SILER CITY - Estelle Lineberry Hackney, 80, of 717 E. Raleigh St., died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Jim Wall officiating. Burial will be in Loves Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County, the widow of Charlie C. Hackney, a member of the Fidells Sunday School Class, the Joy in the Morning Club and the Barrow Mission Group. She was a messenger to Sandy Creek Association, a former member of the church history room, co-owner/operator of Hackney Insurance Agency, Siler City, and a member of Business and Professional Women's Club and Dig and Dream Garden Club.

Surviving are daughters, Ann Hackney and Sara H. Williams, both of Greensboro, Martha H. Campbell of Fairfax, Va.; brothers, Joseph L. Lineberry of Lumberton, Marvin Lineberry of Liberty; sisters, Earline McMasters of Liberty, Lucy Lineberry of Greensboro; two grandsons.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Lowell B. Parkerson Jr.
TROY - Lowell Benjamin "Troy" Parkerson Jr., 60, of 2482 Ophir Road, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Wesleyan Church, with the Rev. Douglas W. Beadle officiating. Burial will be in Stanly Garden of Memories, Albemarle.

He was a native of Sanford, Fla., a retired first lieutenant after 20 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and a Vietnam veteran, and was a retired truck driver for Carolina Pacific Trucking Company, High Point.

Surviving are wife, Frances Deese Parkerson of the home; sons, Michael Parkerson of 29 Palms, Calif., Steve Parkerson of Jacksonville, Fla., Lowell B. Parkerson III, Tony Parkerson, both of Alma, Ga.; daughters, Janice Sanders of Troy, Beverly Mixon of Brunswick, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

Thurman A. Davis
ROBBINS - Thurman Allen "Lucky" Davis, 76, of 548 Brown's Mill Road, died Monday, June 19, 2000, in High Point Regional Hospital.

Memorial service will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, with the Rev. Ernest Ferrell officiating.

He was a native of Mississippi, the widower of Marie Brown Davis, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, and was retired from the Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Company.

Surviving are granddaughter, Rhonda Wheaton of the home; stepdaughters, Barbara Lawhon of Hampton, Va., Billie Joyce Hill of Southern Pines; stepson, Robert "Sonny" Moore of Fairmont; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

Rev. Floyd W. Owens
LADY LAKE, Fla. - Rev. Floyd Walter Owens, 89, of Lady Lake, Fla., died Monday, June 19, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Martin Wambach and the Rev. Richard Hill officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Asheboro.

He was a native of Asheboro, retired from Dixie Furniture Company, had pastored several Bible Missionary Churches, and pioneered the Lady Lake Wesleyan Methodist Church in Lady Lake, Fla. He did evangelistic work and street meetings, and was a World War II veteran.

Surviving are wife, Mary Payne Owens of the home; stepson, Ernie Wellman of Fruitland Park, Fla.; sisters, Lucille Bridges and Evelyn Vetovich, both of Asheboro; three grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service.

Edna R. Spinks
ASHEBORO - Edna Reeder Spinks, 80, formerly of Old Liberty Road, Asheboro, died Thursday, June 22, 2000, in Seagrove at the home of her niece, Peggy Jordan.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Grady Blakely, the Rev. Neil C. Poole and the Rev. Mike Lambe officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Jeff Spinks and a member of Union Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving are sisters, Stella Caudill and Lillie Baldwin, both of Asheboro, Farrie Brown of Seagrove; sister, Elizabeth Green of Seagrove; brothers, Grady Reeder of Asheboro, W.D. Reeder Jr. of Charlotte.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of Peggy Jordan, 345 Jordan Road, Seagrove.

Muriel B. Weeks
ASHEBORO - Muriel Ann Briggs Weeks, 61, of 2016 Old N.C. 49, Asheboro, died Thursday June 22, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at New Union United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jean Nall officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, co-owner/operator of The Yogurt Station and attended New Union United Methodist Church.

