ASHEBORO - Essie Thompson Robbins, 79, formerly of Uwharrie Street, Asheboro, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, at West Bend United Methodist Church, where she attended, with the Rev. David Noyes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Donald W. Robbins, and was retired from General Electric after 30 years.

Surviving are daughter, Jan R. Braswell of Asheboro; son, Ken D. Robbins of Asheboro; sister, Joyce Conner of Asheboro; brother, Bill Thompson of Asheboro; five grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Friday; other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Robbins, 909 Monroe Ave., Asheboro.

Memorials may be made to West Bend United Methodist Church, Perpetual Care Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 1845, Asheboro, N.C. 27203.

RAMSEUR - Joel "JoJo" Yancey, of 5203 Brookgreen Road, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, at Lewis Grove Holiness Church. Burial will be in Amos Grove Cemetery.

Surviving are daughters, Angela Yancey, Jammie Yancey, both of Asheboro; sister, Annette Snipes of Burlington; brothers, Hubert Yancey Jr., Danny Yancey, Timothy Yancey, Jerry Yancey, all of Burlington, Gary Yancey of Utah.

The family will be at the church one hour prior to the service; other times at the home of Louise and Grover White, 508 W. Kime St., Liberty.

Kimes Funeral Service, Liberty, is in charge of arrangements.

Mildred M. Boggs
FRANKLINVILLE - Mildred McNeill Boggs, 73, of 311 Parks St., died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, at Church of God of Prophecy, where she was a member, with the Rev. Jack Kivett and the Rev. Earl West officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County, retired from Jockey International, and was employed with Fine Line Hosiery.

Surviving are daughters, Linda McDowell of Asheboro, Brenda Biggers of Concord; brothers, James Aster "Buddy" McNeill Jr., Richard McNeill, both of Asheboro; sisters, Ruby Hoover, Clarice Hurley, Norma Jean Smith, all of Asheboro, Dorothy Upton of Seagrove; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Friday; other times at the home of Linda McDowell, 1807 Lantern Drive, Asheboro.

Dora W. Phillips
SILER CITY - Dora Williams Phillips, 67, 13974 N.C. 902, Bear Creek, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, Bear Creek, where she was a member, with the Rev. Darrell Garner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of New Orleans, La. and was a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Homer Phillips of Bear Creek; daughters, Tammy P. Stewart of Bear Creek, Dawn P. Kelley of Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany; stepdaughter, Elaine Wilhelm of Statesville; sisters, Alice Thiac, Joy Ann Rillieux, Madeline Langhauser, Betty Boudreaux, all of Louisiana; brothers, Huey Williams of Texas, Raymond Williams, George Williams, Horace Williams, Sidney Williams, all of Louisiana; six grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

Ultra L. Parks
OCOEE, Fla. - Ultra Lowdermilk Parks, 88, of Hawthorne Cove Drive, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, at Carey Hand Cox-Parker Funeral Home, Winter Park, Fla.

She was a native of Randolph County, a charter member of St. Paul's Methodist Church, and retired as office manager at Alberta Crate & Box Company.

Surviving are sons, David Parks of Edgewater, Fla., Robert Parks of Titusville, Fla.; sister, Lucy Leigh Wright of Asheboro; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Hank Kennedy
RAMSEUR - Hansel "Hank" Lee Kennedy, 74, 1382 Church St., died Thursday, Dec. 7, 200O, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with Charles Carter officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired from Bartlett Nuclear Co. and was both a U.S. Navy and a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving in World War II and Korea. He was a member of the VFW.

Surviving are wife, Alice Richardson Kennedy of the home; sons, Winfred Lee Kennedy of Sturgis, Mich., James Dale Kennedy of Franklinville; daughter, Bonnie Kennedy of Raleigh; stepsons, Barry Richardson of Ramseur, Leon Saunders of Troy; brothers, Herman Kennedy of Randleman, Eugene Kennedy of Melbourne, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

Pablo M. Lopez
RAMSEUR - Pablo Mendoza Lopez, 19, of 4285 Rockie River St., died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, in Ramseur.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, at Siler City Church Of God, with the Rev. Enrique C. Zagada officiating. Burial will be in Chatham Memorial Park, Siler City.

