DENTON - Ruth Fine Santomauro, 74, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at Thomasville Medical Center.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Monday at Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Gene Little officiating.

She was a native of Davidson County, formerly employed with Gulfton Fenco and a member of Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are son, David A. Johnson of Mocksville; daughters, Dianne Hutchens Lanier and Candi White, both of Denton; brother, Marion T. Fine of Southport; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the home of Dianne Lanier, Farmer Road, Denton.

Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, is in charge of arrangements.

Samuel R. Vestal
SILER CITY - Samuel Ross Vestal, 78, of 3687 Piney Grove Church Road, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Rocky River Friends Meeting, with David Hobson and Hospice Chaplain Jan Clark officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, a World War II U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of Staley United Methodist Church.

Surviving are wife, Mary Louise York Vestal of the home; sons, Sammy L. Vestal and Wesley R. Vestal, both of Siler City; brothers, James Vestal and Albert Vestal, both of Siler City; sisters, Frances V. Barker and Sue V. Mendenhall, both of Siler City; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Shirley J. Brown
BENNETT - Shirley Jones Brown, 71, of 6796 Carl Brady Road, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at Lexington Hospital, Lexington.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Fall Creek Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Ronnie Chaney officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Christian Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and a homemaker.

Surviving are son, David Brown of the home; daughter, Susan Thomason of Lexington; brothers, Wendle Jones of Ramseur, Harold Jones of Siler City, Bill Jones of Scottsboro, Ala.; sister, Doris J. Gilliland of Siler City; half brother, Wiley Jones of Siler City; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 6-8 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home of the daughter, 322 Rothrock Road, Lexington.

Lawrence R. Diver
CARTHAGE - Lawrence Ray Diver, 56, of Glendon-Carthage Road, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Putnam Friends Church, with the Rev. Ernest Moore officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Lee County, a Vietnam era U.S. Army veteran, a former farmer, a water plant operator for the Town of Goldston and president of the Carbonton Hunting Club.

Surviving are wife, Shelby Thompson Diver; daughter, Laura Gwen Diver of Glendon; son, Micah Ian Diver of Southern Pines; stepson, Richard Adcox of Putnam; mother, Mattie Spivey Diver of Haw Branch; sisters, Mary Ann Crockett of Folsom, Ala., Peggy Page of Sanford, Joyce Goins of Carthage, Betty Baker of Carbonton; brothers, Richard Diver of Carthage, Edward Diver of Gulf, Bobby Diver of Haw Branch; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday.

ASHEBORO - Jewel Hill Brown, 58, of 532 Spero Road, Randleman, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at her home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Neighbors Grove Wesleyan Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Kenneth L. Reaves and the Rev. Larry Moore officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Roger Brown of the home; sons, Dean Brown and Alan Brown, both of Asheboro; mother, Mary H. Hill Laughlin of Randleman; sister, Frances Hill Carrick of Asheboro; brother, Rubin Hill of Asheboro; two grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter.

ASHEBORO - Lewis Delbert Bean, 81, of 2764 Cox Mill Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Elder Thorton Manley officiating. Burial will be in Suggs Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Star.

He was a native of Randolph County and attended Suggs Creek Primitive Baptist Church. He was a retired partner of B&P Garage, a farmer and a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran.

Surviving are sisters, Lois B. Ayers of the home, Lila B. Payne of Asheboro; brother, Lindbergh Bean of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

Carvus Hames Jr.
ASHEBORO - Carvus Hames Jr., 77, of 600 Steele St., Asheboro, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

A Celebration of Life service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Cross Road Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Johnny R. Henderson, the Rev. Lee Ziegler and the Rev. Archie Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Rutherford County, a graduate of Chesnee High School, Chesnee, S.C., and attended Gardner-Webb College. He was a former secretary-treasurer of Luck's Inc. in Seagrove, former owner of Randolph Furniture Company, retired from Prestige Fabricators and employed with B-J Con Sew.

Surviving are wife, Evelyn Robbins Hames; daughter, Linda H. Carter of Asheboro; sons, Terry L. Hames of Greensboro, Craig Hames of Randleman; brother, Robert J. Hames of Asheboro; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; three stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-granddaughters.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

FRANKLINVILLE - Lola Bunting Pugh, 84, of 2596 Bruce Pugh Road, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at her home.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Grays Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Doug Miller officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and formerly employed with Asheboro Hosiery and Belk-Yates Thrift Store.

Surviving are husband, Herbert W. Pugh of Franklinville; daughter, Gwen P. Sutton of Winston-Salem; brothers, George Bunting, Ray Bunting, Herman Bunting, all of Asheboro; sisters, Reva Morris and Ina Mae Dorsett, both of Asheboro; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Helen F. Snider
DENTON - Helen Fine Snider, 86, of North Main Street, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at Mountain Vista Health Park.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Alleghany United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Dan McClure officiating. Burial will be in Tom's Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Davidson County, the widow of J. Ross Snider and a homemaker.