Surviving are husband, Leamon Weeks; daughter, Ann W. Needham of Asheboro; sons, Benny Weeks of Denton, Norman Weeks of Trinity, John Paul Weeks of Albany, N.Y.; brothers, William Briggs of Darlington, S.C., Sammy Briggs of Bladenboro; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

Gilbert S. Bennett
RANDLEMAN - Gilbert Sidney Bennett, 86, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Asheboro Health and Rehabilitation.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Floral Garden Park Cemetery, High Point, with the Rev. Kenneth Reaves officiating.

He was a native of Surry County, retired employee of Laughlin Hosiery Mill in Randleman and a member of First Baptist Church in Randleman.

Surviving are wife, Esther Curry Bennett of Randleman; stepdaughters, Peggy Hodge of Baltimore, Md., Ruth Cashwell of Greensboro; stepson, Tommy Spillman of Randleman; sister, Marie Hicks of High Point; eight grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-8:30 p.m. Friday.

RANDLEMAN - John Evans, 86, formerly of New Salem Road, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Asheboro Health and Rehabilitation.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Lois M. Lambert
PLEASANT GARDEN - Lois Montgomery Lambert, 76, of 4806 Begonia Road, died Thursday , June 22, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Aaron Moss and Matt Nealy officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Nottoway County, Virginia, the widow of Wallace Lambert, a retired secretary, and was a volunteer in the Mobile Meals program in the Pleasant Garden community.

Surviving are daughter, Jean L. Turner of Greensboro; son, Lane Lambert of Pleasant Garden; sisters, Doris Neece of Greensboro, Mabel Earp of Florida, Rosalee Stubblefield of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Mary Ruth Walton of Pleasant Garden; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 6-8 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

Frank W. Davis
SILER CITY - Frank Winfred Davis, 85, of 387 Glosson Road, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Loves Creek Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Roy Helms and the Rev. Eddie Mishoe officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, the widower of Ethel H. Davis, a deacon, past Sunday School superintendent, a member of the Adult Men's Sunday School class, and a former trustee at his church, and was retired from Townsend after more than 50 years in the poultry industry.

Surviving are daughter, Doris D. Beck of Siler City; son, John C. Davis of Phenix City, Ala.; sisters, Maxine Langley of Staley, Evangeline Stinson of Goldston, Beatrice McPherson of Siler City; brothers, Atlas Davis, Jack Davis and Clyde Davis, all of Siler City; five grandchildren; four great- grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of the daughter, 398 Glosson Road, Siler City.

Annie A. Seltz
MT. GILEAD - Annie Belle Allen Seltz, 99, formerly of 279 Maske Road, died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at the Center of Living, 416 Vision Drive, Asheboro.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sharon Cemetery, Mt. Gilead, with the Rev. Curtis Goforth officiating.

She was a native of Stanly County, the widow of Charles C. Seltz, a retired employee of CP&L who managed the workers dormitory at the Hydro Plant, and was a retired employee of Sox, Inc. of Mt. Gilead.

Surviving are daughter, Audrey S. Armfield of Asheboro; sister, Virginia Allen Corbin of Morristown, Ind.; one grandson.

The family will be at McKeithan Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, prior to the service.

CANDOR - Evelyn Bruton, 80, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Autumn Care, Biscoe.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Surviving are daughter, Rosalyn Capel Spencer of Candor; sisters, Addie Bruton of Candor, Julia Brown of Utica, N.Y.; brother, Calvin Bruton of Candor; one granddaughter.

The family will be at R.C. Bostic Funeral Service, Candor, 7-8 p.m. Friday.

Lynda M. Davis
ASHEBORO - Lynda Joyce Martin Davis, of 4244 Thornburg Farm Trail, Asheboro, died Friday, June 23, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Ron Chaney officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Union United Church of Christ Cemetery.

She was a native of Stokes County, a homemaker and an antique dealer. She was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with an master's degree, worked on her Ph.D. at Temple University and was a member of Minnies Chapel Methodist Church in Lawsonville.

