RAMSEUR - Thyra Kivett Marley, 89, of 181 Elizabeth St., died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Ramseur Wesleyan Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Tommy Smith and the Rev. Roland Cavanaugh officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Wade Marley and a retiree from Burlington Industries.

Surviving are stepdaughter, Melba Marley Brown of Mebane; brother, Taft Kivett of Ramseur; several stepchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

Douglas E. Thompson
GREENSBORO - Douglas E. Thompson, 84, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at his home.

Graveside service will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Guilford Memorial Park.

He was a native of Guilford County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a charter member of Masons Lodge 76.

Surviving is brother, John Clark Thompson of Greensboro.

The family will be at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, Vanstory Street, Greensboro, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home of the brother, 2920 Branderwood Drive, Greensboro.

Richard J. Russell
DENTON - Richard Joe Russell, 58, of King Mountain Road, Asheboro, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at New Hope United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Harold Hammond and the Rev. Claudie Harrison officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County and self-employed in auto sales.

Surviving is mother, Mary Elizabeth Russell Johnson of Denton.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6-8 p.m. Saturday.

Diza G. Hartsell
TROY - Diza Greene Hartsell, 89, formerly of 222 N. Russell St., died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at Raleigh Community Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, with the Rev. Mike Elliott officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughter, Lequita J. Cobb of Raleigh; brothers, Barney C. Greene of Asheboro, Harvey M. Greene of Charlotte; two grandchildren; one great-grandson.

The family will be at the funeral home 12:30-2 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service.

Roy Moore
HAMLET - Roy Moore, 90, of 819 Austin St., formerly of Asheboro, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Fellowship United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Donald Warren officiating. Burial will be in Richmond Memorial Park.

He was a native of Iredell County and a machinist for Rampon Products.

Surviving are wife, Ruth Smith Moore of the home; son, Terry G. Moore of Hamlet; brother, Edgar Moore of Asheboro; sister, Mae M. Greene of Jackson Springs; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Harrington Funeral Home, Hamlet, 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

Ruth E. Jones
ASHEBORO - Ruth Evans Jones, 77, of 2883 Old Stagecoach Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 9 a.m. Monday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. David Roudabush officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Lawrenceville, Va.

She was a native of Hertford County, the widow of R. Stanley Jones, a retired Registered Nurse with Randolph Hospital and a member of Quaker Heights Friends Meeting.

Surviving are son, Robert S. Jones Jr. of Asheboro; daughter, Rose Marie Jones of Leesville, La.; sisters, Thelma Nowell of Suffolk, Va., Mary Ellen Goodwin of Rich Square; brother, Leslie Evans of Ahoskie; three grandchildren; two great- grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Malachi J. Malik
ASHEBORO - Malachi Joel Malik, 2-month-old infant son of Hamid "TJ" Malik and Katherine Franzen Dumont of 2476 Burney Road, Asheboro, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 6 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Steve Ervin officiating.

Surviving in addition to the parents are grandparents, Thomas Gregory and Julia Franzen, both of the home, Tim and Penny Dumont of Hawaii, and Muzaffar and Sabrina Malik and Dave and Jeanette Franzen, all of Oregon.

The family will be at the funeral home 5-6 p.m. Sunday.

Ruby H. Ritter
RAMSEUR - Ruby Hicks Ritter, 75, of 5390 Riverside Road, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Antioch Christian Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Gerald Ward officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, a homemaker and a member of the Women's Missionary Society.

Surviving are sons, Lewis Ritter and Elvin Ritter, both of Ramseur; brother, Fred Hicks of Seagrove; sister, Addie Kiser of Seagrove; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home of Elvin Ritter, 5468 Riverside Road.

Leo Buie
DENTON - Leo Buie, 69, of Chapel Hill Church Road, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Summerville Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Flynn Richardson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Davidson County, a graduate of Denton High School, a retired employee of Terrell Brothers Mfg. Co. and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are wife, Ruth Russell Buie of the home; brothers, Odell "Jake" Buie of Mooresville, Zeb Buie of Fletcher, Luther Buie and Ray Buie, both of Denton; sisters, Elsie Tysinger, Marie Loftin and Rebecca Staley, all of Denton.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

MT. GILEAD - Mark Thomas Sasser, 64, of 784 Chip Road, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Monday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Gary Rutherford officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County and an employee of Capel Inc.

