Ronald David Long, 51, of 811 Fox Fire Road, Asheboro, died Friday, May 29, 1998, at his residence.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Franklinville Cemetery with the Rev. Glenn Sauls officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County, a Vietnam War veteran and formerly employed by Faith Construction Co.

Surviving are sons, Ronnie Long and Bryan Long, both of Asheboro; daughter, Rhonda Brown of Asheboro; brothers, Tim Goodin and Larry Long, both of Asheboro; sisters, Doris Hinshaw of Siler City and Thelma Regan of Burlington; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home Ramseur 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Shelly C. Cook

FRANKLINVILLE - Shelly Calvin Cook, 84, of 2079 Whites Memorial Church Road, died Saturday, May 30, 1998, at his residence.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Whites Memorial Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Pete Lamb and Rev. Jeff Joyce officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired from Jordan Spinning, a poultry farmer and a carpenter.

Surviving are wife, Cleora Webster Cook; brother, Albert Cook of Franklinville; sister, Ethel Carter of Asheboro.

Loflin Funeral Home Ramseur is in charge of arrangements.

Mable H. Gilmore

JULIAN - Mable H. Gilmore, 78, died Monday, May 11, 1998, at Pelicare Nursing Facility.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Julian United Methodist Church.

Loflin Funeral Home in Liberty is in charge of arrangements.

Elsie R. Gresham

RALEIGH - Elsie Robinson Gresham, 82, formerly of Asheboro, died Saturday, May 30, 1998.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro.

Surviving are sons, Bill Robinson of Asheboro and Charles Robinson of Charlotte; daughters, Cathy Robinson Williams of Raleigh and Betsy Robinson Harris of Chapel Hill.

Verlie B. Johnson

PITTSBORO - Verlie Barnhill Johnson, 79, formerly of 141 Hillside Dairy Road, died Thursday, May 28, 1998, at County Forest Manor in Siler City.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Hickory Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Don Hayes officiating.

She was a native of Columbus County, a homemaker and a member of Hickory Mountain Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, Mike Johnson of Pittsboro; brothers, Boyd Barnhill of Evergreen and Dock Barnhill of Chadbourn; sister, Hannie Bullard of Whiteville; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the home of Mike Johnson, 141 Hillside Dairy Road, Pittsboro.

Smith and Buckner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ronald G. Saunders

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. - Ronald Grayson Saunders, 41, died Sunday, May 17, 1998.

Graveside services were held May 22 at Skyway Memorial Gardens. A memorial service was held May 23 at Soul's Harbor Church of God, where he was a member.

Surviving are wife, Amy Saunders; sons, Ronald J. Saunders and Robert Saunders of Bradenton, Fla.; mother, Sue Saunders of Randleman; sister, Patti Michaels of Norcross, Ga.

Maurine Thompson

LIBERTY - Maurine Thompson, 82, of 1849 Fogleman Trail, died Friday, May 29, 1998, at Country Forest Manor in Siler City.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Hill Christian Church Cemetery with the Rev. Howard Spray officiating.

She was a native of Alamance County, retired from Spencer-Love Hosiery in Burlington and was a member of Pleasant Hill Christian Church.

Surviving are sisters, Dora Johnson and Kathleen Bailey, both of Liberty.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home in Liberty 1-2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Elsie R. Gresham

Elsie Robinson Gresham, 82, of Raleigh, formerly of Asheboro, died Saturday, May 30, 1998, at Intergrated Health Services of Raleigh.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, Asheboro, where she was a member, with the Rev. Michael Jordan and Dr. Phillip Shore Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of Johnston County and the widow of both Thomas Jefferson Robinson Sr. and Harry Randolph Gresham. She was a member of a Circle and of the Jubilees, a Sunday School teacher and involved with Cub Scouts at her church. She was a member of the Asheboro Junior Women's Club, a charter member of the Randolph Rose Society where she held numerous offices and chairman of the Randolph Rose Show several times. She was a graduate of Rex Hospital School Nursing and was a registered nurse for 52 years, mostly at Randolph Hospital.

