SILER CITY - Sammie Lou Fields Walters, 83, of 274 Lambert Chapel Road, died Thursday, March 19, 1998, at Chatham Hospital, Siler City.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Oakley Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Tim Howell and the Rev. M.E. Cunnup officiating. Burial will be in Sandy Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County, a homemaker and a member of the Sunday School class at her church.

Surviving are husband, George M. Walters; daughter, Bonnie W. Davis of Siler City; sons, Wayne Walters of Bonlee, Ed Walters of Bear Creek, Bennie Walters, Cecil Walters, Bill Walters, all of Siler City; brothers, James Coy Fields, Grady B. Fields, both of Siler City; sisters, Otis Johnson of Siler City, Allene F. Brown of Bear Creek, Margie Hilliard, Elma Lee Hilliard, Maxine Braswell, all of Greensboro; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of Bennie Walters, 206 Lambert Chapel Road, Siler City.

Nancy D. Irwin

SILER CITY - Nancy Riddle Duncan Irwin, 78, of Pine Glade Apartments, died Thursday, March 19, 1998, at Chatham Hospital, Siler City.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, with the Rev. David Mashburn officiating. Burial will be in Rocky River Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County, retired owner/operator of the Laundriette, a member of South Fork Friends Meeting and attended Community Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Sunday School class.

Surviving are son, Tommy Duncan of Siler City; sister, Helen R. Hilliard of Goldston; one granddaughter.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of the son, 103 S. Cedar Ave., Siler City.

Trevor E. Weast

SALISBURY - Trevor Eugene Weast, infant son of Tricia McCora Weast and Todd Eugene Weast of 1032 Roundknob Ave., died Wednesday, March 18, 1998, at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, with the Rev. Larry Twitty officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park.

He was a native of Rowan County.

Surviving in addition to the parents are brother, Trenton Ray Weast of the home; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Russell of China Grove, Mr. and Mrs. Harry McCora Jr. of Salisbury, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Weast of Kannapolis; great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Alan E. DeRatt Sr. of Asheboro, Mr. and Mrs. Harry McCora Sr. of Salisbury; great-great-grandmother, Mrs. P.W. McCora of Salisbury.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of Kenneth and Linda Russell, 1940 China Grove.

Cleo M. Barnard
Cleo Maness Dickens Barnard, 83, of 1751 First St., Asheboro, died Friday, March 20, 1998, at Brian Center.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Oaklawn Cemetery with the Rev. Justus McKeel officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County, a homemaker, retired from Bossong Hosiery, a member of First Baptist Church of Ramseur and the Louise Brady Sunday School Class, and was the widow of William Dickens and Roy Barnard.

Surviving are sister, Rosalee Maness Bowman of Browns Summit.

Jim Dorsett

James Phillip "Jim" Dorsett, 71, of 524 Dellwood Ave., Asheboro, died Thursday, March 19, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Oaklawn Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Jordan and Rev. Tim Shoaf officiating.

He was a native of Asheboro, a member of First United Church and VFW Post 1159, a partner in Jim's Car Wash, retired from Vend-A-Matic after 37 years, and a Navy veteran of World War II.

Surviving are wife, Pete Dorsett; sons, Phil Dorsett and Lewis Dorsett, both of Archdale; sisters, Louise Talbert and Sue Phillips, both of Asheboro; five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 224 N. Fayetteville St., Asheboro, N.C. 27203 or to the National Parkinson's Foundation, 1501 NW Ninth Ave., Bob Hope Road, Miami, Fla. 33136.

CARTHAGE - Jesse "Jake" Briggs, 82, of 1941 Niagra-Carthage Road, died Saturday, March 21, 1998, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Monday at Union Presbyterian Church with the Rev. William A. Stewart Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy Air Corps and a retired farmer.

