ARCHDALE - Mrs. Ernie Voncannon Staley, 98, of Westwood Health and Rehab Center, formerly of 10303 N. Main Street, Archdale, died Monday, April 24, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, with the Rev. Harold D. Shives officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Walter John Staley, retired from Amos Hosiery Company after 40 years and was the oldest member of Archdale United Methodist Church.

Surviving are daughters, Helen Hunsucker of Asheboro, Thelma Hill of Vinton, Va.; sisters, Gertha Tucker of High Point, Glenna Graves of Asheboro; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials may be made to Archdale United Methodist Church, 11543 N. Main St., Archdale, N.C. 27263.

Robert P. Thompson
ARCHDALE - Robert Paul Thompson, 71, of 6549 Thompson Road, died Monday, April 24, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Sechrest Funeral Home, Archdale, with the Rev. Elton Welborn officiating. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park.

He was a native of Guilford County, a retired employee of Clyde Pearson Company, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are wife, Betty Harrelson Thompson of the home; daughters, Janice T. Blakely and Marilyn Thompson, both of Archdale, Carolyn Myers of Thomasville; sister, Vera Gray of Archdale; brothers, David F. Thompson of Archdale, Harold Thompson of Sophia; two grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 2-3 p.m. Thursday.

Joseph W. Gross
TROY - Joseph "Joey" Wayne Gross, 10, of 104 Cedar St., Mt. Gilead, died Monday, April 24, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Pee Dee Presbyterian Church, Mt. Gilead, with the Rev. Karen Parsons and the Rev. Alex Willoughby officiating. Burial will be in Sharon Cemetery.

He was a native of the Phillipines, a fourth grade student at Mt. Gilead Elementary School and attended Pee Dee Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are caregivers, with whom he lived, John and Beth Burroughs Hall of Mt. Gilead; father, James Gross of Abilene Texas; mother, Patricia Fields of New London, Conn.; brothers, Sean Gross of Mt. Gilead, Gabriel Gross of Abilene, Texas; grandparents, Alex and Treva Freeman of Mt. Gilead.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at 104 Cedar St. and 104 Highland Ave., Mt. Gilead.

Bert M. Monroe
EAGLE SPRINGS - Bert Malcolm Monroe, 48, of 5004 Big Oak Church Road, died Monday, April 24, 2000, at his home.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Bensalem Presbyterian Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Tom Williams and the Rev. Dawes Graybeal officiating.

He was a native of Moore County, had served in the National Guard and was self-employed as a farmer and heavy equipment operator.

Surviving are wife, Kathie DeLapp Monroe of the home; sons, Evan Stokes Monroe of West End, Erin Walter Monroe of the home; mother, Viola Williams Monroe of Eagle Springs; sister, Nina Hennis of Fuguay Varina; brothers, Ted Monroe and Randy Monroe, both of Eagle Springs.

The family will be at the home.

James C. Deberry
SALISBURY - James Clifton Deberry, 64, of 1939 Rosemont St., died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sharon Cemetery, Mount Gilead, with the Rev. Neill Shaw and the Rev. Jim Harris officiating.

He was a native of Richmond County, a graduate of Appalachian State College, a professor of Business and Economics at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College for over 30 years, a member of Milford Hills United Methodist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are mother, Elizabeth Haywood of Mt. Gilead; daughter, Julia C. Drummond; sister, Wanda E. Yarborough of Sanford; two grandchildren.

The family will be at 303 N. Main St. Mt. Gilead, Wednesday evening.

McKeithan Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, is in charge of the arrangements.

LEXINGTON, Texas - Larry Wayne Davis, 39, of Lexington, Texas, formerly of Sophia, died Sunday, April 23, 2000.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Lexington Community Tabernacle, Lexington, Texas.

Surviving are three children; two stepchildren; parents, J.W. "Bill" and Clara J. Davis of Sophia; sister, Faye Hughes of Randleman; brother, Gene Davis of Reidsville.

SEAGROVE - William Arthur Staley, 97, of 5705 Antioch Church Road, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at New Bensalem Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are son, Lonnie Staley of Siler City; daughters, Ruth Coble and Doris Gray, both of Greensboro.

The family will be at the church 1:30-2 p.m. Saturday.

William Wesley Hayes, 92, of 3470 Old Bachelor Creek Road, Seagrove, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Antioch Christian Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Andrew Scott, the Rev. Gerald Ward and the Rev. Howard Moffitt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a retired construction worker and attended Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Evelyn H. Auman of Seagrove; brothers, Carl Hayes, Clifford Hayes and Vernon Hayes, all of Seagrove; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Floy P. Williams
STALEY - Floy Pike Williams, 100, of 155 Edwards St., died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at the home of her son, Calvin Williams.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Staley Baptist Church, where she was the oldest member, with the Rev. John Lindsay officiating. Burial will be in Staley Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Vernon R. Williams and a homemaker.

