DENTON - Christopher Bynum Younts, 4 months old, of Capistranio Shores Lane, Lexington, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Faith Baptist Church, with the Rev. Frankie Moretz and the Rev. Charles Dickens officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Davidson County.

Surviving are parents, Wayne and Kari A. Younts of the home; brother, Frankie Younts of the home; grandparents, Stevie and Doretta Younts of Lexington, Bill and Christi Tadlock of Winston-Salem; great-grandparents, Lois Carrick and Earnest Tadlock, both of Lexington, Bill and Mary Rominger of Walkertown.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Lois Carrick, Shiptontown Road.

ROBBINS - Andrew Walter Spivey, 78, of 640 Rushwood Road, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, in the VA Hospital, Durham.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, with the Rev. Jimmy Shirlen officiating. Burial will be in Pine Rest Cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and a retired employee of Milliken Co.

Surviving are wife, Jacqueline Wallace Spivey of the home; sons, Poodle Spivey of Biscoe, Tut Spivey of Robbins; daughter, Kim S. Hussey of Robbins; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Tut Spivey, 479 Rushwood Road.

Joseph A. Harden
VASS - Joseph Allen Harden, 19, of 616 Morrison Bridge Road, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gregg Newton officiating.

He was a native of Indiana, a graduate of Union Pines High School and an employee of Sandhills Bowling Center, Aberdeen.

Surviving are parents, Russell and Teena Comer of Vass; sister, Hannah Marie Comer of the home; grandparents, Ronnie and Vicky Comer of Cameron; great-grandparents, Paschal and Pansy Teague of Vass, Lewis and Dolly Marion of Cameron.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

Dora K. Strider
ASHEBORO - Dora Jean Kearns Strider, 93, formerly of Seagrove, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at her daughter's residence, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Seagrove United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bill Foust, the Rev. Fran Moran and the Rev. Joe Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church cemetery.

Mrs. Strider was a native of Randolph County and raised in the Methodist Protestant Children's Home in High Point. She was a member of Seagrove United Methodist Church and the widow of Pink Strider. She was formerly employed as a registered nurse for Griffin Clinic in Asheboro and retired from Randolph Hospital Inc.

Surviving are daughter, Doris Barrett of Asheboro; granddaughter and husband, Gina and Tony Garner of Asheboro, grandson, Jay Leach; great-grandchildren, Spencer Garner and Kayla Garner, both of Asheboro; twin sister, Ora Cagle of Pisgah.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, at the Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, and other times at 3502 Midway Acres Road, Asheboro.

Beverly C. Butcher
RANDLEMAN - Beverly Crowson Butcher, 66, of 5225 Old Greensboro Road, Randleman, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, in Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service was 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, in the Loflin Funeral Home Chapel in Liberty, with the Rev. Kenneth Reeves officiating. Burial followed in Gilmore Memorial Park in Julian.

She was a native of Randolph County, retired from Jockey International in Randleman and a member of First Baptist Church in Randleman. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Gladys Staley Crowson and was preceded in death by her sister, Brenda Crowson Ferguson.

Surviving are daughter, Karen Butcher of Randleman; sons, Jeffrey Butcher of Randleman, Randy Butcher and his wife Darlene of Asheboro, Michael Butcher and his wife Nell of Lexington, and Eddie Butcher and his wife Doris of Seagrove; brothers, Paul Crowson and his wife Clara of Haw River, Johnny Crowson and his wife Terri of Alabama, Bill Crowson and his wife Barbara of Winston-Salem, Joe Crowson and his wife Sudy of Archdale and Tommy Crowson and his wife Linda of Siler City; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family received friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Loflin Funeral Home in Liberty and other times at the residence.

Memorials may be made to Randolph Cancer Center, 713 S. Fayetteville St., Asheboro, N.C. 27203.

Leo B. Routh
PLANO, Texas - Leo Burton "Paw" Routh, age 73, passed away Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, in Plano.

He was born on Dec. 11, 1930, in Asheboro to Claude and Jean Trotter Routh.

