ROBBINS - Herman Lee Russell, 72, of 1412 N. Moore Road, died Monday, March 20, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Ray Brooks officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a member of the Men's Sunday School Class, a former member of the Administrative Board and the church choir. He was a retired U.S. government poultry inspector.

Surviving are wife, Montie Maness Russell; daughter, Sandra R. Stephenson of Wake Forest; sons, Larry H. Russell of Chapel Hill, Jimmy L. Russell and Jerry A. Russell, both of Robbins; sister, Lucille R. Cockman of Carthage; brother, Charles E. Russell of Southern Pines; eight grandchildren.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

Celia S. Woodard
ROBBINS - Celia Sheffield Woodard, 89, of Tara Plantation, Carthage, formerly of 6939 N.C. 705, Robbins, died Monday, March 20, 2000, in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, with the Rev. Mike Holyfield officiating. Burial will be in Tabernacle United Methodist Church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughter, Dorothy Barclay of Lake Park, Ga.; sons, Benny Sheffield of Biscoe, Ernest Sheffield of Robbins; sisters, Etta Woodard of Greelyville, S.C., Ruth Williamson and Alice Hussey, both of Robbins; brother, Jim Sheffield of High Falls; two stepchildren; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Florence P. Underwood
ALBEMARLE - Florence Poplin Underwood, 91, of 33426 Old Salisbury Road, died Monday, March 20, 2000, at Britthaven of Piedmont.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle, with Elder Rom Kerley officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Oakboro.

She was a native of Stanly County and the widow of Roy Underwood. She attended Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Evelyn U. Farrar of Charlotte; brother, Johnny Ray Poplin of Marshville; sisters, Bobbie Smith, Elsie Burris and Ruby Smith, all of Albemarle, Faye McIntrye and Joyce Lineberry, both of Asheboro, Hazeline Herrin of Charlotte, Dolores Underwood of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two grandchildren; two stepgrandsons.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Betsy R. Hurley
Betsy Robin Hurley, 39, of 1391 Indian Wells Loop, Asheboro, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Southside Cemetery in Troy, with the Rev. David Pridgen officiating.

She was a native of Montgomery County and was previously employed at Carolina Pipe in Charlotte.

Surviving are parents, Bobby L. and Lavern Saunders Hurley of Biscoe; sisters, Annette Hurley and Debbie Kerns, both of Biscoe; grandfather, John Frank Saunders.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the parents home at 383 Brewer Lane, Biscoe.

David J. James
David Junior "DJ" James, 47, of 1452 Hasty St., Asheboro, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Larry Aikens officiating.

He was a Guilford County native.

Surviving are wife, Patricia James of Climax; daughters, Diane Antill of Asheboro and Tammy Hendrix of Orlando, Fla.; son, Jesse Connolly of New Berry, S.C.; sisters, Judy Freshour of Virginia Beach, Va., Cindy Hemrick of Winston-Salem, and Crystal Gilligan of Greensboro; brothers, E.A. James of Greensboro and Ricky Brown of Pleasant Garden; mother, Margaret Terry of Kernersville; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Louise E. Scotton
STALEY - Louise E. Scotton, 82, of 569 Old U.S. 421, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Staley Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. John Lindsay and the Rev. Sam Shores officiating. Burial will be in the Staley Cemetery.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Siler City and was a nurse at Chatham Hospital from which she was retired.

Surviving are sons, Bill Scotton and Jake Scotton, both of Staley; sister, Ruby Baldwin of Siler City; five grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home in Liberty 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home of Bill Scotton, 1839 Browns Crossroads, Staley.

Lucy Stevenson
Lucy Stevenson, 78, of 502 N. Elm St., Asheboro, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Legend Park United Methodist Church, where she was a charter member, with the Rev. Frances Browne officiating. Burial will be at Randolph Memorial Park.

A native of Randolph County, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Stevenson, and sons, John Preston Stevenson and William Michael Stevenson.

