ASHEBORO - William Wiley Davis, 66, of 919 Mack Road, Asheboro, died Monday, June 10, 2002, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Randolph Memorial Park, with military honors and the Rev. A. J. Kendrick officiating.

He was a native of Greensboro, retired from the U.S. Navy, operated Davis Poultry and a member of AMVETS Post 905.

Surviving are son, Keith W. Davis of Randleman; daughter, Gina D. Hoover of Asheboro; brother, Clarence Davis of Asheboro; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of his daughter, 517 W. Kivett St., Asheboro.

Memorials may be made to North Carolina Chapter of the ALS Association, 1301 N. Salem St., Apex, N.C. 27502.

Susie P. Kearns
ASHEBORO - Susie Elizabeth Parsons Kearns, 91, of 1320 Cable Creek Road, Asheboro, died Monday, June 10, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at New Union United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Lee Roy Hunt and the Rev. Jean Nall officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Richmond County, the widow of Clyde C. Kearns and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Sarah K. Dunn of Star, Betty Bingham, Barbara Ann Wilson, both of Asheboro, Patsy White of Concord; sons, James "Jimmy" L. Kearns, Larry Kearns, Lynn Kearns, all of Asheboro, J.P. "Parson" Kearns of Sophia; 23 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph, P.O. Box 9, Asheboro, N.C. 27204-0009.

Clyde E. Whatley
RANDLEMAN - Clyde Eugene Whatley, 69, of 665 Bonkemeyer Country Trail, died Monday, June 10, 2002, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Steve Wood and the Rev. Kenneth Reaves officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park with military honors.

He was a native of Randolph County, a U.S. Army veteran, a graduate of High Point College and formerly employed with Sechrest Funeral Home in High Point. He taught school in Staley, Franklinville, Coleridge and Grays Chapel and coached girl's basketball and Little League Baseball and was a member of Woodmen of the World.

Surviving are wife, Charlcie Bonkemeyer Whatley; daughter, Diane Norris of Asheboro; sons, Dean Whatley of Asheboro, Danny Whatley and Don Whatley, both of Randleman, Doyle Whatley of Sophia; sisters, Linda York and Wanda Dennis, both of Ulah; brother, David Whatley of Ulah; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of the daughter, 511 Hub Morris Road, Asheboro.

Sally S. Oldham
BEAR CREEK - Sally Smith Oldham, 62, of 1269 Bonlee-Carbonton Road, died Sunday, June 9, 2002, at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bear Creek Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Bob Wachs and the Rev. Manuel Cunnup officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County and retired from Lowe's Food Store.

Surviving are husband, Joe E. Oldham of Bear Creek; daughter, Betty Jo Wilson of Siler City; son, Chad Oldham of Bear Creek; brother, Kerney Smith Jr. of Siler City; sisters, Sarah S. Jones, Linda S. Burgess, Patsy S. Howard, all of Siler City, Jane S. Shaw of Ramseur; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

LIBERTY - Ruth Buckner Murchison, 89, of 9947 Pleasant Hill Church Road, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at Carol Lee Elderly Care Home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Rocky River Friends Meeting. Burial will be in the meeting cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County, the widow of Sam Murchison, a homemaker and attended Rocky River Friends Meeting.

Surviving are son, Jerrold Murchison of Liberty; sisters, Edith Lindley and Mary Johnson, both of Siler City; one grandson.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

Colon Harvell
GREENSBORO - James Colon Harvell, 84, of 1322 Bothwell Street, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Pastor Glen Garver officiating. Burial will be in Providence Friends Meeting cemetery.

He was a native of Guilford County, the widower of Helen Ross Harvell, had worked for Beason's Dairy and Noah's Dairy and joined the C.C. Camp during the Great Depression.

Surviving are sisters, Rose H. DeFillipo of Asheboro, Mabel H. Allred of Randleman, Iona H. McDowell of Beulahville; brother, Eugene Harvell of Randleman.

The family will be at the funeral home 1-2 p.m. Friday.

Willie Smith
GOLDSTON - Willie Smith, 73, of 51 Mary Emma Drive, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Pleasant Grove Christian Church, Bennett. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, a retired logger with Alton Gaines Logging and attended Pleasant Grove Christian Church.