Surviving are son, J. Calvin Williams of Staley; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of the son, 1185 Zion Church Road, Staley.

Paul O. Alston
SILER CITY - Paul O. Alston, 75, of 1083 Old U.S. 421, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Farrar Funeral Home, Siler City.

The family will be at home of Mary Alston, 405 E. Fourth St.

Jennifer M. Rocchi
DENTON - Jennifer Marie Rocchi, 17, of 1865 Hill Road, Lexington, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, from injuries received in an automobile accident.

There will be no public funeral service.

She was a native of Raleigh County, W.Va., a junior at South Davidson High School, was employed with McDonald's in Thomasville and had attended Gospel Light Baptist Church in Winston-Salem.

Surviving are father, Richard Dean Rocchi of Trinity; mother, Laverne Marie Ellison of the home; brother, Steven Rocchi of the home; sisters, Britanny Rocchi and Morgan Rocchi, both of the home; grandparents, Vern and Henrietta Ellison of Pineville, W.Va.; great-grandfather, Noah Ellison of Pineville, W.Va.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

Patricia M. Ryan
CARTHAGE - Patricia Maiorana Ryan, 60, of 114 Boone Drive, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at her home.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, with the Rev. Brady Stephens officiating.

She was a native of Baltimore, Md., and had worked in food service.

Surviving are sons, Stanley L. Ryan Jr. of Eagle Springs, Anthony "Tony" Ryan of Biscoe; daughter, Nancy L. Ryan of Mt. Gilead; brother, Anthony "Tony" Maiorana of Seminole, Fla.; sisters, Carita French of California, Md., Susan "Cookie" Rudolf of Maryland, Helena Maiorana of Seminole, Fla., Jean Overby of Treasure Island, Fla.; three grandchildren.

The family will be at the home.

Memorial service for Searl S. "Pete" Stevens Sr. and Hazel M. Stevens will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Oaklawn Cemetery in Asheboro, with the Rev. C.L. King Jr. officiating.

Surviving are son, Searl S. Stevens Jr. of Rainier, Ore.; four grandchildren; one great-grandson.

Stevens, formerly of Asheboro, died Aug. 12, 1997. Mrs. Stevens, also formerly of Asheboro, died June 16, 1998.

Beatrice L. Koch
Beatrice Althea Lewis Koch, 69, of 3465 Fairview Farm Road, Asheboro, died Friday, April 28, 2000, at Asheboro Health and Rehabilitation.

Memorial service will be 8 p.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro.

She was a native of Lehigh Valley, Pa., and was of the Protestant faith.

Surviving are daughter, Renee Epright of Asheboro; sisters, Edna Prutzman and Senia Garris, both of Allentown, Pa., Lucy Finken of Easton, Pa.; brother, Charles Lewis of Allentown, Pa.; two grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Nannie H. Hilliard
RANDLEMAN - Nannie Hancock Hilliard, 90, of 4526 Hilliard Lane, died Friday, April 28, 2000, at her home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Kenneth Reaves and the Rev. Fred Reece officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Chatham County, the widow of D.B. Hilliard, was the church treasurer and in the church choir, was a gospel singer and worked for Hilliard Lumber Company.

Surviving are sons, Cecil Hilliard of Randleman, D.B. Hilliard Jr. of Kernersville; daughter, Jennette H. Nicholson of Independence, Va.; sisters, Clair Wilkie of Goldston, Olline Kelley of Sanford, Evelyn Bean of Randleman; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Guilford County, the widow of Alvin Staley, a homemaker and a member of First Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are daughter, Wanda Wesley of High Point; son, Billy R. Staley of Jamestown; brother, Clarence Fields of Greensboro; sister, Ruth Loflin of Sophia; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Chatham County and former project director of the Orange Chatham Comprehensive Health Services.

She was a graduate of Rex Hospital School of Nursing, a former operating room nurse at Lower Bucks Hospital, and an I.C.U. nurse at Montgomery Memorial Hospital.

Surviving are husband, Dr. Charles F. Scarborough Jr. of Star; mother, Lola Yarborough Hogan of Troy; son, William Christopher Janieri of Albemarle; sisters, Doris H. Richardson of Mt. Gilead, Carolyn H. Clark of Troy; brothers, William Hogan of Troy, Ralph Hogan of Lake Norman, Harold Hogan of Candor; stepdaughter, Betsy Hicks of Cary.
