ASHEBORO - Khamtanh Chanthadara, 65, of 735 Spencer Ave., Asheboro, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro.

He was a native of Vietaine, Laos, a graduate of a French School in Laos and Law & Business School, a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was a former mayor of the City of Bao-o, Laos.

Surviving are wife, Youphin Chanthadara; daughters, Sammy Ounesivixay, Anan Chanmaly, Thidavanh "Tip" Thompson, all of Asheboro, Souan Chu of High Point; sons, Phonesavanh "John" Chanthadara, Sayanh Chanthadara, both of Asheboro, Keophoangphan Chanthadara of High Point; brothers, Khamphat Chanthadara, Khamvat Chanthadara, both of Laos; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren

The family will be at the funeral home from 1-3 p.m. Saturday.

ASHEBORO - Alma Lucinda Wall Ferguson, 89, formerly of 1097 Burney Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at Autumn Care of Waynesville.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro.

George M. Talley
TROY - George Mark Talley, 58, of 157 Hillcrest Road, New London, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Center United Methodist Church, Blaine, where he was a member, with the Rev. Derald Smith. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Macon County and a self-employed carpenter.

Surviving are daughters, Tina T. Sanders, Pam T. Norman, both of New London; sisters, Jean Guthrie of Washington, Barbara Barnes, Ann Chastain, both of Highlands; brother, Harry Talley of Troy; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

Myrtle L. Greene
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Myrtle L. Greene, 89, of 557 Blount Point Road, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, in Hampton County.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at New Hope Baptist Church in Star, where she was a member, with the Rev. Gene Davis officiating. Burial will be in Dover Baptist Church Cemetery, Seagrove.

She was a native of Star and the widow of Ernest W. Greene.

Surviving are daughter, Terry L. Lamonds of Newport News, Va.; sister, Velma Freeman of Kernersville.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-8 p.m. Tuesday.

BRADENTON, Fla. - Don Scott Burgess, 42, of 2504 34th Ave. West, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at Blake Hospital, Bradenton, Fla.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Ramseur Wesleyan Church, with the Rev. Tommy Smith and the Rev. Roland Cavanaugh officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, employed with Goodson Electric and attended Ramseur Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are wife, Susie Burgess; daughter, Hailee Burgess of Palmetto, Fla.; mother, Eva Scott Burgess of Ramseur; brother, Mike Burgess of Ramseur; sister, Rita Kauder of Navarre Beach, Fla.; stepsons, Nichols and Nathan, both of Palmetto, Fla.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home Ramseur, from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Eva Burgess, 969 Brooklyn Ave. Ext., Ramseur.

PLEASANT GARDEN - Ben John Whitaker, 70, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at McLeansville Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jack Lemons officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park with Masonic rites.

He was a native of Surry County, the widower of Barbara Sells Whitaker, retired operator of Ben Whitaker Trucking Co., a member of Liberty Masonic Lodge 714, where he was past lodge master and attended Asheboro Masonic Lodge 699.

Surviving are daughter, Vickie Whitaker of Pleasant Garden; son, Bobby Whitaker of Pleasant Garden; sister, Kate Schoolfield of Greensboro; brother, Allen Whitaker of Greensboro; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Service, Greensboro, from 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

STAR - Walter Raleigh Poole, 81, of 135 W. Bank St., died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Dover Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Sheppard, the Rev. John Bushell and the Rev. Bruce Dickerson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites.

He was a native of Moore County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and retired from Union Carbide Inc. in Asheboro.

Surviving are sons, Lonnie Poole of Albemarle, Carol L. Poole of Biscoe, Harold R. Poole of Charlotte; daughters, Wilma Freeman, Mary Parsons, both of Star, Kathy Moore of Robbins, Wanda Sechrist of Biscoe; sister, Willie Sheppard of Aberdeen; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, from 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

THOMASVILLE - Carlon Wayne Whack, 65, of 515 Lincoln St., died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Zion Tabernacle F.B.H. Church. Burial will be in Carolina Biblical Gardens, Jamestown.

Surviving are several stepchildren.