Surviving are wife, Mary Effie Brafford Smith of Goldston; sons, Willie Wayne Smith, James Wesley Smith, Bobby Lynn Smith, all of Goldston; daughter, Linda Jean Moore of Bennett; stepdaughter, Rose Hart of Siler City; brother, John Smith of Bennett; sister, Inez Kidd of Staley; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Bobby Lynn Smith, 97 Mary Emma Drive, Goldston.

John Woodyear Sr.
TROY - Dr. John Woodyear Sr., 79, died Saturday, June 8, 2002, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bostic Funeral Home, Candor.

Surviving are daughter, Laryce W. Dowe of Fairfax, Va.; sons, Dr. John Woodyear Jr. of Troy, Robert Woodyear of Los Angeles, Calif.; sisters, Carmen Woodyear, Delphine Curachi, Mary Marco, Dorothy Marchete, Paulina Soprano, all of New York, N.Y.; brother, Ephraim Woodyear of Connecticut; seven grandchildren.

Robert W. Warner
BISCOE - Robert Wayne Warner, 41, of Cabin Creek Road, died Monday, June 10, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Biscoe, where he was a member, with the Rev. Larry Wilson and the Rev. David Beek officiating. Burial will be in Biscoe Cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, a member of Ducks Unlimited International and the Copperhead Hunt Club and a corrections officer.

Surviving are wife, Gloria Hall Warner of Biscoe; daughters, Tonya Ellen Warner, Jenny Lee Warner and Jessie Paige Warner, all of Biscoe; parents, Bobby and Irene Warner of Biscoe; grandmother, Hattie Kennedy of Biscoe; sisters, Brenda Warner Kern of Asheboro, Tina W. McCallum of Candor.

The family will be at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home, Candor, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of his parents, Brendana Drive, Biscoe.

ELLERBE - Grace Irene Ford Gerald, 82, of Forest Oaks Nursing Home in Albemarle, formerly of Ellerbe, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at Forest Oaks Nursing Home.

A private funeral service will be held.

She was a native of Richmond County, the widow of James Harvey Gerald, a homemaker and a member of Hickory Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Surviving are sons, James H. Gerald Jr. of Wadesboro, Paul J. Gerald of Candor; daughters, Corena Prevatt of Greensboro, Vickey Johnson of Candor, Patricia Fredrick of Hopkinsville, Ky., Doisha Kincaid and Virginia Lemonds, both of Troy; brother, Robert L. Ford Jr. of Albemarle; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Carter Funeral Home, Ellerbe, is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Brower
ASHEBORO - Dorothy Brower of 1607 Brookdale Drive, Asheboro, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at her home.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Oakland Baptist Church Cemetery, Ramseur.

Surviving are husband, Elfert Brower of the home; daughters, Sarah Green of Seagrove, Golda Person of Asheboro, the Rev. Eva Curtis of Ramseur; son, Jesse Brower of Liberty; 17 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Knotts & Son Funeral Home, Siler City, is in charge of arrangements.

Edith H. Constantine
GREENSBORO - Edith H. Constantine, 54, died Monday, June 3, 2002.

Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at All Saints Episcopal Church, Greensboro, where she was a member.

She was a native of Macon, Ga., and an educator for 32 years at North Asheboro Middle School.

Surviving is brother, Charles Constantine Jr.

The family will be at the church following the service.

She was a native of Mexico and an employee of Hughes Furniture, Randleman.

Surviving are husband, Victor Manuel Sanchez of Siler City; daughter, Agustina Sanchez of Siler City; father, Dolores Zagada Santo of Mexico; mother, Agustina Rangel Hernandez of Mexico; 15 brothers and sisters.

She was a native of Mexico and a self-employed child-care provider.

Lowe J. Warner
TROY - Lowe Jackson Warner, 47, of 601 Wallace Ave., died Monday, June 10, 2002, in Anson County.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a U.S. Army veteran and worked in construction as a brick and block mason.

Surviving are father and mother, Lee Jackson Warner and Rachel Smith Warner of the home; brother, Joe Warner of Troy.

He was the widower of Gladys Fox Clark, a retired supervisor from J.P. Stevens and a member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are wife, Cora Leigh T. Clark of Abbottsburg; son, H. Willis Clark Jr. of Aberdeen; daughters, Marie C. Monroe and Elizabeth C. Barringer of Carthage; brothers, J.M. Clark of Hamlet, Douglas M. Clark of West End, Dr. William M. Clark of Southern Pines; sisters, Ella Mae Rabon of Darnestown, Md., Lucile Comfort of Brandon, Miss.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry-Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday.
