TROY - Lucille Russell Kearns, 73, of 177 Alexander Road, died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Zion United Methodist Church, Mt. Gilead, where she was a member, with the Rev. James Scales and the Rev. Jim Harris officiating. Entombment will be in Stanly Gardens of Memory Mausoleum.

She was a native of Stanly County and a retired saleswoman with ViJane Clothing Apparel.

Surviving are husband, Harold "Coot" Kearns of the home; son, James Harold Kearns of Clemmons; sister, Helen R. Bradley of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Stanly Funeral Home, Albemarle, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Clarence L. McNeill
EAGLE SPRINGS - Clarence Lee McNeill, 72, of 14012 N.C. 24/27, died Saturday, June 24, 2000 at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pleasant View Friends Church, with the Rev. Don Lewallen and the Rev. Bennie Maness officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, the widower of Janie Spivey McNeill and was a retired employee of Milliken Co.

Surviving are daughters, Juanita M. Bruce of Ether, Sharon M. Boone of Eagle Springs; sons, Sonny McNeill of Gray Court, S.C., Robert McNeill of the home, Wayne McNeill of Sanford; sisters, Dora M. Kennedy, Nettie M. Reynolds, Maxine M. Ritter and Margie M. Hussey, all of Robbins, Rillie M. Turner of Star, Lorraine M. Hussey of Ramseur, Dorothy M. Garner of Burlington; brothers, Garvin McNeill of Biscoe, Richard McNeill of Vass, Paul McNeill of Bennett, Roy McNeill of Robbins; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Dr. Hugh Fitzpatrick
ASHEBORO - Dr. Hugh Fitzpatrick, 78, of 117 S. Main St., Asheboro, died Monday, June 26, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. W. Russell Ward Jr. officiating.

He was a native of Richmond, Va., a graduate of Hampton-Sidney College and The Medical College of Virginia in Richmond and operated a private practice in Asheboro for 20 years. He was an Emergency Room physician at High Point Regional Hospital and continued as an ER physician serving Wilkes Regional Medical Center until his retirement. He was an Elder and deacon at his church and formerly served on the Hospice of Randolph and Salvation Army Boards of Directors.

Surviving are wife, Rachel Lewis Fitzpatrick of Asheboro; sons, Hugh E. Fitzpatrick of Raleigh, Stuart L. Fitzpatrick of Greensboro; daughters, Julia F. Eliades of Richmond, Va., Anne F. Chadwick of Greenville; brothers, James Fitzpatrick of Princeton, N.J., Charles Fitzpatrick of Elon College; sister, Jean Andrews of Port Washington, N.Y.; seven grandchildren.

Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, is in charge of the arrangements.

ASHEBORO - Roy Scott Jr., 61, of 1386 Foxburrow Road, Asheboro, died Monday, June 26, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Guilford Memorial Park, with the Rev. Larry Stines officiating.

He was a native of Pitt County, a U.S. Air Force veteran and was formerly employed with Burlington Industries.

Surviving are wife, Sharon McKiernan Scott; daughters, Darlene Scott of Asheboro, Crystal Brewer of Hohenwald, Tenn.; sisters, Janice Buck of Ayden, Betty Cherry of Greenville; brothers, Bobby Scott of Ayden, Horace Scott of Greenville, Jimmy Scott of Virginia; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - Thomas Franklin Smith, 84, of 316 Hawthorne Drive, Asheboro, died Sunday, June 25, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oakhurst Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Dr. Richard Crider officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Moore County and the retired former owner of Smith's Auto Glass Shop.

Surviving are wife, Sudie Morgan Smith of the home; daughters, Joyce S. King of Asheboro, Jane S. Carroll of Cary; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Joyce King, 1048 Lindale Drive, Asheboro.

DENTON - Hazel Smyth Gardner, 62, of North Babylon, N.Y., died Friday, June 23, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in New York.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Denton Town Cemetery, Denton, with the Rev. Vern Peterson officiating.

She was a homemaker, graduate of Denton High School, a former president and a member of the North Babylon Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Suffolk County Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the New York State Women's Parade and Drill Team Officials and of the Parent Teacher Association of North Babylon.

