Woodrow Wilhoit
CARTHAGE - Woodrow Wilhoit, 87, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at Pinelake Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Carthage, where he was a member, with the Rev. Tom Herndon officiating. Burial will be in Cross Hill Cemetery.

He was a native of Carthage, a reporter for the old Moore County News and now The Pilot, and was a member of The Rotary Club of Carthage, where he had served as a past president and secretary and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a past secretary of the 55 Plus Club, a member of the Carthage Historical Society, was a charter member of the Carthage Jaycees, and in 1990, had the Union Pines High School football stadium named after him.

Surviving are sister, Maxine W. McPherson of Carthage; brother, Dr. Frances "Ike" Wilhoit of Des Moines, Iowa.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

Beulah D. Sullivan
EAGLE SPRINGS - Beulah Davis Sullivan, 74, of 7260 N.C. 705, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at St. Joseph of the Pines in Southern Pines.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Red Branch Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bennie Maness and the Rev. Dr. J. Billy Graham officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Rev. D.C. Sullivan; sons, Phillip Wayne Sullivan of Eagle Springs, Jerry Lane Sullivan of Indian Trail; brother, Bobby Lee Davis of Eagle Springs; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, from 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Red Branch Baptist Church, 1748 Old River Road, Carthage, N.C. 28327.

Dorothy J. Reeder
FAYETTEVILLE - Dorothy Jordan Reeder, 79, of 1601 Purdue Drive, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at the Rehabilitation & Health Care Center at Village Green.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Bethel Church of God in Robbins, with the Rev. Earl Lupo and the Rev. Terry Beaver officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Baptist Church cemetery.

Surviving are son, Keith L. Reeder of Fayetteville; daughter, Aleta Spencer of Jamesville; sister, Frances Reeder of Laurinburg.

The family will be at be at the church following the service.

Highland Funeral Service & Crematory, Fayetteville, is in charge of the arrangements.

Mattie H. Staley

RANDLEMAN - Mattie Hughes Staley, 75, of 5897 Davis Country Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Fred Staley, a member of Cedar Square Friends Meeting and retired from Vesture Corp. in Randleman.

Surviving are daughters, Sandra S. Ramey of Randleman, Martha S. Fruitt of Franklinville; sons, Larry Staley, Harold Staley and Clifford Hughes, all of Randleman; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Linda H. Casteen
TROY - Linda Haywood Casteen, 56, of 638 Eldorado St., died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at New Covenant Church, with the Rev. Dexter Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, a homemaker and attended New Covenant Church.

Surviving are husband, Bobby Casteen of Troy; daughters, Shirley Goins of McCall, S.C., Tabitha Carter of Laurel Hill; sons, Rodney Casteen, Billy Casteen, both of Troy, Tony Casteen of Kings Mountain; brother, Lester Sam Haywood of Wadeville; sister, Leona Hancock of Troy; eight grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at home of Rodney Casteen, 1644 Capelsie Road, Candor.

Anna C. Tart
SOUTHERN PINES - Anna Carter Tart, 73, of St. Joseph of the Pines Nursing Home, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at St. Joseph of the Pines.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday at West End United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ron Detrich officiating. Burial will be in West End Cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County and a secretary.

Surviving are brothers, Roy A. Carter of West End, John T. Carter and Carlton Carter, both of Jackson Springs.

The family will be at the church 2-3 p.m. Friday prior to the service.

Briggs Funeral Home, Candor, is in charge of arrangements.

Wade Snoddy
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Wade Snoddy, 67, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at University Hospital, Aista.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Platt's Funeral Home, Augusta, Ga. Burial will be in Westover Memorial Park.

He was a native of Pilot Mountain, a retired construction superintendent and of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are sons, Monty Snoddy of Augusta, Ga., Kevin Snoddy, Keith Snoddy, Mark Snoddy and Eric Snoddy, all of Evans, Ga.; daughters, Shay Green of St. Simons Island, Ga., Lisa Snoddy and Julia Snoddy, both of Evans, Ga.; brother, Larry Snoddy of Frederick, Md.; sisters, Shirley Garland, Erline Vickory and Betty Wright, all of Liberty, Virginia Hardister of Frederick, Md., Dorothy Staley of Franklinville; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Adolph Chavis
ASHEBORO - Adolph Chavis, 55, of 1339 Indian Wells Loop, Asheboro, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at his home.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Tommy R. Kidd Sr. officiating.

He was a native of Robeson County and formerly employed with Victory Furniture.

Surviving are brother, Willie Lee Chavis of Salisbury; stepdaughters, Cathy Hunt of Asheboro, Ethel Johnson of Greensboro; stepsons, Robert Ray, Roy Ray, both of Asheboro, Eugene Ray of Leland; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Anthony P. Jacobi III
ASHEBORO - Anthony Pierce Jacobi III, 87, of 806B Windermere East, Asheboro, formerly of High Point, died Wednesday, October 10, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, High Point.

