TROY - Roland Hussey, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy.

Ruth C. McDonald

GOLDSTON - Ruth Clark McDonald, 79, of 2236 Lakewood Falls, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998, at Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Antioch Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Kenneth Harris officiating. Burial will be the church cemetery.

She was a native of Cleveland, Tenn., a homemaker and a member of the Senior Ladies' Joyful Sunday School class.

Surviving are daughter, Tanya Ellington of Chapel Hill; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Bill Hughes
William Howard Hughes, 78, of Friends Home, Greensboro, died Monday, Feb. 16, 1998, at the home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Asheboro Friends Meeting, where he was a member, with the Rev. Robert Kidd officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Esther Beane Hughes, a World War II U.S. Army-Air Force veteran, was employed with the U.S. Postal Service for 40 years and was former Superintendent of Mails in the Asheboro office.

Surviving are wife, Thelma McGill Hughes; daughters, Billie Parks of Mebane, Jane Wright of Trinity, Sue Memory of Greensboro; stepson, David Carl Purcelle of Hickory; stepdaughter, Peggy Trogdon of Randleman; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, N.C. 27405.

Clyde C. Allred

RANDLEMAN - Clyde Cebert Allred, 87, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Doris Gray Allred, formerly employed with North State Chevrolet in Greensboro, retired from the Randleman Store and was a member of Mount Lebanon United Methodist Church.

Surviving are brother, William "Bill" Allred of High Point; sisters, Nellie Noel of Sophia, Vivian Nelson of Salisbury.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Nellie Noel, 4943 Walker Mill Road, Sophia.

Ethel P. Callaham

HIGH POINT - Ethel Pritchard Callaham, 97, died Monday, Feb. 16, 1998, at Presbyterian Home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home, High Point. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park.

She was a native of Asheboro, the widow of Paul William Callaham, a member of First United Methodist Church and was the first president of the High Point Exchangette Club.

The family will be at the funeral home 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service.

Willetta H. Pennington

FRANKLINVILLE - Willetta Hodges Pennington, 92, of 3553 Kidds Mill Road, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998, at Brian Center Health & Rehabilitation, Asheboro.

A graveside service will be noon Thursday at Beal Memorial Cemetery, Fort Walton, Fla., with the Rev. Maurice L. Hodges officiating.

She was a native of Jackson, Miss., and a homemaker.

Surviving are brothers, John G. Hodges of Rome, Ga., Maurice L. Hodges of Smackover, Ark.; stepdaughters, Betty Meyer of Westminister, Colo., Virginia Lower of Sarcoyie, Mo.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

W. Clyde Patterson

RAMSEUR - William Clyde Patterson, 84, died Monday, Feb. 16, 1998, at Brian Center Health & Rehabilitation, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Parks Cross Roads Christian Church, with the Rev. James Turner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired from Acme-McCrary Corp., Ramseur, had been employed with Mid-State Furniture, Highfalls, and attended Parks Cross Roads Christian Church.

Surviving are son, William Alan Patterson of Westfield, S.C.; daughter, Toni Priddy of Ramseur; brothers, Hugh Charles "H.C." Patterson Jr. of Asheboro, Glenn Charles Patterson of Ramseur; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

ROBBINS - Robert Harold Powers, 69, of 724 Calvin Road, died Monday, Feb. 16, 1998, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Mary M. Johnson

SANFORD - Mary Velma Marley Johnson, 77, of 6101 Deep River Road, died Monday, Feb. 16, 1998, at Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Jones Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Jack Hunter and the Rev. Everette Eason officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and a member of the Methodist Women at her church.

Surviving are husband, W. Henry Johnson; sons, Michael R. Johnson of Sanford, Phillip N. Johnson of Apex; daughter, Faye Hearne of Garner; brothers, Grover Marley of Liberty, Hubert Marley of Burlington; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home, Sanford, 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to Jones Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Gaston J. Young

MAXTON - Gaston James Young, 86, of 435 S. Austin St., died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998, at Scotland Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Maxton, where he was a member, with the Rev. Norvin Forrester, the Rev. Merle Johnson and the Rev. Robert Ivey officiating. Burial will be in Old Hollywood Cemetery, Lumberton.

He was a retired self-employed paint contractor, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a member of the local Disabled American Veterans and past deacon and a member of the Edward's Bible Class at his church.

Surviving are wife, Elizabeth Hayes Young of the home; daughters, Jean Medlin of Wilmington, Carol Nolan of Asheboro, Sylvia Hayes of Maxton; half brother, Charles H. Young of Raleigh; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium, Laurinburg, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Charlotte Von Cannon

FAYETTEVILLE - Charlotte Von Cannon, 73, formerly of Asheboro, died Monday, Feb. 16, 1998, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at LaFayette Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with Pastor Bryan Lee officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Cemetery.

Surviving are sons, Joey Glenn Von Cannon, M.D. Hutchinson, both of Fayetteville; daughter, Pat Webb of Fayetteville; brothers, Charles Baker Jr. of Zebulon, Steven Baker of Asheboro; sisters, Betty Burrow, Judy Davis, Blanche Minnick, all of Asheboro; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of the daughter, 2012 Merrimak Drive, Fayetteville.

