Mt. GILEAD - Clyde Daniel Robinson Sr., 94, of 118 E. Ingram St., died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Bill Turnmire and the Rev. David Kime officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a retired worker from the timber business and a former deacon at Calvary Baptist Church.

Surviving are wife, Elma Robinson of Autumn Care of Biscoe; sons, Billy Robinson of Laurinburg, Jimmie Robinson of Jamestown, Larry Robinson of Mt. Gilead; daughter, Kay Martin of Mt. Gilead; brothers, Robert Wade Robinson and Charlie Reid Robinson, both of Mt. Gilead; sisters, Addie Belle Haywood and Daisy James, both of Mt. Gilead and Pauline Greene of Robbins; five grandchildren.

The family will be at Edwards Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

John T. Gaines Jr.
SILER CITY - John Thomas "Johnny" Gaines Jr., 63, of 137 Oren Gaines Road, Goldston, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Antioch Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Darrell Williams and the Rev. Don Daniel officiating. Burial will be at Gaines Grove Cemetery in Goldston.

He was a native of Chatham County, a U.S. Army veteran, a retired saw mill operator and the former owner/operator of Gaines' Grill.

Surviving are wife, Lucy Wright Gaines of Goldston; daughter, Cindy G. Pijpers of Sanford; son, Stephen Lee Gaines of Goldston; sisters, Louise G. McLaughlin, Ella G. Brower, Frankie G. Bridges and Betty G. Stone, all of Siler City; brother, Oren Gaines of Goldston, Fred T. Gaines, Alton Gaines and Bill Gaines, all of Siler City; one grandson.

The family will be at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of his son, Steve Gaines, 137 Oren Gaines Road, Goldston.

Ed B. Bruton
CANDOR - Ed Burt Bruton, 77, of N.C. 211 East, died Monday, March 11, 2002, at his residence.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Candor United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Hill Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Candor Cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, managed the family farm in Candor and propagated a vineyard three miles east of Candor.

Surviving are wife, Betty Lou Sharpe Bruton; daughters, Dr. Betty Lou Bradley of Elizabethtown and Sue Evelyn Davis of Southern Pines; sons, Ed Burt Bruton Jr. of Miami, Fla., and William Sharpe Bruton of Candor; sisters, Evelyn B. Monroe of Pinehurst; brothers, Col. Earl Dudley Bruton Jr. of Greenville and Dr. H. David Bruton of Southern Pines; six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the residence. Mr. Bruton will remain at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home for viewing until 8 p.m. Wednesday.

AUSTINVILLE, Va. - Elder James Lewis "Junior" Pierce, 57, of Austinville, Va., died Monday, March 11, 2002, at his residence.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Reese Funeral Home, Austinville, Va., with Elder Jeff O'Dell and Elder Don Stacy officiating. Interment will be at Bethany Cemetery in Poplar Camp, Va.

He was a native of Trinity, a member and moderator of Sandy Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Asheboro and co-moderator of Mitchell River Primitive Baptist Church in Booneville.

Surviving are wife, Sharlene Davis Rice Pierce; stepsons, Lawrence and Jason Rice, both of Austinville, Va.; brothers, Howard and Roy Pierce, both of Trinity.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Thursday, other times at the residence.

ASHEBORO - Verdie Alice Auman Freeman, 86, of 3418 U.S. 220 South, Asheboro, died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Dr. Richard Crider officiating. Burial will be in Center Cross Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County,a retired office manager and bookkeeper for Southern Motor & Equipment Company and a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church.

Surviving are husband, Frank Freeman; daughter, Mary Frances Senger of Greensboro; son, Paul Freeman of Asheboro; sisters, Annie Belle Strider of Asheville and Lucille Freeman of Asheboro; brother, Kenneth Auman of Ramseur; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday.

She was a native of Montgomery County and a homemaker.

TROY - Cora Ledbetter Livingston, 98, of 114 Wade Avenue, Troy, died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Long Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry Beaver and the Rev. Johnny Morton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Richmond County, a member of Long Hill Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Doris L. Mauldin of Troy and Pauline Menius of Concord; sons, Sherman Livingston of Troy and Billy Ray Livingston of Candor; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren.

MT. GILEAD - Paul Robinson Jr., 60, of 3111 Pleasant Valley Road, died Friday, March 8, 2002, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. B.M. Harris and the Rev. Roosevelt Wall officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a former resident of New Jersey and a former employee of P.A.F. Tools of New Jersey.

Surviving are daughters, Gayle Pemberton of Candor, Meredeth McLaren of York, Pa., Paula Robinson of Miami, Fla., Rhenotha Whitaker of New Jersey; son, Paul "Andy" Robinson of Atlanta, Ga.; sisters, Mary Miller of Mt. Gilead, Jeanette Jacobs of Charlotte, Nellie Traylor of Charleston, S.C., Sally Robinson of High Point and Ellen Robinson of Newark, N.J.; brothers, Harold Robinson of Plainfield, N.J., Parnell Robinson of Mt. Gilead, Jimmie Robinson of Newark, N.J., Hennan Robinson of New Haven, Conn., and Herbert Robinson of Bowie, Md.; one grandson.

Public viewing will be 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday at Harris Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead. The family will be at the residence.

