LIBERTY - Elnora "Nora" Kivett Lineberry, 95, of 4955 Ramseur-Julian Road, died, Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at her home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Grays Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Doug Miller officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and the widow of John J. Lineberry.

Surviving are daughters, Betty L. Johnson, Nancy L. Braxton, both of Liberty; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home of Betty Johnson, 4955 Ramseur-Julian Road, Liberty.

HIGH POINT - Joreen Kearns Cooke, 74, of 1706 Ternberry Road, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Barry Osborne and Dr. Charles W. Wilson II officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

She was a native of Castalia, the widow of Jeter Monroe Cooke and a store manager for Margaret's Boutique

Surviving are daughter, Tammy Rhodenhiser of High Point; son, Brad Cooke of High Point; sister, Golda Gantt of Atlanta, Ga.; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of Tammy Rhodenhiser, 225 Prestwick Drive, High Point.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Carmal S. Melvin
GREENSBORO - Carmal Stevens Melvin, 84, of Evergreens Senior Healthcare, died Monday, March 31, 2003.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Larry Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park.

She was the widow of Paul Melvin, a member of the WMU, a GA leader, a nursery department worker at her church and a retired worker from Piedmont Gospel Bookstore.

Surviving is brother, Oscar Stevens of Biscoe.

The family will be at Forbis & Dick Funeral Home, Guilford Chapel, Greensboro, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of Byron and Barbara Mimbs, 5206 Foxhall Court, Greensboro.

TROY - Elon Green Newsom, 90, of 408 Bruton St., died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Baaseiah Family Care, Candor.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Mike Elliott officiating. Burial will be in Clear Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery, Denton.

She was a native on Lincolnton, Ga., a member of the adult choir and Circle #2 at her church, and a member of the Home Demonstration Club.

Surviving are son, Charles Albert Newsom of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; daughter, Carol Ann N. Thrower of Sharpsburg, Ga.; sisters, Virginia Brewer of Thomasville, Ruth Dennis of High Point; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 6-8 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

Lula L. Saunders
TROY - Lula Luther Saunders, 93, formerly of 7167 Eleazer Church Road, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Eleazer United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Derald Smith and Chris Sheffield officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Burl Saunders and a retired employee of Stedman Manufacturing.

Surviving are sons, Jimmy Sanders of Asheboro, Ronnie Saunders of the home; daughters, Martha Varner of Lexington, Jean Teague of Asheboro; brother, James Alvin Luther of Grays Chapel; sister, Louise Edwards of Asheboro; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday.

MT. GILEAD - Rachel Ann Waterfield Jordan, 63, of Valley View Church Road, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at her home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home, Candor, with the Rev. James Potts officiating. Burial will be in Candor Cemetery.

She was a native of Richmond County, Va., and a retired employee of Southland Corp.

Surviving are husband, Clifford G. Jordan of the home; daughters, Vicky Jordan of Mt. Gilead, Rhonda Dempsey of Yorktown, Va., Brenda J. Harris of Denton; brothers, Leon Waterfield of Pascagoula, Miss., Robert Waterfield of Newport News, Va.; five grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Mae M. Lane
SILER CITY - Mae Marshburn Lane, 88, of 812 Siler City-Glendon Ave., died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Jim Well officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

She was a native of Duplin County, the widow of James T. Lane and a retired English teacher and librarian at Paul Braxton and Jordan Matthews high schools for 33 years. She was a librarian, Sunday School teacher and director of the WMU at her church. She was a charter member of Siler City Eastern Star Chapter #9, where she was a secretary, Worthy Matron and Grand Page.

Surviving are daughter, Gay L. Fulbright of Raleigh; son, Jimmy D. Lane of Siler City; two grandchildren.

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, is in charge of arrangements.

BENNETT - James Earl Cox, 44, of 1370 Iron Mountain Road, Asheboro, formerly of Kansas City, Mo., died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at SunBridge Care, Siler City.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Grove Christian Church, Bennett, where he was a member, with the Rev. Chris Wood and the Rev. Jimmy Hill officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County and the former owner and operator of James and Company Floral & Interior Design in Kansas City, Mo.