He was a native of New York City, N.Y., a graduate of George Washington High School in Manhattan, N.Y., and of the New York Institute of Photography and studied at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, N.Y. He was a World War II veteran and the president of High Point Label Co.

Surviving are wife, Gloria Errante Jacobi; daughters, Deborah J. Devine of Greensboro, Donna J. Miller of Asheboro; brother, Charles A. Jacobi of Albuquerque, N.M.; five grandchildren.

The family will be in the church fellowship hall following the service, other times at the home of Mike and Donna Miller, 375 Lexington Road, Asheboro.

Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, is in charge of arrangements.

Max Y. Moffitt
ASHEBORO - Max Yow Moffitt, 64, of 736 Fairwood Trail, Asheboro, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at his home.

Memorial service will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Howard Moffitt officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, with military honors.

He was a native of Randolph County, a U.S. Army veteran, retired from Lassiter Sportswear, attended Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and was a member of American Legion Post 45.

Surviving are wife, Janey L. Moffitt; sons, Randy Y. Moffitt of Asheboro, Scott Moffitt of Thomasville; mother, Addie Yow Moffitt of Asheboro; sisters, Rose Auman, Elda King, Jan Tolbert, all of Asheboro, Dot Craven of Franklinville; brothers, Jack Moffitt of Seagrove, Rex Moffitt of Asheboro; three grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Travis S. Smith
ASHEBORO - Travis Scott Smith, 28, of 172 Ravenwood Drive, Asheboro, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, with Pastor Jon Shook officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

He was a native of Portsmouth, Va., employed by Merita Bakery and attended Bailey's Grove Church.

Surviving are wife, Angela Roller Smith of Asheboro; mother, Delores Griffey of Sophia; father, Danny Smith of High Point; daughter, Jessica Taylor Smith; son, Jonte` Akins; stepson, Jesse Ray Bryson; sister, Tammy Mabe of Trinity; brother, Danny Smith II of Thomasville; stepbrothers, Roger Griffey of Thomasville, Hank Smith of Winston-Salem, Daniel Smith of Asheboro, Adam Godwin of High Point; stepsisters, Angel Smith of Greensboro, Jenny Matlock of Winston-Salem.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of his mother, 4233 Pheasant Ridge Drive, Sophia.

Michael J. Lawrence
SOPHIA - Michael Jennings Lawrence, 20, of 4875 Branson Davis Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Archdale United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Dr. Mary John Dye officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Guilford County, a 1999 graduate of Randleman High School, where he was a member of the cross country team and an all-conference soccer player, attended East Carolina University, was employed by RGIS Inventory Specialtie, and was a former member of the youth fellowship at his church.

Surviving are parents, Edward and Carolyn Lawrence of the home; sister, Hayley Lawrence of the home; brother, Patrick Lawrence of Greenville; grandparents, Herbert and Edwina Blanton of Clearwater, Fla.

Cumby Funeral Service, Archdale, is in charge of arrangements.

Nannie G. Fields
GOLDSTON - Nannie Gaines Fields, 80, of 1768 Bonlee-Carbonton Road, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at her home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Bear Creek Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Bob Wachs officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County, the widow of Joe Fields and a volunteer at her church and SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Surviving are son, Melvin Fields of Siler City; daughters, Fern Beavers, JoAnn Scott, both of Bear Creek; sister, Gertie Gaines of Goldston; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. J. Harold Hammond and the Rev. Joe Brown officiating.

He was a native of Guilford County, retired from Auman Brothers Feed & Seed, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and attended Russell's Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving are wife, Irene Brown Bell of the home; brother, Max Bell of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

ASHEBORO - Roxie Mae Lunsford Hill, 87, of 153 Poplar St., Bolton, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at Premier Living & Rehabilitation Center, Waccamaw.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro. Burial will be 4 p.m. in Greenhill Cemetery, Asheville.

She was a native of Swain County, the widow of Rev. James Edward Hill, retired from Pinehurst Textiles, a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and attended Bolton Baptist Church in Bolton.

Surviving are daughters, Geraldine Latham of Asheboro, Lynne Hill of Seagrove, Katherine Moore of St. Louis, Mo.; sisters, Bobbie Godwin, Lillian McCorkel, both of Bolton, Cora Lee Calloway, Betty Overcash, both of Charlotte; four grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home of Geraldine Latham, 318 S. High St., Asheboro.

Margery E. Ross
ASHEBORO - Margery Edwards Ross, 84, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at The Presbyterian Home, High Point.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Asheboro.

She was a native of Greensboro, the widow of Arthur Ross Jr., a graduate of Duke University and attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She was a homemaker, a reference librarian with the Randolph County Library, a deacon and elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and a member of the Presbyterian Women at her church.

Surviving are sons, Arthur Ross III of Raleigh, C. Edwards Ross of Brooklyn Heights, N.Y.; daughter, Jeanne R. Patterson of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren.

The family will be at the church following the service.