He is survived by a son, Donald Routh and wife Jeanette of Georgia; daughter, Peggy Lassiter and husband Bobby of Georgia; brothers, Allen, Thomas, Milton and Clinton Routh; sisters, Jessie Massey, Kate Hollingsworth, Helen Campbell, Gladys Brown and Bobbie Jean Lineberry, all of North Carolina; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; dear and special friend, Mary Angel of Plano, Texas, and her sisters, Faye Talley and Dorothy Judd of Plano, Texas; special friends, Doyle Mitchell, A.R. Mitchell, Clyde Mitchell and Brent Mitchell.

He is preceded in death by brothers, J.F. Routh and Neal Routh, and sisters, Velma Routh and Mabel Staley. Leo was a very giving man who always wanted to help others. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

A visitation was held Sunday, Dec. 21, from 6-8 p.m. at Ted Dickey Funeral Home, Plano, Texas. Funeral service will be Monday, Dec. 22, at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Plano Mutual Cemetery.

Ray Marion
ASHEBORO - Charles Ray Marion, 74, of 5126 Reeder Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at Duke University Medical Center.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Randolph Memorial Park with military honors.

He was a native of Surry County, a retired employee of Klopman Mills in Central Falls and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are wife, Ilene Callahan Marion; daughters, Mona Rae M. Scott and Charlon M. McNeill, both of Seagrove, Faith M. Jarrell of Randleman; son, J.C. Marion of the home; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

P. Raymond Tedder
ASHEBORO - Phillip Raymond Tedder, 80, of 152 Anchor Drive, Asheboro, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oakhurst Baptist Church, with Dr. Richard Crider and the Rev. Billy Jarrett officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Conie Bray Tedder, a member of Flag Springs United Methodist Church, a retired employee of Union Carbide and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Ruth Gallimore Tedder of the home; daughters, Phyllis Lawson, Peggy Cox and Faye Byrd, all of Asheboro; son, Darrell Tedder of Asheboro; stepdaughter, Bonnie Blue of Fayetteville; stepson, Samuel Briles of Asheboro; sisters, Carrie Hayes of Kannapolis, Lucy Rice of Asheboro; brothers, Resal Tedder and Randy Tedder, both of Asheboro; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

Braxton T. Cross
RANDLEMAN - Braxton Tyler Cross, infant son of Roger Cross Jr. and Brittany Saunders of 620 Worthville St., died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Faith Temple Baptist Church Cemetery, Franklinville, with the Rev. Jeff Joyce officiating.

Surviving in addition to the parents are grandparents, Carla Earnhardt of Asheboro, Roger Cross of Randleman, Krista Childress of Franklinville; great-grandparents, Terri and Robert Mintz and Herbert and Peggy Cross, all of Randleman, Mike Earnhardt of High Point, Barbara Trogdon of Franklinville; great-great-grandmother, Louise Reynolds of Randleman.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 1-2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Emma R. Smith
STALEY - Emma Julia Ramsey Smith, 72, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at her home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at White Cross Baptist Church, with the Rev. Troy Brown officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Rockingham County and the widow of Willard P. "Bill" Smith.

Surviving are daughters, Frances A. Boyck, Katie R. Collins of Maxton, Linda S. Jenkins of Staley; sons, Marshall D. "Red" Smith of Graham, Willard Eugene Smith and Roger D. Smith, both of Liberty, Pete Smith of Staley; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, is in charge of arrangements.

Sudie H. Battle
DENTON - Sudie Inez Hansley Battle, 98, of 1042 Piedmont School Road, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, in Norfolk, Va.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Central United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Kerry Fralic and the Rev. Chris Smith officiating. Burial will be in Denton Town Cemetery.

She was a native of Swansboro, Ga., the widow of George Edwin "Ed" Battle and a volunteer at the Davidson County Seniors Services, Denton. She was a member of the Young at Heart Club, a past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter # 216 in Denton, a past member of the Denton Woman's Club and owner of the Spinning Wheel Gift Shop.

Surviving are daughter, Martha Ann B. Wages of Norfolk, Va.; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at the church 1-2 p.m. Tuesday.

