HOPE MILLS - Houston Melvin, 74, of 1446 Sands Hill Road, died Monday, July 26, 1999, at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Baptist Union Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. M.B. Hayes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Cumberland County, a U.S. Army veteran and a truck driver.

Surviving are wife, Helen Hodges Melvin of the home; daughters, Vivian M. Salas of Fayetteville and Debra Kay Melvin of the home; sons, Kenneth R. Melvin of New York and Andre L. Melvin of Hope Mills; sisters, Irene Sansbury, Ruth Lasane and Juanita Hicks, all of Hope Mills, and Thelma Battle of Durham; five grandchildren.

The family will be at the church one hour prior to the service.

C.C. Hodges Funeral Service in Asheboro is in charge of arrangements.

Larry M. Hinshaw
Larry Michael Hinshaw, 53, of Asheboro Health and Rehabilitation, died Thursday, July 29, 1999, at his residence.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. July 31 at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. C.L. Simmons officiating. Burial will be in New Union United Methodist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County and active with Jim's Kids.

Surviving are mother, Bernice Hinshaw of Asheboro; sister, Sharon Hollingsworth of Asheboro; brother, Ronnie Hinshaw of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Miquel M. Perez
Miquel Martinez Perez, 29, of 933 Randolph Tabernacle Road, Asheboro, died Friday, July 16, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral services will held at a later date in Mexico. Burial will be in the Panteon Municipal, Raudales Malpaso Chiapas, Mexico.

Surviving are wife, Lola Martinez Perez of Mexico; mother, Epitacia Perez Montez of Mexico; brothers, Juan Perez and Pedro Perez, both of Mexico; sisters, Alejandrina Perez, Irais Perez and Francisca Perez, all of Mexico.

Velatorio DIF of Chiapas, Mexico, is in charge of arrangements in Mexico. Cunningham and Sons Mortuary Inc. is in charge of local arrangements.

Frances C. Giles
FAYETTEVILLE - Frances Clark Giles, 77, of 230 Pinecrest Drive, died Thursday, July 29, 1999, at her home.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Highland Presbyterian Church, where she was a member.

She was a member of the Emma Lee Howie Bible Class at her church.

Surviving are daughters, Bonnye York of Asheboro and Beverly Herbert of Decatur, Ga.; three grandchildren.

Randy Hayes
SILER CITY - Henry R. "Randy" Hayes, 43, of 932 Lambert Chapel Road, died Thursday, July 29, 1999, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Moon's Chapel Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Scott Faw, the Rev. Carl Hemphill and the Rev. Dwight Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, an upholsterer and a member of several committees at his church.

Surviving are wife, Denise Hicks Hayes of Siler City; daughters, Susan Ann Hayes and Jessica May Hayes, both of Asheboro; sister, Brenda Martin of Siler City; brother, Doug Hayes of Siler City; grandfather, Ralph Hayes of Bear Creek.

The family will be at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. Friday.

He was a native of Moore County, a musician and attended N.C. Central College and Appalachian State University.

Surviving are mother, Sarah Shamburger Person of Southern Pines; father, Jesse Person of Durham; sister, Tyasha Person of Southern Pines; brother, Billy Shamburger of Southern Pines; grandmother, Frances Person of Carthage.

She was a native of Elizabethtown and a homemaker.

Surviving are sons, Paul Franklin Ezzell of Asheboro and Warren Albert Ezzell of the home; daughters, Linda Ezzell of the home, Vickie Teague of Asheboro, Janette Hulin of Raleigh, Mary Williams of Clarkton and Katie Ann Mize of Staley; brothers, Hubert Davis, Nathan Davis, Phillip Davis and Tony Davis, all of Elizabethtown; sisters, Leda Matheru and Julia Davis, both of Elizabethtown, and Elizabeth Davis of Louisiana; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Gladys Vada Patterson Adams, 83, of 104 Oakhurst Drive, Asheboro, died Friday, July 30, 1999, at her home.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Asheboro United Church of Christ, where she was a member, with the Rev. J. Nathan King officiating. Burial will be in Marlboro Friends Meeting Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and the widow of John E. Adams.

Surviving are daughter, Jane Adams of Asheboro; sons, John E. Adams Jr. of Raleigh and David R. Adams of Asheboro; sisters, Faye Patterson Smith, Margaret Patterson Harkey and Bertha Patterson Burkhead, all of Asheboro; one granddaughter.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home 4-5:30 p.m. Sunday and other times at the home.

James Coy Clay, 93, of Sunbridge Nursing Center, Asheboro, formerly of Liberty, died Thursday, July 29, 1999.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Lewis Grove Holiness Church in Liberty.

Larry Davis, 65, of 3483 New Hope Church Road, Asheboro, died Friday, July 30, 1999, at his home.

A private service will be held.

He was a native of Randolph County, a retired carpenter and a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Glenda Davis of Asheboro; daughters, Lisa Gardner, Pamela Heath, Carol Hill and Angela Kearns, all of Asheboro, and Cynthia Kearns of Denton; son, Jimmy Lee Davis of the home; sister, Doris Hayes of Asheboro; six grandchildren.

