No service is planned.

He was a native of Randolph County and a construction worker.

Surviving are mother, Brenda Joyce Pegram of Asheboro; sister, Linda Sue Pegram of High Point; brother, Charles Cummings of Asheboro.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 4-6 p.m. Thursday.

Iola C. Beasley
SOPHIA - Iola Culler Beasley, 87, of 6860 Flint Hill Road, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, with the Rev. Bill Barnes, the Rev. Jack Tripp and the Rev. Darrell Rabon officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

She was a native of Jamestown, the widow of Moyer P. Beasley, former owner and operator of Beasley Grocery, a member of Cloverdale Baptist Church and attended Sophia Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons, Carl Beasley of Thomasville, Larry Beasley of Archdale, Ronald Beasley and Tim Beasley, both of Sophia; daughters, Barbara Lambeth of Asheboro, Ella Mae Hoosier of Thomasville, Jeanette Norman of Lexington; 25 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Ronald and Janet Beasley, 3494 Beckerdite Road, Sophia.

Daisy F. Hicks
CARTHAGE - Daisy Flinchum Hicks, 89, of 10543 N.C. 24/27, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Terry Burris and the Rev. Eldon Hinegardner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Surry County, the widow of D.J. Hicks and a former employee at Pine Grove Service Center.

Surviving are brother, Tom Flinchum of Carthage; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

ASHEBORO - James Elton Cranford, 84, formerly of Cross Road Rest and Retirement Center, Asheboro, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. D.R. Newsome, the Rev. Ray Swaney and the Rev. Hubert McLeod officiating. Burial will be in the Flint Hill Church of God Cemetery, Troy.

He was a native of Montgomery County, the widower of Irene Cranford, a former employee at Klaussner Furniture and a member of Flint Hill Church of God in Troy.

Surviving are sons, Henry "H.A." Cranford of Climax, Robert Cranford of Havelock, David Cranford, James Cranford, Lonnie Cranford, Roy Cranford, Rex Cranford, all of Asheboro; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home of Lonnie Cranford, 3593 Lassiter Mill Road, Asheboro.

LIBERTY - Ruth Kime Aldridge, 90, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at Cary Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, is in charge of arrangements.

Worth Frye
ASHEBORO - James Worth Frye, 78, of 215 E. Pritchard St., Asheboro, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro. Entombment will be at Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County, worked at Pearl Harbor in the Naval yards during World War II, was owner of National Sewing Machine Co. in Asheboro and Windy's Pancake House in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Surviving are daughter, Dana Faye Frye of New London; brothers, James Wayne Frye of Simi Valley, Calif., Lloyd Frye of Asheboro; sister, Willa Mae Cagle of Asheboro; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

Linda W. Luther
ASHEBORO - Linda Sue Weaver Luther, 52, of 133 Lewis Country Drive, Asheboro, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, at her home.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Tim Fore and the Rev. Neil Poole officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of James Larry Luther and retired from Swatch Works.

Surviving are daughters, Rose Burke of Marion, Va., Frances Spruill of Asheboro; son, James Luther of Asheboro; stepfather, Lewis Ray King Sr. of Asheboro; sisters, Juanita Powers, Marie Millikan, Martha King, all of Asheboro; brothers, Earl King, Lewis King Jr., Daryle King, all of Asheboro, Johnny King of Jacksonville Fla.; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, noon-1:30 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Toby Spruill, 117 Lewis Country Drive, Asheboro.

Robert J. Phillips
ASHEBORO - Robert J. "Bob" Phillips, 54, of 1662 Old Cox Road, Asheboro, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at VA Medical Center, Durham.

Funeral service will be 12:30 p.m. Monday at JFK Chapel, Ft. Bragg, with Dr. John S. Rogers and Col. Paul Vicalvi officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, Spring Lake.

He was a native of Hampton, S.C., a 1969 graduate of Clemson University with a B.S. in forestry, and a 1983 graduate of the University of Puget Sound with an MBA. He was a U.S. Army Special Forces veteran of the Vietnam War, retired as a lieutenant colonel after 25 years and as a member of the Special Forces. He was the JROTC Senior Instructor at Eastern Randolph High School and attended First Baptist Church of Asheboro.

Surviving are wife, Eulalie S. Phillips; sons, David C. Phillips of Chapel Hill, Jonathan R. Phillips of the home; daughter, Jennifer J. Phillips of the home; brother, Arthur C. Phillips Jr. of Anderson, S.C.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Sunday and JFK Chapel, Ft. Bragg, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

RANDLEMAN - Lora Lee Beeson White, 69, of 2660 Forest Park Drive, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. James Robbins, the Rev. Bill Knight and the Rev. Rhonda Levy officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of High Point, worked at Food World and Kmart and was a member of Asheboro Church of Jesus.