Surviving are wife, Brenda Lewallen Sasser of the home; sons, Conway Sasser of Robbins, Roy Dalton of Troy; brothers, Eugene Sasser and Harold Sasser Sr., both of Troy, Billy J. Sasser of Anchorage, Alaska; sister, Grace Maynor of Troy; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

Bertha S. Wilson
BEAR CREEK - Bertha Southern Wilson, 65, of 16042 N.C. 902, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at her home.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Darrell Garner officiating.

She was a native of Chatham County, a member of Antioch Baptist Church and a secretary with J.P. Stevens Inc.

Surviving are husband, C.D. Wilson of Bear Creek; brother, Bobby Southern of Tampa, Fla.

The family will be at the church one hour prior to service on Tuesday.

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, is in charge of arrangements.

Lula H. Crisco
ALBEMARLE - Lula Hartsell Crisco, 89, of 16055 Reap Road, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at Stanly Manor.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Silver Springs Baptist Church, Norwood, where she was a member, with the Rev. Dennis Helms and the Rev. Langill Watson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Stanly County, the widow of John Truett Crisco and a retired tufting hand with Collins and Aikman in Albemarle.

Surviving are sons, John Keith Crisco of Asheboro, Phillip Wayne Crisco and David Mark Crisco, both of Albemarle; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle, is in charge of arrangements.

Lillie G. Hill
ASHEBORO - Lillie Garner Hill, 92, of 630 Grantville Lane, Asheboro, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at Care View Nursing Home in Snow Camp.

Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Fall Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Ron Terry officiating.

She was a native of Moore County and a homemaker.

Surviving are son, Charles Hill of Ramseur; sister, Irene Jackson of Robbins.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of the son, 2056 Brooklyn Ave., Ramseur.

Estelle B. Tedder
ASHEBORO - Amy Estelle Brewer Tedder, 72, of 5323 Old N.C. 13, Asheboro, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Union Grove Christian Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Gary L. Reeder Sr. and the Rev. Johnny Henderson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, the widow of Fred Tedder and retired from the N.C. Zoo.

Surviving are son, Randy Tedder of Asheboro; stepdaughters, Carrie Lee Hayes of Kannapolis, Lucy Rice of Asheboro; stepsons, Resal Tedder and Raymond Tedder, both of Asheboro; sister, Verlene Auman of Seagrove; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Floyd and Lucy Rice, 5377 Old N.C. 13, Asheboro.

STALEY - The Rev. John C. Gray, 100, of 2559 Olivers Chapel Road, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Olivers Chapel A.M.E. Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are son, John Andrews of the home; daughters, Helen Headen of Staley, Linda Mason of Asheboro, Brenda McAdoo of Greensboro; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at the church 7-8 p.m. Monday night.

Kimes Funeral Service, Liberty, is in charge of arrangements.

Herbert T. Horne
JULIAN - Herbert T. Home, 79, of 5727 Clarence Road, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at his home.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery, Jonesville, S.C.

He was a farmer and a truck driver.

Surviving are wife, Mildred Stehle Horne of the home; daughter, Alice Faye Watson of Greensboro; sons, Walter Eugene Horne of Trinity, Wayne Edwin Horne of Randleman; sisters, Nell Baines and Mildred Littleton, both of Gaffney, S.C., Hattie Turner of Union, S.C., Mandy Lou Garner of Jonesville, S.C.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 6-8 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Robert N. Ingram
DENTON - Robert Nickson Ingram, 98, of Mt. Vista Health Park, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at Mt. Vista Health Park.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, with the Rev. Boyd Stokes and Dr. Charles W. Baker Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Denton Town Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Ruby Kearns Ingram, a member of College Place United Methodist Church in Greensboro and retired owner of Southern Roofing and Asphalt Company. He attended Denton School, graduated from Churchland High School and attended Duke University.

The family will be at the funeral home 10-11 a.m. Tuesday.

Callie H. Luther
THOMASVILLE - Callie Lee Harvel Luther, 90, of Britthaven of Davidson, formerly of Denton Road, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, in the nursing center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Liberty Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Hugh Biggers officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of Hoyt K. Luther, retired from Amazon Cotton Mill with over 20 years of service and a member of the Sunday School class and the choir at her church.

Surviving is daughter, Emma Albright of Thomasville; son, Harold Dean Luther of Thomasville; sisters, Nova Bryant of Thomasville, Mattie Davis of Troy; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home, Thomasville, 6-8 p.m. Monday and also at the church 30 minutes prior to the service on Tuesday.
