass.

The family will be at Fry-Prickett Funeral Home in Carthage 7-8 p.m. Saturday.

Harlen Ashley
Harlen Ashley, 83, of 400 Vision Drive, Asheboro, died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation of Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Brent Franco officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Kentucky, the widower of Louise Marie Chaney Ashley, retired from working in the coal fields of West Virginia and retired from Klopman Mills in Central Falls.

Surviving are sons, Delmar Lee "Dale" Ashley of Kemore, Wash., Wiliam Randall "Bill" Ashley of Seagrove; daughters, Mary Elizabeth Nelson of Silver Springs, Md., Reta Mae Stanaway of Newport News, Va., Brenda Kay Ocheltree of Asheboro, Dorothy Lynn Schneider of Greensboro; sisters, Isabelle A. Wynn of Springfield, Ohio, Luvernia A. Hughes of Hazard, Ky., Ella Mae A. Jordan of Milan, Ind., Dorothy A. Chambers of Fayetteville, Martha A. Chapin of Sebring, Fla.; 22 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Annie L. Campbell
Annie Lineberry Campbell, 81, of 328 Ennis St., High Point, died Friday, July 9, 1999, at her home.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

She was a music teacher in High Point and the widow of James Calvin Campbell.

Carol P. Wood
Carol Joyce Paulsen Wood, 63, of 616 Shamrock Road, Asheboro, died Friday, July 9, 1999, at her home.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Central United Methodist Church, Asheville, where she was a member.

She was a native of Erie, Pa., owned and operated several gift shops, had received a Bachelor's degree from Nyack College and a Master's degree at Oneonta State Teacher's College, both in elementary education, and a B.A. from the American Institute of Applied Arts in interior design.

Surviving are daughters, Beth W. Kearns of Asheboro, Stephanie Wood of the home; sister, Naomi Branch of Valparaiso, Ind.; brother, David Paulsen of Rolla, Mo., Robert Paulsen of Erie, Pa.; one grandson.

Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, is in charge of the arrangements.

RANDLEMAN - Claudia Irene Beasley Black, 79, of 7256 Magnolia Lane, died Thursday, July 8, 1999, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at White Plains Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Bill Tucker, the Rev. Roger Porter and the Rev James Sweeney officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Virginia Beach, Va., the widow of Evangelist Paul H. Black and a home missionary.

Surviving are son, Paul E. Black of Randleman; sister, Shirley Johnson of Peoria, Ill.; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Moody Funeral Home of Mount Airy, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Ted McIntyre
TROY - Ted McIntyre, 54, of 399 Roslyn Road, died Friday, July 9, 1999, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Stoney Fork Baptist Church, Mt. Gilead, with the Rev. Cabot Inman and the Rev. Jessie Dennis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a line supervisor at Realistic Furniture Industries and a member of Westbrook Baptist Church.

Surviving are wife, Brenda Crepps McIntyre of the home; brothers, Joseph William McIntyre of Troy, Jack McIntyre of Cana, Henry McIntyre of Caryville, Fla.; sisters, Doris Haywood and Minnie Poole, both of Troy.

BEAR CREEK - Annie Mae Andrews Phillips, 94, of 3703 Vander Oldham Road, died Thursday, July 8, 1999, at Sun Bridge Care Facilities, Siler City.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Tyson Creek Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Bob Wachs and Dr. Walter YoHo officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Guilford County, the widow of Guy Hobson, a retired secretary, a former Sunday school teacher and member of the WMU at her church.

Surviving are sisters, Pauline A. Wilkie of Gulf, Gladys A. Gustina of Camp Hill, Pa., Frances A. Denton of Wilmington.

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, is in charge of the arrangements.
