SPRING HOPE - Eula Blanche Tunnell Cummings, 95, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Spring Hope First Baptist Church, where she was the oldest member, with the Rev. Greg Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery, Spring Hope.

Surviving are daughter, Kay Bowman; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - Edith McKinney Clifton, 83, of 2578 Old Cox Road, Asheboro, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation of Asheboro.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oaklawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Clay Davis officiating.

She was a native of Guilford County, the widow of James C. Clifton, retired from Jockey International, was a former co-owner of Clifton's Cafe in Star and Victory Sandwich Shop and was a member of Central United Methodist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Doris Cooper of Asheboro; son, Bobby Clifton of Asheboro; brother, Hardin I. McKinney of New Bern; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Douglas E. Thomas
HIGH POINT - Douglas E. Thomas, 53, of 3216 Rolling Road, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, with the Rev. Ralph H. Eanes Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

A native of Asheboro, Thomas, CLU, RHU, was the owner and general agent of Triad Financial Services Inc., of Greensboro, a graduate of Asheboro High School and of Elon College. He had worked with the Paul Revere Insurance Co. as the general agent for the Greensboro office, and with Triad Financial. He was a member of the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce, Society of Financial Service Professionals, Greensboro Life Underwriters, Greensboro Association of Insurance and Financial Planners, and CPN of North Carolina Inc. He was a member of Green Street Baptist Church and the John Riggs Sunday School Class.

Surviving are wife, Patricia Hale Thomas of the home; daughters, Sharon D. Cornelison of High Point, Angela D. Cornelison of Tampa, Fla.; mother, Lois Freeman Thomas of Asheboro; sister, Carolyn T. Santanella of Asheboro; brothers, Lowell L. Thomas of Blowing Rock, Dwight C. Thomas of Greensboro, Wayne D. Thomas and Boyd E. Thomas, both of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

GREENSBORO - Evelyn Virginia Smith of 1030 Westover Terrace died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

She was a graduate of Greensboro High School (now Grimsley), attended Women's College, was retired from the Greensboro office of the Internal Revenue, was a member of West Market United Methodist Church and the Morris Sunday School Class.

Surviving is sister, Eloise Smith Johnson Poe of Asheboro.

The family will be at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, North Elm Street, Greensboro, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

THOMASVILLE - Decie Stanley Murphy, 94, of 1028 Blair St., died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Liberty Wood Nursing Center, Thomasville.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Grove Christian Cemetery, Bennett, with Kenneth H. Huggins officiating.

She was a native of Chatham County.

Surviving are daughter, Mary M. Pyrtle of High Point; sister, Margaret S. Brown of Siler City; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Ruth A. Venable
THOMASVILLE - Ruth Elizabeth Allred Venable, 74, of 807 1/2 E. Cooksey Drive, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at her home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sechrest Funeral Home, High Point, with the Rev. D. Bruce Hooper officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, a homemaker and attended Greenwood Hills Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are husband, Wayne H. Venable of the home; son, Larry Wayne Venable of Thomasville; sisters, Opal Ann Hoover of Franklinville, Arro Mae West of Asheboro; two grandchildren; one great-grandson.

Joyce S. Neal
DENTON - Joyce Smith Neal, 85, of Mountain Vista Health Park, Denton, and formerly of Tyvola Road in Charlotte, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Mountain Vista.

Funeral service will be 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, with the Rev. Mike Hammond officiating. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte.

She was the widow of Beckham U. Neal, retired after 23 years from Pinewood Elementary School in Charlotte and was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, Gerald "Jerry" Neal of Winston-Salem; daughters, Gloria Rollings of Mooresville, Bonney Buie of Denton; brother, Emmit Smith of Southport; sisters, Hallie Hammond of Heath Springs, S.C., Lois Curlee of Surf City; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Bonney Buie, Lake Ridge Trail, Denton.

STAR - Paul Edward Davis, 86, of 327 Freeman St., died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, with the Rev. Clyde Allen officiating. Burial will be in Leach Cemetery.

He was the widower of Mary Green Davis.

Surviving are sons, Jimmy L. Davis of Albemarle, John Paul Davis of Star, William "Bill" Charles Davis of Seagrove; brother, Dewey Odell Davis of Star; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.

RALEIGH - Maggie Wicker Brown, 81, of 5007 Tanglewood Drive, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Rex Hospital, Raleigh.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rocky River Friends Cemetery, Siler City, with the Rev. David Hobson officiating.

She was a native of Chatham County and was retired from Blue Bell in Greensboro.

Surviving are son, William Brown of Raleigh; sister, Juanita Wicker Weaver of Taylorsville; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, is in charge of the arrangements.

SEAGROVE - Henry Farrell Needham Sr., 64, of 148 Needham Family Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Needham's Grove Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. James E. Cockram officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors.

He was a native of Moore County, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5631 in Sanford, a supervisor at Milliken Company and a retired supervisor with Avandale Mills, Sanford.

Surviving are wife, Kathelene Woodel Needham; son, Henry F. Needham Jr. of Seagrove; daughters, Cindy Needham of Sanford, Regena N. Lambert of Bennett, Sonya N. Hand of Seagrove; brother, Lawrence Needham of Seagrove; sisters, Isabel N. Blake of Albemarle, Leta Needham, Lucille Needham and Johnsie N. Hussey, all of Seagrove; eight grandchildren.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

RAMSEUR - Edna Samiriah Nixon, 506 Columbia Ave., died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Joseph Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Kildee Wesleyan Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, retired from Acme-McCrary and was a member of First United Church of Christ.

