DENTON - Stella Stafford Elliott, 93, of Mountain Vista Health Park, formerly of New Hope Road, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at Mountain Vista.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Gospel Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Don Jarrell, the Rev. Lee Roy Hunt and the Rev. Gerald Lanier officiating.

She was a native of Davidson County, the widow of Lloyd L. Elliott, a homemaker and a member of Calvary Gospel Church.

Surviving are daughter, Betty Fowler of Denton; one grandchild; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at the home of Donald Fowler, 5653 New Hope Road, Denton.

Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, is in charge of arrangements.

ROBBINS - Betsy Freeman Mashburn, 70, of 1250 N. Moore Road, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at her home.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Highfalls United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. C. Gene Booker officiating.

She was a native of Moore County and a member of Highfalls United Methodist Church.

Surviving are sons, Terry L. Mashburn of Siler City, Keith B. Mashburn of Asheboro; daughter, Sherri M. Moore of Robbins; sisters, Nell F. Bray of Robbins, Frances F. Helson of Indiana; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

Ruth D. Beal
SILER CITY - Ruth Dowd Beal, 83, of 99 Bruce Phillips Road, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, in Laurels of Chatham, Pittsboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Antioch Christian Church, Bear Creek, where she was a member, with the Rev. Darrell Garner, the Rev. Clark Davis and the Rev. Robert Capps officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County, the widow of Edwin Brooks and Arlie Beal, a homemaker and a member of the Ladies Sunday School Class and Ladies Aid Society at her church.

Surviving are daughters, Linda B. Cheek and Marie Phillips, both of Bear Creek, Joyce Hilliard of Goldston; brothers, Charlie Dowd, Shelley Dowd, Thomas Dowd, Graham Dowd and Jim Dowd, all of Siler City; eight grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; two stepgreat-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Doris Malone Daniels, 65, formerly of Albany, Ga., died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at Piedmont Medical Center, Rock Hill, S.C.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Crown Hill Cemetery, Albany, Ga., with Dr. Donald M. Kea officiating.

She was a native of Asheboro, the widow of L. Carl Daniels and a member of First United Methodist Church in Albany, Ga.

Surviving are sons, L. Carl "Danny" Daniels Jr. of Waxhaw, Clay M. Daniels of Rock Hill, S.C.; sisters, Hilda Hayes and Anne Seals, both of Charlotte, Sandra O'Hara of Weddington, Margaret Brady of Asheboro; brothers, Ray Malone of Bremen, Ga., Sam Malone of Rapid City, S.D., Jack Malone and Joe Malone, both of Asheboro; three grandchildren.

Velna B. Hussey
ROBBINS - Mrs. Velna Brady Hussey, 83, of 2127 Wilson Road, passed away Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at Pinehurst Nursing Center.

Funeral services will be Wednesday 2 p.m. at Joyce-Brady Funeral Home Chapel in Bennett, with Pastor Robert L. Kidd officiating. Burial will be in Highfalls Friends Cemetery.

Mrs. Hussey was a Randolph County native, a member of Deep River Baptist Church in Coleridge and she formerly worked at Collins & Aikman in Siler City.

Mrs. Hussey is survived by husband, M. Graham Hussey of the home; daughter, Martha Ann Nichols of Pinebluff; sister, Betsy Jean Cheek of Ramseur; brother, O.C. Brady Jr. of Staley; grandchildren, Gail Prevatte, Mark Nichols and Sarah Nichols, all of Pinebluff; four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at Joyce-Brady Funeral Home.

Bill Bridges
ASHEBORO - William Edward "Bill" Bridges Sr., 74, of 1931 Greenwood Road, Asheboro, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Balfour Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Gene Booker officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Shelby, a graduate of Shelby High School and a graduate of Wake Forest University. He was a U.S. Air Force Korean War veteran, retired from Burlington Industries and Ramseur Interlock as Human Resource Director, a Mason and member of Balfour Lodge #188 AF&AM and a deacon at his church.

