BEAR CREEK - Mary Ruth Cox Lopossay, 61, of 86 Hoyt Scott Road, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Tyson's Creek Baptist Church, Bear Creek, where she was a member, with the Rev. Randy Hand officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County and was a retired sales representative with Evan Picone Hosiery.

Surviving are husband, Paul Lopossay, Bear Creek; sons, Robbie Davis of Siler City and Brodie Lopossay of Bear Creek; one grandson; brothers, Arnold Cox and Lewis Cox, both of Bear Creek.

The family will be at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Nora W. Mabe
STAR - Nora Williams Mabe, 77, of 203 Mabe Road, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, with the Rev. Grady Blakely officiating. Burial will follow in White Oak Springs Primitive Cemetery, Star.

She was a native of Montgomery County and retired from Clayson Knitting Co. Inc.

Surviving are sons, Bobby R. Mabe of Seagrove and Walter H. Mabe Jr. of Biscoe; daughters, Joyce Cagle of Lynchburg, Va., Judy Garner of Seagrove and Darlene Monroe of Bradenton, Fla.; sister, Ethel Haywood of Mt. Gilead; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren.

Richard C. Phillips
CARTHAGE - Richard Cummings Phillips, 82, of 288 Vernon Road, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Glendon Christian Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Robert Yandle officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.

He was a native of Moore County, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired machinist.

Surviving are brother, Vernon Phillips of Carthage, sister, Edna Gideons of Greensboro.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 6-8 p.m. Monday, other times at the residence in the Putnam Community.

Lorraine F. Allred
ASHEBORO - Lorraine Freeman Allred, 59, of 728 William Ave., Asheboro, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oakhurst Baptist Church, where she was a member, with Dr. Richard Crider officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of Asheboro and retired after 30 years with NCDOT as a secretary in the Asheboro district office.

Surviving are husband, William "Bill" Allred; daughter, Lisa Dawn A. Tucker of Lexington; father, Leonard Freeman; sister, Evelyn "Martha" Hussey; stepson, Ken Allred; two stepgrandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Bob Gibson
RANDLEMAN - Robert Lee "Bob" Gibson, 83, of 3131 Shady Forest Road, died Saturday Dec. 7, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

No funeral services will be held.

He was a native of Indiana, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a landscaper.

Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, is in charge or arrangements.

Robert Cook
FRANKLINVILLE - Robert Luther "Bob" Cook, 66, of 3612 Carl Allred Road, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Whites Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jeff Joyce officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired from Weiman Furniture after 35 years and raised exotic birds and animals. He was a U.S. Army veteran and attended Whites Memorial Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons, Garry Lynn Cook of New Hope, Terry Lee Cook of Franklinville; sister, Frances Walker of Franklinville; mother, Mary Webster Cook of Franklinville; two grandchildren; Edith Watson of the home.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Whites Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 2852 Walker Store Road, Franklinville, N.C. 27248.

Willa S. Williams
LIBERTY - Willa Shepard Williams, 83, of 2648 N.C. 62 East, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at Edgewood Place, Burlington.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Union United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. David Cash officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Guilford County, the widow of Clarence M. "Bud" Williams, a member of the Adult Sunday School class at her church and a member of the Joy Club and United Methodist Women.

Surviving are sons, Ron Williams and Danny Williams, both of Liberty; sister, Dorothy Lowe of Liberty; two grandsons.

The family will be at the church, following the service.

Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, is in charge of arrangements.

Virginia G. Wrenn
BURLINGTON - Virginia Gaddy Wrenn, 87, of 3745 Wade Coble Drive, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at Twin Lakes Center, Burlington.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Siler City Presbyterian Church, Siler City, where she was a founding member, with the Rev. Sue Flippin officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Siler City.

She was a native of Anson County, a member of Women of the Church, children's Sunday School teacher and youth leader. She was a member of Gordon Club of Slier City, where she was a judge, and a member of Eastern Star #9.

Surviving are husband, Dr. Grover C. Wrenn Sr. of Burlington; sons, Grover C. Wrenn Jr. of St. Petersburg, Fla., Stephen W. Wrenn of Marietta, Ga., C. Mitchell Wrenn of Burlington; sister, Lucy G. Wescoat of Columbia, S.C.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Willis and Sara Wrenn, 526 West Glendale, Siler City.

Thomas S. Elder Sr.
SILER CITY - Thomas Satterfield Elder Sr., 76, of 198 Pine Forest Drive, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at Chatham Hospital.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Joe Casteel officiating. Burial will be in Chatham Memorial Park.

He was a native of Mt. Airy, founder and past president of Elder Printing Inc., a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, a member of Siler City Masonic Lodge #403 AF & AM, the Blowing Rock Country Club and the Siler City Country Club.

Surviving are wife, Betty Rector Elder of Siler City; daughter, Diane E. Johnson of Siler City; son, Thomas S. Elder Jr. of Greensboro; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the home.

Arnold H. Goins
DENTON - Arnold Howard Goins, 77, of Candy Road, Jackson Springs, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Middlecross Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in Jackson Springs Cemetery.

