Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Seventh Day Adventist Church, Greensboro. Burial will follow in the Spinks Family Cemetery, Seagrove.

Surviving are husband, Alfred L. Spinks Sr., of the home; sons, Donald Samuels of Frankfurt, Germany, Melvin Evans of Siler City, James Evans of Richmond, Va., Dennis Cooper of Las Vegas, Nev., Alfred Spinks Jr., of Asheboro; daughters, Carma Alexander of Charlotte, Cheryl Fowler and Valerie Parker, both of Greensboro, Beverly Cassidy of Asheboro; stepdaughters, Sharon Taylor and Debra Thompson, both of Seagrove; 32 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church 7-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Kimes Funeral Service, Liberty, is in charge of arrangements.

ROBBINS - Margaret McCaskill Kennedy, 65, of 7351 N.C. 705, died Monday, July 7, 2003, at her home.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Browns Chapel Christian Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Russell Craddock officiating.

She was a Moore County native and the widow of husbands, Haywood McCaskill and John Robert Kennedy. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are sons, Marvin McCaskill of Carthage, Norman McCaskill of Star and Kenneth McCaskill of Robbins; daughters, Margaret Ann Wilson of Southern Pines and Nancy Jane McCaskill of Robbins; brothers, Richard Burns, Billy Burns and Harvey Burns, all of Coleridge, Harold Ray Burns of Siler City, Clayton Burns of Aberdeen, Roy Burns and Virgil Burns, both of Mt. Airy, and Clarence Burns of Norman; sisters, Judy Burns of Robbins and Ruby Burns of Carthage; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday; other times at the home.

James H. Fields
BEAR CREEK - James Herbert Fields, 85, of 345 Fields Country Road, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at Laurels of Chatham, Pittsboro.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Meroney United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Warren Owens and the Rev. Jim Whittaker officiating.

He was a Chatham County native, of the Methodist faith and a self-employed farmer. He was the widower of Retta Gray Bright Fields.

Surviving are sons, James H. "Rabbit" Fields Jr. and Robert Fields, both of Siler City, and David Fields of Goldston; daughters, Patti F. Seagroves and Brenda F. Shaw, both of Bear Creek; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials may be made to Meroney United Methodist Church Building Fund, 10568 N.C. 902, Bear Creek, N.C. 27207.

H. Hayden Davis
ABERDEEN - H. Hayden Davis, 63, of 116 Country Acres, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Highland Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bill Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in White Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

He was a Moore County native.

Surviving are wife, Carrie Phillips Davis; daughters, Melissa Davis and Andrea Davis; son, Jamie Davis; stepdaughter, Tracy Wood of Laurinburg; stepson, Daniel Wood of Carthage; sisters, Margaret Roberts of Cameron, Dorothy Collier of Carthage; brother, Roger Davis of Carthage; nine grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday; other times at the home.

Alberta L.E. Brower
RAMSEUR - Alberta L.E. Brower, 85, of 4940 CC Square, died Monday, July 7, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Oakland Baptist Church. Burial will be in Oakland-McCrary Cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County and a retired homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Fannie Patterson and Girlena McGee, both of Ramseur; sons, Tracy Brower Jr. of Asheboro, Ezell Brower of Siler City; granddaughter, Ernestine B. Caviness of the home; six grandsons; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 2-3 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

Linnie A. Wilson
THOMASVILLE - Linnie Ann Wilson, 68, of 6650 Blue Quartz Drive, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home, Thomasville, with the Rev. Ray Vaughn officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

She was a native of Stephen County, Ga., a homemaker and a member of Zebulon Baptist Church in Toccoa, Ga.

Surviving are husband, Charles B. Wilson of the home; daughter, Debbie Sarvis of Thomasville; sons, Steve Wilson of Trinity, Mark Wilson of Reidsville; sister, Joyce McIntyre of Cleveland, Ga.; brothers, David Rice of Toccoa, Ga., Wesley Rice of Alabama; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

MT. GILEAD - Charles Edward Whitaker, 71, of Rudisell Road, N.C. 109, died Sunday, July 6, 2003, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday at McAuley Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Maurice O. Hooper Sr. officiating. Burial will be in McAuley Gardens of Memory.

