ASHEBORO - Mary Ellen Pickett Johnson, 70, of 631 W. Balfour Ave., Asheboro, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Randolph Memorial Park, with the Rev. Jeff Lamb officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County and retired from Kayser-Roth Corp.

Surviving are husband, Floyd Owens of the home; son, Marston Johnson of Troy; sisters, Annie Dorsett, Algie Caviness, both of Asheboro; brothers, Pearlman Pickett, Johnny Pickett, both of Asheboro.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times the home of Teresa Phillips, 627 Oakmont Drive, Asheboro.

Levy D. McLaughlin
ASHEBORO - Levy Dell McLaughlin, 95, of 3155 Happy Hollow Road, Asheboro, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Boyd Byerly and the Rev. J. Harold Hammond officiating. Burial will be in Flag Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Custer County, Neb., and retired from Acme-McCrary Corp.

Surviving are wife, Leona Spencer McLaughlin of the home; daughter, Aleta M. Welch of Asheboro; sons, Tolley McLaughlin of Franklinville, Durward McLaughlin, Levy Delton McLaughlin, Kevan McLaughlin, all of Asheboro; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; five great-great- grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

Anna E. Murphy
PLEASANT GARDEN - Anna Mae Edwards Murphy, 81, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, in Maryfield Nursing Home, High Point.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Burial will be in Gilmore Memorial Park, Julian.

She was a native of Guilford County and the widow of Jay Lee Murphy Sr.

Surviving are daughters, Patricia M. Shelton of Thomasville, Kay M. Fuller of Pleasant Garden; son, Johnny L. Murphy Jr. of Greensboro; brothers, A.D. Edwards of Greensboro, Paul Edwards of Climax; sisters, Nellie Coble of Julian, Aileen Jordan of Reidsville, Pearl Bartlette of Gastonia; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of Kay Fuller, 5822 Hagan-Stone Road, Pleasant Garden.

Memorials may be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 56, Climax, N.C. 27233.

Clarence T. Foushee
SILER CITY - Clarence Thomas Foushee, 62, of 895 Gilmore Lodge Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at SunBridge Care Facilities, Siler City.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, with the Rev. Dennis Cook officiating. Burial will be in Rives Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, of the Baptist faith and a self-employed carpenter.

Surviving are sons, Thomas Foushee of Harker Heights, Texas, Kenny "Rat" Foushee of Ramseur, Clarence "Peanut" Foushee of Siler City; daughter, Susie F. Moody of Siler City; father, Maddie Foushee of Siler City; mother, Lillie McDaniel Foushee of Siler City; brothers, Gerald Foushee of Staley, Kenneth Foushee of Siler City; sisters, Faye Dean Stout, Sylvia Brown, both of Siler City, Zelda Lewis of Graham; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of his parents, 895 Gilmore Lodge Road, Siler City.

Etta D. Rojt
TROY - Etta Agnes DuBois Rojt, 84, of 2446 Ophir Road, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at her home.

Memorial service will be held at a later date.

She was a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., a member of Eleazer UMC and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughter, Sue Schiebl of the home; sister, Blanche Marchese of Neversink, N.Y.; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will be at the home.

Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, is in charge of the arrangements.

Fred H. Scott
ROBBINS - Fred Howard Scott, 69, of 2100 Brown's Mill Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Providence Chapel Christian Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Ralph Smith, the Rev. Lonnie Poole and the Rev. Burton King officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors.

He was a native of Guilford County, a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean conflict, and a deacon, choir director, Sunday School teacher and former trustee at his church. He was employed in insurance sales, owned and operated Scott's Laundry & Dry Cleaners, co-owner of Shirley's Fried Chicken in Robbins and retired from Mid-State Plastics, Seagrove.

Surviving are wife, Shirley Brewer Scott; sons, Myron Scott of Bear Creek, Michael Scott and Mark Scott, both of Robbins; mother, Bertha Maness Scott of Robbins; sister, Thelma S. Davis of Carthage; brothers, Joseph F. Scott of Greensboro, James Scott, Robert Scott, David Scott, John Scott and Roy Scott, all of Robbins; six grandchildren.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 6-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

Ophelia H. Doyle
CARTHAGE - Ophelia Hinnant Hales Doyle, 77, of Daisy Hill Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Red Branch Baptist Church, with the Rev. D.C. Sullivan, the Rev. James Hales and the Rev. Darren Hales officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Wake County and the widow of Ronald Hales.

