HOPE MILLS - Mattie Belle Hodges Patterson, 69, of 5970 U.S. 301 South, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Ft. Baptist Church, Parkton, where she was a member, with Dr. James Raye officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hebrew Cemetery.

She was a native of Cumberland County and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Arcelia Gates and Clara Ellis, both of Washington, D.C., Tryna Cliette of Maryland; son, Charles E. Patterson Jr. of Maryland; sisters, Helen Melvin, Bernice Douglas, Sylvia Smith, all of Hope Mills, Juanita Wilson of Queens, N.Y., Mabel Johnson of Columbia, Md., Dr. Claretta Dudley of Chicago, Ill., Barbara Pierre of Babylon, N.Y.; brothers, Charles Hodges Sr. of Asheboro, Carl Hodges of Durham, Thomas Hodges of Hope Mills, Clarance Hodges of Fayetteville, James D. Hodges of Montclair, N.J.; five grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 1-2 p.m. Saturday prior to the service.

C.C. Hodges Funeral Service, Asheboro, is in charge of the arrangements.

Larry C. Davis
Larry Carl Davis, 51, of 713 W. Balfour Ave., Asheboro, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Jim Honeycutt and the Rev. Thurman Williams officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County and employed with Caraway Speedway.

Surviving are father and stepmother, Carl H. and Ruby L. Davis of Asheboro; mother, Hilda L. Davis of Asheboro; daughter, Carla Furr of Asheboro; fiancée, Marty Lucas of Randleman; one grandson.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Minnie O. Lineberry
Minnie Owens Lineberry, 78, of 1645 Miles Moffitt Road, Asheboro, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Vencor Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Joe Brown officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Montgomery County and retired from Sew Special.

Surviving are daughter, Betty Stout of Coleridge; sister, Bessie Phillips of Asheboro; brother, Frank Owens of Sophia; one granddaughter.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Louise P. Martin
Louise Peebles Martin, 83, of Academy Street, Asheboro, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Poovey's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Granite Falls, with the Rev. Jim Walters officiating.

She was a native of Bollock, Ga., the widow of James W. "Red" Martin, a homemaker, and a member of First Baptist Church, Lenoir.

Surviving are son, James W. Martin Jr. of Asheboro; brother, Robert Earl Peebles of Augusta, Ga.; two grandchildren.

Pendry's Funeral Home, Lenoir, is in charge of the arrangements. Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, is in charge of local arrangements.

Jane S. Maturi
Jane Elizabeth Stieman Maturi, 79, of 3779 Zoo Parkway, Asheboro, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation.

A private memorial service will be held.

She was a native of Trenton, N.J., a homemaker, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Manatee County, Florida and a member of the VFW in Florida.

Surviving are son, William C. Maturi of Asheboro; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, is in charge of the arrangements.

Herman A. Thomas
Herman Albert Thomas, 81, formerly of Asheboro, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Robert Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park with military honors.

He was a native of Guilford County, a retired barber, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of Central Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are son, Vernie Thomas of Asheboro; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of the son, 1242 Old State Highway, Asheboro.

RANDLEMAN - Dewey Walter Jackson, 74, of Pleasant Garden, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Randolph Memorial Park, with military honors, with the Rev. Rusty Parsons officiating.

He was a native of Guilford County, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and retired from Thomasville Furniture.

Surviving are wife, Alice Freeman Osborne Jackson of Pleasant Garden; daughters, Susan J. Johnson and Julie J. Buscaino, both of California; son, Walter Lee Jackson of California; stepsons, Bennett C. Osborne of Springfield, Va., Bill Osborne of Randleman; stepdaughters, Mary Osborne Sams of Edmond, Okla., Sandi Osborne of High Point, Donna Osborne-Ogletree of Pleasant Garden; brother, G. Calvin Jackson of Greensboro; sister, Helen J. Tate of Maryland; two grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home of Donna Osborne-Ogletree, 7215 Branson Mill Road, Pleasant Garden.

