BEAR CREEK - Gary Gray Gordon, 43, of 1968 Devils Tramping Ground Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 11. 2000, at Chatham Hospital, Siler City.

There will be no funeral service.

He was a native of Chatham County, a graduate of Chatham Central High School, a retired driver for Chandler Concrete, and a member of Providence Methodist Church in Bonlee.

Surviving are daughter, Jessica Mobley of Raleigh; parents, Roger and Barbara Phillips Gordon of Bear Creek; brothers, Bobby Gordon and William Gordon, both of Bear Creek; sister, Phyllis Duckworth of Bear Creek; one grandson.

The family will be at the home of the parents, 1740 Devils Tramping Ground Road, Bear Creek, 2-6 p.m. Friday.

Joyce-Brady Funeral Home, Bennett, is in charge of the arrangements.

ROBBINS - Dorothy Lorenza Smith Person, 53, of 127 Bellview Road, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at Plank and Marley roads, Robbins.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Collins Chapel Congregation Church, with the Rev. Grant Smith officiating. Burial will be in New Zion Cemetery.

Surviving are husband, Claude Person of Robbins; daughter, Marsha Lorenza Person of Las Vegas, Nev.; sons, Claude Vincent Person of Woodbridge, Va., Phillip Shawn Person of Greensboro; father, Alvin J. Smith of Carthage; sisters, Gloria Smith of Carthage, Wilma Barrett of Gulf; brothers, Alvin Smith, Alexander Smith, Roderick Smith, all of Carthage, Ervin Smith of South Carolina, Ronald Smith of Virginia, Wilson Smith of Eagle Springs, Anthony Smith of Raleigh.

ASHEBORO - Ruth Elizabeth Greene Curtis, 84, of 400 Vision Drive, Asheboro, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, a practical nurse and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Faith C. Thomas of Conway, Pa., Nancy Reid of Lexington; sisters, Martha Black of Jamestown, Rebecca Neal of Fayetteville; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 2-4 p.m. Saturday and 1:30-2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Lottie B. Hollingsworth
SOPHIA - Lottie Brower Hollingsworth, 82, of 1922 Hollingsworth Farm Road, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at Maryfield Nursing Home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Sophia Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Bill V. Barnes officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Moore County, the widow of Hassell Ray Hollingsworth, a homemaker and a former member of Sophia United Church of Christ.

Surviving are sons, Larry L. Hollingsworth, Richard Dale Hollingsworth, Thomas Ray Hollingsworth and Harold Curtis Hollingsworth, all of Sophia; sisters, Ruth Cothran and Ola Mae Snow, both of Asheboro; brothers, Melvin Brower and James Brower, both of Asheboro; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

Lula Mae O. Rambo
DENTON - Lula Mae Owens Rambo, 68, of 24231 N.C. 8, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at her home.

Funeral service will be noon Sunday at Avondale Church of Living God in Avondale, W.Va. Burial will be in Owens Family Cemetery at Otterbranch near Iaeger, W.Va.

She was a native of McDowell County, W. Va., a homemaker and a member of the Church of Living God.

Surviving are husband, Donald Rambo of the home; sons, Vivian Aaron Rambo of Asheboro, George Rambo of Iaeger, W.Va., Donald Rambo of Lexington, David Rambo of War, W. Va.; daughters, Teresa Absher of Denton, Lola Gail Duncan of Davey, W.Va., Virginia Brinkle of Asheboro, Ruth Ann Rambo of Denton; brothers, Alger Owens, Kyle Owens, Lawrence Owens, Junior Owens, Douglas Owens, all of West Virginia, Butch Owens of Virginia; sisters, Brenda Steele of West Virginia, Cleo Owens of Ohio, Frances Owens of Virginia; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 5 p.m. Saturday until service time.

PASSAIC, N.J. - Ina Goss Freeman, 69, of 303 Boulevard Left Unit, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at Hospital Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Ferree's Chapel United Methodist Church, Randleman, with the Rev. Homer C. Dawkins officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery, Randolph County.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Fred Freeman, a former member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and the senior choir, and was also a former member of Odessa Chapter 117, Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are son, Herman F.C. Freeman Jr.; daughters, Ora F. Kemp, Clarretta F. Alston, and Joan F. Adams, all of Passaic, N.J.; adopted daughters, Christine Allen of Passaic, N.J., Geralean Evans of Philadelphia, Pa.; brothers, Austin Goss of Atlanta, Ga., James Goss of High Point, Lewis Goss, Raymond Goss, Arthur Goss and the Rev. R. L. Goss, all of Asheboro; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Haizlip Funeral Home, High Point, 7-8 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home of Arthur L. Goss, Bowman Street, Randleman.

