TROY - Jesse Roosevelt Morris, 90, of 917 Ophir Ave., died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, at Pinehurst Nursing Care, Pinehurst.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy.

Chris J. Caddell

CARTHAGE - Chris Jernigan Caddell, 44, of Mine Road, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service was 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Al Martin, the Rev. D.C. Sullivan and Dr. W. J. Maness Jr. officiating. Burial was 1 p.m. in the Caddell family cemetery in Hoffman.

She was Assistant Clerk of Moore County Superior Court for 28 years.

Surviving are husband, L. D. Caddell Jr.; son, Trey Caddell of the home; parents, Ed and Edith Jernigan of Carthage; sister, Libby McNamara of Carthage; brother, Edward Jernigan of Raleigh.

Fry-Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, was in charge of the arrangements.

Estelle B. Crutchfield
Estelle Bilger Crutchfield, 88, of Sunrise Care Center, Asheboro, formerly of N.C. 22 South, Ramseur, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur.

Hoyle L. Moore

Hoyle Lee Moore, 87, of 840 Occoneechee Ave., Asheboro, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Charlie Miller and the Rev. Todd Moore officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Beatrice Pearce Moore, a charter member of Asheboro Baptist Church and was retired from Acme-McCrary.

Surviving are sons, Cecil Moore of Asheboro, Terry Moore of Apex, Bryson Moore of Gallatin, Tenn.; sisters, Genie Kiser, Annie Graves, both of Seagrove, Mary Downes of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of a granddaughter, Lynn Owens, 5209 Zoo Parkway, Asheboro.

Memorials may be made to West Asheboro Baptist Church, 831 Uwharrie St., Asheboro, N.C. 27203.

Lela M. Byrd

RAMSEUR - Lela McCarn Byrd, 102, of 4970 Hinshaw Town Road, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Holly Spring Friends Meeting, where she was the oldest member, with the Rev. Ricky Sessoms and the Rev. Ron Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Mabel Brady of Siler City, Margaret Braxton of Ramseur; sister, Mary Armentrout of High Point; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home, 4970 Hinshaw Town Road, Ramseur.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Troy Wesleyan Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Roger Rhoades officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery, Troy.

He was a native of Anson County and retired from Capel Inc.

Surviving are son, Donald L. Morris of Troy; daughter, Lola Jean Harris of Troy; brother, Ashley Morris of Albemarle; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home, 917 Ophir Ave., Troy.

Willis L. Auman

STAR - Willis Lee Auman, 78, of 363 Vern St., died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bible Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Robert Scott officiating. Burial will be in Ether United Methodist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a former volunteer with the Biscoe Fire Department, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a life member of Biscoe V.F.W. Post 9881.

Surviving are wife, Effie Beane Auman of the home; sons, Keith Auman, Terry Lee Auman, both of Star, Mitchell Auman of Long Beach; sister, Ruby Owens of Candor; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Keith Auman, 202 Center St., Star.

Thelma C. Hussey

ROBBINS - Thelma Caviness Hussey, 71, of 1087 Smyrna Church Road, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Smyrna United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. J.R. Tatum officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County and a retired CNA from Country Forest Manor in Siler City.

Surviving are son, Milton Hussey of Robbins; daughters, Mary Anne Myrick of Star, Martha Martin of Ramseur; sister, Rheba McKenzie of Greensboro; brother, J.C. Caviness of Bennett; six grandchildren.

The family will be at Joyce-Brady Funeral Home, Bennett, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

She was a native of Bucks County, Va., a retired nurse aid from Randolph Hospital, a member of Parks Cross Roads Christian Church where she was a member of the Women's Missionary Society and a former member of Weaterly Chapter #271 Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are sons, Stad Crutchfield of Asheboro, Bill Eichelberger of Glenside, Pa.; daughter, Doris Abbott of North Port, Fla.; stepdaughter, Flora Van Orden of Booton, N.J.; brother, Warren Bilger of Surfside Beach, S.C.; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Stad Crutchfield, 1203 Brookdale Drive, Asheboro.

Royce Moffitt Sr.

Allen Royce Moffitt Sr., 63, of 2955 N.C. 42 South, Asheboro, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Bethel Friends Meeting, where he was a member, with the Rev. Terry Kersey and the Rev. Howard Moffitt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Seagrove, retired employee of Coca-Cola Bottling Company after 35 years and a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Sylvia Cox Moffitt; sons, Steve Moffitt, Allen R. Moffitt Jr., both of Asheboro; daughter, Beth Casey of Asheboro; mother, Addie Yow Moffitt of Asheboro; brothers, Jack Moffitt of Seagrove, Max Moffitt, Rex Moffitt, both of Asheboro; sisters, Rose Auman, Elda King, Janice Tolbert, all of Seagrove, Dot Craven of Franklinville; three grandsons.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Cora D. Moody

SILER CITY - Cora Dunn Moody, 98, of Calicutt Road, Bear Creek, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998, at Convalescent Care Center of Sanford.

