CARTHAGE - J. Nelson Black, 61, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2001, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Culdee Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Chris Bobo officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County and a retired schoolteacher.

Surviving are wife, Penny H. Black; daughters, Tammy Stuart of Manassas, Va., Cheryl Lackey of Bristow, Va.; sisters, Thelma Hiedlage of Sarcoxie, Mo., Melba Vest of West End, Carolyn Smith and Betty McKenzie, both of Pinehurst; brothers, Harold Black of West End, Norman Black of Southern Pines; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of Harold Black, 565 N.C. 73, West End.

Helga R. Huffman
TROY - Helga Richter Huffman, 59, of 1934 N.C. 109 North, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church, New Hope, where she was a member.

She was a native of Frankfurt, Germany, and a retired winder with Burlington Industries.

Surviving are husband, Charles W. Huffman of the home; son, Cecil Joe Heavner of Lincolnton; stepsons, Charles Erick Huffman of Claremont, Terry Huffman of Newton; stepdaughter, Ronda H. Frye of Newton; brother, Helmut Richter of Pittsbury, Calif.; half sister, Edith Fobe of San Francisco, Calif.; 10 grandchildren.

Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, is in charge of the arrangements.

Elizabeth D. Siler
SILER CITY - Elizabeth "Lib" Davis Siler, 76, of 1324 Pearleman Teague Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at her home.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Loves Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Roy Helms officiating.

She was a native of Bladen County, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and a member of Loves Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are husband, Richard L. Siler of Siler City; son, Billy Siler of Siler City; daughter, Sharyn S. Stevens of Fayetteville; sisters, Della Baxley of St. Paul, Estelle Paschal Dickerson of Durham; brothers, William A. Davis and Carl F. Davis, both of St. Paul; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Bruce G. Baldwin
ROCKINGHAM - Bruce Garrett Baldwin, 48, of 309 Lakeland Drive, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at his home.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pine Rest Cemetery, Robbins.

He was a native of Moore County.

Surviving are wife, Terry Trull Baldwin of the home; son, Matthew Baldwin of Southern Pines; stepdaughter, Blair Barnhardt of Rockingham; stepson, Bradley Barnhardt of Fort Hood, Texas; mother, Ruby Callicutt Baldwin of Robbins; brothers, David Baldwin and Clifton Baldwin, both of Robbins.

Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert H. Cagle Jr.
ASHEBORO - Robert Harold Cagle Jr., 53, of 2893 Christy Circle, Asheboro, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at W.G. Hefner Medical Center, Salisbury.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Tabor Community Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Tim Strider officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County, self-employed in the construction business, and was a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are daughter, Stephanie Cagle of Asheboro; sister, Betty Ann Diffenbach of Virginia; brother, Eugene Cagle of Ramseur; fiancee, Cathy Kidd of Asheboro; half sisters, Elaine Cagle and Sherry Cagle; half brother, Roy Lee Cagle; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

Vicki S. Lambeth
ASHEBORO - Vicki "Jody" Solesbee Lambeth, 53, of 811 Hoover St., Asheboro, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with speaker Andrew Grencer. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and a homemaker.

Surviving are sons, Danny Dunn and Dayton Dunn, both of Asheboro; parents, Garland and Thelma Cole of Asheboro; sisters, Wanda S. Taylor of Greensboro, Jeanette Solesbee and Gwendolyn C. Freeman, both of Asheboro; brothers, James Solesbee of Asheboro, Carson Hurley of Greensboro; four grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home of Jeanette Solesbee, 733 McDermott St., Asheboro.

ASHEBORO - Robert Lee VonCannon, 55, of 731 W. Kivett St., Asheboro, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Ron Terry officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Baptist Church cemetery with military honors.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired from Eveready Battery Co. after 22 years, was a member of Why Not Wesleyan Church and a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Sue Presnell VonCannon; mother, Frances Auman VonCannon of Seagrove; sister, Mary Sue Shirley of Ramseur; brothers, Raeford VonCannon and the Rev. Ralph VonCannon, both of Seagrove.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

GREENSBORO - Jewell Rowe Brennan, 82, of 2522-B Merritt Drive, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Asheboro.

She was a native of Meadows of the Dan, Floyd County, Va., the widow of Arthur C. Rowe Sr. and Eugene V. Brennan, and was a member of First Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons, Clark Rowe of Reidsville, Michael Rowe of Greensboro; brother, Moyer L. Harris of Westerville, Ohio; three grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Randol W. Reynolds
CANDOR - Randol Wade Reynolds, 78, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home, with the Rev. Neal Parsons officiating. Burial will be in Candor Cemetery.

He was a farmer and a member of Concord United Methodist Church.

Surviving are sisters, Tida Culler of Troy, AIberta Smith of Pekin, Betty Hinson of West End.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Saturday.

James D. Kinley
MT. GILEAD - James Dalton Kinley, 66, of 210 Maske Road, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at his home.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. David Kime officiating.

