CANDOR - R. Edwin Bruton, 51, of 3B Drive, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Parson's Grove United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Peggy Duncan-Wood officiating. Burial will be in Bruton Family Cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County and a self-employed logger.

Surviving are daughters, Julie Deaton of Mt. Gilead, Stephanie Mason of Candor; sons, Robert Lee Bruton and Rory E. Bruton, both of Candor; parents, Robert and Lucille Bruton of Candor; sister, Dottie Robinson of Troy; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home, Candor, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, other times will at the home of the parents, 104 Bruton Drive, Candor.

Viola M. Key
ROBBINS - Viola Moore Key, 82, of 1495 Spies Road, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brown's Chapel Christian Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Gary Stephens and the Rev. Gary Waisner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, the widow of Astor Key and retired from Burlington Industries.

Surviving are sons, Clayton Vernon Key of Greensboro, Marvin Burleigh Key of Laurinburg; daughters, Paulette K. Gillis of Durham, Berlene K. Moore of Robbins; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Opal J. Crabtree
ASHEBORO - Opal Carrie Jones Crabtree, 74, of 5448 Zoo Parkway, Asheboro, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Robert Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of Roslin, Tenn., had worked in the textile industry and was the widow of Wayne R. Crabtree.

Surviving are daughter, Barbara Miller of Asheboro; sisters, Joyce Kerst and Jewell Terrie, both of Jamestown, Tenn., Eunice Hall of Elyria, Ohio; brothers, Charles Beaty and Gene Beaty, both of Jamestown, Tenn., Clay Beaty and Louie Beaty, both of Richmond, Ky.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the residence.

Michael D. Lawrence
ASHEBORO - Michael Douglas Lawrence, 55, of 3429 Old N.C. 13, Asheboro, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

No services are scheduled.

He was a native of Guilford County, served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam, was employed at Hedgecock Builders Supply, was a former co-owner of MRS Mike's Treasures and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1659. He was the widower of Ronda Shaw Lawrence.

Surviving are son, Scott Michael Lawrence of Asheboro.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the residence.

RAMSEUR - Cladie Caviness Cain, 99, of Cross Road Retirement Community, formerly of Ramseur, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at her residence.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Maple Springs United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Richard Wright and the Rev. Vonnie Vredenburg officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, retired from Burlington Industries and the widow of Aldy Cain.

Surviving are daughters, Geneva Hammer, Hazel Gardner, Roberta Baxter and Jeanette Wilson, all of Ramseur, and Ruby Pierce of Asheboro; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Mary Lois R. Wright
RAMSEUR - Mary Lois Rightsell Wright, 79, of 358 Bush St., died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at her residence.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Faith Baptist Church, where she was a charter member, with the Rev. Gary Moser and the Rev. James Turner officiating. Burial will be at Parks Cross Roads Christian Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, retired from Ramtex Manufacturing and served as the organist at Faith Baptist Church.

Surviving are husband, Melvin "Buck" Wright, of the home; son, Ed Chriscoe of Ramseur; daughter, Jennifer Chriscoe Macon of Ramseur; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren.

Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, is in charge of arrangements.

DENTON - Myrtle Lanier Skeen, 92, of 6071 Cornelson Road, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at Asheboro Health and Rehabilitation.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Gravel Hill Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Ron Chaney, the Rev. Claudie Harrison and the Rev. Steve Chipps officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, retired from Holiday Inn and the widow of Luther Skeen.

Surviving are daughters, Dorothy Frye and Margaret Ann Black, both of Asheboro, Delorice Hudson of Denton; sons, Robert Skeen of Denton, Raeford Skeen of Asheboro and Larry Skeen of Denton; sister, Mozzelle Highfill of Asheboro; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Dorothy Frye, 335 Mack Road, Asheboro.

Myrtle C. Davis
STAR - Myrtle Callicutt Davis, 88, formerly of 1055 Spies Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at Autumn Care of Biscoe.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at New Hope Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Gene Davis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County where she was a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Doris Carpenter of Midland and Carol Ann Williams of Level Cross; sister, Virginia Hussey of Robbins; brother, Allen Callicutt of Mt. Jackson, Va.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Stanley E. Farlow
ARCHDALE - Stanley Eugene Farlow, 90, of 7766 U.S. 311, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at his residence.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Marlboro Friends Meeting, where he was a member, with the Rev. John Sides officiating. Interment will follow in the Marlboro Friends Meeting Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a retired dairy farmer and a former member of the New Market Grange.

