MT. GILEAD - Janie Steele Williams, 86, of 207 LeGrand Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Stephen A.M.E. Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Allen Warren officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are brother, Monroe Steele Sr. of Mt. Gilead; sisters, Ethel Craig of Chapel Hill, Daisy Vick of High Point, Ruth Baldwin, Beulah McIntyre and Pauline Parker, all of Mt. Gilead.

McKeithan Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, is in charge of arrangements.

Jewell M. Bray
ASHEBORO - Jewell Mae Bray, 83, of 939 Glenwood Road, Asheboro, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Clarence Clough and the Rev. D.R. Newsome officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Chatham County, a homemaker, retired from Pinehurst Textiles and a member of Flint Hill Church of God.

Surviving are daughter, Blanche Luther of the home; brothers, Cleo Bray of Burlington, Jack Bray of Liberty; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

Bertha Y. Millikan
ASHEBORO - Bertha Newell York Millikan, 77, of 2560 Walnut Ridge Road, Randleman, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Don Daniels and the Rev. Barry Wall officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Rockingham, the widow of Clyde J. York Sr., a member of Forest Park Baptist Church and formerly employed with Sapona Mills and JRA Industries.

Surviving are sons, the Rev. C.J. York of Asheboro, the Rev. Danny York of Cherryville; brother, Astor Brady of Asheboro; sisters, Carrie Gray and Lillie Owens, both of Randleman, Viola Miller of Asheboro; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home of the Rev. C.J. York, 419 Old Liberty Road, Asheboro.

RAMSEUR - Willie Dee Tinnin Jr., of 5168 Graves-Thomas Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at McCrary Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Oakland-McCrary Cemetery.

Surviving are father and mother, Willie Dee Tinnin Sr. and Colette Marley Tinnin, both of the home; son, Imari McCullum of Greensboro; daughter, Jessica Baldwin of Asheboro; brothers, Andre` Marley of Asheboro, Jewayne Marley of Fayetteville, Andrew Marley III of the home; sisters, Kim Dark of Siler City, Latoya Marley and Andrea Haithcox, both of the home; grandparents, Odell and Naomi Tinnin of Snow Camp.

The family will be at the church 1-2 p.m. Sunday.

MT. GILEAD - Dorothy Louise Nicholson Christian, 84, of 904 Bruton-Carpenter Road, Wadeville, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, in Sandhill Regional Medical Hospital, Hamlet.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Wadeville A.M.E. Zion Church, Mt. Gilead, where she was member, with the Rev. Dewey Rudisell officiating. Burial will be in Bruton Cemetery.

She was a native of Baltimore, Md., the widow of Arthur Lee Christian Sr. and formerly employed with the Montgomery County Schools.

Surviving are sons, Arthur Lee Christian Jr., Raymond Christian and Louis Christian, all of Mt. Gilead; daughter, Patricia Ann Wall of Norwood; eight grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Harris Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

Tracy Jones
BENNETT - Tracy Jones, 91, formerly of 580 N.C. 22-42, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at the Sunbridge Nursing Home, Siler City.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Bennett Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Tim Strider officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, the retired owner and operator of Jones Poultry and Feed Co. and an oil distributor.

Surviving are wife, Marguerite Phillips Jones of the home; son, Farrell Jones of Pittsboro; daughter, Carolyn Gresham of Albemarle; brother, Wilbert Jones of Bennett; sister, Sue Wilson of Bear Creek; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Carolina Piedmont Chapter, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, N.C. 28215.

Surviving are wife, Karen Hinson Tucker of the home; parents, James O. Tucker and Bertha Tucker, both of Star; son, Jason Tucker of Star; daughter, Stacy Tucker of Candor; brothers, Jimmy Tucker and Rickey L. Tucker, both of Star; stepson, Ronnie Morgan Jr. of Star.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Phoebe L. Adams
DENTON - Phoebe Loretta Adams, 69, formerly of 268 Cedar Springs Road, Lexington, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be noon Monday at Fairview United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Alvin Pope officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Springs Cemetery.

She was a native of Davidson County.

Surviving are husband, Billy Adams of Denton; sons, Steve Adams of Denton, Kevin Adams of High Point and Laurie Adams of Denton; daughter, Alecia Evans of New York; brothers, Hoyt Adams of Thomasville, R.Q. Adams, Kelton Adams and Austin Adams, all of Denton; sisters, Viola Owen, Yvonne Snider and Karen Woods, all of Denton; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 3-5 p.m. Sunday.

ROBBINS - Gladys Hussey Garner Cameron, 81, of 6287 N.C. 705, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001 in Firsthealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Larry Higgins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, a member of the Sunday school class at her church and was retired from Robbins Mills.

Surviving are husband, Joe M. Cameron of the home; son, Larry L. Garner of Charlotte; daughter, Kay Cameron of Wilmington.

The family will be at the church after the service Sunday.

RANDLEMAN - Joan Mabe Epps, 66, formerly of 197 Torch Drive, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at her home.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Fairview Cemetery, Liberty.

She was a native of Rockingham County and was retired from Hadley-Peoples Inc. in Siler City.

