ASHEBORO - Gary Edward Howard, 59, of 1580 Sunburst Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Wesley Long Community Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Clay Davis officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Pikeville, Ky., a retired employee of Galey & Lord, a graduate of Johns Creek High School, Pikeville, Ky., and of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are wife, May Howard of the home; son, Bryan Howard of Sophia; mother, Erma Howard of Asheboro; brother, Ellis Slone of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Memorials be made to Hospice of Randolph, P.O. Box 9, Asheboro, N.C. 27204-0009.

Rhoda C. Leach
ASHEBORO - Rhoda Chrisco Leach, 88, of 720 City View St., Asheboro, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fayetteville Street Baptist Church, where she was a charter member, with the Rev. Adrian Pugh officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Seagrove.

The. family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Patricia Upton, 6626 New Center Church Road, Seagrove.

Cicero J. McMasters
ASHEBORO - Cicero June "Mae" McMasters, 70, of Asheboro, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Jim Honeycutt officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park, with full military honors.

He was a native of Grays Chapel, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and the retired owner/operator of North 220 Exxon.

Surviving are wife, Mary Lowe McMasters of the home; daughters, Vickie Kaminski of Asheboro, Carol Robertson of Lexington; stepdaughter, Robin Marsh of Asheboro; brothers, Glenn R. McMasters of Franklinville, Gene W. McMasters of Asheboro; sister, Opal M. Bullard of Asheboro; six grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Bill Wilson
ASHEBORO - William Herbert Wilson, 74, of 138 West St., Asheboro, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Jeremy Sink and the Rev. David Kelly officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Chatham County, a graduate of Bonlee High School, a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the Asheboro Chapter of AA.

Surviving are wife, Vera Lewellyn Wilson; sons, Douglas E. Wilson of Seagrove, Roger E. Wilson of Asheboro, William "Billy" H. Wilson Jr. of Hickory; daughter, Kathy W. Hornady of Trinity; brother, Henry J. Wilson of Asheboro; sisters, Katie W. Cranford of Asheboro, Margaret W. Newsome, Annie W. Burns, both of Siler City; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Roger Wilson, 2884 Kamerim St., Randleman.

ARCHDALE - Christopher A. Smith, 35, formerly of Carthage, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Carthage First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. David Coffey and the Rev. Scott Saleeby officiating. Burial will be in Cross Hill Cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, a service manager with Guilford Gas, High Point, and had attended Union Pines High School, Carthage.

Surviving are sons, R. Anthony Hart, Dustin C. Smith, P. Aaron Smith, all of the home; sister, Kimberly Gibson of Vass; brother, Todd Smith of Randleman; stepsisters, Kim Hirst of Charlotte, Amy Porterfield of Roxboro; stepbrother, Mark Wingate of Denver; mother, Brenda C. Smith of Carthage; father and stepmother, R.G. and Shelley Smith of Eagle Springs; grandmothers, Alma Clark of Carthage, Virginia B. Smith of Eagle Springs.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Brenda Smith, 384 Niagara-Carthage Road, Carthage.

Bernard J. McMannus Jr.
RAMSEUR - Bernard "Bud" Joseph McMannus Jr., 72, of 385 Curtis St., died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Jordan Memorial United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mary Miller and the Rev. Charles Fleshman officiating. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven, Conn.

He was a native of Connecticut, a graduate of the University of Connecticut, a U.S. Army veteran and retired from the John Plant Co. as sales manager. He was a member of the Ramseur Lions Club, Scoutmaster for Troop 508 and a recipient of Boy Scouting's Silver Beaver Award.

Surviving are sisters, Marion M. Chapell, Rita M. Lewis, both of West Haven, Conn.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Lola F. Coltrane
LIBERTY - Lola Ferguson Coltrane, 97, formerly of Liberty, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at Clapp's Nursing Center, Pleasant Garden.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, with the Rev. John Shields and the Rev. Steve Moore officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Joseph Randolph Coltrane, a member of Bethany United Methodist Church and attended Christ Fellowship Church, Greensboro.

Surviving are daughters, Etta Brady, Donna Williams, both of Liberty, Josephine Culberson of Siler City; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Donna Williams, 222 W. Brower Ave., Liberty.

PLEASANT GARDEN - Floyd Elroy Decker Sr., 83, of 6114 Sussex Trail, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation, Asheboro.

Graveside service, with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oaklawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Terry Kersey officiating.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 10-11 a.m. Wednesday.

Mary P. Gatlin
BENNETT - Mary Joyce Purvis Gatlin, 64, of 8721 Bennett Road, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at Kindred Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Jeff Moran and the Rev. Bob Gelsthorpe officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at Joyce-Brady Funeral Home, Bennett, 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Delmar and Jeffery Gatlin, 6970 Cheek-Purvis Trail, Bennett.

BENNETT - Lillian Murray Ferree Turpin, 90, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation, Siler City.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Grove Christian Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Chris Wood, the Rev. Kenneth Huggins and the Rev. Bill Hale officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County, a retired employee of Klopman Mills and a charter member of the Bennett Home Demonstration.

Surviving are son, Larry Ferree of Whispering Pines; daughters, Doris Wallace of Carthage, Joyce Garrell, Barbara Councilman, both of Asheboro, Brenda Brown of Bennett; sister, Ruby Graham of Greensboro; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Brenda Brown, 6288 Carl Cox Road, Bennett.

Dewey E. Mitchell
BEAR CREEK - Dewey Earl Mitchell, 41, of 35 Eastway Drive, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, Siler City, with the Rev. Joe Casteel officiating.

He was a native of Luzerne County, Pa., had served on pit crews for David Gaines Racing and Stephen Grimes Racing and was employed as a production manager for Foam Design Inc., Durham. He was a member of Edgewood Presbyterian Church, Sanford, and attended First United Methodist Church, Siler City.

Surviving are wife, Tammy Tidy Mitchell of Bear Creek; daughter, Kendall Mitchell of the home; son, Jake Mitchell of the home; mother, Betty Johnson Morgan of Bear Creek; stepfather, Henry Morgan of Bear Creek; sister, Connie M. Dowdy of Sanford; brothers, Richard Mitchell of Bear Creek, Timmy Mitchell of Goldston; great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Gatewood of Carthage.

The family will be at the church 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Rod and Evelyn Tidy, 316 S. Third Ave., Siler City.

SILER CITY - Wade H. "June" Perry Jr., 78, of 6595 Siler City-Snow Camp Road, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, with the Rev. Greg W. Burriss and the Rev. Brian Mann officiating. Burial will be in Rocky River Baptist Church cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, retired owner/operator of Perry Tire Co., a cattle farmer, a member of Sapling Ridge United Methodist Church and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Doris Hargrove Perry of Siler City; son, Thomas Jeffrey Perry of Siler City; sister, Doris Thomas of Siler City; four grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Surviving is sister, Lena C. Lewis of Eagle Springs.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Patricia Upton, 6626 New Center Church Road, Seagrove.
