ASHEBORO - Wade C. Miller, 78, of 539 Old Liberty Road, Asheboro, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at VA Medical Center, Durham.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Randolph Memorial Park, with the Rev. Dale Kennedy and the Rev. Don Leonard officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County, a World War II U.S. Army Air Force veteran, a charter member and past president of the Asheboro Civitan Club, a charter member of First E & R United Church of Christ and was the retired owner of AAA Sand & Gravel.

Surviving are wife, Doris Saunders Miller; daughter, Debra M. Ayers of Greenville, S.C.; son, Wade C. "Cliff" Miller Jr. of Greensboro; sister, Virginia M. Highfill of Franklinville; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

ASHEBORO - Beulah Kate Nance, 92, of 165 Crestview Church Road, Asheboro, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Memorial service will be 6-7 p.m. Friday at the home.

Surviving are daughters, Natalie Madge Nance of Sophia, Elaine N. Boggs, Beulah Beane, both of Asheboro; son, Troy Nance of Asheboro; 25 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren.

C.C. Hodges Funeral Service, Asheboro, is in charge of the arrangements.

GREENSBORO - Ruby Phillips Brooks, 90, of 1007 W. Bessemer Ave., died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Extended Care Center, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, with the Rev. Bryan CrumpIer officiating. Burial will be in Sandy Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, Bear Creek.

She was a native of Chatham County, the widow of Ike Brooks and a member of Bonlee Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, Bill Brooks of St. Petersburg, Fla.; daughter, Doris B. Stoneman of Greensboro; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Annie M. Johnson
SILER CITY - Annie Mae Draper Johnson, 86, of 2232 White-Smith Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at SunBridge Care Facilities, Siler City.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Pittsboro, where she was a member, with the Rev. Perry Hardison and the Rev. Gerald Bridges officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Henry County, Va., the widow of James Curnie Johnson, a member of the Adult Sunday School Class at her church, and was retired from Hadley Peoples Manufacturing Company.

Surviving are son, James Edward Johnson of Siler City; daughter, Martha J. White of Siler City; sister, Gladys D. Gunter of Asheboro; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

Hazel W. Tate
DENTON - Hazel Widener Tate, 65, of Farmer Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at her home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Taylor's Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Cooper officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Washington County, Va., the widow of Charlie A. Tate and was a homemaker.

Surviving are sons, Chaplain Jessie Tate of Norfolk, Va., David Tate of Independence, Mo., Charlie Tate of Denton; foster son, Tony Glenn Woodard of Denton; daughters, Barbara Nance of Asheboro, Janie Stilwell of Thomasville, Linda Smith and Therese Williams, both of Denton; brothers, Claude Widener of Thomasville, Sam Widener of Tampa, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

Shirley J. Taylor
CARTHAGE - Shirley Jane Taylor, 64 of 125 Clearview Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Womack Army Medical Center, Ft. Bragg.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Olive A.M. E. Zion Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County and a retired textile employee.

Surviving are daughters, Shirley Diane Bynum of High Point, Maria Roseboro and Renee Taylor, both of Carthage, Ramona Derrickson of Spring Lake; son, Charles Anthony Taylor of Carthage; sister, Maxine Stevenson of Carthage; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-8 p.m. Friday.

Herman B. Maness
ROCKINGHAM - Herman Branson Maness, 83, of 109 Goodman St., died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Carolyn Cummings-Woriax officiating. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, the widower of Rushie Cox Maness, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and was retired from the Milliken Company in Robbins.

Surviving are sons, Perry Maness of Rockingham, Marc Monroe of Monroe, Ray Sager of Lancaster, S.C.; daughter, Sarah Harris of Rockingham; brother, Felton Maness of Carthage; sisters, Doshie Jones and Mildred Jones, both of Bennett, Mazie Flinchum of Carthage; 13 grandchildren; 20 great- grandchildren.

The family will be at Carter Funeral Home, Rockingham, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

ASHEBORO - Elizabeth Brown McKellar, 84, of 907 Oakmont Drive, Asheboro, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Asheboro Health and Rehabilitation.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. W. Russell Ward Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of Oxford, the widow of Thomas P. McKellar Jr., former co-owner of Maple Grove Dairy, a homemaker and a part-time salesperson for World Book Encyclopedia.