Surviving are wife, Fadine McDowell of the home; son, Milford C. Farlow of Archdale; daughters, Janice Hockett of Randleman; Shirley Cecil and Wanda Peele, both of High Point; brother, Joe Farlow of Trinity; sisters, Margaret Davis of Randleman and Martha Hodgin of Greensboro; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

ASHEBORO - Joshua Albert Eubanks, 88, of 1302 Old Cox Road, Asheboro, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at Cross Road Retirement Community.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Friendship Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Tommy R. Kidd Sr. and the Rev. Thomas H. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Carteret County and the retired owner and operator of Eubanks Generator and Starter Service Inc.

Surviving are son, Joshua A. Eubanks Jr. of Asheboro; daughter, Ethel Louise Barrow of Grantsboro; sisters, Ellen Dixon and Nina Caraway, both of Newport, Hilda Beachem and Mabel Courtney, both of Beaufort: brothers, Ralph Eubanks of Charlotte and Henry Eubanks of Virginia; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home of Joshua A. Eubanks Jr., 3451 N.C. 134, Asheboro.

BENNETT - William "Alton" Albright, 89, of 3825 N.C. 22, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at Pinlake Health Care in Carthage.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Fall Creek Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Ronnie Chaney officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, a retired fixer at Foremost Yarns in Siler City, a retired poultry and cattle farmer and a former deacon at his church.

Surviving are wife, Maxine Phillips Albright of the home; daughters, Linda Williams of Bonlee, Brenda Sibley of Pinehurst; sons, Lloyd Albright of Bennett, Phillip Albright of Denton; sisters, Blanche Myrick of Bennett, Nettie A. Brady and Josie A. Brady, both of Greensboro; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Joyce-Brady Funeral Home, Bennett, 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Virginia P. Williams
GOLDSBORO - Virginia Potter Williams, 78, of 1117 Saulston Road, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the National Veterans Cemetery in New Bern.

She was a native of Wayne County and a former resident of Havelock.

Surviving are son, Ron Williams of Atlanta, Ga.; daughters, Renee Lee of Goldsboro, Ginger Bonham of Rockledge, Fla.; sisters, Marie Peele and Betty Jean Smith, both of Goldsboro; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Pollock-Best Funerals and Cremations, New Bern, is in charge of arrangements.

Connie C. Harley
ASHEBORO - Connie Cross Harley, 89, of 4150 Cross Creek Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at SunBridge Nursing Home, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Salem United Church of Christ, with the Rev. James A. Curry officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and formerly employed with John Hopkins Hospital.

Surviving are husband, James Harley; sisters, Ruth Pebbles of Lexington, Willa Australia Boykins of Greensboro.

The family will be at the church 30 minutes prior to the service on Thursday.

C.C. Hodges Funeral Service, Asheboro, is in charge of arrangements.

Merita S. Powers
ASHEBORO - Merita Shupe Powers, 56, of SunBridge for Asheboro, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at SunBridge.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Don Newsom and the Rev. Nancy Rakes officiating. Burial will be in Franklinville United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Whythe County, Va., and the widow of Jack W. Powers.

Surviving are son, Allen Powers of Star; daughter, Teresa Allred of Asheboro; brother, Paul Shupe of Asheboro; sisters, Elizabeth Craven of Asheboro, Betty Wagner of Pittsboro; six grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of the daughter, 886 Iron Mountain Road, Asheboro.

ASHEBORO - Medford Craven Shoemaker, 83, of 4038 Buffalo Ford Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Ridge Christian Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Tom Hill officiating.

He was a native of Alexander County, retired from Randolph Mills, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of Pleasant Ridge Christian Church, where he had served as a deacon.

Surviving are wife, Velna Trogdon Shoemaker of the home; daughters, Pam Shoemaker of Ramseur, Penny Shoemaker of Asheboro; brother, Rev. Tommy Shoemaker of Greenville, S.C.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.