He was a native of Surry County and had worked in construction and landscaping,

Surviving are wife, Ruth Threadgill Goins of the home; son, Howard Goins Jr. of Ellerbe; daughter, Sherry Glover of Jackson Springs; brothers, Alvin Goins of Jackson Springs, Ed Goins of Candor; sisters, Effie Brown and Peggy Britt, both of Jackson Springs, "Cootie" Smith of Candor; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home, Candor, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Doris Snead
DENTON - Doris D. Snead, 56, of Mose Glover Road, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at Lexington Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Eleazer United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Claudie Harrison officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Davidson County, a graduate of Stanly Community College with a degree in Respiratory Therapy, employed as a therapist with Randolph Hospital and of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are husband, Donald Snead of New London; sons, Scott Dorsett and Donnie Snead, both of Denton; parents, Ernest and Odena Doby of Denton; brother, Ernest Lee Doby Jr. of Denton; sisters, Janet Doby of Winston-Salem, Linda Hunter of Denton.

Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, is in charge of arrangements.

Homer Cook
MT. GILEAD - Homer Cook, 50, of Newark, N.J., formerly of Wadeville, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Roper Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Jerry Dowdy officiating. Burial will be in Bruton Cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County.

Surviving are wife, Hester Cook of Newark; children, Turkessa Cook, Rodrick Cook, Marcus Cook, Tanya Cook, Tymesha Legrand and Tony Legrand; mother, Millie Vaughn Cook of Wadeville; sister, Millie C. Thomas of Maplewood, N.J.; brother, Fredrick Cook of Edison, N.J.; eight grandchildren.

The family will be at Harris Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of the mother.

Cora R. Leake
MT. GILEAD - Cora Lee Robinson Leake, 71, of 4112 N.C. 73 East, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ingram Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Deborah Chambers officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of George Washington Leake, a member of the Missionary Board and president of the choir.

Surviving are daughters, Linda S. Pemberton, Bessie Medley, Vera Morman, Miriam Leake, all of Mt. Gilead; sons, George A. Leake of Seven Lakes, Glenn D. Leake, David F. Leake, Bonnie A. Leake, Larry Leake, all of Mt. Gilead, Harvey Leake of Albemarle, Alfred Leake, James Leake, both of Charlotte; sisters, Margaree Thomas of Newark N.J., Dorothy Bogan of Rockingham, Mae Catherine Thomas of Plainfield, N.J.; brothers, William Robinson, Charlie Robinson, Grady Robinson, all of Mt. Gilead; 22 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

Vernie L. Hunt
PINEHURST - Vernie Lowder Hunt, 89, of 205 Rattlesnake Trail, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at Manor Care Nursing.

No funeral service will be held.

She was a native of Stanly County.

Surviving is brother, Henry P. Lowder of Albemarle.

Edna H. Humphries
RUTHERFORDTON - Edna Viola Hardin Humphries, 82, of 4381 U.S. 64-74A, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at Rutherford Hospital.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Piney Knob Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Rick Wall, the Rev. Jerry Campbell and the Rev. Dale Vance officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Rutherford County, a retired seamstress with Tanner Company and a Sunday School teacher at her church.

Surviving are husband, George William Humphries of Rutherfordton; mother, Josie Hardin of Rutherfordton; daughter, Doris Hill of Rutherfordton; son, James Humphries of Rutherfordton; brothers, Garland Hardin and Roy Hardin, both of Rutherfordton; sisters, Alma Haynes, Willie Hodge and Virginia Lawter, all of Rutherfordton; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the home of Doris and Norris Hill, 2921 Cove Road, Rutherfordton.

Among the survivors is daughter, Anne W. Winslow of Asheboro.

The family will be at Swindell Funeral Home, Hertford, 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Ruby M. McKinney
ASHEBORO - Ruby Joan Marsh McKinney, 65, of 1816 Lassiter Mill Road, Asheboro, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Alamance County, employed with Klaussner Furniture Plant 1 and raised and sold ferns from her home.

Surviving are husband, Randall McKinney of Asheboro; daughter, Ruby Joy Saunders of Merritt Island, Fla.; son, David James Williams of Deland, Fla.; sister, Patricia Apple Cook of Graham; brother, Jack Marsh of Asheboro; mother, Ruby Kenan Marsh of Asheboro; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Emma F. Hall
RANDLEMAN - Emma Farlow Hall, 77, of 213 Church St., died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Friendship Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Tommy Kidd officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County and retired from Bossing Hosiery Mill.

Surviving are husband, J. Cletus Hall of Randleman; son, Landis Hall of Randleman; brothers, Fredrick Farlow of Cedar Square, Norman Farlow of Sophia; sister, Carol F. Huffman of Randleman; one granddaughter.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Carr V. Redding Jr.
SOPHIA - Carr Vaden Redding Jr., 69, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Marlboro Friends Meeting, where he was a member.

He was a native of Sophia, the widower of Peggy Moffitt Redding and in the Fellowship Class and on the board of ushers at his church. He was a self-employed cattle dealer, a past member of the N.C. Cattlemen's Association and Randolph County Poultry and Livestock Association and a past president of the New Market Civitans.

Surviving are sons, Curtis A. Redding and Carr V. Redding III, both of Sophia; daughter, Susan Jones of Reidsville; sisters, Evelyn Ring of Colfax, Freda Edwards of Winston-Salem, Mildred Sueta of New Jersey; three grandchildren; one stepgrandson.

The family will be at Cumby Funeral Home, Archdale, 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