Nolan R. Eckler
ASHEBORO - Nolan Reese Eckler, 63, of 619 Itasca Court, Asheboro, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Monday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Dr. Boyd Stokes officiating.

He was a native of Waurika Okla., retired from J.C. Penney as retail manager and was a member of First United Methodist Church were he was formerly on the Administrative Board. He was a former Rotarian and on the boards of East Side Volunteer Fire Department and United Way of Randolph County Inc.

Surviving are wife, Lynda A. Eckler of Asheboro; son, Scott S. Eckler of Pompano Beach, Fla.; stepdaughter, Lana P. Fulton of Greensboro; stepsons, Larry Prestridge of Summerfield, Shane Shelton of Reidsville; brother, Richard Eckler of North Little Rock, Ark.; sister, Mary E. Barnhart of Palestine, Texas; eight stepgrandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

RANDLEMAN - Kyvel Gray Ferree, 93, of 310 E. Naomi St., died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Care and Wellness Center, Masonic and Eastern Star Home, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Wesleyan Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Don Hurlburt, the Rev. Alvin C. Newcomb and the Rev. W. Don Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Country Holiness Cemetery.

She was a native of Randleman, a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School class and widow of John J. Ferree.

Surviving are daughters, Rebecca F. Brown, Rachel F. Graves, both of Greensboro; sisters, Jessie M. Gray, Ruby A. Gray, both of Randleman.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday.

JACKSON SPRINGS - James Martin "Jim" Patterson, 91, of Jackson Springs Road, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Manor Care Nursing Home, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jackson Springs Presbyterian Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Robert Brozina officiating. Burial will be in the Patterson Family Cemetery.

The family will be at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home, Candor, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday.

Annie H. Thomas
MT. GILEAD - Annie Mae Haywood Thomas, 76, of Thomasville Church Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 200O, in Northeast Medical Center, Concord.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Thomasville Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Richmond County, president of the Pastor's Aide Committee, on the usher board, a choir member and a Sunday School teacher.

Surviving are husband, Maston Thomas Sr. of the home; daughter, Linda Horne of Troy; sons; Harvey Lee Thomas, Jerry Thomas, both of Mt. Gilead, Maston Thomas Jr. of Hope Mills, Benjamin Thomas of Fayetteville, Malcom Thomas of Albemarle; brothers, R.B. Haywood, Sylvester Haywood, Lester Haywood, all of Mt. Gilead; sisters, Hattie Lee Miller, Alice Lee Pankey, both of Mt. Gilead; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

Burmon N. Greene Jr.
DRY CREEK - Burmon Newkirt Greene Jr., 69, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, with the Rev. C. L. Wall officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are brother, Milfred F. Greene of Candor; sister, Evelyn Armstrong of Candor.

The family will be at R.C. Bostic Funeral Home, Candor, 7-8 p.m. Sunday.

Dr. Andrew M. Henderson
MOORESVILLE - Dr. Andrew McKnitt "Mack" Henderson, 80, of Mooresville, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, with Dr. S. Edwin Lewis, Dr. Fred A. Coates and the Rev. Jeff Lowrance officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Huntersville.

He was a native of Mooresville, widower of Margaret Adcock Henderson, and a graduate of Lees-McRae College, Appalachian State Teachers' College and Bowman Gray School of Medicine. He practiced medicine in Mooresville for 40 years, was a member of N.C. Medical Society and a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran. He attended Hopewell Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Men's Bible Class at First Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are daughters, Margaret Anne H. Jorgensen of San Francisco, Calif., Nancy H. Whitlatch of Lewisville, Rebekah H. Megerian of Asheboro, Sarah Delia Henderson of Mooresville; son, Andrew M. Henderson III of Oriental; six grandchildren.

The family will be at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, 6-8 p.m. Sunday.

ASHEBORO - Anita Burge Burton, 89, of Maryfield Nursing Home, High Point, formerly of Asheboro, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Randolph Memorial Park, with Dr. Donald Haynes officiating.

She was a native of Davidson County, a member of Central United Methodist Church and the former owner of Burge Flower Shop, Asheboro.

