RANDLEMAN - Rosa Holder Cranford, 90, formerly of Route 3, Randleman, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, Asheboro.

Funeral service will 2 p.m. Thursday at Midway Wesleyan Church, with the Rev. Donald Dawalt and the Rev. Arnold Luther officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County, attended Midway Wesleyan Church and was retired from J.P. Stevens.

Surviving are daughters, Madie C. McPherson of Climax, Betty Luck, Phyllis Marsh, both of Asheboro; son, Steve Cranford of Climax; 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Madie McPherson, 4516 Racine Road, Climax.

Lala Staley

RAMSEUR - Lala Staley, of 311 Crestwick Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Kimes Funeral Home, Liberty.

Alma P. Poindexter

RAMSEUR - Alma Pilson Poindexter, 82, of 1285 Canoy Farm Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at Mountainview Care Center, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Ramseur, where she was a member, with the Rev. Justus McKeel officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Knoll Cemetery.

She was a native of Surry County, a homemaker and a seamstress.

Surviving are husband, Richard L. Poindexter of the home; son, Gilbert Poindexter of Siler City; daughters, Betty Duggins, Polly Wright, both of Asheboro, Evelyn Thorp of Cedar Falls; brother, Coleman Pilson of Thomasville; sister, Mattie Burge of Sanford; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one stepgrandchild.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Norman L. Brown

CARTHAGE - Norman Leaton Brown, 56, of 141 Firelane Road, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Fred Richardson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County and a farmer.

Surviving are daughter, Angela Brown of the home; sons, Norman Brown Jr. of Asheboro, Maurice Brown, Kenneth Brown, both of Carthage; sisters, Helen B. Blakeley of Charlotte, Amanda B. Williams of Carthage; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Amanda and Jackie Williams, 4862 Old Carthage Road.

Mable H. Davis

BURLINGTON - Mable Holt Davis, 90, of 5545 Mount Hermon-Rock Creek Road, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Hermon United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Rick Moser officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Alamance County, the widow of Romie George Davis, a retired secretary for Pilot Life Insurance, a member of the Golden Nuggets, a former officer of Mount Hermon Community Association, a member of Eureka Home Extension Club, a graduate of Wilson High School and attended Elon College.

Surviving are son, Holt Freeman Davis of Burlington; sister, Lillian Roberson of Graham; brothers, Isaac "June" Holt Jr., Arthur E. "Monk" Holt, both of Graham.

The family will be at Rich & Thompson Funeral Home, Graham, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

George R. Kendrick

WALKERTOWN - George Robert Kendrick, 68, of 4512 Okley St., died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pierce Funeral Home, Kernersville. Burial will be in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory.

He was a native of Bottoms Creek, W.Va., and the widower of Helen Collins Kendrick.

Surviving are daughters, Pat Newton of Asheboro, Cheryl Luther of Denton; son, Michael Kendrick of Asheboro; sister, Hazel Curry of Pine Hall; brother, Harry Kendrick of Raysal, W.Va.; stepdaughter, Lenore Pless of Kernersville; stepson, Curtis Boyles of Walkertown; three grandchildren.

Doug White

KURE BEACH - Douglas White, 70, of 1723 Mackerel Lane, formerly of Asheboro, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Portsmouth, Ohio, the widower of Bertha White, retired head of security of General Motors in Ohio, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and a retired Staff Sgt. in the Air National Guard. He was an Ohio state patrolman, past governor of the Moose Lodge in Asheboro, a Mason, a member of AmVets, the V.F.W., American Legion and was a past Drill Master with the Randolph County Honor Guard.

Surviving are daughters, Judy Little of Kure Beach, Patricia Knepp of Asheboro; sons, Dennis Lee White of Wellston, Ohio, Roger Lambert of Chesapeake, Ohio, Larry Prater of Athens, Tenn., Garry Prater of Asheboro; brothers, the Rev. W. Marion White of Portsmouth, Ohio, Donald White of Port Saint Lucie, Fla., Paul E. White of Minford, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Nora C. Hyler
FRANKLINVILLE - Nora Clark Hyler, 85, of Mountainview Care Center, formerly of Franklinville, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Franklinville Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she was a member, with Dr. Danny Penny, the Rev. Tom Hill and the Rev. Henry Reese officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Rockingham County and retired from Eagles Dime Store.

Surviving are sons, Cecil Hyler of Asheboro, Bobby Hyler of Staley; daughters, Barbara Smith of Franklinville, Mary Brown of Bennett, Elizabeth Woodell of Asheboro; brother, Willie Clark of Burlington; sisters, Gertrude Hyler of Asheboro, Mary Jane Smith of Eden; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Barbara Smith, 574 Pentecostal Church Road, Franklinville.

SEAGROVE - Cynthia Irene Yow, 31, of 7633 Lillie Lane, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at her home.