CAMERON - Sallie H. Thompson, 92, died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at St. Joseph Health Care in Southern Pines.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Lamm's Grove Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder Kenneth Hopkins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Union County and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Martha Harrington, Gracie Harrington and Laura Denny, all of Sanford, Alice Rosser of Carthage and Ruby Hendrick of Cameron; sons, Elder Calvin Harward of Sanford and Daniel Harward of Cameron; sisters, Cleva Horton of Polkton and Thelma Williamson of Wadesboro; stepdaughter, Margaret Craft of Erwin; stepson, Marvin Thompson of Chesapeake, Va.; 21 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

DACULA, Ga. - John L. Griffin, 58, of Dacula, Ga., died Monday, March 11, 2002, at Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, Ga.

Funeral service was 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Billy Beard officiating. Interment was in Hamilton Mill Memorial Gardens.

He was a native of Guilford County, a former employee of AP Ward Consulting, a member of RCI, RRO and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dacula.

Surviving are wife, Glenda Griffin of Dacula, Ga.; son, John "Scott" Griffin of Milledgeville, Ga; daughter, Amy G. Beardslee of Suwanee, Ga; mother, Gladys "Pat" W. Griffin of Kernersville; father, Charles M. Griffin of Benton, Ark.; brother, James M. Griffin of Kernersville; three grandchildren.

The family was at Hamilton Mill Funeral Home, Buford, Ga., 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Willard B. Vuncannon
ASHEBORO - Willard Burr Vuncannon, 85, of 2808 N.C. 134, Asheboro, died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Rushwood Park Wesleyan Church, where he attended, with Dr. Ron Hamilton and the Rev. Wayne Vuncannon officiating. Burial will be in Huldah Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired worker from Union Carbide.

Surviving are wife, Carrie Graves Vuncannon; son, Charles Edward Vuncannon of Great Falls, Mont.; brother, Worth Voncannon of Asheboro; sister, Lydia Miller of Asheboro; two grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

Pauline C. Dollar
ASHEBORO - Pauline Chambers Dollar, 76, of 745 of Caspn St., Asheboro, died Friday, March 15, 2002, at her home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Church of God of Prophecy, where she was a member, with Bishop Barney Trogdon officiating. Burial will be at Markham Memorial Gardens in Durham.

She was a native of Durham and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughter, Ceila Chambers of Asheboro and her husband, Samuel Dollar of the home; three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service on Sunday.

Larry R. Idol Sr.
RANDLEMAN - Larry Ray Idol Sr., 61, of 190 New Salem Road, died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park with military honors.

A native of Guilford County, he attended White Hall Evangelical Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and co-owner of A-1 Builders, where he also was a carpenter.

Surviving are wife, Edna Staley Idol of Randleman; sons, Larry Ray Idol Jr. of Burlington, John Idol of Randleman, Keith Edwards of Burlington; stepsons, Patrick Broughton and Clay Broughton, both of Randleman; stepdaughter, Tracie Owen of Randleman; sisters, Donna Braswell of High Point, Erla Rickles of Walnut Cove, Linda Garrett of Floyd, Va., and Sandra Sigmon of High Point; brothers, Edsel Idol, B.C. Idol, George Idol and Dwight Idol, all of High Point; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

He was a native of Surry County, a U.S. Army veteran, a retired employee of Marsh Furniture Co. and the widower of Annie McCain. He was a former member of Boy Scouts of America, a volunteer driver for the Randolph County Department of Social Service and a member of the Deacon Board, the Male Chorus and Chairman of the Finance Committee at Harshaw Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughters, Shirley Dawson of Early Branch, S.C., and Anita S. Hoskins of Randleman; son, Willie Leland Smith of Troy; sister, Dorothy Bartley of Pleasant Garden; brother, Howard Smith of Mt. Airy; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson.

The family will be at the church 2 p.m. Monday, other times at the residence.

Haizlip Funeral Rome, High Point, is in charge of arrangements.

COLERIDGE - Thomas Lee "Tommy" McNeill, 63, of 4005 Riverside Road, died Friday, March 15, 2002, at his residence.

He was a native of Moore County, a National Guard veteran, a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Union Grove Baptist Church, a retired worker from Georgia Pacific and a former employee with Townsend Food.

Surviving are wife, Irene Brown McNeill of the home; son, Jeff McNeill of Asheboro; daughter, Tracey Luck of Asheboro; brothers, Allen McNeill and Charles McNeill, both of Asheboro, Harold McNeill, of Lexington and Leon McNeill, of New London; sister, Elizabeth Hussey of Summerfield; two grandsons.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. at Clarksbury United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. C. Darrin Everhart and the Rev. Carroll M. Upton officiating. Interment will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.

She was a native of Davidson County, a retired worker from Dogwood Hosiery, the widow of Troy Freeman and a member of the Emma Lambeth Sunday School Class, the Bible Study Class and the Senior Citizens Meeting Class.

Surviving are four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Wayne County, a member of Yelverton United Methodist Church and the owner and operator of Gay's Beauty Salon, where she was a beautician.

Surviving are mother, Winnie B. Peek of Panama City, Fla.; husband, Glenn Mewborn; daughters, Debbie Mewborn Hames of Asheboro and Pam Smith of Goldsboro; sister, Dusty Faye Kosco of Panama City, Fla.; one granddaughter.

FALCON - Virginia Dare Edwards Holland, 79, died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Cromartie Miller and Lee Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jay Winston and the Rev. Ken Day officiating. Burial will be at Level Cross United Methodist Church Cemetery in Randleman.

She was a native of Cumberland County, the widow of the late Luther Floyd Holland and a forme employee with Burlington Industries and the Star Villa Nursing Home.

Surviving are sisters, Dorothy C. Lawrence and Eloise Edwards Murphy, both of Fayetteville.

The family will be at Cromartie-Miller and Lee Funeral Home, Dunn, 10-11 a.m. Saturday.