Surviving are husband, Eddie W. Davis of the home; sons, Andrew Wyatt Davis and Nathan Stuart Davis, both of the home, Martin Edward Davis of Asheboro, Jonathan Murphy Davis of Raleigh; sister, Rebecca Worthington of Lawsonville; brothers, Benny Martin of Raleigh, Bobby Martin and David Martin, both of Lawsonville, John Martin of Winston-Salem; one granddaughter.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

Wray Poole
ASHEBORO - Joseph Wray Poole, 90, formerly of 2220 Old County Farm Road, Sophia, died Friday, June 23, 2000, at his daughter's home.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Grayson Spencer officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery, High Point.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired from Schoonbeck Furniture and was a farmer.

Surviving are daughter, Judy Poole Luck of Asheboro; son, Joseph Poole Jr. of Fishers, Ind.; brother, Gordon Poole of Asheboro; two grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home, 1-2 p.m. Sunday.

GULF - Ernest Martin Cole, 77, of 217 Fayetteville Road, died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Antioch Baptist Church, Goldston, where he was a member, with the Rev. Ken Harris officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, the widower of Daisy Jordan Cole and was retired from Chatham Brick.

Surviving are son, Michael Cole of Siler City; daughters, Kathy C. Keye of Sanford, Ann C. Shreve of Pleasant Garden; brother, Robert Cole of Gulf; sister, Francis Spivey of Sanford; five grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

BANNER ELK - Paul Warren Barbee, 63, of 126 Robert Cook Lane, died Friday, June 23, 2000, at Cannon Memorial Hospital, Linville.

He was a native of Asheboro and a graduate of Asheboro High School and Davidson College.

Surviving are wife, Rachel Love Barbee of the home; daughters, Leigh Ann Powers of Hampton, Va., Dee Barbee of Greenville; stepdaughter, Leigh Ann Groome of Atlanta, Ga.; stepson, Robert Groome of Topango, Calif.; sister, Phyllis Barbee Lane of Asheboro; five grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home of Gilbert and Phyllis Lane, 726 William Ave., Asheboro.

SOPHIA - John Aaron Swinson, 19, of 3452 Old Flint Hill Road, died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, with the Rev. Gary Hill officiating. Burial will be in the Trinity Cemetery.

He was a native of Lexington and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Jeannine F. Morris and Walter Morris of the home.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at South Plainfield Friends Meeting, Sophia, with the Rev. Ivey Ray Whittington officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, retired from Salem Tie Manufacturing in Randleman and was a member of New Testament Baptist Church of Randleman.

Surviving are daughters, Hazel Bates and Katherine McDonald, both of Asheboro, Betty Lou Hilliard and Barbara Wood, both of Randleman; son, Jesse M. Allred of Franklinville; stepson, Floyd Yow of the home; stepdaughters, lla Mae Thompson of Asheboro, Betty Fritts of Lexington; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home of Betty Lou Hilliard, 237 New Salem Road, Randleman.

FRANKLINVILLE - Gracie Bunting, infant daughter of Mark and April Bunting of 3562 Tom Brown Road, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Memorial service will be 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Pastor Eric Allred officiating.

Surviving in addition to the parents are sister, Sarah Bunting of the home; grandparents, Scott and Cathy Cheek of Climax, Barry and Pansy Harrington of Asheboro; great-grandparents, Clara Bunting of Asheboro, Joe and Doris Ridgway of Climax.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Ruth L. Laughlin
ASHEBORO - Ruth Alice Lassiter Laughlin, 78, formerly of 6169 Lassiter Mill Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Strieby Congregational United Church of Christ, where she was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, a member of the Gladiola Garden Club, the O.E.S. Rising Star Chapter No. 10 and a retired teacher's assistant in the Asheboro City Schools.

Surviving are daughter, Vivian Timmons of Asheboro; son, Jerry Laughlin of Charlotte; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at C.C. Hodges Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-8 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of the daughter, 880 Landsdown Road, Asheboro.