DENTON - A. Beth Morris, 48, of 12916 N.C. 47, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, at Community General Hospital, Thomasville.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Central United Methodist Church, Denton, with the Rev. Joe Collins officiating. Burial will be in Denton Town Cemetery.

She was a native of Davidson County and formerly employed with Revco Drug Store.

Surviving are daughter, Tina Hogan of Denton; mother, Annie Lee B. Morris of Denton; brother, Roy Lee Morris of Wendell; sisters, Gayle Coley of Winston-Salem, Genie Russell of Denton; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of the mother, 12900 N.C. 47, Denton.

Paul Shank

TROY - Paul Shank, 77, of 1952 Ophir Road, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.

John T. Kern

STAR - John Thomas Kern, 82, formerly of Craven Street, Star, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, at Mountainview Care Center.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Star United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jerry W. Cribb and the Rev. R. Dennis Ricks officiating. Burial will be in Leach Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a retired contractor, a member of Masonic Lodge 718 AF & AM and a Shriner. He was past chairman of Montgomery County Board of Elections, a charter member of Montgomery Community College Board of Trustees and former chief of police for the Town of Star.

Surviving are daughters, Peggy K. Hammond of Star, Linda K. Dunn of Asheboro; sisters, Bertha Cagle of Asheboro, Gertrude Rogers of High Point, Edna Jenkins of Spring Valley, Calif.; brother, Clyde J. Kern of Greensboro; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

HURT, Va. - Emilie Taylor Satterfield, 79, of Jasper Wood Road, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Weatherford Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Gretna, Va., with the Rev. Jack Kivett officiating.

She was a native of Winston-Salem and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are husband, O.B. Satterfield of the home; son, Larry Satterfield of Beaufort, S.C.; daughter, Jo Ann Clay of Asheboro; brother, Buck Taylor of Greenville, N.C.; sister, Margaret Williams of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, Gretna, Va., 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Anissea N. Carranza
Anissea Nelson Carranza, 22, of 401 E. Allred St., Asheboro, died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at N.C. Baptist Hospital, Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Father Joseph Mack officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was employed with Klaussner Furniture Industries.

Surviving are husband, Juan Carranza; son, Giovanni Carranza; parents, Charles and Gwen Nelson of Asheboro.

Nezzie Eller Reed, 87, of 611 N. Main St., Randleman, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998, at Clapps Convalescent Nursing Home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Ron Greene officiating. Burial will be in Mount Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Dorothy W. Foust

RANDLEMAN - Dorothy Imogene White Foust, 69, of 113 Smith St., died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at Vencor Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, with the Rev. David Taylor and the Rev. Don Ashley officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Mount Airy, a former nursing assistant and member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons, Charles R. Lamb, Johnny W. Lamb, both of Smithville, Mo., Al Lee Lamb of Edgerton, Mo., Michael Foust of Sophia, Phillip Foust of Greensboro, Ronnie Foust of Randleman; daughters, Linda Cooke of Greensboro, Regina Welch of Randleman, Susan Strickland of Franklinville; brother, Joe White of Pine Mountain Valley, Ga.; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

BENNETT - Alice Elizabeth Leonard, 81, of 7820 N.C. 22-42, died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

She was a native of Chatham County and retired from Burlington Industries.

Surviving are sons, Jesse Leonard of Bennett, Jack Leonard of Burlington, James Leonard of St. Petersburg, Fla.; daughter, Dorothy Oates of Greensboro; sisters, Margaret Brown of Siler City, Decie Murphy of Thomasville, Evie Light, Minnie Hicks, both of Ramseur; 26 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren.

Roger M. Moses

CAMERON - Roger Macon Moses, 50 of Dalrymple Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at his home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Cameron Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jesse Mansfield officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a Vietnam veteran and a telecommunications engineer with Mid South Consulting Engineers, Charlotte.

Surviving are wife, Sylvia McPherson Moses; daughters, Sarah M. Johnson, Jennifer M. Moses, both of Cameron; parents, Macon L. and Lois Cooper Moses of Cameron.

The family will be at Fry-Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

Betty V. Gordon

MOUNT AIRY - Betty Adaline Via Gordon, 79, of 501 Russell Road, formerly of Dane Street, High Point, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at Northern Surry Hospital.

She was a native of Franklin County, Va., the widow of Calvin Gordon, retired from Laughlin Hosiery Mill, Randleman, and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are son, Doug Gordon of Mount Airy; sisters, Mildred Moore of Lexington, Della Handy of Stanleytown, Va., Minnie Young of Henry, Va.; three grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

She was the last member of the 1921 graduating class of Randleman High School, a charter member of the North Randolph Historical Museum, a member of First United Methodist Church, Randleman, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a court stenographer.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Thursday.