Surviving are son, Richard A. McKellar of Wilson; brothers, Connis Brown of Franklinton, Norris Brown of Durham, Leroy Brown of Huntsville, Ala.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

ASHEBORO - Edny Archibald Tysinger Jr., 82, of 642 Farr St., Asheboro, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Giles Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Danny Jarrell officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County.

Surviving are daughters, Jeanetta Jean of Portsmouth, Va., Patsy Lee Doggett of Chesapeake, Va.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Donald C. Hancock
FRANKLINVILLE - Donald Cleveland Hancock, 68, of 481 Depot St., died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Panther Creek Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev John Beane and the Rev. Kenneth McNeill officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Guilford County and had been employed with Cone Mills.

Surviving are wife, Mary McKinney Hancock of the home; daughter, Jane H. Graves of Franklinville; three grandsons; one great-grandson.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

DENTON - Nannie Halton Snider, 104, of SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation for Asheboro, formerly of Piedmont School Road, Denton, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at SunBridge.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Vernon Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Denton Town Cemetery.

She was a native of Davidson County, the widow of Edgar F. Snider, a retired employee of the Denton School cafeteria and a homemaker.

Surviving are son, Raymond Snider of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Margie Huff of Asheboro; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6-7:30 p.m. Friday.

Ernest F. Brown
TROY - Ernest Foy Brown, 78, of 734 Bruton St., died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Troy, where he was a member, with the Rev. Raleigh Castelloe officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County; a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a retired auto-body repair technician.

Surviving are wife, Edna Mabe Brown of the home; sons, Ronald F. Brown of Troy, Phillip Brown of Woodrun, Terry Brown of Mt. Gilead; brother, Colvin Brown of Star; sister, Flora Mae Ward of Seagrove; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

Clinton D. McDowell
OXFORD - Clinton David McDowell, 66, of 112 W. College St., died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Granville Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. George McDowell officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro.

He was a native of Randolph County, a member of Pleasant Union Church, was retired from Cristex and was employed at Currin's Building Supply.

Surviving are wife, Mattie Sue Simmons McDowell of the home; daughter, Debra M. Easterling of Oxford; brothers, Trellis McDowell of Trinity, Lauren McDowell and Gregory McDowell, both of Asheboro; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Eakes Funeral Home, Oxford, 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, and at the funeral home in Asheboro, 1-2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service.

George E. McPherson
FRANKLINVILLE - George Edward McPherson, 58, of 316 Academy St., died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Vonnie Vredenburg and the Rev. Jessie Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County and was employed with Sapona Manufacturing.

Surviving are brother, Larry McPherson of Ramseur; sisters, Shirley McPherson and Imogene Morris, both of the home, Gaynell Marley and Patsy McNeill, both of Coleridge, Diane Whittington of Randleman, Gail McMasters of Ramseur.

Higah L. Spinks
SEAGROVE - Higah L. Spinks of 6689 Antioch Church Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

She was a native of Montgomery County and a baby-sitter.

Sanders, Johnny Wayne Saunders, all of Troy, Frank Saunders of Asheboro; sister, Rose Riddle of Cincinnati, Ohio; brother, Lester Singleton of Tempe, Ariz.; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren.

CARTHAGE - Leland F. Frye, 71, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at his home.

She was a native of Asheboro, the former owner of the Carriage Shop and a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are husband, Dalton Alexander Kennedy of the home; sons, Fred Kennedy of Avondale Estates, Ga., Bob Kennedy of Roswell, Ga.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Laura L. Betts
ASHEBORO - Laura Lucas Betts, 85, of Carillon Assisted Living of Asheboro, 2925 Zoo Parkway, Asheboro, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Elder Richard Kirby officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of Seagrove, the widow of Clarence E. Betts, was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a member of the Primitive Baptist Church, and was a self-employed beautician for 25 years.

Surviving are son, Ray Betts of Asheboro; brothers, James Lucas of Homestead, Fla., David Lucas of Seagrove, Joe Lucas of Asheboro; one granddaughter; two stepgrandsons; one stepgreat-grandson.

ASHEBORO - Ollie Varner Thornburg, 90, of Crossroad Retirement Village, Asheboro, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Asheboro Friends Meeting, where she was a member, with the Rev. Robert L. Kidd officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was the widow of Reece Thornburg.