He was a native of Moore County, the widower of Katie Wooley Whitaker and a retired employee of C&A of Troy.

Surviving are daughters, Carol Whitaker of the home, Diane Clark of Brooklyn, N.Y.; sisters, Ethel McNeill and Beverly Millard, both of Philadelphia, Pa., Genetta Jones of Hackensack, N.J.; brother, Earl Whitaker of Santa Ana, Calif.; one granddaughter.

The family will be at Harris Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, 7-8 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

ASHEBORO - Geneva Gertrude Davis, 90, of SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation of Asheboro, died Thursday, July 10, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Fran Moran officiating. Burial will follow in Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a Randolph County native, a member of Calvary United Meth-odist Church and retired from Randolph Mills.

Surviving are sisters, Phillis Tuttle of Greensboro and Kathleen Lemon of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home Saturday, one hour prior to the service.

ASHEBORO - Madge Sparks Havens, 82, of 1313 Meadowbrook Road, Asheboro, died Thursday, July 10, 2003, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church Christian Life Center with Dr. John S. Rogers and the Rev. Mark Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Belmont and a member of First Baptist Church. She was a retired school teacher, homemaker and former employee of Fashion Fabrics.

Surviving are husband, Eugene C. Havens; sons, Charles E. Havens, Frank M Havens of Asheboro; daughter, Ellen H. Curlee of Greensboro; brother, Charles R. Sparks of Belmont; sister, Gaynelle Curlee of Stanley; five grandchildren.

The family will be at the Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-8 p.m. Saturday.

FRANKLINVILLE - Leora Pugh Boone, 83, of 1968 NC 22, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Pastor Danny Jarrell officiating. Burial will follow in Grays Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a Randolph County native and retired from J.P. Stevens. She was a member of To God Be The Glory Ministries, Seagrove.

Surviving are daughter, Bobbie Flinchum of Frank-linville; sons, Bill Boone of Hartwell, Ga., and Kenneth Bryson of Asheboro; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Martha H. Keck
BEAR CREEK - Martha Hart Keck, 82, of 4156 Pittsboro-Goldston Road, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at Kellers Oak Haven Retirement, Sanford.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Antioch Christian Church, Bear Creek, where she was a member, with the Rev. Clark Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She was a Chatham County and a homemaker. She was the widow of Alton H. "Murph" Keck.

Surviving are sons, Wayne Keck and Randy Keck, both of Bear Creek; daughters, Peggy Riddle and Linda Kelly, both of Sanford, Glendale Carpenter of Pittsboro and Faye Boys of Bear Creek; sister, Sally Webster of Dallas, Ga.; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City 7-9 p.m. Friday; other times at the family home.

Nora C. Lucas
STAR - Nora Cathleen Lucas, 71, of 361 Lucas Road, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at First-Health Montgomery Me-morial Hospital, Troy.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Suggs Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Thornton Manley and Elder John Winfield officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She was a Montgomery County native and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Robert C. Lucas, of the home; daughters, Janice Stutts of Ether, Frances Mabe of Seagrove, Joyce Parsons of Candor and Karen Smith of Star; sons, Mitchell Lucas of Mt. Gilead, Steve Lucas of Concord and Andy Lucas of Star; sisters, Elizabeth Lura Robbins of Star, Sarah Louise Sheffield of Asheboro and Edith Ann Kern of Denton; half-brother, Henry Moody Robbins of Sun City Center, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

Jimmie Nuckols
DENTON - Jimmie Corbin "Nuck" Nuckols, 71, of 202 Greenbrier Drive, died Thursday, July 10, 2003, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Denton, where he was a member, with the Rev. Dan Money and the Rev. Jack Stratus officiating.

He was a native of Logan County, Ky. He attended Lindsey Wilson Junior College in Kentucky and Pfeiffer College on basketball scholarships. He was a veteran of the Kentucky National Guard, a member of the Denton Amvet Post #240 and a retired foreman with the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

Surviving are wife, Nancy Loftin Nuckols, of the home; daughter, Cindy Nuckols of Greensboro; mother, Tempie Nole of Auburn, Ky.; brother, Jerry Nole of Bowling Green, Ky.; sister, Lois Rae Nole of Auburn, Ky.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday; other times at the home.

