SILER CITY - Kary Lee Cable, 85, of 898 Willie Duncan Road, died Friday, April 11, 2003, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty. Burial will follow in Gilmore Memorial Park, Julian.

He was a Guilford County native and a member of Pleasant Grove Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are wife, Allie Lee Modlin Cable of the home; daughter, Marie Cowan of Asheville; one grandson.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday; other times at the home.

Wilbert C. Britt
BISCOE - Wilbert Clayton Britt, 90, formerly of 480 Wilbert Road, Star, died Saturday, April 12, 2003, at Autumn Care of Biscoe.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Browns Chapel Christian Church, Robbins, where he was a member, with the Rev. Brady Stephens and the Rev. Gary Waisner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

He was a Moore County native and a retired farmer and carpenter.

Surviving are wife, Onnie Britt of the home; sons, Lee Britt of Robbins and Daniel T. Britt of Mims, Fla.; daughter, Aileen Garner of Robbins; stepson, Bobby Hinson of Lake Norman; sister, Bonnie Conklin of Altamahaw; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Sunday; other times at 110 Hyde St., Biscoe.

Richard L. Christian
WADEVILLE - Richard Lee Christian, 53, of 123 Christian Lane, died Thursday, April 9, 2003, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Roper Grove A.M.E. Zion Church with the Rev. Jerry Dowdy officiating. Burial will follow in Bruton Cemetery.

He was a Montgomery County native and worked in construction.

Surviving are sisters, Peggy Christian, Margaret Christian and Hazel Deberry, all of East Orange, N.J., and Grace Robinson of Mt. Gilead; brothers, Henry Christian Jr., Matthew Christian and James Christian, all of Newark, N.J., and Alfonso Christian and Mack Christian, both of Irvington, N.J.

Viewing will be from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday at Harris Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead.

Bill Robinson
NORMAN - Harvey William "Bill" Robinson, 82, of 3700 U.S. 220 North, died Saturday, April 12, 2003, at Evergreen Senior Healthcare in Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home, Candor, with the Rev. Joe Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow in Norman Cemetery.

He was a Montgomery County native and a self-employed logger with Robinson Lumber Logging Co. He was a member of Norman Methodist Church and Woodmen of the World. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as sergeant of the 333rd Infantry, 2nd Battalion Railsplitters, having received the Bronze Medal and another medal of honor. He was the widower of Ruby Ussery Robinson.

Surviving are daughter, Lynn Maxwell of High Point; sisters, Cara Hammond of Farmer and Belle Covington of Candor; brothers, Gary Robinson of Midland and Otho Robinson of Candor; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Sunday.

BROADWAY - Josephine Griffin Holt, 93, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at the Convalescent Center of Lee County in Sanford.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Broadway United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Bob Hagerty, the Rev. Douglas Currin and the Rev. Hope Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Broadway Town Cemetery.

She was a native of Harnett County.

Surviving are daughters, Wilma Hunter, Jean Stevens and Gaynelle Holt, all of Sanford and Camilla H. White of Broadway; sons, John R. Holt of Broadway and Frank Holt of Asheboro; sisters, Margaret Patterson, Kathleen Thomas and Virginia Currin, all of Mamers; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the memorial fund of Broadway United Methodist Church or the charity of one's choice.

Smith Funeral Home of Broadway is in charge of arrangements.

James R. Goins
RANDLEMAN - James Robert Goins, 69, of 748 Worthville St., died Sunday, April 14, 2003, at his home.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Midway Wesleyan Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Joe Farlow officiating.

He was a native of Sanford, graduating with the class of 1952 from Sanford Central High School. He was the owner/operator of Goins Food Products.

Surviving are wife, Brenda Swaim Goins of the home; son, Tad Goins of the home; daughters, Tammy Garner of Asheboro and Madeline Blakley of Pinehurst; brother, Johnny Goins of Sanford.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 6-8 p.m. Tuesday; other times at the home.

Atlas A. Greene
SEAGROVE - Atlas A. "Bud" Greene, 84, of 1016 Fork Creek Mill Road, died Saturday, April 12, 2003, at his home.

Graveside service will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Union Grove Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Lee Green and the Rev. Brandon Jordan officiating.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Solomon Islands. He was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church, had retired from Klopman Mills and was known for his rolling pins, bean shooters and walking canes.

Surviving are wife, Elizabeth R. Greene of the home; sons, Larry Greene, Ronald Greene and Leon Greene, all of Asheboro; daughters, Peggy Jordan and Patsy Simmons, both of Seagrove, Tammy Cagle of Asheboro and Lynne Greene of Little River; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Gladys H. Harmon
SEAGROVE - Gladys Hogan Harmon, of 413 South St., died Saturday, April 12, 2003, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation of Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Seagrove United Church of Christ, where she was a member, with the Rev. Robert Boyd officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She was a Montgomery County native and a former treasurer of her church. She was a graduate of Seagrove School and Asheboro Business College. She was secretary of Seagrove School where she was employed for 28 years and received the Outstanding Employee Award in 1989 from the Randolph County Schools prior to her retirement. She was also the recipient of the Outstanding Citizen Award presented by the Seagrove Jaycees and the widow of Roma Harmon.

