CHARLOTTE - Charlie Franklin Dunn, 63, of 723 Walnute Ave., died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Hamer Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Alex Willoughby and the Rev. Gary Long officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a retired employee of Parks Elevator Co.

Surviving are wife, Ellen Blankenship Dunn of the home; daughter, Tammy D. Ogle of Edgemoor, S.C.; brother, Pete Dunn of Troy; sister, Nancy D. Tedder of Mt. Gilead; two grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 1-2 p.m. Friday, prior to the service.

McKeithan Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, is in charge of the arrangements.

Pauline S. Jenkins
DENVILLE, N.J. - Pauline F. Schwarz Jenkins, 97, died Friday, July 20, 2001, at Continuing Care Pavilian, Dover, N.J.

Funeral service was 11 a.m. Monday at Norman Dean Funeral Home, Denville, N.J. Burial was in Restland Memorial Park, East Hanover, N.J.

She was a native of Queens, N.Y., the widow of Harry B. Jenkins, a member of the Harding Chapter of Eastern Star, and a homemaker.

Surviving are sons, Henry A. Jenkins of Sparta, N.J., Robert E. Jenkins of Asheboro; daughter, Delores Jenkins of New York, N.Y.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.

ASHEBORO - Shaun Christian Freeland, 20, of 449 Glovinia St., Asheboro, died Sunday, July 22, 2001.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Christ Fellowship Ministries.

Surviving are parents, Robert L and Rhonda H. Freeland of Asheboro; sister, Melita Bennett of Candor; brother, Jodie Martin of Asheboro; grandmother, Virginia Eggelston of Greensboro.

The family will be at the church 10 a.m. Thursday.

RANDLEMAN - James Lincoln Dalton, 65, of 306 S. Stout St., died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Carolina Medical Center, Charlotte.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, with the Rev. Junior Dawkins officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park

He was a native of Stuart, Va., and a carpenter.

Surviving are wife, Carol Joyce Dalton of Spotsylvania, Va.; sons, James Dalton Jr. of Randleman, Jimmy Latham of Indiana; daughters, Pam Wilt and Donna Heid, both of Baltimore, Md.; mother, Martha Daniel of Randleman; stepfather, Morgan Daniel of Randleman; brothers, William Dalton, Richard Dalton, both of Randleman, Charles Dalton, Elmo Dalton and Butch Dalton, all of Meadows of Dan, Va.; sisters, Barbara Jean McNeill of Randleman, Linda Gail Flippin, Janet Martin, Jeannie Vincenti, and Almeda Mullins, all of Meadows of Dan, Va.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

DREXEL - Troy E. Johnson, 64, of 1721 Lot #1 Bumgarner Drive, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Drexel Memorial Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Carl Street and the Rev. Gary Garner officiating. Burial will be in Drexel Memorial Park.

He was a native of Catawba County and a retired employee of Valdese Manufacturing Company.

Surviving are wife, Geneva Shuemaker Johnson of the home; daughters, Debra Branch of Valdese, Cynthia Suddreth of Lenoir, Kimberly Beck of Morganton; stepdaughters, Candace Deese of Hickory, Robyn St. Clair of Lenoir, Andrena Edwards of Drexel; brother, Wade Johnson of Asheboro; sister, Iris Allen of Valdese; half brother, Ned Johnson of Morganton; 14 grandchildren.

The family will be at Sossoman Funeral Home, Morganton, 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

ASHEBORO - Mary Smith Bachie, 91, of 156 E. Academy St., #38, Asheboro, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Kindred Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Patterson Grove Christian Church, with the Rev. Dan Neely and the Rev. Junior Dawkins officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Cross Christian Church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, a homemaker, and a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Asheboro.

Surviving are sons, Ronald H. Smith of Ramseur, Robert Lee Smith of Virginia Beach, Va.; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of Ronald D. Smith, 1470 Patterson Grove Road.

Emma B. McAden
RANDLEMAN - Emma Bridgett McAden, 96, formerly of New Salem, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Country Club Rest Home, Randleman.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Providence Friends Meeting, where she was a member, with Orion Smith and the Rev. Raymond Smith officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and had worked at Asheboro Hosiery Mill.

Surviving is brother, Winfred H. McAden of Randleman.

The family will be at the church Friday, one hour prior to the funeral service.

Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, is in charge of the arrangements.

TROY - Letha Coggins Hamilton, 104, of Autumn Care of Biscoe, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Autumn Care of Biscoe.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, with the Rev. Hubert McLeod officiating. Burial will be in Zore Cemetery, Troy.

She was a native of Montgomery County, of the Methodist faith, and a homemaker.

Surviving are son, Nathan S. Hamilton Jr. of Troy; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at 3986 Lovejoy Road, Troy.

Sherwood Simmons
ASH - Sherwood Simmons, 84, of Kingtown Road, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Brunswick Funeral Service, Shallotte, with the Rev. Bill McNeill officiating. Burial will be in Inman Cemetery, Ash.

He was a native of Brunswick County and a retired carpenter and painter.

