BISCOE - Burton Edward Palmer, 76, of 406 Hurley St., died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Biscoe Cemetery, with the Rev. Michael Hollifield officiating.

Surviving are sons, Darrell Palmer and Gary Palmer, both of Asheboro; brother, William Palmer of Washington; stepson, Edward Brown of Carthage; stepdaughters, Claire Leach of Asheboro, Barbara Duck of Troy, Doris Ezzell of Sanford.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Loster C. Harris Jr.
MT. GILEAD - Loster C. Harris Jr. died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, in Wilmington.

Funeral service was 1 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church.

Harris Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, is in charge of the arrangements.

Minnie T. Jones
MT. GILEAD - Minnie Thomas Jones, 86, of 109 South, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Hamer Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Alex Willoughby and the Rev. Flynn Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Sharon Cemetery.

She was a native of Gaffney, S.C., and a retired employee of Smitherman Cotton Mills of Troy.

Surviving are sons, Robert Jones of Morven, Charles Jones of Mt. Gilead; daughters, Ruth Ellison of Hampton, Neb., Barbara Hoover of Troy; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at McKeithan Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, 5-7 p.m. Friday.

Ester W. Roberts
WEST END - Ester W. Roberts, 80, of Ester Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at her home.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Cross Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Max Gilmore officiating.

She was a native of Moore County, the widow of Charlie Logan Roberts and was retired from Moore Regional Hospital as Supervisor of Central Supply.

Surviving are daughters, Geneva Joyce of Greensboro, Betty Needham of Carthage; sister, Betty Lewis of Pinehurst; one grandson.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-8 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of Betty Needham, 431 Needhams Road, Carthage.

Ollie C. Dixon
ROBBINS - Ollie Cole Dixon, 85, of 141 S. Front St., died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, in Pinelake Health Center, Carthage.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Ernest Ferrell officiating. Burial will be in Pine Rest Cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, a retired nursing assistant at Montgomery Nursing Home, a member of American Legion Auxiliary and the DAV Auxiliary.

Surviving are husband, Charles R. Dixon of the home; son, Charles "Bobby" Dixon of Asheboro; two grandsons; two great-granddaughters.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday.

Richard L. Campbell
CANDOR - Richard L. Campbell, 51, of 112 Campbell Drive, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home, with the Rev. Russ Brown and the Rev. Doug Beadle officiating. Burial will be in McCallum Cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, a U.S. Army veteran and was employed with Samarkand Manor Youth Correctional Center.

Surviving are mother, Mary Campbell of Candor; brothers Steve A. Campbell of Randleman, Donald R. Campbell of Candor.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Friday.

William Curtis "Bill" Hodges, 80, of 742 Vestal Creek Court, Asheboro, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. William Christopher Thore and the Rev. Byron Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Falls United Methodist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Forsyth County, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, a member of Central United Methodist Church, was formerly employed with Bossong Hosiery and was retired from Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company.

Surviving are wife, Beatrice Phillips Hodges of Asheboro; son, William C. Hodges Jr. of Asheboro; sisters, Georgia Solomon of Richmond, Va., Deliairis Young of Bloomington, Ind.; brother, Howard Hodges of Winston-Salem; two granddaughters; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday.

James T. Holmes
James Taft Holmes, 91, of 233 W. Kivett St., Asheboro, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Mecklenburg County and a retired furniture worker and minister.

The family will be at the funeral home 2-4 p.m. Wednesday.

W. Grady Hoover
William Grady Hoover, 68, of 1387 Skeen View Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at his home.

A private graveside service will be in Mt. Tabor Community Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired from Prestige Fabricators and was a member of Mt. Tabor Community Church.

Surviving are wife, Lois Hoover of the home; daughter, Phillis Hoover of Asheboro; sons, Eddie Hoover and Darius Hoover, both of Asheboro, Lawrence Hoover of Ramseur; sisters, Cletus Parker and Jewel McDowell, both of Denton; brother, Albert Hoover of Kernersville; six grandchildren.

Lizzie T. Small
Lizzie Mae Tysinger Small, 86, of 3984 Golden Meadow Road, Asheboro, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Ray Swaney, the Rev. Darrell Summey and the Rev. Melvin Morton officiating. Burial will be in West Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Lindsay Small, attended West Chapel U.M.C. and was a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Thelma Harris of Denton, Doris Whitaker, Edna Dorsett, Ruth Wilson and Edith Cutshaw, all of Asheboro; son, John Thomas "Buck" Small of Asheboro; sister, Lillian Cutshaw of Ft. Mill, S.C.; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

L. Warren Latham
RANDLEMAN - Louis Warren Latham, 79, of 3419 Bethany Church Road, Franklinville, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Asheboro Health And Rehabilitation.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, with the Rev. Jim Honeycutt, the Rev. Curtis Mitchell and the Rev. Raeford Brim officiating. Burial will be in Faith Temple Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County and was retired from Laughlin Hosiery Mill.

Surviving are wife, Hazel Lucas Latham of Franklinville; daughters, Rebecca L. Patterson of Sophia, Vickie L. Boyd of Asheboro; sons, Kirby Lee Latham of Franklinville, R. Wayne Latham of Randleman; sister, Roxie George of Greenwood, S.C.; brother, James Fred Latham of Randleman; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Devane Hodgin
RANDLEMAN - Devane "DV" Hodgin, 78, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, Elm Street, Greensboro. Burial will be at Centre Friends Meeting Cemetery.