J. Harold Jarrell
COLERIDGE - Joseph Harold Jarrell, 76, of 3921 Riverside Road, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Deep River Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Bob Boyd and the Rev. Michael Karns officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Dorothy McNeill Jarrell, retired from J. H. Allen and was a deacon and Sunday School teacher at his church.

Surviving are wife, Kathleen Harris Jarrell of the home; sons, Jerry Wayne Jarrell of Burlington, Jack Jarrell and Jeff Jarrell, both of Coleridge; stepdaughter, Edith Patterson of Clayton, Australia; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two stepgrandsons.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

DENTON - Robert Lee Hughes Sr., 81, of N.C. 109, New London, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, from a log cutting accident in Randolph County.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Center United Methodist Church, with the Rev. DeraId Smith and the Rev. Eddie Hill officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Davidson County and a self employed sawmill operator.

Surviving are wife, Thelma Fletcher Hughes of the home; son, Robert Lee Hughes Jr. of New London; stepson, Aaron Lee Fulghum of Apopka, Fla.; daughter, Libby Ann Hunt of Thomasville; stepdaughter, Alice McClellan of High Point; brother, Albert Hughes of New London; sisters, Effie Garren, Mae Hughes and Beulah Hughes, all of New London; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

ROBBINS - Louis Edward Fox Sr., 72, of 208 Leatherwood Lane, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at SunBridge Care in Siler City.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Joyce-Brady Funeral Home, Bennett.

Garnett L. Anderson
FAIRLEA, W. Va. - Garnett Lafon Anderson, 72, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Lewisburg, W. Va., with the Rev. Youel Altizer officiating. Burial will be in Greenbrier Memorial Gardens, Lewisburg, W. Va.

He was a native of Fairlea, W. Va., and a retired manager with Meadow Gold Dairy Company.

Surviving are wife, Lena M. Steagall Anderson of Fairlea, W. Va.; daughters, Brenda Glover of Covington, Va., Nancy Hunter of Rupert, W. Va.; sons, Larry Anderson of White Sulphur Springs, W. Va., Garnett L. "Butch" Anderson Jr. of Asheboro; brothers, Meredith Anderson of Fairlea, W. Va., Maynard Anderson of Organ Cave, W. Va.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

Brian P. Navarro
RANDLEMAN - Brian Perez Navarro, 13 months, of 522 Stout St., died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Country Holiness Cemetery, Randleman, with Father Joseph Mack officiating.

Surviving are father, Denetris Navarro of Randleman; mother, Maria Luisa Perez of Randleman; brother, Francisco Navarro of the home; half brothers, Rodrigo Navarro, Jose Manuel Navarro, Juan Carlos Navarro, Cesar Navarro; half sisters, Yesenia Navarro, Veronica Navarro, Cynthia Navarro; grandparents, Jose Navarro, Efignia Ramirez, Francisco Perez, Maria Piedad Hernandez.

The family will be at the home on Sunday.

ROBBINS - Louis Edward Fox Sr., 72, of 208 Leatherwood Lane, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at SunBridge Care in Siler City.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Green Hill Cemetery in Greensboro, with the Rev. Burton King officiating.

He was a native of Chatham County, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and a retired poultry farmer.

Surviving are son, Louis Fox Jr. of Robbins; daughter, Nancy Nichols of Ramseur; brothers, William McDaniel and Robert McDaniel, both of Siler City, Harold McDaniel of Bennett, Raymond McDaniel of Colfax; sisters, Lessie Cox of Bennett, Rachel Marley of Kernersville, Nancy Meekins of Asheboro; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Joyce-Brady Funeral Home, Bennett, is in charge of the arrangements.

ROBBINS - Mary Owen Hussey, 85, of 5903 Jabo Hussey Road, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Pine Lake Health Care in Carthage.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Needhams Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Jimmy Hussey and the Rev. James Cockram officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County and formerly worked at Forest Heights Family Care of Robbins.