Surviving are husband, John Gardner of North Babylon, N.Y.; sons, Lawrence Gardner of Houston, Texas, Michael Gardner of North Babylon, N.Y.; brothers, Bill Smyth of Arlington, Mass., Bob Smyth of Punta Gorda, Fla.; four grandchildren.

CARTHAGE - Albert C. Thompson, 73 of 179 Hardy Road, died Monday, June 26, 2000, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Victory Community Baptist Church, with the Rev. Max Gilmore officiating. Burial will be in Summer Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a retired supervisor with the N.C. Department of Transportation.

Surviving are wife, Nancy F. Thompson; daughter, Beth Richardson of Carthage; sister, Juanita Thompson of Carthage; brothers, Ralph Thompson and Hubert Thompson, both of Carthage, W.M. Thompson of Jackson Springs; one grandson.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Jack Luck
ASHEBORO - Joseph Jackson Luck, 73, of 230 E. Presnell St., Asheboro, died Sunday, June 25, 2000, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Oaklawn Cemetery, with Dr. Ron Hamilton officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County and a retired mechanic.

Surviving are sons, Donald Luck of Casper, Wyo., Gregory Luck of Lenoir, Paul Lucas and William Luck, both of Asheboro, Joey Lucas of Anchorage, Alaska.; sister, Betty Handy of Lexington; brother, Mickey Luck of Stanton, Ga.; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Hal C. York Sr.
ASHEBORO - Hal Cly York Sr., 92, of 319 Stowe Ave., Asheboro, died Monday, June 26, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Randolph Memorial Park, with the Rev. Henry R. Sink officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County and was retired from Trailways Bus Company after 48 years.

Surviving are wife, Alta Caveness York; daughter, Peggy Sholar of Asheboro; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

Eddie W. Cain Jr.
LIBERTY - Eddie Wesley Cain Jr., 76, of 526 Edgewood Drive, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, where he was a member. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

He was a member of the Wesley Bible Class at his church, a World War II U.S. Army veteran where he received the Bronze Star, was a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans and was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a federal food inspector.

Surviving are wife, Mary Taylor Cain of the home; son, Eddie Wesley Cain III of Siler City; daughter, Shiela Maria Benz of Canton, Ga.; brother, David Neil Cain of Roseboro; sisters, Ellen Lancaster of Roseboro, Dorothy Brown of Fort Myers, Fla.; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Magdalene W. Buchanan
WINSTON-SALEM - Magdalene Whitmore Buchanan, 81, of 255 Thomas School Road, died Monday, June 26, 2000 at Forsyth Medical Center.

Funeral service will be Saturday at Providence Baptist Church in Woodland, Ala. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are son, Terry Buchanan of Winston-Salem; sisters, Rachel Bethea of Oplika, Ala., Irene Nichols of Columbus, Ga., Liz Nixs of Lagrange, Ga., Loyce Parker of Whitesburg, Ga.; brothers, Alford Whitmore of Lagrange, Ga., Sherman Whitmore of Woodland, Ala.; one grandson; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, and also at Rainwater-West Funeral Home, Bowdon, Ga., 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Doris L. Hinshaw
SILER CITY - Doris Long Hinshaw, 64, of 1601 Tom Stevens Road, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Plainfield Friends Meeting, where she was a member, with Pat and Ken Thames, and Terry Kersey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Kenneth Daniel Hinshaw and a homemaker.

Surviving are son, Christopher Hinshaw of Siler City; brother, Larry Long of Asheboro; sister, Thelma Ragan of Burlington.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Patricia K. Guyton
CASTLE HAYNE - Patricia Kennedy Guyton, 60, of 1918 Oakley Loop Road, died Sunday, June 25, 2000, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church, with Dr. Marc Drake and the Rev. James E. Everette III officiating. Burial will be in Oleander Memorial Gardens.

She was a native of Harrells and was formerly of Asheboro.

Surviving are husband, Kenneth D. Guyton of the home; son, Kenneth C. Guyton of West Jefferson; daughters, Pamela A. Guyton of Wilmington, Deborah C. Guyton Foust of Graham, Jennifer L. Guyton of the home; sisters, Beulah Johnson Kennedy of Wilmington, Rowena Porter of Reidsville; Elma Kennedy Porter of Wilmington, who raised Mrs. Guyton; eight grandchildren.