The family will be at the church 12:30 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

Curtis G. Smith
AIKEN, S.C. - Curtis "Curt" G. Smith, 43, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at his home.

Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Creek Baptist Church, Aiken, S.C., with Pastor Richard Swift officiating. Burial will be private.

He was a native of Reidsville, a computer programmer/analyst with Saga Software, a graduate of Radford University in Radford, Va., and had attended Cedar Creek Church.

Surviving are brothers, Darryl Smith of Aiken, S.C., Gary Smith of Whiteville; sister, Sherrie Alcon of Asheboro.

The family will be at the church following the service.

George Funeral Homes Inc., Aiken, S.C., is in charge of the arrangements.

Gladys J. Gaines
HARTWELL, Ga. - Gladys Johnson Gaines, 65, of 100 Shirley's Way, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Dwight Eisenhower Medical Center in Augusta, Ga.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Bear Creek Congregational Church, Robbins, with the Rev. J. Ronzell Maness officiating. Burial will be in New Zion Cemetery, Robbins.

She was a native of Robbins, a member of Flat Rock C.M.E. in Hartwell, Ga., where she was a member of the Missionary Society and was a retired school teacher in Bloomfield, N.J.

Surviving are husband, Rev. Florence Gaines of Hartwell, Ga.; daughters, Terri Barrett of Robbins, Pamela Gaines of New Jersey; sisters, Marian Brooks, Laverne Williams, Priscilla Johnson Jones, all of Robbins; brothers, Benmen Johnson of South Hill, Va., Joseph Johnson of Robbins.

The family will be at the home.

Mack's Funeral Home, Hartwell, Ga. is in charge of the arrangements. Person Funeral Home, Robbins, is in charge of local arrangements.

Sara R. Brower
ASHEBORO - Sara Redding Brower, 78, of 912 Kenmore Drive, Asheboro, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at her home.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Central United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. William Christopher Thore and the Rev. Barry Queen officiating.

She was a native of Asheboro, the widow of Frank Brower and a past member of the Administrative Board at her church. She was a delegate to the Annual Conference of the Western North Carolina Methodist Conference in 1982 and 1984, had worked for several years at Randolph Electric Membership Corporation and had worked for 10 years at Asheboro High School.

Surviving are sons, Rev. Neal Brower of High Point, David Brower of Ramseur; daughter, Judy B. Coleman of Asheboro; brother, James Odell Redding of Columbia, Md.; sister, Nancy Lehners of St. Petersburg, Fla.; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-8 p.m. Friday.

Henry E. Garner
ASHEBORO - Henry Eli Garner, 68, of 2221 Westchapel Road, Asheboro, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at West Chapel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lee Roy Hunt and the Rev. Wayne Eller officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired from J. H. Allen Inc., attended West Chapel United Methodist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are wife, Louise Lewis Garner of the home; daughter, Rhonda Leigh Dunn of Asheboro; sons, William Benson Garner, Henry Thomas Garner, Fred Wesley Garner, all of Asheboro; brothers, Joseph Benson Garner and Donald Wesley Garner, both of Asheboro; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

Floyd H. Miller
ASHEBORO - Floyd Herman "Al" Miller, 81, of 1173 Sheridan Drive, Asheboro, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service, with Masonic rites, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. W. Russell Ward Jr. officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date.

He was a native of West New York, N.J., a retired electrician with the West New York school system, a member of First Presbyterian Church, Asheboro, and a former member of Trinity Reformed Church in West New York, N.J., where he served as a deacon. He was a Mason, a member of Asheboro Lodge #699 and a past member of a Masonic Lodge in West New York, N.J.