Funeral service will be 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Sandy Branch Baptist Church, with the Rev. J.R. Bouldin and the Rev. Allen Overton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was the widow of William Murk Moody.

Surviving are daughters, Margie Blalock, Lucille Moody, both of Bear Creek, Eva Bare of Siler City, Lois Stallings of Burlington; sons, Thomas Moody, Earle Moody, both of Bear Creek; 21 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Robert D. Beal

GOLDSTON - Robert D. "Doug" Beal, 35, of 1948 Beal Road, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Gyles Saunders and the Rev. L.C. Muse officiating. Burial will be in Gaines Grove Cemetery.

He was employed with Mountaire Farms.

Surviving are wife, Kathy Williams Beal; son, Tyler Beal of Ramseur; daughter, Erica Beal of Ramseur; father, Roy M. Beal of Goldston; mother, Brenda Gaines Beal of Goldston; sister, Amy B. Wicker of Goldston; grandmothers, Gertie Gaines, Marie Brewer, both of Goldston.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Edna P. Harrington

ABERDEEN - Edna Petty Harrington, 82, of 138 Oak St., died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, Southern Pines, with the Rev. William H. Rothwell officiating. Burial will be in Faith Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Aberdeen.

Surviving are foster son, Bobby Fletcher of Aberdeen; stepdaughter, Willa B. Monroe of Pinehurst; sisters, Novella Shamburger, Hazel Smith, both of Robbins; brother, Alex Caviness of Elizabethtown; one foster grandson; one stepgrandson.

The family will be at Fry-Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Estoria L. Lyon
Estoria Luck Lyon, 89, of 510 N. Church St., Asheboro, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Adrian Pugh officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County, attended Fayetteville Street Baptist Church and was the widow of Alonzo Lyon with whom she owned and operated the Uptown Curb Market.

Surviving are daughter, Gladys Lyon Michael of Asheboro; sisters, Myrtis Lassiter, Cora Hunt, both of Asheboro; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

Russell J. Craven

RAMSEUR - Russell Jackson Craven, 78, of 354 Bush St., died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Jordan Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Scott Owen and the Rev. Justus McKeel officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Knoll Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a licensed funeral director, had been employed with Brady Funeral Home, retired from Loflin Funeral Home where he had been a partner and president from 1972-1989, was a member of the N.C. Funeral Director's Association, layman of the year at his church and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, India Phillips Craven of the home; sons, Bill Craven, David Craven, both of Ramseur; sister, Dorothy C. Blackard of Julian; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home of Bill and Jackie Craven, 244 Woodmont Drive, Ramseur.

Master Sgt. Rodney Edwards

DENTON - Master Sgt. Rodney Edwards, 39, of 5110 MCDougald Road, Lillington, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at High Rock Baptist Church, Denton, with the Rev. Sam Harvey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with full military rites.

He was a native of Forsyth County and a career soldier of 14 years with the U.S. Army, where he had been a recruiting sergeant in Vermont for three years and for one year in Korea.

Surviving are wife, Sandra Smith Edwards of the home; son, Ryan Edwards of the home; daughter, Holly Edwards of the home; parents, Ralph and Cynthia Edwards of Lexington.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

CLAYTON, GA. - A.V. "Duck" Harvey, 78, of 2921 Tallulah River Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, Ga.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at McCullough Funeral Home, Griffin, Ga., with the Rev. Ed Sisson officiating. Burial will be in Westwood Gardens.

He was a native of Green County, Ga., a retired mechanic with Civil Service, a World War II U.S. Marine veteran and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are wife, Lee Barfield Harvey of Clayton, Ga.; sons, Steve Harvey of Clayton, Ga., David Harvey, Danny Harvey, both of Asheboro, Verlon Harvey of Locust Grove, Ga., Charlie Harvey of Williamson, Ga., Joseph Harvey of Forsyth, Ga.; daughters, Frances Dunkle of Griffin, Ga., Sherry Snow of Perry, Ga.; stepdaughters, Nancy Key of Griffin, Ga., Connie Cline of Stone Mountain, Ga.; stepson, Howard Barfield of Barnesville, Ga.; brothers, Tom Harvey of Hiawassee, Ga., Ruben Harvey of Marietta, Ga.; sisters, Pat Cantrell of Perry, Ga., Ruby Fowler of Steele, Ala.; 29 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Germington, a retired certified nursing assistant and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church of Candor.

Surviving are husband, Norman Franklin Campbell; daughters, Norma Jane Decker of Clayton, Laura Leigh Brewer of Robbins, Donna McQueen of Star; brother, Virgil "Speedy" Reid of Candor; sister, Annie Lee Harris of Eagle Springs; five grandchildren.
