ASHEBORO - Esther Leland Harper Owens of 230 E. Presnell St., Asheboro, died Monday, March 4, 2002, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation.

Graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Oaklawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Adrian Pugh officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of J. Van Owens, a homemaker and a member of Fayetteville Street Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Leland Harvell of Surfside Beach, S.C.; two granddaughters; three great-grandsons.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, noon-1:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Rebecca M. Pack
ASHEBORO - Rebecca Elaine Moore Pack, 55, of 143 Trogdon Pond Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, March 3, 2002, at the home.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Robert "Bobby" Pack and an employee of Black & Decker Corp.

Surviving are daughters, Peggy P. Hayes of Asheboro, Bobbie Jo Anne Pack of Biscoe, Wendy P. York of Liberty; mother, Allie Hill Moore of Asheboro; brothers, Larry Moore of Andrews, S.C., Brent Moore of Ramseur; sisters, Brenda "Sally" Moore of Asheboro, Debbie Milliner of Asheboro; three grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

ASHEBORO - James Hillian Presnell, 74, of 1233 Randolph Tabernacle Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, March 3, 2002, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Asheboro Pentecostal Holiness Church, with Pastor J.C. Miles and the Rev. James Ward officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

A native of Randolph County, he retired from the maintenance department at Randolph Community College and attended Asheboro Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Surviving are wife, Viola Frazier Presnell; daughter, Christine Thornburg of Asheboro; son, Jimmy Wayne Presnell of Asheboro; stepdaughters, Maureen Kilby of Asheboro, Cynthia Routh of Climax, Linda Jordan of Sophia, Anita Davis of Greensboro; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

ASHEBORO - Joseph "Joe" Herman Shofe, 73, of 614 Brady Ave., Asheboro, died Monday, March 4, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. David C. Noyes officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Guilford County, the widower of Winona Hill Shofe and a retiree from S.E. Trogdon & Sons.

Surviving are sisters, Nellie Cox of Wilmington, Shirley Carrick and Mary Maness, both of Star, Georgia Dunn of Troy; brothers, Harvey Shofe of Star, Charlie Shofe of Wilmington.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

RAMSEUR - Fleta York McGee, 85, of 949 Coleridge Road, died Monday, March 4, 2002, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation for Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with Dr. Charles Fleshman, the Rev. Justus McKeel and the Rev. Gene Booker officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Knoll Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Frances McGee of the home, Patty McGuire of Ramseur; sons, John William McGee, Robert Wayne McGee, and Ira Mac McGee, all of Ramseur; half brother, Donald York of Ramseur; sister, Bessie Stout of Ramseur; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Patty McGuire, 952 Coleridge Road, Ramseur.

Genevieve P. Robinson
MT. GILEAD - Genevieve "Genny" Pyatte Robinson, 74, of 122 E. Ingram St., died Monday, March 4, 2002, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Chris Cadenhead officiating. Burial will be in Sharon Cemetery.

She was a native of McDowell County and retired from the Montgomery County Schools.

Surviving are husband, Robert Wade "Bob" Robinson Sr. of the home; son, Robert W. Robinson Jr. of Chapel Hill; daughters, Kathy R. Batchelor of Wilson, Melinda R. Crenshaw of Charlotte; brother, Glenn Pyatte of Marion; sisters, Louise P. Smith of Hickory, Evelyn P. Blackwelder of Mt. Ulla; five grandchildren.

The family will be at the home.

BISCOE - Issac Chase Newsom, infant son of Eric Alan Newsom and Susan Lee Gibson Newsom of 614 Aileen Ave., died Sunday, March 3, 2002, at Carolinas Medical Center.

Graveside service will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Leach Cemetery, Star, with the Rev. David Mills officiating.

Surviving in addition to the parents are sister, Erica Lee Newsom of the home; brothers, Joshua Alan Newsom and Jeremy Ryan Newsom, both of the home; grandparents, Della Ernestine Newsom, Joe Stanley Newsom; great-grandmother, Essie Newsom of Star.

Phillips Funeral Home, Star, is in charge of arrangements.

ROBBINS - Shelton Brown, 77, of 3803 N.C. 705, died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Brown's Chapel Christian Church, with the Rev. David Bibey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, a member of Crossroads Community Church, Carthage, and a retired sawmill logger.

Surviving are wife, Burtie Campbell Brown of the home; daughters, Linda Ann Greene of Star, Libby B. Markham of Robbins; sister, Kathleen B. Vest of Robbins; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Libby Markham, 3935 N.C. 705, Robbins.

Lenzie L. Dowd
ROBBINS - Lenzie Lincoln Dowd, 81, of 3392 N.C. 705, died Sunday, March 3, 2002, at the VA Medical Center, Fayetteville.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Bear Creek Congregation Church, with the Rev. John R. Rudd officiating. Burial will be in New Zion Cemetery.

He was a World War II veteran and a Bronze Star recipient.

Surviving is brother, George Dowd of Fayetteville.

The family will be at Person Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-8 p.m. Friday.

Jay W. Gallimore
ASHEBORO - Jay William Gallimore, 71, of 328 Sunset Drive North, Asheboro, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Dr. Boyd Stokes officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Davidson County, the widower of Evelyn "Dot" Gallimore, a graduate of Farmer High School, a retired worker from Eveready Battery Co., a member of Piney Grove United Methodist Church and attended First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are sons, Darrell Gallimore and Steve Gallimore, both of Greensboro, Dennis Gallimore of Asheboro; sisters, Faye Gallimore of Thomasville, Betty Davis of Hickory, Joyce Gallimore of Jackson Creek, Glenda Scott of Greensboro; brothers, Ned Gallimore of Denton, Raymond Gallimore of Jackson Creek, Sherman Gallimore of Roanoke, Va.; two grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

He was a native of Randolph County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a retired worker from Randolph Electric Membership where he was a cost accountant, a member of the Sunshine Club and the Senior Choir at his church and a church singing teacher.

Surviving are wife, Linnie Brown Ward; daughters, Angie Pate of Plano, Texas, Betha Goodyear of Greensboro; five grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Joe Hicks officiating.

She was a native of Alamance County.

Surviving are stepdaughters, Bonnie Fogleman and Bobbie Brower, both of Liberty, Daphne Simmons of San Diego, Calif.; stepson, B.Q. Johnson of Asheboro; nephew, Lahoma Garrett of the home.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-8 p.m. Thursday.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Little River United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Max Wood and the Rev. Ben Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Blackwood Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Richmond County, a graduate of Ellerbe High School, a member of the shoebox ministry at her church, an employee of Gilead Manufacturing Co. for 25 years and co-owner/operator of Bowles Texaco.

Surviving are husband, Alvin Charlie Bowles of the home; son, Roger Bowles of Mt. Gilead; brothers, John Calvin "Jim" Webb of Ellerbe, Henry Lavern Webb of Rockingham; sisters, Annie Mae Martin and Mary Grace Norton, both of Ellerbe; three grandchildren.

She was a native of Asheboro, a homemaker and a former member of First E & R United Church of Christ.

Surviving are husband, David Lee Hinshaw of Asheboro; daughter, Jennifer Brower Auman of Asheboro; son, Roger Cleve Nichols of the home; brothers, Vernon Councilman of Asheboro, Larry Councilman of Mexico City, Mexico; sister, Brenda Britt of Asheboro; two grandchildren.

He was a native of Randolph County and a retired worker from the N.C. Department of Transportation.

Sanders, both of Seagrove, Kelly Sanders of Conway, S.C.; two grandchildren.
