ASHEBORO - Robert Lee Barnett, 57, of Asheboro, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Caraway Friends Meeting, with the Rev. Joseph Peterson officiating.

He was a native of High Point and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Era.

Surviving are son, Christopher Barnett of Sophia; daughter, Traci Lawson of Trinity; stepfather, Claude Pettrey of High Point; sisters, Peggy Rogers of Asheboro, Angela Pollard of Thomasville, Melanie Atkins of High Point; brother, Tim Pettrey; two grandchildren.

Jim Wright Sr.
FRANKLINVILLE - James Riley "Jim" Wright Sr., 79, of 341 Sunrise Ave., died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Randolph Memorial Park, with the Rev. Steve Cox officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County, former employee of the Randolph County Tax Department and of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are son, James Riley "Rocky" Wright Jr. of Franklinville; daughter, Melissa Schwent of Denver, Colo.; brother, Douglas Wright of Ramseur; sister, Mary Lee Young of Asheboro; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

Billy R. Brown
SEAGROVE - Billy Ray Brown, 45, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was native of Randolph County and worked in the lumber industry.

Surviving are sisters, Maxine Gallimore and Dianne Brown, both of Seagrove; brothers, J.C. Brown of Robbins, Mitcheal Brown of Seagrove.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 11 a.m.-noon Monday.

Eugene L. Jenkins
THOMASVILLE - The Rev. Eugene Lassiter Jenkins, 68, of 7167 Tree Hollow Road, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, in Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Full Armor Christian Center in High Point, with the Rev. Danny Graham, the Rev Randy Ingram, the Rev. Stanley Savage and the Rev. Steve Jones officiating. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.

He was a native of Guilford County, a member of the Church of the Living God, where he was a past youth leader and minister, and a former Bishop and a youth director with Church of the Living God Conference.

Surviving are wife, Berta Freeman Jenkins of the home; son, David Jenkins of Trinity; daughters, Pam J. Graham of High Point, Jeanene J. Fitzgerald of Lexington, Faith J. Wilson of Trinity; sister, Betty J. Owen of High Point; brother, William Robert Jenkins Jr. of High Point; five grandchildren.

The family will be at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home, Thomasville, 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

ROBBINS - Marie Cook Allred, 63, of 2774 North N.C. 705, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Clay Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Allred Family Cemetery.

She was a native of Caswell County and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Felton Allred; daughter, Carolyn Hancock of Vass; sons, Curtis Lee Britt and Dwight Dewey Allred, both of Robbins; sisters, Barbara Wray, Mildred Gunell, Lois Turner, Catherine Bean, all of Providence, Martha Riggs of Prospect Hill; brothers, Garland Cook of Providence, Aubrey Cook of Burlington, Richard Cook of Pelham, Silas Cook of Chatham, Va.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at 127 Emily Lane, Robbins.

Joe E. Burrow Jr.
ASHEBORO - Joe Elbert Burrow Jr., 49, of 220 Roosevelt Ave., Elizabethton, Tenn., died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Park Ridge Hospital, Henderson County, N.C.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Carter County, Tenn., and had worked with Acme-McCrary of Asheboro.

Surviving are wife, Betty Jo Burrow of Elizabethton, Tenn.; daughters, Sharon Robertson and Kim Burrow, both of Elizabethton, Tenn., Amy Prudente of Winston-Salem; mother, Helen Burrow of Elizabethton, Tenn.; sisters, Sherry Frye of Carolina Beach, Bonnie Brigman, Ruby Williams and Billie Coltrane, all of Asheboro; brothers, Tommy Burrow, Randy Burrow and Paul Burrow, all of Elizabethton, Tenn., Charlie Burrow of Carolina Beach; four grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home of a sister, 2935 Staley Farm Road, Asheboro.

Greg L. Jenkins
ASHEBORO - Gregory Lee Jenkins, 55, of 949 Mountain Valley Drive, Asheboro, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Sunset Avenue Church of God, where he was a member, with Pastor Boyd Byerly and Pastor Wayne Eller officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a 1969 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Pharmacy School, a co-owner and vice president of Pine Hosiery of Star and a former member of the Reidsville Jaycees.