Surviving are wife, Audrey Greer Bridges; sons, William Edward "Billy" Bridges Jr. of Asheboro, Jonathan Christopher "Chris" Bridges of Cheraw, S.C.; mother, Jeslyn C. Bridges of Shelby; six grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.

ASHEBORO - Eva Lawson Jordan, 82, of Universal Health Care of Ramseur, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003, at Universal Health Care.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Garry L. Reeder officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Christian Church Cemetery.

She was a member of Union Grove Christian Church, the widow of Lacy Jordan, a retired employee of General Electric and a CONTACT Crisis line volunteer.

Surviving are daughters, Ann Caudill and Linda Bralley, both of Asheboro, Kathy Osborne of Hillsborough; sister, Annie Ruth Frazier of Asheboro; brother, Glenn Lawson of Jamestown; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

ASHEBORO - Linda Frances Parnell Lamm, 55, of 3089 Trotter Road, Lot B, Asheboro, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Harvest Field Baptist Church, with the Rev. Faron Overton officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, formerly employed as a C.N.A. at Randolph Hospital and she attended Harvest Field Baptist Church.

Surviving are sister, Brenda Dunn of Asheboro; brothers, Lonnie Clyde Parnell of Staley, Glenn Parnell of Asheboro.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Glenn Parnell, 6491 King Mountain Road, Asheboro.

ASHEBORO - DeTony McRae Snipes, 20, of 610 Douglas St., Durham, formerly of Asheboro, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, at Wake Medical Center, Raleigh.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Look to Jesus Church, with the Rev. Dexter Trogdon officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvery Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County.

Surviving are mother and stepfather, Teresa Snipes Holt and Stacy F. Holt of Durham; grandparents, Ethel Mae Snipes and John W. Snipes; brother, Michael D. Snipes of Asheboro.

The family will be at the church 1-2 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service.

DENTON - Wanda Sue Cross Tysinger, 44, of Checkmark Road, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Taylor's Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Tommy Tysinger officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Davidson County and an employee with Wal Mart in Asheboro.

Surviving are husband, W. Stewart Tysinger of the home; son, Dustin Tysinger of the home; daughter, Monica Tysinger of the home; stepdaughter, Nicole Hughes of Denton; mother and stepfather, Ruth and Larry Hogan of Denton; sisters, Tammy Turner of Denton, Kathy Sanders of Leland; stepbrothers, Dennis Hogan of Denton, Tony Hogan of Forest City.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

BISCOE - John Anderson McCollum, 79, of 401 Lambert Road, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at Autumn Care of Biscoe.

Memorial graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Mt. Gilead, with the Rev. Gary Rutherford officiating.

He was a native of Montgomery County.

Ossie B. Freeman
ROBBINS - Ossie Brown Freeman, 95, of 116 Green St., died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Keith Miller officiating. Burial will be in Pine Rest Cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, a member of United Methodist Women, a graduate of Elise Academy and a retired employee of Carthage Fabrics Co. She formerly attended Elon College.

Surviving are sons, Jimmy Freeman of Fairfax, Va., John Freeman of Randleman, Arnold Freeman of Robbins; daughters, Pat F. Voss of Nags Head, Brenda F. Montjoy of Robbins; sister, Lucile B. Bridgeman of Laurinburg; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

PITTSBORO - Curtis Britton Womble, 85, of 2210 Van Thomas Road, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at SunBridge Care Facilities, Siler City.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at South Fork Friends Church, Snow Camp, with the Rev. Ronn Oren and the Rev. Winfred Crouse officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, the widower of Leona Lindley Womble, a member of Rives Chapel Baptist Church, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and retired from John Wilson and Sons, Mebane, as a heavy equipment operator.

Surviving are sisters, Doris W. Coble of Alamance, Pat W. McLaurin of Siler City.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Elsie M. Lindley, 2460 Van Thomas Road, Pittsboro.