He was a native of Guilford County, a retired conductor for Southern Railway, a member of the United Transportation Union, a World War II U.S. Army-Air Force veteran and a farmer.

Surviving are wife, Stella Perdue Hodgin of the home; daughters, Barbara Jackson of Greensboro, Linda Marquis of Evergreen, Colo.; son, Rick Hodgin of Level Cross; three grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Monday.

Effie Yarborough
LIBERTY - Effie Yarborough, 85, of 4543 Woodvery Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, with the Rev. Bryan Fox officiating. Burial will be in Apex Cemetery Church.

She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are husband, Evans Yarborough of the home; daughter, Maxine Yarborough of Liberty; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday prior to the service.

Myrtle B. Aycock
DENTON - Myrtle Barker Aycock, 96, formerly of Varner Street, Denton, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Mountain Vista Health Park, Denton.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Monday at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, with the Rev. Peter McGuire officiating. Burial will be in Denton Town Cemetery.

She was a native of Morgan County, Ga., the widow of C. A. Aycock and a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.

Surviving are brother, Paul Barker of Andrews; sisters, Mildred Ray and Ruth Jones, both of Andrews, Katherine Palmer of Bridgeport, Ala.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 5-6:30 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home of Martha Loflin, South Main Street Ext., Denton.

DENTON - Adelaide Johnston Hunt, 72, of 403 S. Main St., died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Central United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Joe Collins officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

She was a a native of Cumberland County, England, retired from Burlington Industries as a quality control supervisor and was a member of the Davidson County Home Extension Club.

Surviving are husband, Armon Hunt of the home; sons, David A. Hunt of Mocksville, Charlie A. Hunt Jr. of Spruce Pine, Paul A. Hunt of Haw River; daughter, Genie Trickie of Denton; brothers, David Johnston of Alnwick, England, Tom Johnston of Stoke-on-Trent, England; sister, Margaret Simpson of Haltwhistle, England; nine grandchildren; five grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 5-7 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

Thelma W. Atkins
TROY - Thelma Wood Atkins, 90, of Lawyers Glenn Retirement Center, 10830 Lawyers Road, Charlotte, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at the center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Troy Presbyterian Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Chuck Cook officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery, Troy.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of Tom P. Atkins, an Elder at her church, past president of the Troy Woman's Club and a member of the Board of Trustees at Shiloh Methodist Church.

Surviving are son, Robert T. Atkins of Charlotte; sister, Mildred W. Reynolds of Jacksonville, Fla.; two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter.

The family will be at the church Immediately following the funeral service on Monday.

CARTHAGE - Raymond V. Frye, 73, of San Juan, Puerto Rico, formerly of Pinehurst, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, in San Juan.

Funeral service was 11 a.m. Friday in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Burial was in San Juan.

He was a native of Moore County and retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Master Sergeant after 25 years.

Surviving are wife, Noemi Frye of San Juan; daughters, Jeanette Francisco and Milie Frye, both of San Juan; son, R.V. Frye Jr. of San Juan; sisters, Edith Lee Faircloth and Marlene F. Bost, both of Pinehurst, Helen F. Faircloth of Fayetteville; brother, Melvin W. Frye of Southern Pines; five grandchildren.

Treva D. Yates
Treva Mae Davidson Yates, 91, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at University Medical Center in Knoxville, Tenn.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at West Bend Methodist Church, Asheboro, where she was a charter member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was the widow of Amos E. Yates, a graduate of Asheboro High School, a member of the Adult Center for Enrichment in Greensboro and St. Mary's Senior Day Care in Knoxville, Tenn.

Surviving are daughter, Carolyn Hardister of Greensboro; son, Sam Yates of Knoxville, Tenn.; stepdaughter, Sandra Inman of Level Cross; three grandsons; one great-grandson.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Lowell E. Clarke
WINSTON-SALEM - Lowell Earl Clarke, 75, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, Silas Creek Road, Winston-Salem, with the Rev. Henry Stokes officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memory Gardens.

He was native of Randolph County, a member of First Baptist Church, was retired from AT&T with more than 36 years and was a World War II veteran.

Surviving are wife, Josephine Clarke of the home; daughters, Susan Wooten and Sharon Lynn Clarke, both of Winston-Salem; son, David Lowell Clarke of Winston-Salem; sister, Melba Clarke of Asheboro; two grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday.

She was a native of Alamance County, the widow of Howard Edgar Blanchard Sr., a homemaker, attended Shallow Ford United Church of Christ and was a member of the Extension Homemakers Club.

Surviving are daughters, Sandra Boyd of Ramseur, Barbara James of Greensboro; sons, H. E. "Sonny" Blanchard Jr. of Sanford, Stephen R. Blanchard of Asheboro; brother, Lester Golden Squires Jr. of Graham; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Gladyce Moore
Gladyce Quick Moore, 76, of 394 Pinewood Road, Asheboro, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Burial will be at a later date in Dillon, S.C.

She was a legal stenographer with the U.S. Navy WAVES during World War II, had been a secretary for U.S. House Representative John L. McMillian and was a past president of the Pinewood Ladies Golf Association.

Surviving are husband, Ben Moore; sons, Jeffrey Moore of Columbia, S.C., Kevin Moore of Chester, N.J., Todd Moore of Asheboro; brother, Johnny Quick of Dillon, S.C.; five grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Friday.