Surviving are wife, Brenda E. Jenkins; daughter, Lindsey P. Jenkins of the home; grandson, Gregory Caleb Jenkins of the home; brother, Dr. Michael B. Jenkins of Pinehurst; grandmother, Gladys Creech of Clayton.

Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, is in charge of arrangements.

D. Wescott Moser
ASHEBORO - Daniel Wescott Moser, 77, of 1249 Oakmont Drive, Asheboro, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at his home.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with Dr. Boyd Stokes, the Rev. Martha Welch and the Rev. Donald Haynes officiating.

He was a native of Asheboro, a graduate of Asheboro High School and Oak Ridge Military Academy, a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and of the UNC School of Law. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, and retired from the U.S. Army Reserve JAG Corps as a lieutenant colonel. He practiced law in Asheboro, was a member of the N.C. Bar Association where he served on the Board of Governors, as the membership chairman and the founder of the senior division. He was a former member of the Asheboro City Council where he served as Mayor Pro-Tem, a member of the selection committee for the John Motley Morehead Scholarship at UNC, a past member of the board of directors of Randolph Habitat for Humanity and chairman of its site selection committee and a past president of the Asheboro/Randolph Chamber of Commerce. He was a founding member of the Randolph County Zoological Committee of the Chamber to bring the zoo to Randolph County, on the N.C. Zoological Council and a director of the N.C. Zoological Society where he served as vice president, secretary and assistant treasurer.

Surviving are wife, Marjorie Griffin Moser; daughter, Marjorie M. Rankin of Asheboro; three grandchildren.

The family will be at the church immediately following the service.

Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, is in charge of arrangements.

Bobby G. Simpson Sr.
RANDLEMAN - Bobby Gene Simpson Sr., 67, of 102 Holder St., died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Sophia Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Bill Barnes officiating. Burial will be in Marlboro Friends Meeting Cemetery.

He was a native of Lancaster, Ky., retired from Southern Classic in Sophia and a choir member at his church.

Surviving are wife, Linda Kay Wood Simpson; daughter, Teresa McKee of Asheboro; son, Gene Simpson of Asheboro; sisters, Velva Kessler of Louisville, Ky., Marie Wollitz of Goodyear, Ariz., Joy Seiler of Randleman; brother, Mason Simpson of Antelope, Calif.; five grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Charles E. Johnson
SILER CITY - Charles Edward Johnson, 62, of 134 Stage Coach Trail, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at Veteran's Administration Hospital, Durham.

Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, with the Rev. Paul Edwards officiating.

He was a native of Roxboro, a U.S. Navy veteran and an electrician.

Surviving are wife, Betty Harris Johnson of Siler City; father, Henry Edward Johnson of Siler City; sons, Charles Johnson of Raleigh, David Johnson of Chapel Hill; sister, Kathy J. Riseman of Boca Raton, Fla.

The family will be at the funeral home immediately before the service.

Diane M. Armstrong
MT. GILEAD - Diane McKinney Armstrong, 44, of 6026 Pleasant Valley Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at her home.

Funeral service was 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Holiness Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, attended Montgomery County public schools and was formerly employed at Russell Harvell Hosiery Mill.

Surviving are daughters, Sarah M. Cunningham of the home, Stephanie M. Bates of Norfolk, Va.; son, Travis L. McKinney of Mt. Gilead; mother, Emma Jane McKinney of Norwood; sisters, Naomi McKinney of Troy, Betty Bennett of Mt. Gilead; brothers, Raymond McKinney of Shelby, Steve McKinney of Mt. Gilead, James Graham of Troy; three grandchildren.

The family will be at St. Luke Holiness Church 2-3 p.m. Sunday.

Harris Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, is in charge of arrangements.

Maria B. Kirkman
LEXINGTON - Maria Sherwood Beck Kirkman, 91, of Greenway Drive, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, in Lexington Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington, with Dr. Ray Howell III and the Rev. Tommy Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Memorial Park.

She was a native of Davidson County, the widow of A. Victor Kirkman Sr., a graduate of Appalachian State Teachers College, a teacher in Lexington City and Davidson County Schools and a member of First Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, A. Victor Kirkman Jr. of Charlotte; brothers, Jack Beck of Asheboro, Charles Sheffield Beck of Florida; sister, Louise Griggs of Churchland; two grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Monday.