LEXINGTON - Bobby Joe Alexander, 72, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003.

He was a Guilford County native and retired from Miller Desk where he was machine room foreman. He was a member of Kennedy Road Baptist Church.

Surviving are wife, Betty Hunt Alexander, of the home; daughters, Deborah Hardister of Tho-masville, Sharon Alexander and Lori Ann Ammons, both of Asheboro and Saundra Alexander of Archdale; sons, Joe Don Alexander, Robert Wayne Alexander and Jimmy Ray "Tiny" Alexander, all of Thomasville and Thomas Eric Alexander of Lorton, Va.; sister, Peggy Horne of High Point; 15 grandchildren.

The family will be at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home, Friday, 7-9 p.m.; other times at the home.

ASHEBORO - Raymond James Maness, 84, of 323 E. Kivett St., Asheboro, died Thursday, July 10, 2003, at his home.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Oaklawn Cemetery, with the Rev. George McDowell officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Ruth Maness and a retired painter and wall paper hanger. He was a member of Woodmen of the World and American Legion Post 45 and a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.

Surviving are daughters, Carol Ruth West of Randleman, Betty Lauer of York, Pa.; sister, Evelyn Davidson of Asheboro; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Helen H. Kidd
SHALLOTE - Helen Harris Kidd, 79, of Pender Road SW, died Thursday, July 10, 2003, in Brunswick Community Hospital, Supply.

Funeral service will be 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Brunswick Funeral Service, Shallotte, with the Rev. David Stratton officiating. Burial will be in Brunswick Memorial Gardens.

She was a native of Alexander County, a member of Brunswick Island Baptist Church and a retired spinner of Burlington Industries.

Surviving are husband, Henry Kidd; son, Harry Kidd of Asheboro; brothers, Paul Harris of Bennett, Fred Harris of Greensboro, Harold Harris of Ramseur; sisters, Mary Neil Thomas, Virginia Thomas, Jeannie Hunt, Winnie Long, all of Asheboro, Ruby Oats of Bennett; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Sunday.

She was a native of Forsyth County, the widow of John Curtis Cole and a member of Edgewood Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughters, Larue Arton and "Jerry" Brinegar, both of Winston-Salem; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Randolph County and the widow of J Elwood Cox. She was a member of Central Falls United Methodist Church, where she was a former Sunday School teacher and member of the Women's Circle and a retired employee of Central Fall's Burlington Mills plant after 45 years.

Surviving are sons, Cecil Cox of Havelock, Darrell Cox of Asheboro; daughter, Annice C. McDowell of Asheboro; sisters, Louise U. Redding of Asheboro, Mildred U. Melts of New Port Richey, Fla.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Marlboro Friends Meeting, with the Rev. Billy Britt, the Rev. John Sides and the Rev. Hank Williams officiating. Burial will be in the meeting cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Joseph O'Neil Ridge, a member of South Plainfield Friends Meeting, a homemaker and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #210.

Surviving are son, Phillip O. Ridge of Randleman; daughters, Jean Hinshaw of Mocksville, Sue Ellen Modlin of Archdale, Lynne Morgan of Chapel Hill, Jo Annette Kelley of Waynesville; sisters, Lola M. Davis, Marie M. Hill, Ina Lee M. White, all of Archdale, Bernice M. Davis of Randleman; eight grandchildren.

He was a native of Randolph County and employed with North Carolina Furniture Direct as a furniture salesman.

Surviving are daughter, Tiffany Dawkins of Sophia; mother and stepfather, Judy and Bruce Shaw of Asheboro; father and stepmother, Dave and Kathy Dawkins of Roanoke, Va.; sisters, Karen Cooper of Climax, Amy Miller and Heather Heitz, both of Charlottesville, Va., Jill Dawkins of Roanoke, Va.; grandparents, Elsie Andrews of Randleman, Betty and John Johnson of High Point.