CARROLLTON, Ga. - James F. Burns, 60, of 3892 Carrollton Tyus Road, formerly of Robbins, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Tyus Baptist Church, Tyus, Ga.

Surviving are wife, Nita B. Burns; sons, James M. Burns of Seattle, Wash., Jonathan D. Burns of Carrollton, Ga.; mother, Ardena B. Lewis of Robbins; sisters, Ruby B. Brown of Carthage, Mennie B. Ritter and Virginia B. Montjoy, both of Robbins, Anise B. Castleberry of Alpharetta, Ga.; one grandson.

ASHEBORO - Robert Glen Holt Sr., 98, of 711 Holly St., Asheboro, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home in Asheboro.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, at First United Methodist Church, Asheboro, with the Rev. Michael Holder and the Rev. Martha Welch officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Mr. Holt was born in Stanly County on July 29, 1905, the son of the late David and Eliza Rummage Holt. He was educated in Stanly County Schools and worked for the H.P. Efird Co., which was a dealer for International Harvester. He moved to Asheboro in 1943 to work with his brother, the late D.W. Holt, in his International Harvester dealership. He was a member of First United Methodist Church for 59 years where he served in numerous capacities. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert G. Holt Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Mary Thompson Holt of the home; daughters, Betty Holt Elliott and husband, J.W., of Carthage, Patty Holt Brown of Gastonia; son, David H. Holt and wife, Helen, of Kernersville; daughter-in-law, Peggy Holt of Asheboro; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Ridge Funeral Home in Asheboro on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, from 6-8 p.m., and other times at the home.

FRANKLINVILLE - Billie Jones Williams, 72, of 433 Depot St., died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003, at her home.

She was a native of Randolph County, a retired employee of Acme-McCrary Corp. and a church treasurer, sexton, pianist and member of the Wo-men's Fellowship.

Surviving are sons, Steve Williams of Randleman, Danny Williams of Newport News, Va., Jody Williams of Asheboro; daughters, Cynthia Joyce of Siler City, Suzanne Ray of Asheboro; sister, Brenda Reid of Asheboro; brother, Bobby Jones of Asheboro; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Gaston County and an employee of Oliver Rubber Company.

Surviving are wife, Susan Hutchins Lewis of the home; daughters, Erika Lewis of Dallas, Tara Ballard of Hildebran; stepson, Wade Christopher Culberson of Siler City.

MT. GILEAD - John Charles Covington, 76, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, at Evans Rest Home.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Covington Family Cemetery, Rockingham, with the Rev. Kenneth Covington officiating.

He was a native of Richmond County and in the grocery store business.

Surviving is sister, Jessie Marie Covington of Hendersonville, Tenn.

THOMASVILLE, Ga. - Jack Grayson Saunders, 75, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003, at Archbold Memorial Hospital.

Graveside service was 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at Laurel Hill Cemetery, with Pastor Caryl Martinez and Charles King Sr. officiating.

He was a native of Asheboro and a retired teacher of Bainbridge College.

Surviving are wife, Maxine McCoy Saunders; daughter, Jackie Sheffield of Donalsonville, Ga.; sons, Shane Saunders of Donalsonville, Ga., Kenneth Rish of Thomasville, Ga., Claude Rish of Panama City, Fla.; four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Balfour Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Booker officating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park.

Mr. Bridges was a native of Shelby, a graduate of Shelby High School and a graduate of Wake Forest University. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and retired from Burlington Industries and Ramseur Interlock as Human Resource Director. He was a Mason and a member of Balfour Lodge #188 AF&AM and a member of Balfour Baptist Church, where he was an active deacon.

Bridges of Shelby; granddaughter, Erin Elizabeth Bridges; grandsons, Matthew Bridges, David Bridges, Clayton Bridges, Cuentin Bridges; granddaughter, Jesslyn Lee Bridges.
