STAR - James Garrett Saunders, infant son of James A. Saunders and Amanda A. Saunders of 150 Homestead Drive, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Carolinas Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Gospel Light Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry Wayne Lisenby Sr. and the Rev. James Edward Lisenby officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving in addition to the parents are sisters, Emily Saunders, Faith Saunders, Michaela Saunders, all of Star; grandparents, John P. Saunders, Sandra A. Saunders, Emily Arnold Slack, all of Star.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Elizabeth P. Taylor
MT. GILEAD - Elizabeth M. Parsons Taylor, 87, of 700 S. Holden Road, Greensboro, formerly of Mt. Gilead, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Masonic and Eastern Star Home in Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. at Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Mt. Gilead, with Rev. Jim Harris officiating. Burial will be in Sharon Cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of Duncan Parsons, a graduate of Mt. Gilead High School and was a member of the Order of Masonic and Eastern Star

The family will be at the church 10-10:45 a.m. Saturday.

McKeithan Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, is in charge of the arrangements.

BISCOE - Robert Lee Smith Sr., 79, of 401 Lambert Road, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at Autumn Care of Biscoe.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Page Memorial United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Beck officiating. Burial will be in Biscoe Cemetery.

Surviving are son, Robert Lee Smith Jr. of Troy; daughters, Suzanne S. Haywood of Oak Island, Leigh Anne S. Lamonds of Candor; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 10-10:45 a.m. Saturday.

James R. Phillips Jr.
MICRO - James Raeford "Junior" Phillips Jr., 85, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, in Pitt Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Branch Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rudy Owens and the Rev. Kenneth Phillips officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Johnston County and the widower of Drusie Deans Phillips.

Surviving are son, James E. Phillips of Asheboro; daughters, Jean Campbell of Morganton, Brenda Barber and Jo Ann Capps, both of Princeton; brothers, Herman Phillips of Wendell, Carl Phillips of Clayton; sister, Hazel Whitley of Smithfield; 11 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will be at Parrish Funeral Home, Selma, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Vivian E. Woodruff
ROCKY MOUNT - Vivian Eason Woodruff, 75, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Funeral Home, Rocky Mount, with the Rev. Steve Weaver officiating. Burial will be in Pineview Cemetery.

She was a native of Hertford County, the widow of Ernest Woodruff, a member of Parkwood Baptist Church and an Avon Sales Representative.

Surviving are son, Wade Woodruff of Asheboro; sister, Joyce Batts of Williamsburg, Va.; two granddaughters; one great-grandson.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8.30 p.m. Friday.

Johnnie W. Hogan Sr.
SEAGROVE - Johnnie Willis Hogan Sr., 89, of 2764 U.S. 220 North, died Friday, June 8, 2001, at Autumn Care of Biscoe.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Asbury Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bennie Maness and the Rev. Clay Davis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are wife, Mattie Blalock Hogan of the home; son, Willis Hogan of Ether; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

James F. Steed
SEAGROVE - James Franklin Steed, 84, of the Steeds Community, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at Pinehurst Nursing Center, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Elise Presbyterian Church in Robbins, where he was a member, with the Rev. John L. Frye Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Whynot Cemetery, Seagrove, with masonic rites.

He was a native of Montgomery County, the widower of Mildred James Steed, a 1933 graduate of Star High School, owned and operated Steed Furniture in Robbins for 25 years and had been employed in advertising and insurance sales. He was a member of the Oasis Temple, Charlotte, and Elise Lodge #555 AF & AM, Robbins, and had served as an elder in his church.

Surviving are son, Dr. William P. Steed of Advance; daughter, Jane S. Prevette of Virginia Beach, Va.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 6-8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Linda M. Minor
ROBBINS - Linda Marcus Minor, 69, of 583 Brown Mill Road, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Providence Chapel Church, with the Rev. Brady Stephens officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Virginia, retired from Candor Hosiery Co. and was a homemaker.

Surviving are mother, Stella M. Marcus of Robbins; son, Michael Marcus of Robbins; daughter, Deborah Dunn of Biscoe; sister, Bobbie Freeman of Asheboro; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

Rachel F. Muse
CARTHAGE - Rachel Foster Muse, 77, died Friday, June 8, 2001, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Red Branch Baptist Church, with the Rev. D.C. Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in Cross Hill Cemetery in Carthage.

She was a native of Moore County, the widow of Archie B. Muse and retired from Carthage Fabrics Corp. after 30 years.

Surviving are daughter, Gail Pressley of Carthage; sons, Henry Muse of Dallas, Texas, Howard "Shorty" Muse of Lakeview, Frankie Muse of Carthage; sisters, Alma Seawell of Glendon, Mae Dollar of Sanford, Helen Motsinger of West End; brothers, Grady Foster of Raeford, Eugene Foster of West End; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

Hazel S. Pickens
WOODBURY, N.J. - Hazel A. Saylor Pickens, 70, of Woodbury, N.J., died Thursday, June 7, 2001, in Manor Care Rehab Center in West Deptford.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Colonial Manor Methodist Church, Woodbury, N.J. Burial will be in Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro, N.J.

She was retired after 29 years as a telephone operator for Underwood Memorial Hospital in Woodbury.

Surviving are husband, Roy Pickens; sons, Donald Pickens of Asheboro, Lynn Pickens of Woodbury, N.J.; daughter, Elizabeth P. Dromgoole of National Park, N.J.; sister, Jane VanAllman of Tipton, Pa.; brother, Nick Saylor of Florida, Charles Saylor of California; seven grandchildren.