William L. Allred
ASHEBORO - William "Bill" Limon Allred, 78, formerly of Gold Hill Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at the home of his daughter in Asheboro.

There are no services scheduled at this time.

He was a native of Randolph County and a retired cement contractor.

Surviving are daughter, Judy Kearns of Asheboro; sons, Jimmy Allred of Asheboro, Danny Allred of Hillsboro; sister, Zona Stuart of Liberty; brother, John Allred of Asheboro; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, is in charge of arrangements.

Jewell B. Tedder
ASHEBORO - Jewell Canary Beane Tedder, 78, of 5285 Old N.C. 13, Asheboro, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at her home.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Panther Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. John Beane officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County, a homemaker and a member of Panther Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are husband, Resal Tedder of the home; son, Alex Tedder of Asheboro; sisters, Aggie Woodell and Marie Woodell, both of Asheboro, Esther Woodell of Highfalls; three grandchildren; four great-grandsons.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of the son, 5309 Old N.C. 13, Asheboro.

Earl E. Rumbley
RANDLEMAN - Earl Eugene Rumbley, 63, of 803 Midway View Drive, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at Cross Road Retirement Community.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, with the Rev. J. Arnold Luther officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County.

Surviving are mother, Violet Rumbley Hunt of Randleman; brothers, Bobby Rumbley of Franklinville, Ray Rumbley and Johnny Rumbley, both of Asheboro, Donald Rumbley of Randleman; sister, Peggy Gibson of Linden, Va.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8.30 p.m. Monday.

Jeanette H. Chriscoe
SEAGROVE - Linda Jeanette Hayes Chriscoe, 55, of 4262 Fork Creek Mill Road, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Wesleyan Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Larry Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, a farmer, a member of the Tri-County Ruritan Club and a treasurer, Sunday School teacher and interpreter for the hearing impaired at her church.

Surviving are husband, Roy Lee Chriscoe; son, Ched Chriscoe of Seagrove; daughter, Tina Chriscoe of Seagrove; sister, Melba Woodell of Seagrove; brother, Linnie Hayes of Asheboro; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Beulah M. Gibson
TRINITY - Beulah M. Gibson, 77, of 12088 Trinity Road, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, in Vencor Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. James Harris and the Rev. William Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery.

She was a native of Trinity, the widow of Otis Gibson, a member of the Progressive Women's Club and a former member of the Ushers' Board at her church. She was a former employee at Fly Back Co., High Point, and employed with Lillian Leath.

Surviving are son, Robert Gray of Trinity; daughters, Joyce Gibson and Rebecca Thompson, both of Trinity; sisters, Novella Glenn of Greensboro, Mary Rush and Winnell Brannon, both of Trinity; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nephew, Charles Gray, whom she raised.

The family will be at the church 1:30 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

LIBERTY - James Curtis "J.C." Overman, 82, of 3552 Old 421 South, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, with the Rev. Rick Bell officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a member of First Baptist Church, Liberty, and the owner and operator of J.C. Overman Furniture in Liberty.

Surviving are wife, Louise C. Overman of the home; daughter, Carolyn O. Poe of Greensboro; son, Michael Overman of Liberty; sisters, Edith Goins, Bernice Givens, Esther Jones, all of Greensboro, Doris Smith of Liberty, Mary Lou Allred of Asheboro, Fran Austin of Emerald Isle; brother, Kenneth Overman of Liberty; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Hilda M. Petty
SILER CITY - Hilda Grey Moon Petty, 75, of 162 Silk Hope-Liberty Road, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at SunBridge Care Facilities, Siler City.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Plainfield Friends Meeting, where she was a member, with Winfred Crouse and Terry Kersey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County, retired from Glendale Hosiery, a member of the Sunshine Class and the Elaine Payne Missionary Society and a former member of the choir at her church.

Surviving are husband, L.M. Buck Petty Jr. of Siler City; son, Kerry Petty of Siler City; daughters, Kay P. Hinshaw and Joan P. Perry, both of Siler City, Sandra P. Cooper of Snow Camp; sister, Elsie M. Lindley of Pittsboro; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Monday.