Surviving are wife, Doris Miller of Asheboro; daughters, Nora Traphofner of Ocklawaha, Fla., Deborah Gilley of Belleview, Fla., Candy Mercer of Beacon, N.Y., Kathleen Vuncannon of Asheboro; sister, Irene Frohlich of Avenel, N.J.; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Everette D. Wyrick
ASHEBORO - Everette Dayle Wyrick, 57, of 776 Tall Pine St., Asheboro, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Tim Huffman officiating. Burial will be in Tom's Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Lexington, formerly employed with Council Craftsman Furniture of Denton, presently employed with Klaussner Plant #3 and of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are wife, Catherine Taylor Wyrick; daughters, Traci W. Perkins, Michelle Wyrick and Crystal Wyrick, all of Asheboro, Cherri Wyrick of New Mexico; sons, J. Michael W. Perkins of Asheboro, Everette Dale Wyrick II of California, Raymond Wyrick of New Mexico; mother, Helen G. Wyrick of Torrence, Calif.; sister, Glenna Clondash of San Pedro, Calif.; six grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

DENTON - Sybil Diane Grover Pelletier, 56, of Potters Landing, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at Thomasville Medical Center, Thomasville.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, with the Rev. Ed Armfield officiating.

She was a native of Portland, Ore., formerly employed as a school bus driver with Vacaville School District in Vacaville, Calif., and had been a member of Christian Life Center in Vacaville.

Surviving are husband, James Pelletier of the home; sons, Jeffrey Allen Pelletier of Youngsville, Thomas James Pelletier of Fremont, Calif.; brother, William Grover of Needham, Ma., Jon Grover of Denton; three grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 1:30-2 p.m. Friday.

CARTHAGE - Elizabeth Harris McDaniel, 101, of Harris Crossroads, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at her home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Fairview Baptist Church, where she was a founding member, with the Rev. Edwin Carroll officiating. Burial will be in the Harris Family Cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, a graduate of Meredith College and also of High Point University, and retired after 42 years as a public school teacher in Robeson and Moore counties.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-8:30 p.m. Friday.

Ruby S. Merritt
ASHEBORO - Ruby Stuart Merritt, 85, of 217 W. Beasley St., Asheboro, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 8 p.m. Saturday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Ed Tapper officiating. Private burial will be at a later date in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of William M. Merritt, retired from Stedman's Outlet Store, attended Calvary United Methodist Church and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are sons, Dr. E. Hollis Merritt of Angola, Ind., Paul Merritt of Newnan, Ga., Douglas S. Merritt of Greensboro; sister, Ola Coward of Ramseur; brothers, Hurley H. Stuart and Jesse M. Stuart, both of Ramseur; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

Hazel L. Loflin
DENTON - Hazel Lanier Loflin, 82, of Eastside Drive, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Mountain Vista Health Park, Denton.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, with the Rev. Chris Smith and the Rev. Mark Blair officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Davidson County, the widow of Eavens Loflin, a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and a retired supervisor with Bisher Mills.

Surviving are stepson, Robert Leon Loflin of Denton; brother, Jessie F. Lanier of Denton; sister, Myrtle Russell of Denton; two stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8 p.m. Friday.

MT. GILEAD - Agnes Dunn Morris, 90, of 2305 N.C. 109 South, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at Forest Oaks Health Care, Albemarle.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Wadeville Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Chris Cadenhead and the Rev. Gary Long officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of John Wesley Dunn and Ashley Morris, and a retired employee of Gilead Manufacturing Corp.

Surviving are sons, Bobby B. Dunn of Mt. Gilead, Billy M. Dunn of Charlotte; stepson, Thomas Morris of Newport News, Va.; sister, Martha Rose Underhill of Wendell; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 1-2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service.

McKeithan Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, is in charge of arrangements.

Daisy M. Hoover
CHARLOTTE - Daisy May Hoover, 99, of 5801 Old Providence Road, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Presbyterian Hospital, Matthews.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Third Presbyterian Church, where she was a member, with Dr. Carl W. Dumford, Dr. Jane Fobel and the Rev. Donnie Hoover officiating.

She was a native of Charlotte, a retired switchboard operator with Associated Transport Co. in Charlotte and a member of the PBX Club of Charlotte.

Surviving are sons, L. Leon Hoover Jr. of Boone, William D. Hoover of Asheboro; daughter, Dolly Windle of Charlotte; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Harry and Bryant Funeral Home, Charlotte, 7-9 p.m. Friday.