Andrews Mortuary, Wilmington, is in charge of the arrangements.

Ora L. Cribb
SALISBURY - Ora Lambert Cribb, 93, of 1735 Kluttz Road, died Monday, June 26, 2000, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at East Rockingham Congregational Holiness Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Benoist and the Rev. Gerald Goins officiating. Burial will be in Northam Cemetery.

She was a native of Georgetown County, S.C. and a retired textile employee.

Surviving are sons, Robert Lee "Buddy" Cribb of Shelby, Robert P. "Sonny" Cribb of Asheboro, Wesley Cribb of Norwood; daughters, Inez McKnight and Mary Robertson, both of Greensboro, Rosa Lee Jones and Lena Mae Pope, both of Rockingham, Virginia Jones and Elizabeth "Libby" Stewart, both of Hamlet, Patsy Kluttz of Salisbury; sisters, Lina Altman of Mullins, S.C., Mollie Williams of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; 38 grandchildren; 76 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Marks Funeral Home, Rockingham, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

GLENDALE, Calif. - Bobbie Sue Connell Phillips, 62, of 535 W. Broadway #207, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at Glendale Aventist Medical Center, Glendale, Calif.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, with the Rev. James Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in Ether United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was the widow of Jimmy Carroll Phillips.

Vernon Hodge
RANDLEMAN - Vernon Hodge, 78, of 136 Idlewild Drive, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, with the Rev. Ron Hamilton and Howard Dixon officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County and retired from Burlington Industries in Asheboro.

Surviving are daughters, Ruth Kenyon of Asheboro, Linda Scott of Seagrove; brother, Clifford Hodge of Baltimore, Md.; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren.

Ira L. Walls
SOPHIA - Ira Lee "Bud" Walls, 83, of 3245 Beckerdite Road, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at Westwood Health & Rehabilitation, Archdale.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro.

He was a native of Randolph County and was retired from Wagoner Woodcraft.

Surviving are wife, Oda A. Walls of Archdale; daughters, Fay Deen Reitzel of Archdale, Carroll W. Gardner of Climax, Kathryn W. Bryant of Atlanta, Ga.; son, Kenith Walls of Sophia; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 10-11 a.m. Friday.

Rev. W. Austin Frye
TRINITY - The Rev. W. Austin "Bud" Frye, 80, of 5261 Frye St., died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Fairview United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bobby Swaim and the Rev. David Hunt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, was employed by Burlington Industries for 33 years and was retired from Perpetual Savings & Loan. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, the pastor of Mt. View Independent Methodist Church in Asheboro for 37 years, a licensed Wesleyan minister and a former member of the Archdale Planning and Zoning Board.

Surviving are wife, Rosa Lee Crouse Frye of the home; son: Darrell Frye of Archdale; daughters, Sylvia Hill of High Point, Janet Marley of Archdale; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, 6:30-9 p.m. Thursday.

Kate M. Hendren
CANDOR - Kate McKenzie Hendren, 93, of Autumn Care Nursing Center, formerly of Candor, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000 at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home, Candor, with the Rev. William Mitchell, the Rev. William Turnmire and the Rev. Russ Brown officiating. Burial will be in Candor Cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County and the widow of Francis L. Hendren. She was a member of Candor United Methodist Church, where she had been a Sunday School teacher, assistant treasurer, a member of the Fitzgerald Sunday School Class and the UMW, and she was retired from C.L. Burkhead Store in Candor as a bookkeeper.

Surviving are son, James L. Hendren of Troy; daughter, Helen H. Stewart of Columbia, S.C.; brother, Edward McKenzie of Eagle Springs; sisters, Janie McCaskill of Biscoe, Almeda Luther of Candor, Margaret McKenzie of Orlando, Fla.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the service, other times at the home of James and Toni Hendren, 562 Warner Road, Troy.

Myron R. Lloyd
TROY - Myron Ray Lloyd, 79, of 543 Allen St., died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Clyde Comer officiating.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are daughters, Amy G. Lloyd of Clinton, S.C., Patty Weeks of Raleigh; sister, Selma Heath of Greensboro; brother, Ernest Lloyd of Sanford, John F. Lloyd of Tigard, Ore.; three grandchildren; one great-grandson.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Thursday.