Surviving are daughters, Brenda Burge de Suze of Potomac, Md., Bonnie B. Hammond of Greensboro; son, Robert A. Burge of Asheboro.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 1:30- 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service.

Paul Hathaway
ASHEBORO - Richard Paul Hathaway, 68, of 127 Charles Ave., Asheboro, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at his home.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Beane Family Cemetery, with Dr. Richard Crider officiating.

He was retired from the U.S. Army and was the widower of Eulah Mae Hathaway.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 1:30-2 p.m. Tuesday.

Ernestine B. Morris
ASHEBORO - Ernestine Buchanan Morris, of 356 E. Salisbury St., Asheboro, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Gailes Funeral Home, Asheboro. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

She was a retired nurse from Creedmoor State Hospital in New York after 25 years.

Surviving are sisters, Pinkey B. Rush and Roxanna B. Collins, both of Asheboro, Ella Mae DeBerry of Ridgefield, N.J.

The family will be at the funeral home 2 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Josephine Jones, 960 Cedar Falls Road, Asheboro.

Geneva S. Robbins
ASHEBORO - Geneva Spillman Robbins, 79, of 918 Fermer Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of Yadkin County and retired from General Electric.

Surviving are son, Chester W. Robbins of Asheboro; daughter, Peggy Maness of Randleman; sisters, Mary Lou Myers, Hazel Lineberry, Frances Tucker, all of East Bend, Etta Lineberry of Booneville; brothers, Wiley Spillman of Winston-Salem, William Spillman, Johnny Spillman, both of East Bend; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

ASHEBORO - William Pinkney Strider, 99, of 323 N. Broad St., Seagrove, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Seagrove United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Fran Moran officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired from Seagrove School, was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, attended Seagrove United Methodist Church and was a retired farmer.

Surviving are wife, Dora Jean Kearns Strider of Seagrove; daughter, Doris Barrett of Asheboro; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-8 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of the daughter, 3502 Midway Acres Road, Asheboro.

Shelton Williams
ASHEBORO - Shelton Williams, 78, of Asheboro, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Carl Zeigler and Mark Sink officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Columbus County, a member of Cobb Memorial Baptist Church, Rockingham, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and one was one of the first medical volunteers to Nagasaki after the atomic bomb deployment. He was retired from Burlington Industries.

Surviving are wife, Ruth Johnson Williams; son, Phil Williams of Asheboro; daughters, Gail Cranford of Lexington, Susan Scarboro of Thomasville, Diane Weller of Farmer; sisters, Elle Tanner, Helen Grant, Isabel Reynolds, Faye Helton, Linda Taylor, Mary Johnson, all of Rockingham, Leona Kellis of Candor; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

SOPHIA - Vickie Cunningham Gray, 42, of 2531 Plott Hound Trail, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, with the Rev. Jim Honeycutt officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

She was a native of Guilford County, a former employee of Furnitureland South and a member of Caraway Baptist Church.

Surviving is mother, Mollie Hamlet Cunningham of Sophia; daughters, Shelly Cottrell and Mollie Gray, both of Sophia; sister, Araina Boggs of Asheboro; brothers, Bill Cunningham of Wallburg, James Cunningham of Asheboro, Richard Cunningham of Greensboro; two granddaughters.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of her mother, 4434 Pine Needles Lane, Sophia.

Dr. Larry Burwell
THOMASVILLE - Dr. Larry Burwell, 65, of 360 Cedarland Drive, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, in Community General Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Heidelberg United Church of Christ, where he was a member, with the Rev. Jamie Fonville and the Rev. Jim Staunton officiating. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.

He was a native of Mecklenburg County, the presiding minister at Christ United Church of Christ, Lexington, and worked with Community General Hospital as a certified Lab Technologist. He was formerly employed with Lexington City Schools as Director of Technology and Project Development, was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of Phi Delta Cappa and a board of directors member of the Western Association of United Church Of Christ. He was president of the church brotherhood, a member of the hand bell and chancel choir and served on the Consistory at his church.

Surviving are wife, Reba Fowler Burwell of the home; daughter, Amy Litton of Virginia Beach, Va.; son, Jeffrey Burwell of Staley; brother, Robert Burwell of Greensboro; one grandson.

The family will be at J. C. Green & Sons Funeral Home, Thomasville, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.