Surviving are wife, Shirley H. Simmons of Ash; son, Wesley "Woody" Simmons of Ash; daughters, Doris Bazen of Trinity, Maxie Blizard of Asheboro, Mary Clemmons of Supply, Wanda Register of Whiteville; brothers, James Almond "Johnson" Simmons of Nakina, Addison Simmons of Shallotte; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Lloyd W. Baird
ASHEBORO - Lloyd William Baird, 88, of 303 Ross St., Asheboro, died Friday, July 27, 2001, at Wesley Long Community Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Asheboro Friends Meeting, where he was a member, with the Rev. Robert L. Kidd officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Lenoir, the widower of Kate Smith Baird, formerly employed with Acme-McCrary Corporation and a retired taxidermist.

Surviving are son, Rev. Bill Baird of Jamestown; daughter, Nancy Jane B. Lednum of Lexington; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

ASHEBORO - Annabelle West Teague, 81, of Asheboro, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Randolph Memorial Park, with the Rev. Barry Queen officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County and retired from Belk's of Asheboro.

Surviving are son, Kenny Teague of Titusville, Fla.; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-8 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home of Crystal Coldiron, 1417 E. Salisbury St., Asheboro.

DENTON - Mabel Jean Smith McDowell, 47, of 5710 Jackson Creek Road, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at her home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Ray Swaney officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Union UCC Cemetery.

She was a native of Wilmington and employed by Arrow International.

Surviving are husband, Glenn McDowell of the home; son, Michael E. McDowell of Denton; sisters, Shelvia McDowell, Mortie Brooks, Gladys Warren, all of Wilmington; brothers, Jesse Smith, Jimmy Smith, both of Wilmington, Jack Smith of Clinton; two grandsons.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

Thelma D. Staley
SEAGROVE - Thelma Davis Staley, 95, of 5800 Waddells Ferry Road Ext., died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Harold Baker, the Rev. Clay Davis and the Rev. Jeff Moran officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Stokes County and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Frieda Maness and Mary Magdalene Kearns, both of Seagrove, Marie Setliff of Ramseur, Tula Cranford of Gibsonville, Stella Godwin of High Point, Jane Allred of Asheboro; sons, Ralph Staley of Seagrove, Frank Newby Staley of Asheboro; brother, Garland Davis of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; sisters, Earlene Crotts of Lexington, Mabel Kiser, Annie Kate Williams, Juanita Davis, all of Asheboro, Olivera Williams of Randleman; 36 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home of Mary Magdalene Kearns, 5800 Waddells Ferry Road Ext., Seagrove.

J. Walter Nall
ROBBINS - James Walter Nall, 81, of 459 Tommy Road, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Pinelake Health & Rehabilitation Center, Carthage.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, with the Rev. David Murphy officiating. Burial will be in Prosperity Friends Meeting Cemetery, Highfalls.

He was a native of Moore County, a member of Prosperity Friends Meeting, where he had served as an Elder and on the finance committee, and retired from Collins-Aikman Company, Siler City.

Surviving are wife, Bessie Stutts Nall; son, Tommy Nall of Robbins; four grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

Evelyn D. Stevenson
ROBBINS - Evelyn Dunn Stevenson, 58, of 1768 Wilson Road, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Highfalls Wesleyan Church, with the Rev. Roger Riffe officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County and formerly employed at Weiman Furniture, Ramseur.

Surviving are husband, Charles "Billy" Stevenson of the home; daughters, Penny Gordon of Robbins, Pam Campbell of Asheboro; son, Jackie Stevenson of the home; mother, Lillian Dunn of Robbins; brother, Bobby Dunn of Robbins; grandson, Ricky Brown of the home; sisters, Barbara Lamb and Linda Hunt, both Asheboro; stepdaughters, Angela Haynes of Archdale, Gloria Spivey of Cary; stepsons, Scottie Stevenson of Siler City, Chucky Stevenson of Cary; five grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren.

The family will be at Joyce-Brady Funeral Home, Bennett, 6-8 p.m. Saturday.

Vernon L. Brewer
EAGLE SPRINGS - Vernon L. Brewer, 68, of 16319 N.C. 24-27, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at his home.

He was a native of Moore County, a U.S. Army veteran, retired from Springs Industries, and a deacon, trustee, treasurer and Sunday School teacher at his church.

Surviving are wife, Frances Nall Brewer of Eagle Springs; daughters, Wanda Britt of Star, Sherry Brewer of Eagle Springs, Janet Smith of Robbins; son, Craig Brewer of Eagle Springs; sisters, Dorothy Auman of Augusta, Ga., Ruth Kennedy, Marie Chriscoe, both of Seagrove, Betty Sue Garner, Geraldine Frye, both of Robbins, Barbara Kennedy of Star; brother, Joe Brewer of Seagrove; five grandchildren.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

ASHEBORO - Edith Jones Pugh, 73, of 331 Croomcrest Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel Friends Meeting, where she was a member, with the Rev. Terry Kersey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and retired from Eveready Battery Company after 38 years.

Surviving are husband, Odell H. Pugh of Asheboro; daughters, Beverly Martin and Patricia Grey, both of Charlotte; sisters, Maxine Powell of Greensboro, Helen Allen of Surfside Beach, S.C., Nancy Carole Ledbetter of Climax; brothers, Paul Jones of Pleasant Garden, Page Jones of Climax; three grandchildren.
