TROY - Tommy Rudolph Deaton, 75, of 610 Beaman Road, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at her home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Wesleyan Church, Troy, with the Rev. Jim Sheets officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a member of First United Methodist Church, Carthage, and a retired superintendent with Perdue Farms, Inc.

Surviving are daughter, Vivian D. King of the home; sons, Adrian Deaton of Troy, Mickey Deaton of Atlanta, Ga.; brother, Burton Deaton of Troy; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, is in charge of the arrangements.

Forrest Avery Jr.
PATERSON, N.J. - Forrest Avery Jr. of Paterson, N.J., died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, in Paterson.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Seagrove.

He was the widower of Bessie Spinks Avery.

Surviving are daughters, Hilda A. Hall and Benita A. Johnston, both of Miami, Fla.; son, Rodney James of Paterson, N.J.; six grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 2-4 p.m. Saturday.

Christy Laurn Richardson, infant daughter of Lynn Hamm and Mark Richardson of 3528 Kemp Mill Road, Asheboro, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, in Lexington, Ky.

Graveside service was 11 a.m. Friday at Oaklawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Tommy Kidd officiating.

Surviving are brother, Charles Keisele Diehl III of the home; grandparents, Cary Lloyd and Jackie Richardson of Asheboro, Debra Roar of Ramseur, Jeff and Rondi Hamm of Argilite, Ky.; great grandparents, Earl and Rachel Allred of Randleman, Betty and Jimmy Roar of Wurtland, Ky., Betty and Oval Hamm of Flatwood, Ky., great-great-grandmother, Rita Marshall of Nokomis, Fla.

Samuel J. Burrow Jr.
Samuel Jackson Burrow Jr., 81, of 306 King Charles Lane, Cary, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Central United Methodist Church, Asheboro, where he was a member, with the Rev. William Christopher Thore officiating. Burial will be in Browers Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Asheboro.

He was a graduate of Asheboro High School, attended Wake Forest College, was a World War II U.S. Army Air Force veteran and was awarded the Junior Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Service Award as Asheboro's outstanding Young Man in 1950. He was a past president of the Randolph County Young Democrat Clubs, a 1956 delegate to the Democratic National Convention, was associated with the Bank of Randolph for 23 years, and represented the Equitable Life Insurance Company. He was a member of the North Carolina Rural Electric Authority, the Board of Trustees, Winston-Salem State College, in 1962 was a member of the Governor's Special Study Commission to recommend major improvements in the care of the mentally ill, and was a member of the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army. He was elected to the N.C. House of Representatives and the State Senate, and was elected Reading Clerk to the N.C. House of Representatives and served for 30 years and was a former teacher of the Senior High Youth and a member of the Official Board of Stewards at his church.

Surviving are wife, Lynda Edwards Burrow of Cary; daughter, Jane B. Hayworth of Asheboro; sons, Dr. Samuel Jackson Burrow III and Dr. William Henderson Burrow, both of Charlotte; eight grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home of his daughter, 619 Oakmont Drive, Asheboro.

Norman Dean Wolfe, 70, of 1034 Spring Village Drive, Asheboro, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, at his home.

SEAGROVE - Rosa Hussey Williams, 77, of 4883 Benjamin Road, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Riverside Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Harold Baker and the Rev. Charles Lassiter officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and a retired employee of the Burlington Industries Ramseur plant.

Surviving are daughter, Joyce Deaton of Seagrove; sons, Weylon Williams and Winfred Williams, both of Seagrove; sisters, Stella Garner of Robbins, Essie Moore of Seagrove; brothers, Carl Hussey and Willie Hussey, both of Seagrove; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Hazel P. Threadgill
RANDLEMAN - Hazel Proctor Threadgill, 86, formerly of Randleman, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Country Holiness Cemetery, with the Rev. Kenneth Reaves officiating.

She was a native of Forsyth County, a member of First Baptist Church in Randleman and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughter, Sandra T. Varner of Ramseur; stepdaughters, Geneva Rich and Frances McArthur, both of Randleman, Jackie Gaddy of Chesterfield, S.C.; sisters, Ida Mae Goins of Kernersville, Lois Franklin of Winston-Salem; brothers, Hubert Proctor and William Proctor, both of Winston-Salem; 19 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, noon-2 p.m. Sunday.