Surviving are mother, Virginia Minton of Asheboro; father, Melvin Cox of Bennett; brother, Melvin Leo Cox Jr. of Savannah, Ga.; sister, Susan Cox of Asheboro.

The family will be at the church following the service.

Joyce-Brady Funeral Home, Bennett, is in charge of arrangements.

ASHEBORO - Arthur Raymond Cain, 91, of 1209 S. Fayetteville St., Asheboro, died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Central United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Chris Thore and the Rev. Barry Queen officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was the retired owner/operator of Cain Gun and Tool, a founding member of the Randolph Rifle Club and a member of the Lloyd Bible Class at his church.

Surviving are wife, Nannie Hopkins Cain; granddaughter, Cynthia C. Brower of Asheboro, whom the deceased raised; brother, Thomas Cain of Greensboro; sisters, Roxie Saunders of Coleridge, Virginia Stines of Okeechobee, Fla., Ela Copeland of Ft. Myers, Fla.; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-8 p.m. Saturday.

Pauline B. Callicutt
ASHEBORO - Pauline Bell Callicutt, 78, of 1124 Oakdale Drive, Asheboro, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Todd Hinson and the Rev. Floyd Miller officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County, a retired master seamstress with Resort Wear in Ramseur and a member of Browers Memorial Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are husband, John Franklin Callicutt; sons, Larry Franklin Callicutt of Bryson City, Perry Free Callicutt of Asheboro; sister, Vera Mae Hoover of Asheboro; three grandchildren; two great-grandsons.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday.

ASHEBORO - Fannie A. Lane Jarrett of Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home, formerly of Lanier Avenue, Asheboro, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Clapp's.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Dr. John S. Rogers and the Rev. Gene Booker officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of Ramseur, a member of First Baptist Church and a retired employee of Bossong Hosiery.

Surviving are daughters, Susan J. Kinney of Trinity, Patsy J. Kidd of Asheboro, Judy M. Jarrett of Greensboro; brother, Clarence "Tink" Lane of Concord; three grandsons; one great-grandson.

She was a native of Davidson County, the widow of Wayne Nance and a retired Certified Nursing Assistant with Randolph Hospital.

Surviving are son, Gary W. Nance of Lexington; daughters, Loretta Nance of Lexington, Ellan Nance; brother, C. Spencer Surratt of Denton; sisters, Elwanda S. Hooper of Thomasville, Zola S. Younts of Lexington; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Lee County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a member and deacon of Pittsboro Seventh Day Adventist Church and owner and operator of Brewington Upholstery.

Surviving are wife, Bernice Callender Brewington; daughters Priscilla Ann Barkley of Hampton, Va., Pearl Brewington, Penelope Brewington, Phyllis Brewington, all of Montclair, N.J., Paula Brewington of Pennsylvania; son, H.M. "Jason" Brewington Jr. of Riverside, Calif.; 13 grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 6-7 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

She was a native of Moore County, worked for the Moore County Clerk of Court and was a retired Clerk of Court for Moore County.

Surviving are husband, Richard L. Comer; daughter, Rhonda Sue Holland of Madison; sons, Richard L. Comer Jr. of Denver, Colo., Randal V. Comer of Cameron; mother, Mamie Davis Holder of Sanford; sister, Edna Johnson of Sanford; brother, Johnny Holder of Cameron; four grandchildren.

He was a native of Montgomery County, the widower of Rachel Morgan Freeman, a barber, retired from Cox & Freeman Barber Shop and a member of First Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, James R. Freeman of Bremerton, Wash.; daughter, Janis Van Der Staak of Seagrove; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

He was a native of Iredell County, of the Primitive Baptist faith, a retired employee of Klopman Mills and a farmer.

Surviving are daughters, Betty L. Gray of Randleman, Sarah L. Davis of Charlotte; brothers, James H. Lee of Blairsville, Ga., Rev. John Lee of Pleasant Garden; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday.