Rita I. Garletts
Rita I. Garletts, 79, of Harrisonburg, Va., died Tuesday, March 3, `1998, at the home of a daughter, Nancy Kirby, 1721 Tot Hill Farm Road, Asheboro.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro.

Callie S. Brock

BISCOE - Callie Sikes Brock, 83, of Autumn Care Nursing Home, died Monday, March 2, 1998, at her home.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Southside Cemetery in Troy.

She was a native of Richmond County.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home in Troy immediately before the service.

Virginia N. Corbin

PLEASANT GARDEN - Virginia Louise Nichols Corbin, 70, of 5718 Surrie Trail, died Monday, March 2, 1998, at her home.

Funeral and burial will be in Altoona, Pa.

She was a native of Altoona, Pa., and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Sharon Haddad of the home, Michele Reale of Lake Mary, Fla., and Linda Corbin of Upland, Calif.; three grandchildren.

Hazel B. Dagenhart

TAYLORSVILLE - Hazel Viola Bowman Dagenhart, 87, of Wayside Church Road, died Sunday, March 1, 1998, at Alexander Community Hospital.

Funeral service was 4 p.m. Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church in Taylorsville, where she was a member, with Dr. Charles Dickson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Alexander County, graduated from Bethlehem School, earned a teaching certificate from Lenoir-Rhyne College, was a teacher at Bethlehem School and in Catawba County Schools, and was the widow of Ernest Shaver Dagenhart.

Surviving are son, Harold Dagenhart of Taylorsville; daughters, Lois Hudson of Hildebran and Alice Dawson of Asheboro; brothers, Claude Bowman of Hickory, Ernest Bowman of Vale and Lynn Bowman and Bruce Bowman, both of Taylorsville; sisters, Ruth Clontz of Bethlehem and Ethel Shook of Taylorsville; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran, P.O. Box 82, Taylorsville, N.C. 28681.

Louise W. Gordon

SILER CITY - Louise White Gordon, 81, of 3786 Airport Road, died Sunday, March 1, 1998, at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Smith and Buckner Chapel, with the Rev. Dwight Jenkins and the Rev. Kenneth Huggins officiating. Burial will follow in Brush Creek Baptist Church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County, retired from Chatham Hospital, a member of Brush Creek Baptist Church and the widow of Lester Ray Gordon.

Surviving are sons, Frank S. Gordon and Herman Gordon, both of Staley; daughters, Betty G. Brewer of Siler City, Nellie G. Cockman of Bear Creek amd Martha G. Fesmire of Atlantic Beach; sister, Polly Marley of Siler City; brothers, James White, Bill White and Pete White, all of Siler City; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Jeanette M. Greene

GRAY, Tenn. - Jeanette Myrtle Greene, 75, died Sunday, March 1, 1998, in Johnson City Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Cranberry Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Burnop and the Rev. Doug Foster officiating. Burial will follow in Tanglewood Cemetery.

Surviving are daughters, JoAnne Bowden of Ramseur and Nancy Gilbert of Pell City, Ala.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Newland 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Pearl C. Hulin

DENTON - Pearl Clay Hulin, 87, of Mountain Vista Health Park, formerly of Anderson Street, died Monday, March 2, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Claudie Harrison officiating. Burial will be in Hughes Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Davidson County, attended Grubbs Grove Original Covenant Church of God and was a retired sawmill employee.

Surviving are son, LeRoy Hulin of Denton; daughters, Mildred Linthicum and Frances Garner, both of Denton; brother, Jesse Hulin of Denton; sister, Lula Hughes of Sparta; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday and other times at the residence of Von Garner, Ebal Church Road, Denton.

Elsie R. Stewart

BURLINGTON - Elsie Rachel Stewart, 88, of 105 Hillside Drive, died Monday, March 2, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oakwood Cemetery, with Dr. Michael Hobbs and the Rev. R.E.L. Moser officiating.

She was a native of Mebane, a member of Davis Street United Methodist Church, and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Finley W. Stewart of Burlington; daughters, Carolyn Buffaloe of Lumberton and Sara Ann Holt of Asheboro; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the home at 105 Hillside Drive.

Walker's Funeral Home of Mebane is in charge of arrangements.

Ronnie B. Madaris
Ronnie Baldwin Madaris, 76, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Fayetteville Street Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Adrian Pugh officiating. Burial will be in Dover Baptist Church Cemetery, Star.

She was a native of Randolph County, an orphan at Mills Homes, Thomasville and was as a welder for Glenn L. Martin during World War II.

Surviving are daughter, Deborah M. Reeder of Seagrove; sisters, Onnie Belding of Asheboro, Connie Smith of Clarksburg, W. Va.; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit, 1200 N. Elm St., Greensboro, N.C. 27401.

Thomas L. O'Briant III

Thomas Lorenzo "Tommy" O'Briant III, infant son of John Curt and Julia Yates O'Briant of 510 Worth St., Asheboro, died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, Ann Arbor, Mich.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Church of the Good Shepherd, with the Rev. Jay Hobbs officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Surviving in addition to the parents are brother, Christian Yates O'Briant of the home; grandparents, John and Peggy Jernigan of Durham, Roger and Annette Yates and Lillian B. O'Briant, all of Asheboro and the late Thomas Lorenzo O'Briant Sr.; great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Luke Lamb, Florine Yates, Irene J. Burrow, all of Asheboro.

The family will be at the home.