Surviving are sons, Walter E. "Jabo" Hussey of Robbins, Rev. Jimmy Hussey of Danville, Va.; daughters, Betty Stone of Greensboro, Dot Smith of Robbins, Lola Kidd of Asheboro; brother, Melvin Owens of Seagrove; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Joyce-Brady Funeral Home, Bennett, 6-8:30 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home of Dot Smith, 5922 Jabo Hussey Road. Robbins.

Bobby R. Preslar
CARTHAGE - Bobby R. Preslar, 65, of 255 Brady Road, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Union Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. William A. Stewart Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from the N.C. Department of Correction after 23 years.

Surviving are wife, Linda Crissman Preslar; daughters, Brenda Bailey of Carthage, Melinda Reese of Laurinburg, Kimberly Shepherd of Cameron; son, Hank Preslar of Asheboro; brother, Fred Preslar of Robbins; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Alta R. Van Polen
SILER CITY - Alta Reed Van Polen, 91, of 900 W. Dolphin St., died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at SunBridge Care Facilities, Siler City.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, with the Rev. Ray Gooch officiating.

She was a native of Howell, Mich., and was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving are sons, William "Bill" Sartwell of Bear Creek, James F. "Jim" Sartwell of Ft. Meade, Md.; daughter, Diane Stenzel of Baltimore, Md.; one sister; two half brothers; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

George W. Brothers
LIBERTY - George W. Brothers, 81, of 6323 Coble Church Road, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, with Dr. Charles Adams and the Rev. David Cash officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Guilford County, the widower of Kate Brothers, was of the Methodist faith and retired from the City of Greensboro, the Fleet Maintenance Department. He was a charter member of the Kimesville Fire Department, a member of the North State Boat Club and was an AT&T Pioneer Partner.

Surviving are daughters, Diana Euliss of Liberty, Cindy Oliver of Graham; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 6-8 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

SILER CITY - Edgar Allen Andrews, 71, of 635 Bonlee-Carbonton Road, Bear Creek, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at Keller's Oak Haven, Sanford.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Bob Wachs officiating.

He was a native of Chatham County, retired from Hancock Milling and was a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are wife, Peggy Smith Andrews of Bear Creek; daughter, Diane A. Rives of Sanford; sister, Lydia A. Moore of Asheboro; one granddaughter.

The family will be at the church following the service.

RICHFIELD - Rebecca Jane Redwine Michael, 101, of Richfield, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at her home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Alleghany United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Peter McGuire officiating. Burial will be in Taylor's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Davidson County, the widow of Lacy L. Michael, a 1922 graduate of Churchland High School and she attended Appalachian State Teachers' College. She taught at Hamilton School in Rowan County and Cress School in Cabarrus County and was retired from Surratt Hosiery.

Surviving are daughter, Kirksey Shaver of Richfield; sister, Elizabeth Redwine Parker of Richfield; one grandson.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

SALISBURY - Kelsey Lee Leonard, 84, of Salisbury, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Forest Hill Memorial Park, Lexington, with the Rev. Bruce Graham officiating.

He was a native of Draper, the widower of Donna Isenhour Leonard, attended Draper schools, retired from Erlingers Cotton Mill in Lexington and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are son, Jerry Ronald Leonard of Asheboro; daughter, Peggy Jones of Mebane; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell, noon-1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Myrtle L. Auman
Myrtle Lucas Auman, 95, of 5909 Old Troy Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at her home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church, where she was a charter member, with Elder Richard Kirby and Elder Richard Cox officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Elsie G. Auman and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Isla Vuncannon and Nancy Wilson, both of Asheboro, Barbara Delk of Charlotte; sons, Charles Auman, Dalton Auman and Grayson Auman, all of Asheboro; sister, Laura Bell Betts of Asheboro; brothers, David Lucas and Joe Lucas, both of Asheboro, James Lucas of Homestead, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.
