A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Steve McSwain and the Rev. Thurman Williams officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County, a truck driver for Ampace Freightlines and a member of Harvest Field Baptist Church.

Surviving are wife, June Smith Overton of the home; son, the Rev. Faron Overton of Asheboro; sister, Minnie Hopkins of Asheboro; brothers, Walter Overton, Lacy Overton, both of Asheboro, Clyde Overton of Moyock; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of the son, 6579 King Mountain Road, Asheboro.

Barbara H. Merrill

Barbara Ann Hare Merrill, 59, of 634 Eastwood Drive, Asheboro, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Dr. John Rogers and the Rev. Ron Greene officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and retired from First National Bank after 24 years.

Surviving are husband, Bobby Merrill; daughter, Cathy M. Pugh of Asheboro; son, Brant Merrill of Hickory; sisters, Mozelle Allred of Asheboro, Clara Lee Fields of Sanford; three grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

RANDLEMAN - Claude Franklin Toomes II, 44, of 10353 U.S. 220 Business North, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Level Cross Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Jerry Mills officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, employed with Duke Power Company for 15 years, a volunteer with Level Cross Fire Department, a former CPR instructor with American Red Cross and former owner of Toomes Garage.

Surviving are wife, Sharon Crockett Toomes of Randleman; daughters, Kristin Toomes, Hannah Toomes, both of Randleman; parents, Hammer and Cindy Rayle Toomes of Randleman; sister, Joni T. Knight of Randleman; brother, Terry Toomes of Randleman.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

SEAGROVE - Thelma Brown Phillips, 78, of 8349 Erect Road, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Larry Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Needhams Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and retired from B.B. Walker Shoe Co.

Surviving are sons, Edward Manuel Phillips of Asheboro, Harvey Lee Phillips of Greenville, S.C.; daughter, Nettie Ruth Phillips Davis of Seagrove; brothers, Hardin Brown, Junior Brown, both of Seagrove, Farrell Brown of Eagle Springs; sisters, Ola Teague of Robbins, Annie Chriscoe, Ruby Chriscoe, Lorrette Spencer, all of Seagrove; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

GREENSBORO - Ruby Reynolds Greeson, 86, of Liberty Road, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998, at her home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, with Dr. Bruce A. Havens and Dr. Melvin Palmer officiating. Burial will be in Gilmore Memorial Park.

She was a native of Guilford County, the widow of Roy Greeson, a homemaker, flower vendor at Greensboro Farmers' Market and was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Greensboro and the Bertha Work Sunday School class.

Surviving is brother, H.W. "Locky" Reynolds of Liberty.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

RANDLEMAN - Betty Saunders McDaniels, 72, of 213 Depot St., died Friday, Aug. 7, 1998, at her home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, with the Rev. Ron Applegate and the Rev. Junior Dawkins officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Suffolk, Va., had worked for several years at Belk Yates, Asheboro, and was a member of Worthville Baptist Church.

Surviving are husband, Billy Gray McDaniels of Randleman; daughter, Patsy M. Adtkins of Monroe, Mich.; son, Terry Ray McDaniels of Franklinville; two grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Cumby Funeral Home, Eastchester Drive, High Point, with the Rev. Carroll M. Upton officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Stokes County, the widow of William Harrell and a homemaker.

She was a native of Randolph County, a 1953 graduate of Farmer High School and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Calvin K. Gallimore of the home; sons, Jeffrey Gallimore, Gary Gallimore, both of Denton; daughters, Wadene Sanders, Annette Stutts, Renee Gallimore, Pansy Frank, all of Denton; brothers, Jack Lanier, Richard Lanier, both of Denton, the Rev. Gerald Lanier of Midland; sisters, Alma Frye of Seagrove, Betty Russell of Asheboro; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday.

DENTON - Ethel Ruth Davis, 80, of Anderson Street, died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998, at Community General Hospital, Thomasville.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Vern Peterson and the Rev. Jeff Lamb officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Cambria County, Pa., was the manager of South Main Laundry in Denton for 30 years, was a Sunday School teacher at her church and was a graduate of Nanty-Glo High School in Pennsylvania.

Surviving are daughter, Ruth D. Hulin of Denton; brother, Charles Davis of Norton, Ohio; sister, Sally Snider of Lexington; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home of the daughter, on Hulin-McDowell Road.

Annie Mae Lucas Nelson, 88, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 1998, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation Center.

A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Auman-Lucas Family Cemetery, with the Rev. Jamie Hinson officiating.

She was a hosiery mill employee.

SILER CITY - Mark Anthony Dickerson, 21, of 571 Buck Gunter Road, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 1998, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, with the Rev. David Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Goldston Cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County and employed with Jennifer Warehousing in Siler City.

Surviving are mother, Phyllis Hicks Dickerson of Siler City; father, Tony R. Dickerson of Franklinville; sisters, Angela D. Hilliard of Siler City, Jeanna Lynn Dickerson of Greensboro; grandmother, Beulah C. Hicks of Goldston.

MT. GILEAD - Janie Lefler Byrd, 57, of 2121 N.C. 73 West, died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998, at Richmond Memorial Hospital, Rockingham.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Little River United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ben Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Richmond County and a retired employee of Russell-Harvelle Hosiery Mill in Mt. Gilead.

Surviving are husband, Johnny M. Byrd of Star; daughter, Teresa B. Eddins of Mt. Gilead; brothers, Bobby Lefler of Carthage, Michael Lefler of Troy, Jim Lefler, Jerry Lefler, both of Mt. Gilead; sisters, Edna Thompson of Troy, Kay Moore of Rockingham, Virginia Harris, Dorothy Brookshire, Rachel Bowles, Brenda Thompson, Janet Dangler, all of Mt. Gilead; two grandchildren.

He was a native of Moore County and retired from Klopman Mills.