Bessie J. Wright
BISCOE - Bessie Jane Wright, 94, of 435 Wright Road, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at her home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cornerstone Baptist Church, where she was a charter member, with Dr. W.E. McPeters and the Rev. Gary Long officiating. Burial will be in Biscoe Cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, co-founder of the W.C. Wright Fellowship Center and former owner of The Wright Shop, Biscoe.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

Haskell D. Taylor
ASHEBORO - Haskell Dean Taylor, 68, of 400 Vision Drive, Asheboro, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be held at a later date.

He was a native of Grayson County, Va.

Surviving are brothers, Harry Taylor of Asheboro and David O. Taylor of Durham.

Helen B. Harris
BENNETT - Helen Bumgarner Harris, 76, of 6706 Clipwood Road, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Grove Christian Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Thurman Williams officiating. Entombment will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Caldwell County and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Paul Harris of the home; sons, Bruce Harris of Robbins, Ronnie Harris of Bennett; daughters, Brenda King of Asheboro, Reita Brown of Bennett, Rose Dunn of Ramseur, Peggy Howard of Robbins; sister, Mattie Lou Goble of Granite Falls; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 12:30-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Joe Brown officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, an honor roll student at Asheboro High School, a member of his high school ROTC and a member of Hill Top Baptist Church.

Surviving are parents, Joey and Elaine Bunting of the home; sister, JoAnn Lynn Bunting of the home; grandmothers, Joyce F. Conner and Rona Bunting, both of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

Charlie R. Burke
ASHEBORO - Charlie Rosser Burke, 80, of 230 E. Presnell. St., Asheboro, formerly of Siler City, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, at Mariner Health Care, Asheboro.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Rives Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, Siler City, with the Rev. Larry Soblotne officiating.

He was a native of Chatham County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a retired auto mechanic.

Surviving are wife, Durema Dowd Burke of Asheboro; son, Charlie W. Burke of Asheboro; sisters, Marjorie Clark and Emma Moore, both of Siler City; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-8:30 p.m. Friday.

Eva M. Head
ASHEBORO - Eva Myrtle Head, 92, of 230 E. Presnell St., Asheboro, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at Mariner Health Care.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Louisville Memorial Gardens, Louisville, Ky.

She was a native of Louisville, Ky., the widow of Carl B. Head, a retired employee of Atlanta Public Library and a member of Christian Missionary Alliance.

Surviving are son, David Head of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter, Carolyn Lake of Randleman; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.

Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, is in charge of arrangements.

RANDLEMAN - Michael Thomas "Mickey" Raby, 61, of 441 High Point St., died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at Wesley Long Community Hospital, Greensboro.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Randolph Memorial Park. Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman.

He was a graduate of Randleman High School and of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Surviving are sisters, Sandra R. Redding and Teresa R. Memory, both of Greensboro.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Audrey P. Roberts
RANDLEMAN - Audrey "Mammer" Phillips Roberts, 79, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003.

A private family service was held.

She was a Jehovah's Witness, the widow of Edison Blaine Roberts and formerly employed at A Cleaner World, Sears and The Courier-Tribune.

Surviving are daughters, Vinetta Parrett, Veda "Bumpy" Lashley, Esther Hall, PJ Varner, Etta "Eddie Rosa" Jacobs, Elizabeth Roever; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five brothers; four sisters.

George Brothers Funeral Service, Greensboro, is in charge of arrangements.

Donald F. Russell
RANDLEMAN - Donald Ferrel Russell, 75, of 4666 U.S. 311, Sophia, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, with the Rev. Walter Lilly officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County, an employee with Klopman Mills/Bur-lington Industries and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict era.

Surviving are wife, Eloise Navy Russell of Sophia; daughters, Lise Cooke of Summerfield, Gwen Nelson of Randleman; sons, Farrell Russell of Albuquerque, N.M., Dale Russell of Randleman; sisters, Mary Smith and Janice Collins, both of Salisbury; brothers, Kenneth Russell of Salisbury, Johnny Russell of Lewisville, James Russell of Virginia, Millard Russell of Charlotte; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