Surviving are sisters, Ruth Powell of Asheboro, Clara Pugh of Ramseur.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home of Clara Pugh, 4353 Jones St. Ext., Ramseur.

Robert L. Lackey
STALEY - Robert Lee "Bobby" Lackey, 67, of 1898 Shady Grove Church Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Chatham Hospital, Siler City.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pleasant Hill Christian Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Larry Martin officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County, a past member of the Staley Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Piedmont Horseman's Association.

Surviving are wife, Betty Jo Lackey of the home; sons, Tony Lackey of Siler City, Mike Lackey of Staley; stepparents, Nell and Louis Purcell of Greensboro; sisters, Linda Forest of Greensboro, Jean Eudy of Sophia; brother, Wayne Purcell of Murphy; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Vernie L. Grey
BISCOE - Vernie Lite Grey, 68, of 409 Mill St., died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Biscoe Cemetery.

Surviving are wife, Mildred Grey of Biscoe; son, Chris Grey of Seagrove; brothers, Buddy Grey of Biscoe, Carl Grey of Candor; sisters, Kathleen Robbins of Aberdeen, Christine Sedberry and Flonnie Shepard, both of Biscoe; three grandchildren.

JACKSON SPRINGS - Danny Michael Williams, 43, of 115 Morganton Road, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Briggs Candor Funeral Home, Candor, with the Rev. Harold Parker and the Rev. Walter Daniels officiating. Burial will be in Marcus United Methodist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a member of Marcus United Methodist Church and had been employed at Williams Grocery in Windblow,

Surviving are father and stepmother, Bobby Lee and Diane Stackhouse Williams of Jackson Springs; grandmother, Jeanette Baldwin of West End; brothers, Bobby Lee Williams Jr. of San Francisco, Calif., Robbie DeVogt of Jackson Springs; sister, Sharon Plummer of Asheboro; stepbrothers, Gary Miller and Nathan Miller, both of Jackson Springs; stepsister, Victoria Miller of Jackson Springs.

The family will be at the funeral home, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home of the father, 139 Morganton Road, Jackson Springs.

CARTHAGE - Charles Murchison MacLeod, 81, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at Manor Care of Pinehurst.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church Cemetery, with Pastor L.M. Williamson officiating.

He was a native of Carthage and was a retired Clerk of Moore County Superior Court.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Betty D. Adams
ASHEBORO - Betty Dabbs Adams, 65, of Asheboro, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Rex Hospital, Raleigh.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman. Entombment will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Kathi Yow of Randleman, Susan Pappas of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; son, Ricky Callicutt of Denton; brothers, Lewis Dabbs and Eddie Dabbs, both of Asheboro, Jimmy Dabbs of Clemmons; sisters, Elaine Lane of Sumter, S.C., Carolyn Broder of Tennessee, Chris Nixon of Asheboro; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchildren.

Surviving are daughter, Phyllis Ramsay of New York, N.Y.; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter.

ASHEBORO - Thomas James McIntosh Jr., 76, of 549 Holly St., Asheboro, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with Dr. Boyd Stokes officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Hartsville, S.C., a retired Asheboro city manager and had previously been a city manager of Ahoskie and assistant city manager and interim city manager of Hickory. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a past president of the Golden Kiwanis Club, a former Rotarian, a member of the American Legion and a former Little League football coach. He was a founding member of the Randolph County Senior Adults Center, chairman of the Piedmont Triad Council on Aging with the Piedmont Triad Council of Governments and on the board of directors of CASPN Homes. He was a member of the board of directors for the Asheboro/Randolph Chamber of Commerce and was a Sunday School teacher at his church.

Surviving are wife, Marion Roberts McIntosh; sons, Jim McIntosh of Ramseur, Julian McIntosh and Bob McIntosh, both of Asheboro; daughter, Mary M. Dunn of Asheboro; sister, Olive M. Toy of Atlanta, Ga.; brother, Robert Murray McIntosh of Columbia, S.C.; three granddaughters.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-8 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

ASHEBORO - Milton Merit "Butch" Pickard, 81, of 1462 Hight St., Asheboro, formerly of Siler City, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, with the Rev. Ronald Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Staley Cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, attended First Wesleyan Church, was a retired furniture packer for Selig Manufacturing and was a War World II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Geneva Pickard of Asheboro; daughters, Angie Prescott of Asheboro, Lu Ann Ellington of Staley; sisters, Ruby Blair, Frances Robbins, Cloyce Poe, all of Siler City, Allene Lambert of Charleston, S.C., Edith Moore of Robbins; brothers, Doug Pickard of Siler City, Jack Pickard of Bonlee, Jerry Pickard of Asheboro; three grandsons.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Samuel E. Trogdon Jr.
ASHEBORO - Samuel E. Trogdon Jr., 82, of 715 Worth St., Asheboro, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Oaklawn Cemetery, with Dr. Robert Williams and Dr. Boyd Stokes officiating.

He was a graduate of Franklinville High School, attended High Point College and was a World War II U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a charter member of the Asheboro Junior Chamber of Commerce (now Jaycees), a member of First United Methodist Church and past president of S.E. Trogdon and Sons, General Contractors.

Surviving are wife, Gladys Steed Trogdon of the home; daughter, Nancy Weeks of Lexington; son, Samuel J. Trogdon of Asheboro; sisters, Nina T. Barone of Greensboro, Wanda T. Ilderton of High Point; brother, W. Joseph Trogdon of Asheboro; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.