The family will be at McGuinness Funeral Home, Woodbury, N.J., 6:30-9 p.m. Monday and at the church after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Margaret F. Stoer
MENTOR, Ohio - Margaret Ferree Stoer, 83, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at Lake Hospital Systems, Willoughby, Ohio.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Browers Chapel United Methodist Church, Asheboro, with the Rev. Jeff Sypole officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, attended Calvary Baptist Church in Painesville, Ohio, and was formerly employed with Gould Ocean Systems and Euclid Lamp Works in Cleveland, Ohio.

Surviving are husband, David G. Stoer Sr.; daughters, Christine Cardina, Dava Stone, both of Mentor, Ohio; son, David G. Stoer Jr. of Mentor, Ohio; sisters, Mildred Pickett of Asheboro, Mary Louise Sayland, Sylvia Cox, both of Randleman, Carolyn Curton of Fort Worth, Texas; brother, Joe Ferree of Randleman; seven grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 2-3 p.m. Sunday.

John F. Bowman
CLIMAX - John Farrell Bowman, 33, of 6550 Monnett Road, died Friday, June 8, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Mark Andrews and Dr. Forbis Kivett officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Guilford County, a 1985 graduate of Southeast Guilford High School, employed by Bowman Tile Company and was a member of Southeast Hunting Club.

Surviving are daughter, Heather Grace Bowman; parents, Dalton and Louise Bowman; brothers, James P. "Jay" Bowman, Larry Wayne Bowman, both of Climax, Gary Grant Bowman of Greensboro; wife, Candace Carver Bowman of Julian.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home in Liberty 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home of the parents, 6538 Monnett Road, Climax.

James H. Alexander II
CHARLOTTE - James H. Alexander II, 81, of Charlotte, died Saturday, June 9, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Leland K. Stephens officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.

He was a native of Statesville, a 1938 graduate of Statesville High School, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 37 years, and a member of the Ready Sunday School Class.

Surviving are wife, Mary Bulla Alexander; son, James H. Alexander III of Charlotte; daughter, Deborah Larkin of Matthews; sister, Flora Lanier of Lake Norman; two grandchildren; one stepgrandson; one stepgreat-granddaughter.

The family will be at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, Charlotte, 7-9 p.m. Monday,

Harold P. Brenner
ASHEBORO - Harold Phillip Brenner, 92, of 922 S. Church St., Asheboro, died Saturday, June 9, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Dr. John S. Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Newark, N.J., a co-owner of Center Plumbing and Heating Co. for 25 years, and was a member of Local Union 421 United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada for 61 years. He was a member of the Millsaps class of First Baptist Church and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Elise Koth Brenner of the home; son, David Charles Brenner of Charlotte; daughter, Nancy Brenner of Asheboro; two grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Addie M. Shields
HIGH FALLS - Addie Mae Martindale Shields, 76, of High Falls, died Friday, June 8, 2001, at her home.

A private memorial service will be held.

She was the widow of Edgar W. Shields Sr.

Surviving are sons, Ed Shields, Stan Shields, Michael Shields; brother, Larry A. Martindale; four grandchildren.

Yolanda L. Baldwin
ASHEBORO - Yolanda L. Baldwin, 47, of 26-F Kingway Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, June 9, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Greater St. John Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Joseph F. Kearns and Dr. Reuban Gilliam Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvery Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and employed with Arrow International of Asheboro.

Surviving are sisters, Clara B. Leake, Bettie M. Baldwin, Edith Baldwin, Cascile Siler, all of Asheboro, Zina B. Young of Decatur, Ga.

There will be no visitation. Viewing will be 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at C.C. Hodges Funeral Home, Asheboro.

Alma H. Maness
STAR - Alma Haywood Maness, 91, of Alma Drive, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at Autumn Care of Biscoe.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, with the Rev. Jack Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Biscoe Cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of Howard T. Maness and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Elaine Cockman, Frances Higdon, both of Star; sons, Larry Maness of Star, Marshall Maness of Corapolis, Pa.; sister, Hazel Lemonds of Seagrove; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

William W. Allred
ROBBINS - William Woodrow Allred, 87, of 223 Green Road, died Monday, June 11, 2001, in Pinelake Health & Rehab Center, Carthage.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, where he attended, with the Rev. Ray Brooks officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Guilford County and retired from Globe Furniture Industries.

Surviving are wife, Glenna Caviness Allred of the home; daughters, Norma A. Goins of Asheboro, Pauline A. Clark of Augusta, Ga., Rosalie A. Lewis of Sophia; son, Fredrick T. Allred of Havelock; sisters, Ruby A. Robbins of Randleman, Mary A. Cox of Hickory; stepdaughter, Monnie Mae Russell of Robbins; stepsons, Johnny Maness of Asheboro, Billy Maness of Robbins; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; 19 stepgreat-grandchildren; one stepgreat-great-grandchild.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Fall Creek Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Ronnie Chaney and the Rev. Darrell Williams officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Sampson County and was retired from Selig Manufacturing in Siler City.

Surviving are daughter, Brenda Allison of Bennett; sons, Ronnie Cheek of Bennett, Tony Cheek of Siler City; brothers, Everette Currie of Kenley, Bill Currie of Burlington; sisters, Laura Thornton, Donna Sue Marshburn, both of Clinton; stepbrother, Russell Tyner of Garner; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren.

The family will be at Joyce-Brady Funeral Home, Bennett, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Ronnie Cheek, 2400 N.C. 22/42 in Bennett.
