TROY - James Leach McMillan, 82, of 1071 Lillys Bridge Road, Mt. Gilead, died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at Autumn Care of Biscoe.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Forks of Little River Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Lawrence Stewart and the Rev. Irvin Thompson officiating.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a member of Forks of Little River Church and a retired carpenter.

Surviving are brother, Lowell McMillan of Liberty; sister, Mary Faust of Gunnison, Colo.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, immediately before the service.

Eunice S. Davis
EAGLE SPRINGS - Eunice Sexton Davis, 52, of 7492 N.C. 705, died Saturday, July 8, 2000, in a Sevierville, Tenn. hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rock Hill Friends Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Ron Powell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, attended Montgomery Community College, was a teacher's assistant at Robbins Elementary and a member of the NCATA.

Surviving are husband, Charles C. Davis of the home; daughter, Dana Jordan of Robbins; mother, Ella Sexton of Pinehurst; brother, Ronnie Sexton of Concord; sisters, Pat Tedder of Wilmington, Jeanette Deese of Morehead City; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Steven A. Beasley
CHARLOTTE - Steven Austin Beasley, 53, of 1406 Croker Ave., died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at Carolina Medical Center, Charlotte.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Eugene Akins officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County, employed with Telecommunications & Industrial Consulting in Fort Mill, S.C. and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of Forest Park Baptist Church in Asheboro and served as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and the Red Cross.

Surviving are father, Austin Beasley Jr. of Asheboro; brothers, Cleveland Allen Beasley, Michael G. Beasley and Ronald Chase Beasley, all of Asheboro, Donald Charles Beasley of High Point.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Michael Beasley, 301 E. Central Ave., Asheboro.

Helen M. Dunn
LIBERTY - Helen Miller Dunn, 76, of 313 W. Starmount Ave., died Sunday, July 9, 2000, in Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Fairview Cemetery, with the Rev. Jimmy Hill officiating.

She was a native of Liberty and a former employee of Siler City Manufacturing Co.

Surviving are husband, Clarence A. Dunn of the home; son, Barry Dunn of Siler City; foster daughter, Rhonda Smith Kaiser of Statesville; one stepgranddaughter; two stepgreat-grandchildren; one foster grandchild.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Pattie Hill-Hollingsworth
RAEFORD - Pattie Frances Hill-Hollingsworth, 71, of 473 Oakdale Gin Road, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000.

Funeral service was 3 p.m. Saturday at Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Raeford, where she was a member. Burial was in Highland Biblical Gardens.

She was a native of Montgomery County, a 1954 graduate of St. Phillips Medical College, Richmond, Va., where she received her Registered Nurse's degree, and was a retired RN.

Surviving are sons, George Washington Hollingsworth Jr. of Raeford, Conrad Caldwell Hollingsworth of Culpepper, Va.; daughter, Beverly Hollingsworth-Alleyne of Raeford; brother, Harvey Hill of Mt. Gilead; sister, Brownie McNeill of Sanford; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.

Harris Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, was in charge of the arrangements.

Bruce Banks
ASHEBORO - Bruce Banks, 82, of 914 Greencastle Road, Asheboro, died Monday, July 10, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Letcher Funeral Home, Whitesburg, Ky. Burial will be in Banks Cemetery, Premium, Ky.

He was a native of Premium, Ky., a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a retired employee of the Kentucky Power Co.

Surviving are wife, Pauline Banks; daughters, Patsy Chambers of Asheboro, Sandra Powers of Atlanta. Ga; one grandchild.

The family was at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Lynn H. York
ASHEBORO - Lynn Hampton York, 46, of 812 Iron Mountain View Road, Asheboro, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel, Ramseur, with the Rev. Mary Hillard officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Christian Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County.

Surviving are son, Joshua York of Asheboro; daughter, Sarah York of Franklinville; mother, Mary D. York of Asheboro; brothers, Craig York and Tony York, both of Asheboro; sister, Louise York of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of his mother, 798 Iron Mountain View Road, Asheboro.

Blanche Fields
PLEASANT GARDEN - Blanche Fields, 89, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Climax, where she was a member, with the Rev. Mark Andrews, the Rev. Chuch Rowland and the Rev. Kathy Barba officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Pleasant Garden, a 1929 graduate of Pleasant Garden High School, a Sunday School teacher and choir member at her church, Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Climax, and was a member of the United Methodist Women's Wesleyan Group.

Surviving is brother, Paige Fields.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Michael Hinshaw, 5601 N.C. 22, Pleasant Garden.

Eugenia B. Meggs
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Eugenia B. "Gennah" Meggs, 46, died Monday, July 10, 2000, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at McMillan-Small Funeral Home, Myrtle Beach, S.C., with Dr. Wayne Brown officiating.

She was a native of Moore County, a former employee with WWXM 97.1 and WYNA Cool 104.9 radio stations in Myrtle Beach and was a model and singer.

Surviving are mother and step-father, Jane Garner Maness and William Robert Maness of Carthage; brother, Roger Dean Maness of Carthage; sisters, Christine Watson of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Audrey Smart of Bennett, Rita Garner of Carthage, Benita Chriscoe of Asheboro.

Jesse M. Rollins
ASHEBORO - Jesse Michael Rollins, infant son of Kevin and Jeanette Rollins of 2075 Cedar Road, Asheboro, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at Brenner's Children's Hospital at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Old Union United Methodist Church Cemetery, Sophia, with the Rev. Lanny Lancaster officiating.