Surviving are sons, Bill Robinson of Asheboro, Charlie Robinson of Charlotte; daughters, Kathy Robinson Williams of Raleigh, Betsy Robinson Harris of Chapel Hill; five grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of son, Bill Robinson, 424 Redding Road.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 224 N. Fayetteville St., Asheboro, N.C. 27203.

SEAGROVE - Luther Charles Cagle, 61, of 136 W. Main St., died Sunday, May 31, 1998, at Vencor Hospital, Greensboro.

CARY - Betty McCloskey Burt, 58, of 109 Keithwood Lane, died Saturday, May 30, 1998, at her home.

A private family graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Biscoe Cemetery, with the Rev. Larry Wilson officiating.

She was a registered nurse for 37 years, mostly at Rex Hospital, Raleigh.

Surviving are husband, Ed Burt of the home; daughter, Kate Munday of Pittsboro; brother, Charles McCloskey of Broomall, Pa.; sister, Mary Jane Santosusso of Springfield, Pa.; stepsons, Andy Burt, Wes Burt, both of Cary.

The family will be at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Cary, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Phillips Funeral Home, Star, is in charge of the local arrangements.

Valerie L. Raines

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. - Valerie L. Raines, 80, died Saturday, May 30, 1998.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Congaree Baptist Church, Congaree, S.C., where she was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Richland County and was the widow of James Ray Raines Sr.

Surviving are daughter, Barbara Raines of South Congaree, S.C.; son, James Ray "Buddy" Raines Jr. of South Congaree, S.C.

The family will be at Thompson Funeral Home, West Columbia, S.C., 6-8 p.m. Monday.

William Edward Venable, 80, of 1403 Winslow Ave., Asheboro, died Monday, June 1, 1998, at Dorothea Dix Hospital, Raleigh.

Hubert V. Henderson Sr., 66, of 511 Uwharrie St., Asheboro, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Surviving are wife, Rebecca Latham Cagle of the home; daughter, Dana C. Cagle of the home; sons, Luther Charles Cagle II of Asheboro, Chris J. Cagle of Seagrove, Benji M. Cagle of the home; mother, Voilla Slack Cagle of Seagrove; sister, Glenna Lee Fountain of Asheboro; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

RANDLEMAN - Angel Branson Darrity, infant son of Chad Branson and Angela Marie Depolo Darrity of 713 Bowers Lane, died Sunday, May 31, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

A graveside service will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Worthville Cemetery.

Surviving in addition to the parents are brother, Noah Ray Darrity of the home; grandparents, Tammy Hill of Sophia, Ernest Darrity of Randleman, Donald Depolo of Pelzer, S.C., Trudy Depolo of Belton, S.C.; great-grandparents, Nellie Dixon of Randleman, Shelby Williams of Sophia, August and Klara Deighters of Belton, S.C.; great-great-grandmother, Annie Graves of Randleman.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 10-11 a.m. Wednesday.

TRINITY - Bernice Hoyle Moody, 83, of GrayBrier Nursing Home, died Monday, June 1, 1998.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Floral Garden Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Doyle Crane officiating.

She was a native of Jackson County, the widow of Claude V. Moody, was employed with Grant Hosiery for 20 years and was a member of Straightway Baptist Church, High Point.

Surviving are daughters, Geneva Smith, Geraldine Langston, Brenda Call, all of High Point, Reva Ammons of Randleman; sons, Weaver Moody of Lake Tillery, Gerald Moody of Trinity, Kenneth Moody of Asheboro, Winston Moody of Flower Mound, Texas; sisters, Mildred Watson, Faye Watson, Belle Watson, Barbara Henry, all of Cullowhee, Lois Hensley of Waynesville; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Chatham County, a retired owner-operator of Johnson Brothers Sawmill, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and he attended Center United Methodist Church.

Surviving are wife, Effie J. Johnson; daughter, Susan J. Jones of Pittsboro; brothers, Casey Johnson of Siler City, Victor Johnson of Pittsboro; sisters, Ruby Fulk of Greensboro, Vivian Scott of Siler City; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

McGrew of Florence, S.C.; sons, Garland Edward Venable, Douglas Gregory Venable, both of Randleman; sister, Versie Marsh of Carthage; brothers, Wesley Venable of Sanford, Charlie Venable of Langley, S.C.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
