TROY - Lawrence Asbury Burrow Sr., 75, of 302 Lilly St., died Thursday, May 23, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Wesleyan Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Douglas Beadle and the Rev. Wayne Preuz officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, employed with Lankford Security, a retired insurance salesman, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Troy Lions Club.

Surviving are wife, Loreene P. Burrow of the home; sons, Ron Burrow of Burlington, Darrell Burrow of Raleigh, Larry Burrow of the home; brother, Clarence Burrow of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First Wesleyan Church Building Fund, 1368 N.C. 134 North, Troy, N.C. 27371.

ASHEBORO - Eugenia Pike Miller, 91, of 643 Browers Chapel Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, M0ay 25, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro with the Rev. Bonnie Preston Harris officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County, retired from Central Telephone Company and a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher.

Surviving are husband, Elmer J. Miller of the home; daughter, Betty Miller of the home; brother, George F. Pike of Staley; sisters, Eula Beane of Siler City, Elizabeth Hudson of Guilford College, Anna Belle Cheek, Evangeline Byrd, both of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 12:30-2 p.m. Monday.

ASHEBORO - Jane Philalack, 19, of 208 Hughes St., Asheboro, died Thursday, May 23, 2002, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be noon Sunday, June 2, at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro.

She was a native of Santa Ana, Calif., and attended Asheboro High School.

Surviving are mother and stepfather, Saythong Philalack and Ronnarong Laoochan of Asheboro; father, Banlay Philalack of Garden Grove, Calif.; sisters, Elizabeth Chanopensiri of Garden Grove, Calif., Susie Jones of Mt. Airy, Patti Tempaseat of Orange County, Calif., Bea Ray of Asheboro; grandmother, Sujittia Laoochan of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 5-9 p.m. Saturday, June 1, other times at the home.

ASHEBORO - Cecil Hampton "Hamp" Kirkman, 73, of 1958 Caraway Drive, Asheboro, died Saturday, May 25, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro will the Rev. Charles Trout and the Rev. Dan Neely officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Guilford County, retired from McNeil Home Improvement and formerly employed with Troy Hacket Building.

Surviving are wife, Mary Keller Kirkman; mother, Maggie Yow Kirkman of Ramseur; daughter, Cynthia K. McNally of Oak Island; son, Keith Kirkman of Burlington; stepdaughter, Pamela M. Haywood of Mt. Gilead; brother, Bob Kirkman of Snow Camp; sisters, Helen Benner, Elizabeth Deaton, Clara Patterson, all of Ramseur, Mary Jennings of Liberty; two grandchildren; one stepgrandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

SEAGROVE - Shelton Lemuel Graves, 83, of 148 W. King St., died Saturday, May 25, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Seagrove United Church of Christ, where he was a member, with the Rev. Robert C. Boyd and the Rev. Dolan A. Talbert officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Seagrove, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and retired from Luck's Inc.

Surviving are wife, Thelma Ruth L. Graves; daughter, Suzanne Lamb of Seagrove; sister, Vada Royall of High Point; one grandson.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro 6-8 p.m. Sunday.

Edward L. Tilley
RANDLEMAN - Edward Lawrence Tilley, 49, of 6309 Kerry Lane, Ocean Isle Beach, formerly of Randleman, died Friday, May 24, 2002, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation, Siler City.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Guilford County, a member of First Baptist Church, Randleman, a Semi-pro golfer and employed at Golf Shoe Warehouse in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Surviving are parents, Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Clifford Tilley of Randleman; sister, Lynne Marley of Siler City.

The family will receive friends at the home of the parents, 281 Two Pond Drive, Randleman.

SILER CITY - Sterling C. Wright, 90, of 105 N. Garden Ave. died Friday, May 24, 2002, at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at West End United Methodist Church, Siler City, where he was a member, with the Rev. Roger Thompson and the Rev. Warren Owens officiating.

He was a native of Chatham County, the widower of Mary Elizabeth Wright and a self-employed painter.

Surviving are daughters, Mary Liller Morgan, Shirley Jean Wilson, both of Siler City; brother, Glenn Wright of Liberty; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Mildred P. Womble
GOLDSTON - Mildred P. Womble, 61, of 1770 St. Luke Church Road, died, Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at Triangle Hospice at the Meadows.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Gees Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Allan Moore officiating.

She was a native of Chatham County and an employee of Glendale Hosiery.