He was a native of California and employed with Advance Auto Parts in Siler City.

Surviving are parents, Pablo & Maria Gutierez of Ramseur; sister, Maria Alverez Mendoza of Siler City; brother, Luis A. Mendoza of Ramseur; grandmother, Maria Lopez; grandfathers, Isidoneo Lopez, Abel Mendoza.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, noon-1 p.m. Sunday.

Walter E. Bivens
DENTON - Walter Eli Bivens, 82, of Flat Swamp Road, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation in Lexington.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, with the Rev. Flynn Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Summerville Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was the widower of Minnie Owens Bivens, a member of Summerville Baptist Church, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, and retired from Lexington Furniture Industries Link-Taylor Plant.

Surviving are son, Ray Bivens of Denton; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Saturday; other times at the home of Ray Bivens, 2974 Flat Swamp Road, Denton.

Francis J. McMahon
ASHEBORO - Francis James McMahon, 80, of Cross Roads Retirement Center, Asheboro, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

No service will be held.

He was a native of Lawrence, Mass., retired from Wieman Furniture Mfg., a World War II U.S. Army veteran and of the Catholic faith.

Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, is in charge of the arrangements.

Bettie S. Cheek
RAMSEUR - Bettie S. Cheek, 5516 McQueen Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at Isley Family Care Home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Oakland Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Oakland-McCrary Cemetery.

Surviving are daughter, Tiajuana Garrett of Queens, N.Y.; sisters, Lucille Peoples of Pleasant Garden, Irene McMillian, Alberta Miller, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; brothers, William Miller of Brooklyn, N.Y., James Miller of Connecticut; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson.

The family will be at the church 1-2 p.m. Monday.

Madge P. Smith
SILER CITY - Madge Phillips Smith, 49, of 1103 S. Second Ave., died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Wesleyan Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Dennis Boone officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County, a Sunday School teacher and employed with Chatham Trades as a Cap Aid.

Surviving are husband, Kerney A. Smith of Siler City; daughters, Amy Victoria Smith, Kari Nicole Smith, both of Siler City; mother, Margaret L. Phillips of Siler City; sister, JoAnn Glass of Liberty.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

Elsie H. Henley
Mt. GILEAD - Elsie Lurine Hannah Henley, 84, of 2738 N.C. 109 South, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at her home.

Funeral service was 2 p.m. Sunday, at McAuley Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Joyline A. Howard officiating. Burial was in Thomasville Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a Montgomery county native, the widow of Walter Webster Henley, and a graduate of Winston-Salem Teachers College. She was a retired educator, having served 29 years in the Montgomery County School System, and was a member of the NCAE and The Retired Teachers Association.

Surviving are daughter, Karen Henley Huff of the home; granddaughter, Tanya Dubose of the home; grandson, Terrell Dubose of the home.

Harris Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, is in charge of the arrangements.

Joe A. Sneed
Mt. GILEAD - Joe Allen Sneed, 74, of 145 N.C. 731 East, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at FirstHealth Montgomery Hospital, Troy.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Little River United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ben Wilson and the Rev. Alex Willoughby officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a World War II U.S. Marines veteran and the first fire chief of the Pekin Volunteer Fire Department. He was Scoutmaster of Troop 250 of Pekin for over 25 years and served as church superintendent for over 30 years at Little River United Methodist Church. He was retired from the N.C. Department of Transportation, where he was an equipment operator.

Surviving are wife, Lois Byrd Sneed of the home; son, Frank A. Sneed of Mt. Gilead; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Sneed of Troy; brothers, John Sneed, Bobby Sneed, both of Mt. Gilead; sisters, Mae Dell Sculteis, Betty Sculteis, both of New Bern; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Memorials may be made to the Little River United Methodist Church, c/o Judy Halstead, P.O. Box 417, Mt. Gilead, N.C. 27306.