Surviving are husband, Belvin T. White of the home; daughters, Beverly Rose Hunt of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Alicia Marie Al-Shemmari of Kuwait, Tracie Leigh Jones of Greensboro, Misty Renee' Markle of Asheboro; sons, Ricky Dean White of High Point, Barry Thurman White of the home; sisters, Edna Wall and Bobbie Hoover, both of High Point; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

LIBERTY - Brenda Sue Langley, 51, of 10180 Old Liberty Road, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, in Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Sunday at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and employed at Wright's Furniture, Staley.

Surviving are husband, Roy Langley of the home; daughter, Pam L. Cummings of Staley; son, Jeff Langley of Liberty; sister, Diane Thompson of Liberty; brother, Raeford Wright of Asheboro; stepfather, Johnny Overman of Liberty; one granddaughter.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

Rosie G. Whitley
DENTON - Rosie Lee Glover Whitley, 68, of N.C. 49 S., New London, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Alleghany United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Dan McClure officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Davidson County and a homemaker.

Surviving are sons, Robin L. Whitley and W. Darrell Whitley, both of Denton; daughters, Jerrel Dean Myers and Wendy W. Romain, both of Denton; brothers, Jesse James Loflin and Junior Loflin, both of Star; sisters, Dorothy Parnell, Joanne Sanders and Shelby McDowell, all of Denton; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6-7:30 p.m. Saturday.

BISCOE - Mary Ina Lamonds Hall, 94, of 611 Samarcand Road, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Eagle Springs United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Don Burns and the Rev. Dawes Graybill officiating. Burial will be in Big Oak Christian Church cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of Carson Fern Hall, a Sunday school teacher at her church and a member of Circle #2 at Bensalem Presbyterian Church. She was a 1925 graduate of Candor High School where she was valedictorian, a graduate of Candor Business College, and a teacher at Green Ridge School.

Surviving are daughters, Lou Ellen Hinson of Biscoe, Doris Comer of Eagle Springs; son, Keith Hall of Biscoe; sisters, Hazel Dawkins and Winnie Maude Bowman, both of Candor; brothers, Alton Lamonds and Robert Lamonds, both of Candor; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Briggs Candor Funeral Home, Candor, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

MT. GILEAD - Carl Christian, 65, of 2266 N.C. 109 S., died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at Stanly Memorial Hospital in Albemarle.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Zion Church, Pee Dee community. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a Richmond County native and was a member of St. Stephens A.M.E Church.

Surviving are wife, Mae Ellen Christian of the home; son, Carson Christian of Troy; daughter, Teresa Scarboro of Troy; sisters, Emma Ruth Leake, Henrietta Thomas, Mary Ann Gould of Mt. Gilead, Mary Ellen Johnson of Biscoe; brothers, Leo Robinson of Rockingham, James Christian of Mt. Gilead; six grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 10-11 a.m. Saturday.

She was a member of Schuyler Baptist Church and the widow of John Dennitt "J.D." Kidd.

Surviving are daughter, Marian K. Auman of Asheboro; son, Bobby S. Kidd of Charlottesville, Va.; sisters, Margaret Marshall of Scottsville, Va., Elsie Hall of Schuyler, Va.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Bertha M. Brown
ASHEBORO - Bertha Mae Brown, 82, formerly of Sophia, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Jack Clark officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County, a graduate of Asheboro High School and employed with the U.S. Government Printing office in Washington, D.C., for 38 years. She was a member of South Plainfield Friends Meeting and a former member of Capitol Hill Metropolitan Baptist Church where she served as a youth director.

Surviving are brothers, Luther Brown, David Brown and Colon Brown, all of Asheboro; sisters, Ruth Ingold and Gladys Herlocker, both of Asheboro, Violet Cox of Sophia.

The family will be at the funeral home noon-1 p.m. Saturday.

He was a native of Knoxville, Tenn., employed with Burlington Industries, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, attended Holly's Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church and a Mason.

Surviving are wife, Agnes Haskins Acuff of Staley; daughters, Suzy Evans of Staley, Connie Miller of Jefferson City, Tenn., Claudia Simpson of Anderson, S.C.; son, Gary Acuff of Knoxville, Tenn.; stepdaughter, Sandra Anderson of Greensboro; stepsons, Freddy Burton of Greensboro, Eddie Burton of Staley; sisters, Vivian McClain, Charlotte Frye, Wilma Lawrence and Mary Davis, all of Knoxville, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
