LIBERTY - Joyce Kivett McBride, 82, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at the home of her daughter.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fairview Cemetery, with the Rev. Kelly Toth officiating.

She was a native of Chatham County, the widow of James Franklin McBride and a member of Friendly Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are daughter, Barbara Lowe of Liberty; sisters, Golden Kivett of Siler City, Betty Cox of Coleridge; brothers, Hamuel Kivett of Bennett, Harold Kivett of Siler City; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Kathleen F. Brookshire
LEXINGTON - Kathleen Ford Brookshire, 89, of SunBridge of Lexington, formerly of Salem Street, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at SunBridge.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Piedmont Funeral Home, Lexington, with the Rev. Malcolm Brownlee officiating. Burial will be in Lexington City Cemetery.

She was a native of Davidson County, the widow of Lee W. Brookshire and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughter, Jeannie Morrow of Lexington; sons, James Plott of Asheboro, Tommy Plott and Lee Brookshire Jr., both of Lexington, Jerry Plott of Clemmons; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at 102 Lakewood Drive, Lexington.

Virginia G. Hudson
SILER CITY - Virginia Alice Gibson Hudson, 71, of 121 Hudson Road, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at her home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Loves Creek Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Roy Helms and the Rev. Ed Elliott officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Surry County and a member of the decorating committee, the flower committee and the Women's #1 Sunday School Class at her church.

Surviving are husband, Cletus Hudson of Siler City; daughter, Ginger H. Clark of Siler City; sons, Jeff Hudson of Austin, Texas, Butch Hudson of Siler City; sister; Alta G. Justice of Siler City; four grandchildren

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Sadie H. Phillips
BENNETT - Sadie Hill Phillips, 86, of 674 Clarence Phillips Road, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fall Creek Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Ronnie Chaney and the Rev. Joe Drum officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County, a retired poultry farmer and a member of Adult Ladies # 2 Class and the choir at her church.

Surviving are husband, W. Clarence Phillips of the home; daughters, Shelby Scott and Joyce McNeill, both of Bennett; sons, Odell Phillips and Earl R. Phillips, both of Bear Creek; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at Joyce Brady Funeral Home, Bennett, 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Hannah B. Avelino
ASHEBORO - Hannah Barbara Avelino, the infant daughter of John and Ellen Avelino, of 1823 Hoover Hill Road, Asheboro, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Spoon's Chapel United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Larry W. McEntire officiating.

Surviving, in addition to her parents, are maternal grandparents, Gary and Sylvia King of Asheboro and paternal grandmother, Catherine Tysinger of Ramseur; paternal great-grandparents, Clifton and Vera Mae King and maternal great-grandfather, Jonah Wright, all of Asheboro.

The family will be at the church fellowship hall following the service.

Mildred S. Hughes
DENTON - Mildred Smith Hughes, 78, of Brantley Gordon Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Old Fashion Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. John Leviner officiating. Interment will be at Siloam United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Stokes County, a homemaker and the widow of Raymond L. Hughes.

Surviving are sons, Tony Ray Hughes of Denton, Larry R. Hughes of Thomasville; daughter, Carolyn Jones of Denton; sisters, Nell Proctor of Roanoke, Va., Dorothy Wagner, Rachel Johnston and Clarice Bowers, all of Thomasville; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of the daughter, Carolyn Jones at 571 Tom's Creek Church Road, Denton.

Reggie D. Miller
TROY - Reggie DeLeon Miller, 89, of120 Cross St., died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at Autumn Care of Biscoe.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Wesleyan Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Douglas W. Beadle officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Davidson County and a millwright.

Surviving are wife, Elma Greene Miller, of the home; daughter, Gwendolyn Miller Brock of Charlotte; sisters, Leo Clodfelter and Vay Cole, both of Troy, Margie Gallop of Wanchess; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Troy, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

Michael G. Baldwin
SOPHIA - Michael "Mikie B" George Baldwin, 45, of 4303 Old Marlboro Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Memorial service will be 6 p.m. Saturday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, with the Rev. Bobby G. Edwards officiating.

He was a native of New Bern, attended Asheboro High School and was employed with Hurley Board plumbing.

Surviving are wife, Georgia Smith Baldwin of the home; daughter, Alisa Mae McCrosky of Thomasville; stepson, Scott Kelly Smith of Tampa, Fla.; sisters, Elaine Morgan of Franklinton, La., Agnes Cook and Angelia Baldwin, both of Sophia; brothers, William H. Baldwin Jr. of Ramseur, Jerry Baldwin of Sophia and Stephen Baldwin of Lake Wales, Fla.; two grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home following the memorial service.

Thelma J. Cook
LIBERTY - Thelma Jordan Cook, 91, of 109 E. Swannanoa Ave., died, Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Fairview Cemetery.

She was a native of Florence County, S.C., a member of First Baptist Church and was retired from Gregson Manufacturing.