Bernice S. Huneycutt
OAKBORO - Bernice Seneca Huneycutt, 76, of 14041A Liberty Hill Church Road, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Stanly Manor.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle, with the Rev. Everette Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Park Mausoleum, Albemarle.

She was a Stanly County native, former owner/operator of Beauty Nook and a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Surviving are husband, Hugh Adam Huneycutt of Oakboro; daughters, Joyce Irene Rabon of Asheboro, Nancy Jean Jeffcoat of Lexington; sisters, Shirley Bowers, Patricia Scott, both of Albemarle, Lucy Eudy of Norwood, Neomia Heigler of Midland, Inez Harvell of Oakboro; brothers, Hoover Morton of Oakboro, Delnore Morton of Albemarle; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the residence.

Zora J. Presley
GLENDON - Zora J. Presley, 79, of 1391 Glendon-Carthage Road, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Glendon Christian Church, with the Rev. Robert Yandle officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, the widow of Jody Ray Presley and was a retired post-mistress of the Glendon Post Office.

Surviving are daughter, Frances Langley of Glendon; sister, Ida Pearl Bragg of Durham; brothers, Robert Jackson of Carthage, Frank Jackson of Rockingham; one granddaughter.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Eugene H. Lawson
CARTHAGE - Eugene H. Lawson, 59 ,of 1039 Joel Road, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at New Home Baptist Church Cemetery in Vass, with the Rev. Jimmy Phillips officiating.

He was a native of Hoke County.

Surviving are sister, Ethel L. Games of Cameron; brother, Robert Lawson of High Point.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-8:30 p.m. Monday.

Edgar C. Luck
ASHEBORO - Edgar Clay Luck, 78, of 1969 Bailey Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

No service is planned.

He was a native of Randolph County and formerly employed with L Ranch Furniture Co.

Surviving are wife, Irene Henley Luck of the home; daughters, Mildred L. Coggins of Asheboro, Marie L. Joyce of Stoneville; sons, Edgar Ray Luck of Apex, Bobby Luck of Asheboro, Larry Luck of Seagrove; brother, John Lee Luck of Asheboro; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Alley Camp and the Rev. Mary Moore officiating.

She was a native of Guilford County and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Kim Brown, Brandi Brown and Miranda Brown, all of Asheboro; mother, Evangeline Hiatt of High Point; father, Gray Ussery of High Point; brothers, Billy Gray Ussery of High Point, Chris Ussery of Archdale; sister, Kathy Lee Varner of Thomasville; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, noon-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Kim Brown, 605 Sunset Ave., Asheboro.

Nora C. Osborne
SOPHIA - Nora Alice Castle Osborne, 57, of 2239 Woodfield Drive, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Randolph Memorial Park, with the Rev. Dwane Pugh officiating.

She was a native of Offutt, Ky., and a homemaker.

Surviving are sons, Robert Lynn Osborne of Randleman, Danny Ray Osborne of Bassett, Va., Larry Wayne Osborne of Sophia; daughter, Tina Louise Osborne of Sophia; sisters, Betty Castle of Urbana, Ohio, Margie M. Baldwin of Paintsville, Ky., Brenda Chandler of Trinity, Doris Cameron of Randleman; brothers, Patrick Castle Jr. of Meally, Ky., Scotty A. Castle of Offutt, Ky.; three grandchildren.

BISCOE - Charles Allen Loflin, 40, of 216 Shady Oak Drive, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, with the Rev. David Beck officiating. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Hills Memorial Park, Lexington.

He was a native of Davidson County and was employed with Myrick Construction.

Surviving are fiancée, Sue King of the home; parents, A.C. and Nancy Weaver Loflin of Biscoe; sister, Linda Allison Webb of Biscoe.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.