Surviving are wife, Florence Johnson Briggs; daughters, Phyllis Blue and Gayle Reynolds, both of Carthage; son, Donald R. Briggs of Vass; sisters, Viola Kirk of Aberdeen and Catherine Hearne of Carthage; brothers, Leon Briggs and Paul Briggs, both of Cameron, and L.H. Briggs of Seymour, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry-Prickett Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Gertrude K. Bunn

HIGH POINT - Gertrude Kidd Bunn, 88, died Thursday, March 19, 1998 at Guilford Health Center in Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Sechrest Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Emery and Rev. Randy Haithcock officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

She was a native of Guilford County, a former employee of Adam Millis Corp., retired from Amos Hosiery, a member of Hayworth Wesleyan Church and the widow of Marvin Hubert Bunn.

Surviving are son, Harold A. Bunn of Trinity; sisters, Bessie Kidd Overby and Rachael Robey, both of Westminister, Md.; two grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Carl J. Dodson

JULIAN - Carl J. Dodson, 69, of 7077 Arrington Road, died Saturday, March 21, 1998, at his residence.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Gilmore Memorial Park in Julian with the Rev. Melvin Whitaker officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County, a retired truck driver and mechanic, and a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Louise Garner Dodson of the home; son, Robert L. Dodson of Julian; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home in Liberty 7-9 p.m. Sunday and other times at the residence.

J.C. Jarrell

STAR - John "J.C." Jarrell, 73, of 109 Salisbury St., died Thursday, March 19, 1998, at his home.

Funeral service with military honors will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Shirlen and Rev. Wallace Jarrell officiating.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a World War II Army veteran, and former owner/operator of JC Service Station and Grocery in Star.

Surviving are wife, Veiona Jarrell of Star; son, John Jarrell of Star; daughter, Patricia Mabe of Star; brothers, Coy Jarrell of Central Falls, Herman Jarrell and Roy Jarrell, both of Star, Odell Jarrell of Asheboro and Claude Jarrell of Archdale; sister, Ruth Myrick of Robbins; four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Janice E. Reynolds

SLIDELL, La. - Janice E. Reynolds, 76, formerly of Carthage, died Thursday, March 19, 1998.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Carbonton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mary Ellen Bender officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Carthage and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughter, Dianne McNeill of Slidell, La.; sisters, Dorothy McKenzie of Carthage and Lillian Dunn of High Falls; three grandchildren.

Mary L. Johnson
Mary Alice Lowe Johnson, 65, of 2243 Lassiter Mill Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, March 22, 1998, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Science Hill Friends Meeting, where she was a member, with the Rev. James Marion officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and retired from Fashion Fabrics.

Surviving are husband, Billy W. Johnson of the home; daughter, Lynn Isom of Asheboro; son, Neil Johnson of Asheboro; four grandchildren.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Biscoe Cemetery, with the Rev. Neil Parsons officiating.

She was a native of Montgomery County and a retired textile employee.

Surviving are sons, Mickey Smith of Troy, Ricky Smith of Charlotte, Ronnie Smith of Star; sister, Pauline Parsons of Biscoe; brothers, Eugene Williams of Asheboro, Glen Williams of Biscoe; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Ceres, Va., and a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Burlington.

Surviving are two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

He was a native of Loris, S.C., the widower of Mary Elizabeth Hayes Fowler and a retired farmer.

Surviving are sons, William Coley Fowler of Fair Bluff, Dewey Edward Fowler of Wilmington; daughters, Mary Ruth Wilkins of Leland, Lucille Clemmons of Wilmington, Ruby Lee Cox of Bennett, Maggie McCullum of Elizabethtown; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Asheboro, the widower of Lucy Jane Jarrell and a member of Central Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are daughters, Melvia J. Powell of Liberty, Lois J. Boswell of Burlington, Priscilla Ann Jarrell of the home; sons, J.C. Jarrell, David Jarrell, Bobby Jarrell, Johnny Jarrell, all of Asheboro, George Herman Jarrell of High Point; brother, Baxter Jarrell of Greensboro; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