Surviving are husband, David Doyle; daughters, Betty "Kitty" Flowers, Brenda Jones, both of Carthage; sons, the Rev. Welton Hales, Bobby Hales, both of Raleigh, Billy Hales of Wendell; stepdaughter, Debbie Wittman of Indianapolis, Ind.; sister, Lila Mae Temple of Wendell; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 6:30-8 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of Kitty and Eskal Flowers, 204 Daisy Hill Road, Carthage.

ASHEBORO - Louise Lafayette Page Freeman, 90, of SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation, Asheboro, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at SunBridge.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro.

She was a native of Duplin County, a retired Registered Nurse with Dr. Frank Edmondson, a member of First Baptist Church of Asheboro and a member of Asheboro Woman's Club.

Surviving are daughter, Judy F. Brookshire of Mt. Gilead; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

Ella P. Seawell
ASHEBORO - Ella Mae Pugh Seawell, 92, of 1132 Loflin Pond Road, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Edna Riggs officiating. Burial will be in Grays Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, a homemaker and attended Cedar Falls United Methodist Church.

Surviving are son, Harold Seawell of Cedar Falls; daughters, Martha Bowman of Grays Chapel, Anne Thompson of Randleman; stepbrother, Bud Isley of Ramseur; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home of Harold Seawell, 1132 Loflin Pond Road, Asheboro.

Eula P. Morgan
SEAGROVE - Eula Page Morgan, 88, of 1692 Chrisco Road, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Bethel Church of God, where she was a member, with the Rev. Terry Beaver officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Ruth Emery of Spring Lake, Rachel Comer of Seagrove, Edith McCaskill of Jackson Springs, Helen Kennedy of Robbins, Marilyn Auman, Doris Stutts, both of Seagrove; sons, Wayne Morgan, Frankie Morgan, Charlie Morgan, Ernest Morgan, Dallas Morgan, all of Seagrove; sisters, Myrtle Sheffield of Ether, Monnie Allred of Robbins; 32 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

James W. Brooks
SILER CITY - James Worth Brooks, of 109 Ponderosa Road, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Monday at Olivers Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County and a retired truck driver.

Surviving are wife, Pearlie M. Brooks; daughters, Gwendolyn McIntosh and Jacqueline Brooks, both of Staley, Harriet Brooks of Liberty, Ava Williams of Siler City; son, James Brooks of Siler City; stepdaughters, Patricia Williams of Cheverly, Md., Earlene Joyce of Siler City, Alice Williams of Hyattsville, Md., Brenda Tenant, Annette Cheek, Stephanie Farrar, all of Siler City; stepsons, Thurl Williams of Greensboro, Jerell Williams of Siler City; sisters, Nancy Glover of Staley, Faye Frazier of Siler City; brothers, Lacy Brooks of Staley, Franklin Brooks of Liberty; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 20 stepgrandchildren; 34 stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 7-8 p.m. Sunday.

SILER CITY - Pamela Garner George, 39, of 1212 N. Chatham Ave., died Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pentecostal Victory Temple, where she was a member. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Christian Cemetery, Bennett.

She was a native of Carroll County, Ga.

Surviving are daughters, Bridget Lane of Yadkinville, Nicole McCullough, Jessica McCullough, Cameron Garner, all of Siler City; mother, Margaret Garner Rakes of Siler City; stepfather, Rev. Reggie Rakes of Siler City; father, Robert Garner of Cartersville, Ga.; sister, Angela Jefferson of Cartersville, Ga.; two grandchildren.

Maude L. Poe
SILER CITY - Maude Langley Poe, of 900 W. Dolphin St., died Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, at SunBridge Care Facilities, Siler City.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, with the Rev. Leonard Conner officiating. Burial will be in Staley Cemetery, Staley.

She was a native of Randolph County, a member of Staley Wesleyan Church and retired from Staley Hosiery Mill.

Surviving are son, Bill Poe of Siler City; daughters, Alice P. Vickrey of Staley, Ruth Poe of Liberty; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home of the son, 447 W. Perry Road, Siler City.