Surviving are sons, Tracy Womble of Tallahassee, Fla., Derrick Womble of Washington, D.C.; daughter, Nakia Fox of Goldston; sisters, Flora Mae Siler of Siler City, Sadie Wheeler of Washington, D.C., Sharon Price of Suitland, Md.; brothers, Dee Price Jr. of Washington, D.C., Henry Joe Price, Grady Price, both of Warren, Ohio, Kenneth Price of Antioc, Calif.; 10 grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 5-7 p.m. Sunday.

Farrar Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Roy L. Marion
CARTHAGE - Roy Leonard Marion, 60, died Friday, May 24, 2002, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Memorial service will be 3 p.m. at Red Branch Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Donald Swinney and the Rev. D.C. Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a retired conductor from CSX Railroad. He served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and Sunday School Superintendent at his church.

Surviving are wife, Edna Underwood Marion; sons, Roy Randall Marion of Creedmoor, John Patrick Marion of Carthage; mother, Helen Cooper Marion Wolfe of Carthage; sister, Pam Darnell of Seagrove; brother, Bill Marion of Carthage; five grandchildren.

The family will be at the home, 116 McCrimmon Road, Carthage.

MT. GILEAD - Ralph Dalton Deaton, 61, of Mt. Gilead, died Friday, May 24, 2002, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital in Troy.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Hammer Creek Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Alex Willoughby and the Rev. Eddie Jarvis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Quincy, Fla., and was retired from Gilead Manufacturing.

Surviving are sons, Michael Deaton, Jeffrey Deaton, both of Mt. Gilead, Matthew Deaton of Hendersonville; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Thompson of Albemarle; sister, Linda M. Jackson of Gold Hill; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Earl M. Haywood
MT. GILEAD - Earl Manley Haywood, 90, of 395 Calvary Church Road, died Saturday, May 25, 2002, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital in Troy.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Bill Turmire and the Rev. David Kime officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Mt. Gilead.

Surviving are wife, Sadie Mae Blake Haywood of the home; sons, LeLand Haywood of Charlotte, Ronald Haywood of Huntersville; brother, Elbert Haywood of Troy; sister, Elma Robinson of Mt. Gilead; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Edwards Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

ASHEBORO - Viola Barneycastle Turner, 79, formerly of 1428 Winslow Ave., Asheboro, died Saturday, May 25, 2002, at Asheboro Health and Rehabilitation.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Dr. John Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Mecklenburg County, the widow of J. Ed Turner, a member of First Baptist Church and retired from Acme-McCrary Corp.

Surviving are son, Joseph E. Turner of Asheboro; sister, Christine M. Spoon of Mebane; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Monday.

ASHEBORO - Lillian King Tysor, 91, formerly of Asheboro, died Saturday, May 25, 2002, at Providence Northeast Hospital in Columbia, S.C.

She was a native of Randolph County, the retired manager of Donna Lee Loflin Elementary School Cafeteria and a member of Central United Methodist Church.

Surviving are daughters, Joanne T. Haywood of Columbia, S.C., Linda T. Dorsett of Advance; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Moore County, the widower of Emma Tillman Marley and Frances Anderson Marley, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and played Semi-pro baseball. He worked at Riverside Country Club and was a retired loom fixer.

Surviving are wife, Betty Marley of Greensboro; son, Dewey L. "Lindy" Marley Jr. of Greensboro; daughter, Jennie Frye of Newport News, Va.; stepson, Terry Anderson of Greenville, S.C.; stepdaughter, Cheri Johnson of Pine Mt., Ga.; sister, Mabel Farabee of Greensboro; six grandchildren; one stepgrandson; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Joyce-Brady Funeral Home, Bennett 6-7:30 p.m. Monday.

She was a native of Montgomery County and a retired waitress.

Surviving are daughters, Shirley Lemonds of Candor, Kaye Bobbitt of Winston-Salem, Debby Johnson of Biscoe; brothers, Roy Lee Simpson of Leavenworth, Kan., J.D. Simpson of Robbins, Richard Simpson of Cheraw, S.C.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star 6-8 p.m. Monday.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Harvey Lee Hughes, retired from Carolina Underwear after 30 years and a member of Westfield Baptist Church where she was a member of the Adult Sunday School class.

Surviving are daughters, Doris Pullum, Mary Stevens, Jean Everhart, all of Thomasville, Janice Lanier, Donna "Sissie" Freeman, Lynn Shaw, all of Lexington; sons, Leslie Hughes, Donald "Bo" Hughes, both of Lexington, Harold Hughes of Welcome; sister, Wilma Hill of Maryland; brother, Frank Hopkins of Asheville; 39 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren.