Surviving are daughter, Sharon Stevenson Knight of Smyrna, Ga.; sister, Doris King of Liberty; brothers, Paidge Coward of Liberty and Jim Coward of Chiefland, Fla.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

CARTHAGE - Edith Blue Black, 88, of Doub's Chapel Church Road, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at Pine Lake Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Culdee Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Chris Bobo officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Terry Crouse of Carthage and Mrs. Ann Chriscoe of Robbins; sons, Waylon Black of West End, and Wayne Black of Holden Beach; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home 7-8:30 p.m. Friday.

Glenn M. Beach
BISCOE - Glenn "Mack" McClain Beach, 73, of 118 N. Main St., died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Biscoe Presbyterian Church, where he was a member, with Dr. H. Alan Elmore officiating. Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Forest Hill Cemetery in Morganton.

He was a Burke County native, a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, retired owner and operator of Beach Dental Lab in Charlotte, retired from the N.C. Air National Guard, a member of Phalanx # 31 Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Scottish Rites in Charlotte.

Surviving are wife, the Rev. Anne Rogers Beach of Biscoe; daughter, Melody Smith of Albemarle; son, Byron Beach of Charlotte; brother, Arthur Carter Beach of Bandera, Texas; sisters, Lena Motter of Charlotte, Bonnie Young of Greensboro and Emily Roddey of North Augusta, S.C.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home in Star from 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Robert S. Schoeppler
RANDLEMAN - Robert Stuart Schoeppler, 46, of 4021 Millikan Road, Sophia, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Randleman, with the Rev. Kenneth Reaves officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of New York and was employed with TIMCO as a senior structural mechanic.

Surviving are wife, Susan Schoeppler of the home; son, Robert Schoeppler of the home; daughters, Tracy Graham of Franklinville, and Amanda and Elizabeth Schoeppler of the home; father, Robert H. Schoeppler of Jamestown; sisters, Susan DeBonis of Merrick, N.Y., and Jean Guerra of Hampton Bays, N.Y.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home in Randleman 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

Arnold V. Hunt
KERNERSVILLE - Arnold Virgil Hunt, 78, of 2817 N.C. 66 South, formerly of Oak View Road in High Point, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point, with the Rev. Donald R. Winters officiating. Burial will be in the Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, the widower of Jessie Williams Hunt, and a retired driver for Flavorich, Inc.

Surviving are sons, Eugene Hunt of Kernersville and Glenn Virgil Hunt of California; stepsons, Jesse T. Hunt of High Point and Jack D. Hunt of Archdale; sisters, Emma Thomas of Asheboro and Mary Ann Green of Seagrove; brothers, Coy Hunt, W.E. Hunt, Harland Hunt and Jerry Hunt, all of Asheboro, and Raymond Hunt of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Cumby Family Funeral Home 7-8:30 p.m. Friday.

"Frank" Stewart
CARTHAGE - W.F. "Frank" Stewart, 59, died Friday, March 24, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Summer Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Joe Peters officiating. Burial will be in Cross Hill Cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, a U.S. Army Veteran, past Master of Masonic Lodge # 181, and owner- operator of Frank's Food Center.

Surviving are wife, Peggy Smith Stewart of the home; daughters, Sharon Seawell and Kathy Carpenter, both of Carthage; sons, Richie Stewart of Apex and David Stewart of Carthage; sister, Blanch Medlin of Fayetteville; five grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday and other times at the residence.

Herbert A. Smith
SILER CITY - Herbert Allen Smith, 79, of 420 South Second Ave., died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at Hill Forest Rest Home in Goldston.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Siler City, where he was a member, with the Rev. Jim Wall officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, a World War II veteran and retired from the Siler City Public Works Department.

Surviving are wife, Mary Frances Ivey Smith of Siler City; daughters, Peggy Smith Ellington of Siler City and Ruth Smith Yates of Plymouth; son, Al Smith of Siler City; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. Friday and other times at the home.