Surviving are sons, Richard L. Snider, Gary Dale Snider and Marlin Lynn Snider, all of Denton; daughter, Linda Kearns of Denton; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

MT. GILEAD - Margie McAulay Greene, 97, of 1849 Thickety Creek Road, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at her home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Holly Mount Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Henry Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of Kobbe M. Greene and retired from United Mills of Mt. Gilead, where she was one of seven original employees.

Surviving are son, Chesley M. Greene of Lilesville; daughter, Exie G. Pritchard of Asheboro; sisters, Ruth M. Strohmeyer and Charlotte M. Maynor, both of Asheboro; four grandchildren; one great-grandson.

The family will be at the church following the service.

Edwards Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, is in charge of arrangements.

SOPHIA - Michelle Renee Estrada, 18, of 3280 Evelyn St., died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hillsville Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Tommy Harrold officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

She was a native of Torrence, Calif., a graduate of Trinity High School, an employee of United Parcel Service and a member of the 123rd Personnel Detachment of the North Carolina Army National Guard.

Surviving are mother and stepfather, Sherry and Rickey Meris of the home; father, Jesse Estrada of Hawthorne, Calif.; brother, Christopher Meris of the home; grandparents, Rita E. Young of Lawndale, Calif., Roger Collins of Pahrump, Nev.

The family will be at Family Funeral Care, Archdale, 7-8:30 p.m. Monday.

Betty B. Barker
RAMSEUR - Betty Burns Barker, 73, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at Asheboro Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Gary Waisner and the Rev. Mary Miller officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Knoll Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, a member of Kildee Wesleyan Church, a homemaker and employed with Acme McCrary and also with Golden Corral.

Surviving are son, Andy Barker; brother, Joe Burns of Asheboro; sisters, Mary Ward of Asheboro, Kathryn Nichols of Ramseur; one grandson.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Monday.

LIBERTY - Sarah Ledbetter "Lizzie" Lemons, 83, of 5057 Ramseur-Julian Road, formerly of Troy, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Wesleyan Church, Troy, where she was a member, with Pastor Douglas Beadle and the Rev. Don Ledbetter officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County and a volunteer with the Randolph County Department of Social Services.

Surviving are daughter, Linda L. Creed of Greensboro; son, Danny Lemons of Sigourney, Iowa; brother, Rev. Don Ledbetter of Gibsonville; sister, Mary Frances Ledbetter of Troy; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Jim Wall officiating. Burial will be in Loves Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Pickens, S.C., and retired from Kellwood.

Surviving are husband, D. Keith McLaughlin of Siler City; daughter, Zoann M. Adams of Siler City; sons, D.K. McLaughlin of Jamestown, Tom T. McLaughlin of Greensboro; four grandchildren; one great-grandson.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Frank Marit Jr.
TROY - Frank Marit Jr., 80, of Carolina House, Asheboro, formerly of Troy, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Troy Presbyterian Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. David Hudson officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery.

He was a native of Litchfield, Ill., a retired Chief Warrant Office with the U.S. Navy and a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are sister, Mildred Small of Salt Lake City, Utah; brother, Dwight Marit of Raymond, Ill.

The family will be at the church Tuesday, one hour prior to the service.

PINEHURST - Blanche Moon Parker, 89, formerly of Randleman, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at Manor Care of Pinehurst.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Randolph Memorial Park, with the Rev. Jerry Mills officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County and a homemaker.

Surviving are son, Rayford Millikan of Carthage; sisters, Minnie Hunsberger and Pearl Moon, both of Randleman; half brothers, Grady Moon of Coleridge, James Moon, Ray Moon, Harold Moon of Asheboro; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Carl C. Hayes
SEAGROVE - Carl Calvin Hayes, 89, of 5337 Osborn Mill Road, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Antioch Christian Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Gerald Ward and the Rev. Howard Moffitt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a retired employee of B. B. Walker Shoe Co. and a retired farmer.

Surviving are sons, Paul Hayes and Franklin Hayes, both of Asheboro; daughters, Mabel Sykes, Carlene Lucas, Bonnie Lambe and Martha Moore, all of Asheboro, Louise McNeill of Ramseur; brother, Clifford Hayes of Seagrove; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

ASHEBORO - Katina Lynn Robbins, 35, of 5370 Clyde King Road, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002.

Surviving are mother and step-father, Ruth and Ron Taylor of Uhrichsville, Ohio; sisters, June Young and Penny Leasure, both of Ohio; brothers, Danny Holton and Johnny Holton, both of Ohio; stepmother, Pearl Ritter of Asheboro.

The family will be at the home of Pearl Ritter, 5370 Clyde King Road, 7-9 p.m. Thursday.