He was a native of Montgomery County and a retired equipment operator for Jacobs Creek Stone Co. of Denton.

Surviving are son, Jamie Kinley of Denton; daughter, Sylvia K. Long of Denton; mother, Ethel Kinley of Mt. Gilead; sister, Sara Liles of Mt. Gilead; one granddaughter.

The family will be at McKeithan Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, 1:30-2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Billy E. Rives
BEAR CREEK - Billy Everett Rives, 67, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Cornerstone Baptist Church, Carbonton, with the Rev. Don Daniels officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, of the Baptist faith, and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Surviving are wife, Cynthia Rives of Bear Creek; son, Rocky Rives of Bear Creek; sisters, Carolyn "Lib" Jones of Bear Creek, Patricia Anne Cantrell of Dunlap, Tenn.; brother, James Rives of Bear Creek; two grandsons.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

ASHEBORO - Carter Parks Buie, 76, of 1916 Levance St., Asheboro, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Edward Tapper officiating. Burial will be in Franklinville U.M.C. cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired from Hatteras Yacht, and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

Surviving are wife, Nancy Higgins Buie of the home; daughters, Beverly Susan Buie of Durham, Barbara Buie Keeler of Greensboro; son, Timothy Parks Buie of Randleman; two grandchildren; one stepgrandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

LlBERTY - Jo Lynn Carter, 42, of 405 Kirkman St., died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Stephen AME Church, where she was a member. Burial will be in St. Stephen Memorial Gardens.

She was a native of Randolph County, a choir member at her church, a graduate of Eastern Randolph High School and of Asheboro Business College, and was an accountant with Randolph Telephone Membership Corp. for 11 years.

Surviving are mother, Mattie Gales Carter of the home; father, William Paul Carter of Liberty; brother, Ritchie Carter of Liberty.

The family will be at the church 30 minutes prior to the service on Sunday.

Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, is in charge of the arrangements.

Lucy B. Sharpe
SILER CITY - Lucy Bullock Sharpe, 80, of 417 E. Raleigh St., died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at SunBridge Care Facilities, Siler City.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Jim Wall and the Rev. Leonard Bullock officiating. Burial will be in Loves Creek Baptist Church cemetery.

She was a native of Guilford County, the widow of Robert Elwood Sharpe and was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving are sons, Robert O. Sharpe of Charlotte, Brian M. Sharpe of Siler City; brothers, Thomas Bullock Jr. of Greensboro, the Rev. Leonard Bullock of Hendersonville; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Naomi D. Williams
THOMASVILLE - Naomi Ruth Dean Williams, 76, of 7097 Reddy Foxx Lane, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at her home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Monday at Original Church of God, Lexington, with the Rev. Pat Eller and the Rev. Edmond Lambeth officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Austinville, Va., and of the Holiness faith.

Surviving are daughters, Peggy Sluss of Asheboro, Ann Harris of Lexington, Janie Parrish of Thomasville, Linda Oast of Yorktown, Va.; son, Roscoe Williams of Thomasville; sister, Hazel Parks of Concord; brother, Henry Dean of Asheboro; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home of Peggy Sluss, 6498 U.S. 64 West, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Tommy R. Kidd Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Montgomery County and was retired from Union Carbide.

Surviving are daughters, Joanne Luck and Carolyn Varner, both of Asheboro; sisters, Pearlie Lloyd and Geneva Garner, both of Asheboro; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday.

RANDLEMAN - Annie Hudson Graves, 99, of 674 Bowers Lane, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Randolph Memorial Park, with the Rev. Jesse Wallace officiating.

She had worked in the cotton mill in Worthville, was a homemaker, and a member of Worthville United Methodist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Nellie Dixon of Randleman; sister, Lonnie Kennedy of Randleman; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of her daughter, 702 Browers Lane, Randleman.

TRINITY - Ora Henderson Barnes, 87, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at GrayBrier Nursing and Retirement Center.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, with Pastor Darryl Love officiating. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery.

She was a native of Iredell County, the widow of Ernest Clayton Barnes, she attended Reavis Memorial Baptist Church and was a graduate of Oxford Orphanage.

Surviving are sons, Ronny Jerry Barnes of Greensboro, Larry Clayton Barnes of Randleman, Steven Carson Barnes of Trinity; daughters, Linda Gaynell Benoit of Gastonia, Rosemary Arlene Deaton of Archdale, Ernestine Marie Younts of Trinity; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Rosemary Deaton, 5323 Johnson St., Archdale.

CLIMAX - Elsworth "Punk" Davis, 78, of 4016 Hackett Lane, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Grays Chapel United Methodist Church, where he was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a farmer and had been employed by Mack Lineberry Lumber Co.

Surviving are wife, Elsie H. Davis of the home; sons, Roger Davis of Julian, Terry Davis, John Davis, Sylvan Davis, all of Climax; seven sisters; three brothers; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