Surviving are sisters, Marie Malpass of Asheboro and Phronie Harmon of Seagrove; brothers, Ray Hogan of Seagrove and Franklin Hogan of Ellicott City, Md.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Monday; other times at the home.

TROY - James Isaac Saunders, 77, of 165 Aunt Queen Road, died Saturday, April 12, 2003, at his home.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Callicutt Chapel Wesleyan Church, Troy, with the Rev. Lee Fish officiating.

He was a Montgomery County native, a member of Prospect Baptist Church and a self-employed sawmill operator.

Surviving are daughters, Janie Callicutt of the home, Betty Jean Dyer and Brenda Sue Parsons, both of Troy; son, James Ray Saunders of Troy; brothers, Ivy Saunders and Tracy Saunders, both of Troy, Edgar Saunders of Star and Raeford Saunders of Robbins; sister, Nova Owens of Star; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-9 p.m. Monday; other times at the home.

Lucille B. Craven
RAMSEUR - Lucille Britt Craven, 85, died Saturday, April 12, 2003, at Universal Health Care of Ramseur.

Memorial service will be 6 p.m. Wednesday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Jeff Joyce officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County and a retired employee of Klopman Mills of Ramseur.

Surviving are sons, Barry Britt of Greensboro, David Britt of Alamance County; daughters, Argene Kivett of Liberty, Carolene Cross of Franklinville, Rebecca Ashley of Tampa, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 5-6 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Argene Kivett, 7441 Ferguson Road, Liberty.

Naomi S. Johnson
STALEY - Naomi Smith Johnson, 80, of 3101 Charlie Cooper Road, died Monday, April 14, 2003, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation Center, Asheboro.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Loves Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Roy Helms officiating.

She was a native of Chatham County, a retired inspector with Glendale Hosiery and a member of Loves Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are husband, Nat H. Johnson of Staley; daughter, Brenda Wright of Siler City; sister, Marie Wall of Greensboro; one granddaughter.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of the daughter, 105 Messer Drive, Siler City.

ROBBINS - Blanche Garner Moore, 99, of 399 Baxter Road, died Sunday, April 13, 2003, at her home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Acorn Ridge Baptist Church, where she was a member, with Dr. John Williamson, the Rev. Edwin Moore and Eddie Brown officiating. Burial will be in Smyrna United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, the widow of Archie Moore and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Lucille Jones of Bennett, Janelle Garner of Robbins, Brenda Lednum of Ramseur; sons, Ray Moore of Pleasant Garden, James "Wimp" Moore of Robbins, Edwin G. Moore of Stanleytown, Va.; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Acorn Ridge Church 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

She was a native of Chatham County, the widow of Paul Dunn and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughter, Brenda D. Binkley of Bear Creek; son, Raeford Dunn of Bear Creek; brother, Ralph Page of Bear Creek; sisters, Edith P. Bray and Ruth P. Lowman, both of Bear Creek; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

SILER CITY - Mamie Byerly Glosson, 85, of 10198 N.C. 902, Bear Creek, died Monday, April 14, 2003, in Kincaid Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Meroney United Methodist Church, Bear Creek, where she was a member, with the Rev. Hank Sanders and the Rev. David Wade officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Davidson County, a retired employee of A.J. Schneierson & Sons, a Sunday School teacher and a member of the WMU at her church.

Surviving are daughter, Bonnie Jean Buckley of Destin, Fla.; two grandchildren; one great-grandson.

Andrew A. Womble
SILER CITY - Andrew A. "Jim" Womble, 83, of 900 W. Dolphin St., died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at SunBridge Care Facilities, Siler City.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, with the Rev. Derik Davis officiating. Burial will be in Center United Methodist Church Cemetery, Snow Camp.

He was a native of Chatham County and a retired employee of Siler City Mills, Inc.

Surviving are sisters, Pat W. McLaurin of Siler City, Doris W. Coble of Burlington; brother, Curtis Womble of Pittsboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.

RAMSEUR - Ronald Douglas "Doug" Burch, 59, of 1704 Watkins St., died Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at Duke Medical Center, Durham.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sunset Knoll Cemetery, with Jimmy Hill officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County and a retired employee of the N.C. Department of Transportation

Surviving are daughters, Rhonda Kearns of Staley, Julie Shaw of Ramseur; brother, Sonny Burch of Jonesville; sister, Linda Brady of Ramseur; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of Julie Shaw, 413 Kimrey St., Ramseur.

She was a native of Randolph County and a homemaker.