Erica G. Martin
Erica Geneane Martin, infant daughter of Eric and Tracy Hunt Martin of 934 Greencastle Road, Asheboro, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Tabernacle United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Lee Roy Hunt and the Rev. Keith Bischer officiating.

Surviving in addition to the parents are grandparents, Lee Roy and Daphene Hunt of Asheboro and William and Tara Martin of Summerfield; great-grandmothers, Jessie Leonard of Denton and Eunice Hedrick.

RANDLEMAN - Benjamin Franklin "Bennie" Routh Sr., 67, of 4560 Salem Heights Ave., died Friday, March 24, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital in High Point.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Country Holiness Cemetery in Randleman, with the Rev. Jesse Wallace officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County, attended Randleman School and retired from Thomasville Furniture Industries.

Surviving are wife, Billie I. Routh of Randleman; sons, Frank Routh of Seagrove, Jeff Routh of Asheboro and Andy Routh of Randleman; sisters, Marie Routh, Isabelle Hunt, Lucille Ingold, all of Randleman, Hilda Underwood and Blanche Cox of Asheboro and Ethel Alexander of Charlottesville, Va.; brother, Wesley Routh of Climax; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday.

John M. Kirkman Jr.
RANDLEMAN - John M. Kirkman Jr., 84, died Thursday, March 23, 2000.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Randleman, where he was a charter member. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a veteran of World War II and a retired rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.

Surviving are wife, Evelyn Allred Kirkman; daughter, Peggy Woodlief of Greensboro; brother, Joseph Glenn Kirkman of Pensacola, Fla.

The family was at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

TROY - Nellie Haigler Campbell, 72, of 418 Hicks Road, Candor, died Friday, March 24, 2000, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Bruton Family Cemetery, Hicks Road, Candor, with the Rev. Dexter Gibson officiating.

She was a Union County native, a Baptist and a retired employee of J.P. Stevens Co.

Surviving are husband, Roger Campbell of the home; daughter, Frances C. Wallens of Boulder, Colo.; brother, Hubert Haigler of Sanford; sisters, Mildred Jarrell of Wadesboro, Edith Blakely of Clemmons and June Prestwood of Boca Raton, Fla; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

Thelma H. Hilton
WHITSETT - Thelma Hall Hilton, 94, of 2190 Herron Road, died Friday, March 24, 2000.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 4820 Liberty Grove Road, Liberty. Committal service will be 4 p.m. Monday at the Tucker Cemetery in Seagrove.

She was a Jehovah's Witness and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Troy E. Hilton of the home; daughter, Doris Hilton Fogleman of Whitsett; son, Lowell D. Hilton of Asheboro; brother, Dallas Hall of Greensboro; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Alice J. Wyatt
ROBBINS - Alice Jackson Wyatt, 76, of 196 Big Horn Road, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Church of God of Prophecy, where she was a member, with the Rev. Reginald McDougall officiating. Burial will be in the New Zion Cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County, a minister in her church and a member of the church choir and retired from Perdue Co.

Surviving are daughter, Helen Stanford of Aberdeen; sisters, Annie Jane Jackson and Callie Barrett, both of Greensboro, brother, Jake Jackson of Goldston; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-8 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

John C. Reynolds
ROBBINS - John Clayton Reynolds, 53, of 2368 Cedar Hill Road, died Saturday, March 25, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Smyrna United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Joseph Forbes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Era, a member of the Robbins V.F.W. Post #9245 and was project manager for D.R. Reynolds Construction Co.

Surviving are wife, Inez Ritter Reynolds of the home; daughters, Johnda R. Farlow of Randleman and Lindsey Reynolds of the home; son, John Christopher Reynolds of Robbins; sister, Mary Ann Ziomek of Coralville, Iowa; brother; Tom Davis Reynolds of Star; one grandson.

The family will be at the Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.