Lucille K. Stephens
LIBERTY - Lucille Kivett Stephens, 85, of 3384 Hinshaw Country Road, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Fairview Cemetery, Liberty, with the Rev. Wayne Dunn officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Wayne Stephens, a retired employee of Klopman Mills in Ramseur and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are son, Edward "Burster" Stephens of Liberty; sisters, Lena Thomas ot Westfield, Beatrice Turner of Liberty; one grandson.

Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, is in charge of the arrangements.

Nusie K. Purvis
ROBBINS - Nusie Kidd Purvis, 91, of 192 Clarence Road, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Ray Brooks officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Alice Mae Baber and Dot P. English, both of Robbins; sons, Robert C. Purvis, Wesley Purvis and Vernon Purvis, all of Robbins; sister, Lillie K. Purvis of Robbins; brother, Daniel Kidd of Robbins; 16 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren.

CARTHAGE - George Glascock Muse, 77, of Erwin, Tenn., formerly of Carthage, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, in Erwin.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Carthage United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Terry Huffines officiating. Burial will be in Cross Hill Cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a retired building supply salesman.

Surviving are son, Thomas E. Muse of Cornelius; daughter, Marsha Davis of Raleigh; two grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 1-2 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service.

Beulah Jane Hammond Varner, 96, of 5026 Lassiter Mill Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. David Roudabush officiating. Burial will be in Farmer Methodist Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Phillip Garner and Henry Varner, a member of Hopewell Friends Meeting and was retired from Stedman Corp.

Surviving are daughters, Lucille Armstrong of Asheboro, Edna Britt of Midland; sons, Jimmy Garner and Ralph Garner, both of Asheboro; stepdaughters, Virginia Russell and Ruth Byrd, both of Asheboro, Gladys Robertson of Wilmington; stepsons, Hal Varner of Mocksville, Everette Varner and Homer Varner, both of Asheboro; brother, Howard Hammond of Asheboro; 18 grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Jimmy Garner, Old Uwharrie Road, Asheboro.

Norman D. Wolfe Sr.
Norman Dean Wolfe Sr., 70, of 1034 Spring Village Drive, Asheboro, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Victory Fellowship, where he was a member, with the Rev. Dean Wolfe Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Davidson County, a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, retired from Showell Farms and a part-time employee for South Asheboro Middle School.

Surviving are wife, Marie Wolfe of Asheboro; daughters, Myra Farling of Dunkirk, Ind., Sharon Skeen of Thomasville, Denise Maness of Asheboro; sons, Kelly Wolfe of Robbins, the Rev. Dean Wolfe Jr. of Asheboro; stepson, Richard Hoots of High Point; father, Walter Wolfe of Asheboro; brothers, Hubert Wolfe of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Colon Wolfe and Dallas Wolfe, both of Ramseur; 10 grandchildren.

COLERIDGE - Peter Franklin Garner, 94, of 5448 Keith Drive, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, at Chatham Hospital, Siler City.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Deep River Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bob Boyd and the Rev. Tim Strider officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, retired from Randolph Mills and was a retired farmer.

Surviving are sons, Henry Franklin Garner of Ramseur, Charlie Ray Garner of Cherokee, Robert Lee Garner of Asheboro; daughters, Clarice Mae McCuistion of Ramseur, Faye Mozelle Hunt and Dorothy "Dot" White, both of Asheboro, Judy Ann Cox of Randleman; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 6,30-9 p.m. Monday.

SOUTHERN PINES - Charles Robert Sullivan Jr., 72, of Southern Pines, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999.

He was a native of Moore County, a World War II U.S. Merchant Marines veteran, a co-owner of Sullivan's Footwear in Southern Pines and a Realtor.

Surviving are daughter, Patricia Graham of Seven Lakes; sons, C. Robert Sullivan III of Germany, Timothy Andrew Sullivan, M.D. of Hershey, Pa.; brothers, Max Sullivan of Carthage, Joe Warren Sullivan of Fayetteville; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