Surviving are daughter, Billie Cooke of Graham; sister, Marie DeRocco of Winthrop, Mass.; brother, Fred Jordan of Nags Head; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

James R. Greene
ETHER - James Robert "Bob" Greene, 78, of 144 Frame Shop Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Dover Baptist Church in Seagrove, where he was a member, with Dr. Don Davis, the Rev. Lonie Gibson and the Rev. Michael Holyfield officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a World War II Army veteran and was a retired fixer with Klopman Mills.

Surviving are his wife, Carrie Blackwell Greene of the home; daughters, Linda Lamonds of Star, Cathy Russell of Monroe; brothers, Clyde Greene of Star, Carl Greene of Asheboro; sisters, Odessa Mabe and Carolyn Davis, both of Star, Patricia Johnson of Rural Hall, Evelyn Allred of Norman; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

John Tinkler
CLIFFSIDE - John Tinkler, 95, of N.C. 221-A, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home, Cliffside, with the Rev. Anthony Moore, the Rev. Morris Byers and the Rev. Ben Steele officiating. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Mountain View Cemetery in Seneca, S.C.

He was a native of Greenwood County, S.C., a graduate of Erskine College, taught math at Cliffside School and was retired from Cone Mills in Cliffside. He was a World War II Army veteran, a member of the American Legion, Cliffside Masonic Lodge and Cliffside United Methodist Church.

Surviving are wife, Gladys Kelly Tinkler of the home; son, John Bruce Tinkler of Asheboro; one granddaughter.

The family will be at the funeral home 1:30-2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Joseph F. Wall
COLUMBIA - Joseph Franklin Wall, 79, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002.

Service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Wall is the widower of Nanette Broom Wall. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the former owner of Joe Wall's Phillips 66 Station on Sumter Highway.

Surviving are brothers, S. Dewey Wall of Graham, E. Wayne Wall of High Point, R. Earl Wall of Asheboro and Edward Wall of Franklinville.

Visitation will be prior to the service from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Nellie G. Edwards
ASHEBORO - Nellie Lee Green Edwards, 84, formerly of Union Church Road, died Feb. 28, 2002, at Mountain Vista Health Park in Denton.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Oakhurst Baptist Church, where she was a member, with Dr. Richard Crider officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of Davidson County, a seamstress and previously taught sewing at Randolph Community College. She was the widow of Livingston E. Edwards.

Surviving are daughters, Priscilla McElroy of Lexington, Claudia Sink Griffin of Summerfield, Susan Ledbetter of Midlothian, Va.; sisters, Edith Cable and Doris Miller, both of Wallburg; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two great stepgrandchildren.

The family will be at Oakhurst Baptist Church 1:30-2:45 p.m. Sunday, and at the home of Zella Bartenfield, 801 Sherwood Road, Asheboro 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, is in charge of arrangements.

DENTON - Kendall Wayne Miller, 14, of 684 Gallimore Road, died Friday, March 1, 2002, at Thomasville Medical Center.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Mountain View Memorial Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Moses and the Rev. Don Ledbetter officiating.

He was a native of Davidson County and attended Denton Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are parents, Jay and Stella Miller of the home; sisters, Brandy Leigh Miller and Chasity Annette Miller, both of the home.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 1-2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Inez M. Kirkman
FRANKLINVILLE - Inez Moon Kirkman, 69, of 1268 Academy St., died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Franklinville, where she was a member, with the Rev. Steve Cox officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and was retired from Hancock Ham Co.

Surviving are Ed Kirkman, of the home; son, W.A. "Ace" Kirkman of Greensboro; daughters, Lorraine Routh of Franklinville; brothers, Frank Moon of Franklinville; sisters, Frances Kirkman of Franklinville and Peggy Bowman of Asheboro; three grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; one stepgreat-grandchild.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the residence.

ARCHDALE - James Albert Bunting, 86, resident of 400 Westbrook Court, died Friday, March 1, 2002, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Green Street Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Gene Phillips and the Rev. Neal Brower officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a member of Woodmen of the World and was employed with Ilderton Dodge Company.

Surviving are wife, Kathleen Manley Bunting of the home; daughters, Kay Curtis of Archdale, Barbara Breedlove of Winston-Salem and Gayle Sullivan of Tennessee; sisters, Ila Hamilton of Asheboro and Venia Young of Lexington; brother, Raeford Bunting of Seagrove; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday, other times at the residence.

Elton Lowe
SILER CITY - Elton "Red" Lowe, 82, of 2599 South Second Ave., died Friday, March 1, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, with Chaplin Jan Clark officiating. Burial will be in Loves Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County and a retired auto mechanic.

Surviving are wife, Margaret Eulla Lowe of Siler City; son, Gary Elton Lowe of Siler City; daughters, Faye Stout and Sue Cooper, both of Siler City; brothers, Junius Lowe of Siler City, Bobby Lowe and Bill Lowe, both of Bear Creek; sisters, Verlie Brady and Betty Phillips, both of Siler City and Jean Murray of High Falls; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Saturday.