Surviving are daughters, Janice Hunt and Doris Thomas, both of Randleman and Marie Godwin of Ramseur; son, Douglas Bailey of Staley; sisters, Isabel Murry of Burlington, Barbara Boone of Siler City and Lula Mae Fogleman of Liberty; brothers, Robert Mabe of Liberty and Maynard Mabe of Staley; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

Evelyn N. Inman
RANDLEMAN - Evelyn Nelson Inman, 82, formerly of 103 Smith St., died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at Asheboro Health and Rehabilitation, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, Randleman, with the Rev. David McCauley officiating. Burial will be in New Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery, Randleman.

She was a native of Randolph County and attended Randleman schools. She was a member of New Salem United Methodist Church and was retired from the hosiery industry.

Surviving are daughter, Billie Inman Routh of Asheboro; grandaughter, Gwen Hayes of the home; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Wilbur M. Phillips
CAMERON - Wilbur M. Phillips, 77, formerly of 328 Lamm's Grove Road, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at HCR Manor Care, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Red Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. D.C. Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in Union Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County and a retired farmer.

Surviving are wife, Betty D. Phillips; daughters, Vicki Klaver of Grand Rapids, Mich., Carrie Davis of Aberdeen, Judy Hearne of Eastwood, Pam Kiser of Cameron, Kathy Collier of Carthage; stepsons, Randy Lankford of Seagrove, Gary Lankford of Carthage, Johnny Lankford of Cameron; sisters, Isabelle Stamets and Verla Whittington, both of Randleman, Vivian Sloan of Broadway, Margaret Baker of Asheboro; brother, Paul Phillips of Cary; 13 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

Bill Carrico Jr.
ASHEBORO - William Randall "Bill" Carrico Jr., 20, of 3484 Fairview Farm Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at his home.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Asheboro, a graduate of Asheboro High School and self-employed in home improvement.

Surviving are parents, Randy and Tammy Carrico of the home; sister, Sarah Elizabeth Carrico of Lexington; stepbrothers, Josh Bowland and Brandon Bowland, both of the home; grandmother, Ruth Williams of Asheboro.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Thomas R. Powers
ASHEBORO - Thomas Randall "Pete" Powers, 79, of 400 Vision Drive, Asheboro, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation of Asheboro.

A private family service will be held.

He was a native of Moore County and a produce salesman.

Surviving are daughters, Mary Hayes of Asheboro, Josephine Cockman of Coleridge; sons, Eli Powers of Coleridge, Jeff Powers, Randall Powers, David Powers, all of Lexington, Tommy Powers of Ramseur; brother, Ralph Powers of Georgia; sisters, Ruth Hussey of Robbins, Carene Yow of Asheboro; 23 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren.

Thad Hardin
RAMSEUR - John Thaddeus "Thad" Hardin, 52, of 5545 Old Siler City Road, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Parks Crossroads Christian Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. James Turner, the Rev. Richard Gray, the Rev. Bill Wingard and the Rev. Dwight Williams officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Knoll Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired from Sprint and a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Surviving are wife, Jean Nelson Hardin of the home; son, John Michael Hardin of the home; daughter, Jillian Leigh Hardin of New Bern; parents, C.T. and Ora Parks Hardin of Ramseur; brothers, Ron Hardin of Greensboro, Joe Hardin of Ramseur, Tom Hardin of Forest Oaks.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

ALBEMARLE - Evye Cranford Hathcock, 91, of 620 Heathwood Drive, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, at Forrest Oakes Healthcare Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle, with the Rev. Ben Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Park.

She was a native of Stanly County, the widow of Edd L. Hathcock, retired from Stanly Memorial Hospital in the dietary department and a member of Central United Methodist Church.

Surviving are sons, Ed Hathcock of Albemarle, Allen Conrad Hathcock of Asheboro; brothers, Hoyle B. Cranford of Elkin, Owen Cranford of Albemarle, Sherrill Cranford of Newton; sisters, Lois C. Parker of Virginia Beach, Va., Grace C. Freund of Denton; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 1-2 p.m. Friday, other times at 1204 Yadkin St., Albemarle.

SOUTHERN PINES - Glenn Albert Dunn, 80, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, at Pinehurst Nursing Center.

He was a retired supervisor at Gulifstan Carpet and a member of West End Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Anna C. Harris of Aberdeen; brother, Bobby Dunn of West End; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Powell Funeral Home, Southern Pines, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Rev. Ray Whittington
RANDLEMAN - Rev. Ray Whittington, 73, of 402 McCollum St., died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, at Wesley Long Community Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at New Salem Baptist Church, formerly Bible Tabernacle Community Church, with the Rev. Fred Tyler and the Rev. Claude Garrett officiating. Burial will be in Whitehall Evangelical Methodist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Surry County and retired from Pickard Fuel Co. in Randleman. He was the minister at Bible Tabernacle Community Church for 27 years.

Surviving are wife, Verla Phillips Whittington of Randleman; daughters, Linda Gail Lanier of Denton, Joyce Marie Whittington of Randleman, Helen Diane Hodge of Sophia; brothers, Leroy Whittington of Pleasant Garden, Bobby Joe Whittington of Randleman; sister, Wilma Sechrest of Randleman; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

She was a native of Chatham County and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Hugh Clark of Bear Creek; sons, Daniel Clark of Bear Creek and Billy Clark of Gulf; brothers, Thecil Martindale of Little Rock, Ark. and Millard Martindale of Siler City; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of her son Daniel Clark at 1857 Henry Oldham Road in Bear Creek.