Surviving in addition to the parents are sister, Abigail Bullins of the home; grandparents, J.R and Dottie Rollins of Sophia, Bruce Dunn of Climax, Margaret Milton of Asheboro; great-grandmother, Pauline Ivester of Randleman.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

M. Sherman Latham
DENTON - M. Sherman Latham, 85, of Farmer Road, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Gravel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Claudie Harrison and the Rev. Jody Harrison officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County, a self-employed logger and farmer and was a member of Gravel Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving is sister, Nina Varner of Denton.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday.

Henry R. McDuffie
BISCOE - Henry Roy McDuffie, 70, of 1016 McDuffie Road, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Friday at Big Oak Christian Church, with the Rev. Robert Dennis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, retired from Springs Inc., Aileen Plant, and he was a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are sisters, Pauline M. Jackson and Maxine M. McLean, both of Biscoe, Mozelle M. Smith and Ruth M. Smith, both of Candor.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Katie D. Edwards
FOUR OAKS - Katie D. Edwards, 85, of 2679-A Selah Church Road, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, in Four Oaks.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at West & Dunn Funeral Home, Newton Grove, with the Rev. Williard Hardison officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Surviving are husband, David P. Edwards; daughter, Deborah Honeycutt of Beaufort; sons, Tony Edwards and Roland Edwards, both of Four Oaks, David L. Edwards of Asheboro; sister, Essie Pulliam of Morehead City; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Betsy D. Hasty
CONWAY, S.C. - Betsy Dean Hasty, 56, of University Forest Drive, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of Asheboro and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are sons, Darrell Manuel of Asheboro, Donald Manuel of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; daughters, Donna Christmas and Theresa Kieffer, both of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Melba Hasty of Conway, S.C.; brother, Bobby Smith of Asheboro; sister, Betty Duncan of Hickory; eight grandchildren.

The family will be at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway, S.C. 7-9 p.m. Thursday, and at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Fleacy S. Hill
ASHEBORO - Fleacy M. Strickland Hill, 86, of 532 Cross St., Asheboro, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Church of God of Prophecy, with Bishop Barney Trogdon officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

The family will be at Gailes Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-8 p.m. Saturday.

Bessie V. Sluss
ASHEBORO - Bessie Virginia Sluss, 92, of Asheboro, formerly of Mudfork, Va., died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, in Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Brown's Chapel United Methodist Church, Mudfork, Va., where she was a member, with the Rev. Ted Anders officiating. Burial will be in the Sluss Cemetery at Mudfork, Va.

She was a native of Tazewell County, Va. and the widow of Crockett Pyott Sluss.

Surviving are sons, William Sluss, Samuel Sluss, both of Asheboro; daughter, Symantha Williams of Asheboro; sister, Irene Hight of Trenton, Ga.; six grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home, Tazewell, Va., 6-9 p.m. Friday.

Clyde P. Trotter
ASHEBORO - Clyde Tina Poole Trotter, 96, of Cross Road Retirement Community, Asheboro, died Thursday, July 13, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Timothy K. Roberts and Chaplain Tim Pheagin officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Shepherd United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Joe Trotter, a member of West Chapel United Methodist Church and was retired from B.B. Walker Company.

Surviving are sons, Cecil Trotter and Ed Trotter, both of Asheboro, Earl Trotter of California; sisters, Bernice Maness and lone James, both of Asheboro; brother, D.C. Poole of Asheboro; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home of Cecil Trotter, 524 W. Wainman Ave., Asheboro.

JULIAN - Zeb Roy Garrett Sr., 96, formerly of 4824 Old Julian Road, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Shiloh United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Carroll Lupton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery

He was a native of Guilford County, the widower of Eva Brown Garrett and a retired employee of Dillard Paper Company.

Surviving are four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of daughter-in-law Rachel Garrett, 4821 Old Julian Road, Julian.

DENTON - Jesse Junior McDowell, 70, of 377 Bob Loflin Road, died Thursday, July 13, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Canaan United Methodist Church, with the Rev. James Cooper, the Rev. Clayton Stoneman and the Rev. Clarence Stoneman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, attended Denton Church of God and was retired from Councill Craftsmen.

Surviving are wife, Mary Kindley McDowell of the home; sons, Jesse Lee McDowell Sr. and Darrell McDowell, both of Denton, David McDowell of Thomasville; daughters, Nancy McDowell, Ann Ingle and Mae Echerd, all of Denton, Lillie Campbell of Ether, Jeanette Hedrick of Lexington; brother, Kenneth McDowell of Asheboro; sisters, Martha Ann Bundy and Mazie Owens, both of Asheboro; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren.

Josh Jordan
CANDOR - Josh Jordan, 84, of McCallum Road, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Candor United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bill Mitchell and the Rev. Dexter Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Candor Town Cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a member of Candor United Methodist Church and of Biscoe Lodge 437 AF&AM, he was a U.S. Army veteran and a pilot and a farmer.

Surviving are son, Michael J. Jordan of Tallahassee, Fla.; daughter, Becky Bell of Candor; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at Briggs Candor Funeral Home, Candor, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of Betty Jordan, 128 E. Parsons St. Candor.

She was a native of Asheboro and was of the Baptist faith.