Ridge Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Glen A. Fore
Glen Abner Fore, 61, of 1172 Oakland Ave., Asheboro, died Saturday, July 31, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Calvary Independent Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Neil C. Poole and the Rev. Tim Fore officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Lee County and retired from Harrelson Rubber Co.

Surviving are wife, Vivian A. Fore of Asheboro; sons, Phillip Fore of Ramseur, Tim Fore of Asheboro and Derrick Britt of Denton; daughter, Glenda Bunting of Asheboro; stepdaughters, Sherry Carter and Charlene Kidd, both of Asheboro; sisters, Margaret Diffie of Brunswick, Ga., and Mildred Needham of Asheboro; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Elizabeth Ann Rich Voncannon, 59, of 1542 Ridge Mountain Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, July 31, 1999, at her home.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Grays Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and a homemaker.

Surviving are fiancé, Bobby McDowell of the home; daughters, Janet Laughlin McDaniels and Brenda L. Dalton, both of Randleman, and Doris Faye Peele of Asheboro; son, Jessie Ray Laughlin Jr. of Franklinville; sisters, Evelyn Barker of Randleman and Dorothy Lewallen of Asheboro; brother, Pete Rich of Asheboro; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home 10 a.m.-noon Tuesday.

Rev. James C. Hall
RANDLEMAN - The Rev. James Craig Hall, 52, of 1096 Worthville Road, died Saturday, July 31, 1999, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Church Street Baptist Church in Greensboro, where he was a member, with the Rev. Keith Purser, the Rev. Bud Rowe and the Rev. Charles Mustain officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park.

He was a native of Guilford County, employed for several years as a truck driver for Mail Contractors of Arkansas and was founder of "The Trucker's Friend" ministry.

Surviving are wife, Patricia Hall; daughters, Teresa H. Fowler and Amy L. Hall, both of Randleman, and Christie H. Benoy of Greensboro; son, Allen Craig Hall of the home; sister, Shelba Warf of Greensboro; two granddaughters.

The family will be at Church Street Baptist Church 7-9 p.m. Sunday and other times at the home.

DENTON - William Kenneth "Bill" Hatley, 65, of 345 Sexton Road, died Friday, July 30, 1999, at Community General Hospital in Thomasville.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Arnold Comer and the Rev. Mark Andrews officiating. Burial will be in Denton Town Cemetery.

He was a native of Stanly County, a member of Gravel Hill Baptist Church, a U.S. veteran, retired from Burlington Industries and employed at Denton FarmPark. He was a past member of the Denton Lions Club, a past master of Denton Masonic Lodge 404 and served on the Davidson County Planning Board.

Surviving are wife, Hildreth Huffman Hatley of the home; daughter, Janice Shuskey of Denton; sister, Clara McDowell of Asheboro; two grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday and other times at the home.

MOORESVILLE - Bobbie Jean Smith Humble, 65, died Tuesday, July 27, 1999, at her residence.

Memorial service was 4 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Cornelius, where she was a member, with the Rev. Robert Hinman and the Rev. J.E. Wayland Jr. officiating.

She was a native of Asheboro, a graduate of Asheboro High School and a retired emergency room technician at Carolinas Medical Center.

Surviving are sons, Randy Humble of Moscow, Idaho, and Jeff Humble of Mooresville; daughters, Tami Hager of Cornelius and Lisa Lee of Clover, S.C.; sister, Catherine Kirkman of Asheboro; seven grandchildren.

She was a native of Randolph County, a member of Liberty Friends Meeting, retired from Liberty Chair Co. and the widow of N.G. "Gib" Jordan.

Surviving are sons, Earl Clay Jordan of Randleman, Arthur L. "Art" Jordan of Julian and Roy "Buster" Jordan of Staley; sisters, Lola Gregson and Inez Hunt, both of Liberty, and Mamie Teague of Staley; brother, J.C. Smith of Peoria, Ill.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Bertha S. Nooe
DENTON - Bertha Flora Surratt Nooe, 89, of Tru-Care of Archdale, formerly of High Point, died Friday, July 30, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Chris Smith officiating.

She was a native of Davidson County, a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and a homemaker.

Surviving are sons, Robert Nooe of Archdale, Teddy Darrell Nooe of Oak Ridge and Clayton Nooe and Milford Nooe, both of High Point; daughter, Lucille King of High Point; brothers, Buren Surratt of Denton and Max Surratt of Greensboro; sisters, Ann Loflin of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Betty Harrison and Edith Russell, both of Denton, and Grace Hill of New Hope; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday.

WILSON - William Willard "Bill" Whitt, 75, of 4761 E. Ward Blvd., died Thursday, July 29, 1999, at his home.

He was a native of Chatham County and attended West End Methodist Church.

Surviving are brothers, Ronald Whitt and Charles Whitt, both of Siler City.

He was a native of Montgomery County, employed with Energizer Plant 2, a trustee at his church and a coach for the Seagrove 2 softball team.

Surviving are wife, Joan Macon Auman; daughters, Beth Auman and Kathryn Auman, both of the home; parents, Boyd and Verlene Brewer Auman of Seagrove; brother, Rex Auman of Seagrove; sister, Sadie Vereyken of Level Cross.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 6:30-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.
